I was suprised by his success because his detractors painted him as being anti- LGBTQ, anti- abortion, and a climate change denier. Clearly that was inaccurate, except he was way too soft on the climate issue.

The climate issue is sketchy as a real issue to spend tax dollars on.  Certainly if it’s a real thing, and it probably is, carbon taxes won’t do anything about it except squeeze Canadians further financially.  Happening now.  Simple green tax incentives and building code changes would do more without adding to our already high cost of living, but we need a CPC leader who can articulate that and who doesn’t care when the tree hugger meth addicts on pogey start their dumpster fires.  Basically we need a PM who cares about bread and butter issues like jobs and cost of living and keeps the surly ignorant kids out of the press scrums.  No identity politics either.

In 1972, Bob Standfield lost by 100 votes sprinkled across ridings across the country. That is why it os so important to get out the vote. He was "the best Prime Minister we never had."

I liked jack Layton.

I was sad when he passed.

Hoping it's Pierre. I like that he had the courage to go talk to the truckers. Didn't hide in his ivory tower like Trudeau.

Need a PM that's less talk more action. Don't care if they are left or right wing.

Candice Bergen would be another good choice.

She’s solid.  Key role for her for sure.  She supported the truckers too.  Not just a pretty face.  Far from it.

The thing is that people overestimate the influence of 'detractors'.  And something people from the West don't get: Ontario isn't enthused about the Liberals, I firmly believe that.

An interviewer asking Stephen Harper had the gall to ask "Would you love your child if they were gay ?" and he properly said something like the question was ridiculous and of course he would.

He was pragmatic, but - like Trudeau - not anyone to get excited over.  He was thanked for taking Canada through the recession with a majority government and then after 9 years it was time to move on.  I will say that perhaps people were excited about Trudeau for the first election (especially young people with no political knowledge) but that faded fast.

In the USA climate issues are like number 20!  LOL.  The earth is not disintegrating.  It will all be fine.  We didn't starve like they told us in the late 70s.  Even IF we are the MAIN culprit behind warming, it has not been shown a mere 2% is on net a negative.

The Americans aren’t paying carbon taxes.  Those are for gullible Canadian suckers.

Thank God we rejected the whole idea of trading carbon credits. What a scam that was, and a scam because Al Gore's businesses were about trading carbon like a commodity.  The true believers are outnumbered by the snake oil salesmen like Gore, like Suzuki, and positive liars like Michael Mann,

I'm not sure what the deal was with him.

All of a sudden he just started making a lot of sense one day, he was a real threat to steal conservative votes, next thing he was dead.

I never liked Layton or any other NDP up until the last year of Layton' life. It's like he had some kind of epiphany when he found out that he was sick.

People are saying Pierre for interim, but if he's interim he can't run for permanent, am I correct?

If anyone answered this question, I didn't see it. I was wondering the same thing.

That was the case with Ambrose, but I don't know if that's always the case. When it happened I think that it was a one-off but I don't know for sure.

Putting Trudeau in the same sentence with Harper is like comparing tadpoles to a snapping turtle.  Castro's little bastard stumbled out of clown car.  I was never really that fond of Harper - he threw the pro-life members under the bus.  In hindsight though he was better than I thought of him at the time.  He got a bad rap for listening to his security and barricading himself when that terrorist came to parliament.  Did his detractors think he would do a GI Joe and take down the attacker?  What do they think happens to POTUS if even a single airplane breaks through White House air space.

The new rules state the interim leader cannot run for the leadership.

That brings to mind Michael Chong. I would support him but I doubt he would win.

The majority of Canadians are true believers of climate change, and without a plan to tackle that issue it will be a negative hanging around the conservatives neck... It's not like someone did not have time to craft something, i mean something that would interest Canadians. that is one topic that is not going away, not yet any ways...

We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.

If you took that few thousand a year you’re paying in carbon taxes and burned it, the impact on climate change would be the same.  Average people can’t afford electric vehicles and don’t have any choice but to commute great distances that don’t have rail or bus options.  Harper tried to keep this nonsense at bay.  We pay twice what Americans pay for fuel.  Awesome.

Them who created this system knew their country and folk very well. Kudos to them. Can't be beaten. Stick a new face and show will go on. Which new face is a better one to stick on? Would it change anything? But show must go on. That's what the folk likes and understand. What accountability, why? What is it, "responsible government"? MP salary to median at 5.6 and ticking, up, up. Till a hard stop. But how else?

If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant

Probably right.  Most to this day don't care Rachel Carson's literature lead to a ban of DDT, that lead to millions of deaths in Africa from malaria.

I am afraid Mr. Poilievre is not Stephen Harper. I don't know him well, but I get the sense he too is tainted by the socialist credit rump.

I think he acts cringy especially in his self promoting ads (Poilievre), but he no where gets near Trudeau's level of cringe.

Will a move further to the right on the political spectrum, denying climate change, or wanting to allow freer access to guns, win the Conservatives more votes in the areas that they need to win an election?

Do you think “less cringy than Trudeau” is a reason to vote for someone?

Yes.

You’re all about the party leader, not policy?  I thought voting for personality vs substance was something Conservatives criticized?  I guess there are exceptions, eh?
