Queenmandy85
Erin O'Toole has been removed by a vote of the caucus. Who should replace him. I suspect anyone who could beat Prime Minister Trudeau wouldn't touch the CPC leadership with a 3.5 metre pole. 1

Boges
It'll just be another punching bag that has the support of Social Conservatives. No realistic chance to win a Federal election if he/she sticks to a Social Conservative platform, but will be removed if he/she doesn't pay fealty to those who handed him/her the leadership. Time is a Flat Circle. Edited February 2, 2022 by Boges 1
DogOnPorch
He could have went out to address the people protesting...what a novel idea. Instead, Ezra Levant made better political hay than every Conservative with the possible exception of Pierre Poilievre who seems less chickenshit than most.
myata
With O'Toole out, it can only be restated that no matter who is at the helm, the system is very unlikely to change. It just works best for some of us (selected few) exactly as it is. Edited February 2, 2022 by myata

Queenmandy85
On reflection, I think Michelle Rempel Garner would be acceptable, but I doubt she will run. We really need to have a Red Tory leading the Party. We need pragmatism and intelligence over ideology. Queenmandy85
The people who elect the leader of the CPC are quite different from the broad range of Canadian voters who occupy the centre. Mr. Poilievre and Ms. Lewis are not electable. We need to avoid choosing a leader that will turn us into the third party. OTOH, we need a leader that can hold the party together. We could end up splitting off the reform rump again. I am so grateful to my dad who told me to get out of politics.

I keep hearing that Peter P. is unelectable (I don't know about Lewis) but it seems to be mostly due to personal attributes. Let's have a look at the list of Canadian politicians who didn't have the touchy-feelies since I have been looking at politics: Robert Stanfield John Turner Audrey McLaughlin Stephane Dion Michael Ignatief Stephen Harper just off the top of my head and just federally too... Actually ... now that I think of it only the last guy got elected ? But anyway - is that it ??? What if they put a sweater on him and bought him a damn dog ?

Solid, compelling, and won’t waffle on conservative principles. We need someone brave who laughs off the expected accusations of racism, misogyny, and extremism. Leslyn would make a great key cabinet member who could be PM later on. Right now Polievre is too strong to bypass. myata
The figurehead doesn't matter because the main problem is not with an individual Trudeau or O'Toole. The problem is the lack, absence, total and absolute vacuum of accountability, any effective checks on the executive power. And that means that whoever found themselves in Justine's shoes tomorrow will have same powers, can make same decisions or worse and even more serious transgressions. Especially now that they were shown how it's done and it seems perfectly fine as long as voters influenced by propaganda approve. If citizens together with politicians not ingrained into the entitlement system won't find ways to implement such checks in reality and practice now, Canadian democracy can cease to exist in a genuine sense in not so distant future. We have compromised, hardly independent and objective media, judicial looks the other way and direct citizen actions seems like the last resort. Or vestige. Queenmandy85
Ms. Lewis has been labled a social conservative and her stance on conversion therapy would cost her votes. Mr. Poilievre has a reputation of being a Rottweiler, whether it is deserved or not. As Evan Soloman just said on CTV, if there was someway of getting Rona Ambrose to run, she would wipe the floor with Prime Minister Trudeau. Michael, I can not explain how Mr. Harper got elected, but that is down to my bias against the Reform / Socialist Credit. I hope you are wrong, i hope this gives some my hopefuls the nudge they need, as the conservatives need someone to bring the party back into play. Like Ambrose, well respected, might even steal some of Justins women support, she's is smart, charismatic, and is right of center enough to hold blue Tories and not far enough right to scare the red Tories.. but very doubtful. Peter MacKay, maybe... Rempel is a bulldog and passionate about her job, not as noisy as Poilievre but just as tenacious, not afraid to get into a scape. i could live with Pierre, but i'm not sure if he has the support.

I was suprised by his success because his detractors painted him as being anti- LGBTQ, anti- abortion, and a climate change denier. Clearly that was inaccurate, except he was way too soft on the climate issue.
