https://ca.news.yahoo.com/conservatives-lead-first-time-federal-223147507.html Conservatives in the lead for first time in federal campaign, new poll shows It has taken a lot of stupid comments, lies, gaffes, the revealing of several of Carney's conflicts of interest, and Carney getting caught with his hands in the US gov't and China cookie jars during this trade war, plus a lot of near-perfect campaigning from Poilievre, in order for the polls to start tilting back towards the PC's in the upcoming election. No doubt the Nanos polls, controlled by ex-LPOC staffer Alexander Nanos, will continue to skew the overall polling results in favour of Nanos's leader of choice, but no intelligent human takes those into consideration. Theoretically this new conservative lead would still translate into another LPOC minority gov't (and another pre-election windfall of LPOC-directed taxpayer money for our MSM to help them in the next election), but I think the polls will swing even further after the debate. Poilievre has a ridiculous number of arrows in his quiver, and Carney has so many things to answer for, that no moderator will be able to deflect every topic away from his laundry list of lies and conflicts of interest. Poilievre will beat Carney like a rented mule on that stage. CBC will no doubt do their best to make the debate (and this election) another referendum on climate change they'll back Carneys false assertions that the PM and Finance Minister had almost nothing to do with Canada's success at avoiding the recession that the US experienced in 2008, because they love the $2,000,000,000.00 taxpayer dollars that the LPOC gave them to help them in these elections the NDP, Bloc and Greens will no doubt see Poilievre as the guy guy to beat, and gang up like the bunch of jackals they are but PP is the most skilled debater that Canada has had in the last 50 years.7 points

The Trump Tariffs, to be announced today after stock markets close will be the undeniable display of Trump’s sheer incompetence and dishonesty as well as the inability of any of the few sane adults in the room to point out that the Mad King has no clothes. By Trump’s own (totally made up) numbers, the tariffs will impose a $6 trillion sales tax on the American people, the largest tax increase in American history by far. The half-hearted and explanations Trump apologists have barely even attempted to offer range from forehead-slapping stupidity (“tariffs actually a tax cut”) to outright shameless (tariffs are paid by the export country, Canadian fentanyl, misrepresentation of various alleged trade grievances etc). Their attempts at explanation have been weak because they know they don’t have to explain themselves to their mindless unquestioning supporters and they couldn’t come up with anything remotely plausible if they tried. American prices will increase. American jobs will be lost. The Stock market will continue to tank. All because of the stunning stupidity of one man and the shameless sycophancy of his administration officials. Remember Trump said everything would get better on DAY ONE of his administration not that he was going to destroy the economy then build back better from the ruins. For the American Trump supporters out there, as you watch your country spiral into a completely self-inflicted economic crisis caused by ONE MAN ALONE, just remember: elections have consequences.5 points

The bottom line is that the CBC and MSM are government-funded organizations that ask softball questions because they dare not bite the hand that feeds them. Canada is ideologically captured by parties that believe heavily in intervening in the free market, including the market of ideas. The CBC journalists criticizing Rebel News basically said speech should be compelled. That’s a threat to free speech and freedom of the press. The questions you ask determine the range of possible answers. Many if not most Canadians would indeed like to know why the government ignored the burning down of around 200 churches on the basis of an unproven assumption of mass graves, a story that the CBC irresponsibly disseminated.5 points

Borrowing from the playbook of yet another successful dictator, Trump is attempting to purge history, art and science of ideas he doesn't like. We've seen it at NIH, we've seen it at the Kennedy center, and now it's coming for the Smithsonian. Politico (and everywhere else) Vice President JD Vance has a new job: erasing what the White House considers “improper ideology” from the Smithsonian, a task that allows him to cast aside the progressive ideas he has decried since long before he was elected to public office. The vice president, who sits on the museum network’s board, has been tasked with slashing funding for exhibits or programs that promote “ideologies inconsistent with Federal law and policy,” including those that recognize trans people, “degrade shared American values,” or “divide Americans based on race,” according to an executive order President Donald Trump signed behind closed doors on Thursday. I have no doubt that this aggressive, ham-handed attempt to use political office to dictate culture will be celebrated by so-called conservatives (who clearly aren't), but it should be recognized for the sinister, cynical scheme that it is.5 points

The Natural Basis of Global Climate Change Global climate change, often framed as a modern crisis driven by human activity, is fundamentally a natural process that has shaped Earth’s environment for billions of years. While contemporary discussions emphasize anthropogenic contributions like carbon dioxide emissions, a broader examination of geological and climatic history reveals that climate variability is an inherent feature of the planet’s systems. This paper argues that global climate change is primarily a natural phenomenon, supported by evidence of past climate shifts, natural drivers like solar activity and volcanic eruptions, and the Earth’s long-term climatic cycles. First, Earth’s climate has undergone dramatic changes long before human industrialization. The geological record shows periods like the Ice Ages, with the Last Glacial Maximum around 26,000 to 19,000 years ago, when vast ice sheets covered North America and Eurasia. Conversely, the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM), approximately 56 million years ago, saw global temperatures spike by 5-8°C due to natural greenhouse gas releases, likely from volcanic activity or methane clathrate destabilization. These events, driven by natural processes such as orbital variations (Milankovitch cycles), tectonic shifts, and oceanic circulation changes, demonstrate that significant climate change predates human influence and operates on scales far exceeding modern records. Second, natural drivers continue to play a critical role in climate variability. Solar irradiance, though relatively stable, fluctuates in cycles (e.g., the 11-year sunspot cycle), influencing Earth’s energy balance. Historical correlations, like the Maunder Minimum (1645-1715)—a period of low solar activity coinciding with the Little Ice Age—suggest solar forcing impacts climate. Volcanic eruptions also exert short-term but potent effects, injecting aerosols into the stratosphere that reflect sunlight and cool the planet, as seen with Mount Pinatubo in 1991. These factors operate independently of human activity, underscoring nature’s capacity to alter climate. Third, the Earth’s climate is governed by long-term cycles that dwarf human timescales. Milankovitch cycles, involving changes in orbital eccentricity, axial tilt, and precession, drive glacial and interglacial periods over tens of thousands of years. The current interglacial period, the Holocene, began roughly 11,700 years ago and follows a natural warming trend after the last Ice Age. While human emissions may amplify warming, the underlying shift from cooler to warmer conditions aligns with these pre-existing cycles, suggesting that the trajectory of change is not wholly artificial. Critics argue that current warming rates and CO2 levels are unprecedented, pointing to industrial emissions as the primary cause. However, this view often overlooks natural analogs. For instance, during the PETM, CO2 concentrations rose rapidly (albeit over thousands of years), driven by natural carbon cycle feedbacks. Today’s accelerated pace may reflect human influence, but the mechanisms—CO2 as a greenhouse gas, atmospheric dynamics—remain natural processes. Moreover, proxy data (e.g., ice cores, sediment records) indicate that abrupt climate shifts have occurred before, challenging the notion that speed alone proves artificial causation. In conclusion, global climate change is a natural phenomenon rooted in Earth’s dynamic systems. Historical climate shifts, ongoing natural drivers, and long-term cycles demonstrate that variability is intrinsic to the planet. While human activity may modulate these processes, it does not negate their fundamental natural origin. Recognizing this context reframes climate change as a continuation of Earth’s history, rather than an anomaly requiring solely human-centric explanations.5 points

even posters like ecos with the absolutely detestable Frank Greaves who swore he would use his powers to defeat poilievre now show the liberals and conservatives at basically a tie after weeks of insisting that there was double digit spreads between them I don't know why but a lot of posters this election put their thumbs on the scales I think. You look at their methodologies and you look at what they said and there were a few that were fairly honest but most were less so. As I predicted a few days ago now that we're getting close to the end they're all going to pretend that they're pulling is saying it's magically a tie. Last night, everybody changed their minds and that hugely leads vanished and wow it's actually a tie now who'da thunk it This will allow them to pretend that they were at least close no matter who wins. It's pretty obvious from some of the commentary that they believe that the conservatives are trending right now and have momentum. The poles are currently showing a liberal minority. I have a funny feeling we're going to see a conservative minority in reality but you never know. If that happens I expect that mark carney will drop out of politics and go do something else despite having promised that he was in it for the long haul win or lose. Hopefully at that point the conservatives will call a snap election and say seeing as they got A free ride in the last leadership race there's no point in waiting for them to finish this one4 points

He's not wrong, but it's a bit of a strawman, isn't it? Who's blaming Trump for the last 30 years of economic fecklessness in Canada? Even the original NAFTA was a failure in many regards, with the promise from the US for a certain percentage of research funding to be based in Canada only being honored for a few years before it was abandoned with no challenge from our governments.4 points

Happy Easter everyone. I sit here in reflection today. On this Easter weekend, one more kid is leaving our nest. They're all adults now. Soon "Wifey-Baby" and I will be alone in our family home. I watch them today and find I'm content. The kids are respectful, honorable, and we've given them a good head start. Yes..."Wifey-Baby" and I have raised our family well. They will be producers...not drains. And they will be successful. So I will thank the Gawd of the living. The Liberal gov't needs to destroy what that rig stands for. That's all this is about. It says a lot about someone. Do they not wonder why the Libs are going so hard and so ferociously after Barber and Lich after pushing soft on crime legislation for the last 10 years? They were found guilty of mischief. Mischief is a misdemeanor. Do you really want the gov't doing this for misdemeanors, but letting the person who hit & run and killed a 7 year old girl in Surrey a couple weeks ago was out on bail in less than a day? What the fuque is the matter with you people?4 points

I voted yesterday. It was an hour standing in line to cast my vote. I overheard a few people grunbling about the wait an I thought about the kids who lived in mud that had the consistency and temperature of ice cream and the smeat of things I won't mention. They spent 2 - 3 years in that hell from 1915 to 1918 with other kids trying to kill them. When my Grand Father returner to Canada, he spent a hear in hospital and convalescence. I was able to stand in line for an hour to cast my ballot because of their sacrifice. So, yes, thank you Betsy. Get out and vote. 👍4 points

Have you ever admitted that the jabs were nothing like we were told they'd be? Canadians snitched on each other and supported the gov't forcing young adults to take the jab, because they honestly thought that they'd stop or greatly slow the spread of covid, while knowing full-well that those young people didn't need it. Now we know that the jabs injured/killed people, and they were absolutely nothing like we were promised. Can you have a moment of humanity/humility eyeball, or do you still just have to pretend that the jabs's efficacy made all the fascism worthwhile?4 points

Trumps have discovered social engineering. Openness and acceptance of LGBTQ is regarded by them as social engineering, not a common value. Did liberals make a mistake on that one ? Objectively, how much does the government get to decide what is a 'common value' ? Or, furthermore, to interpret recognized value-words like 'Freedom' ? Freedom seems to mean you can buy a message and broadcast it whether or not it is true. Nobody would argue that. But it doesn't mean freedom of equal access to education or health. Postmodern Republicanism truly is a wonder to behold. It will lead back to a kind of 19th century pastoralism, I suspect. Maybe with a monarchy though.4 points

Kennedy is a certified kook. That's been known for a long time. I'm just now finding out that he's also an a-hole. His characterization of people on the spectrum is unbelievably tone deaf. And frankly, mean spirited. But back to the kookery... The guy who is overflowing with science misinformation thinks that after decades of autism research, he's going to crack the code by September? That's just nonsense. What's actually happening is that he's given himself to September to pretend like they've figured it out and craft an outcome that suits his preconceptions. That is the only point of such a timeline. If he really just wanted to prioritize autism research he would fund it and let science take its course.3 points

If the polls this time around are as accurate as the last election they are pretty much saying the Cons have failed again to present a suitable leader. That is key. A leader who the people like. It has nothing to do with how much money they are saying they will give you. I live in the west and I am sick and tired of hearing the whining because they didn't elect a Con. There's no "unmasking" you weirdo. He's just a regular judge trying to administer the law. This is the executive trying to eliminate any check on his power by attacking the co-equal judicial branch.
