I first started noticing the politicization of the CBC in the mid 2000's. At some point leading up to the Harper days, I remember it getting scolded by the Ombudsman for left-leaning bias. I can't find articles for it that far back, but it's been a slow-burn. It's not just leadership either. Over time, the leadership influences hiring and that culture ends up taking root top-down and bottom-up. You end up with a lack of diversity of viewpoints. In today's age, despite its bias, I'd still consider the CBC "moderate" compared to corporate shills like the Toronto Star or the National Post, but I'm not paying taxes to support the other two. I can just ignore them. When you see the former CEO battling it out in public with Pierre Poilievre, you get a clear perspective of its priorities. It's tough to maintain objectivity when you're being attacked, but as a publicly-funded broadcaster, your job is to show Canadians your value, not attack political opponents. Almost nobody does anymore.3 points

Russia created, armed, trained funded and ultimately controlled those troops, many of whom were Wagner mercenaries or Russian regular army soldiers on secondment.. Why else would Russia have signed multiple ceasefire agreements with Ukraine over the years prior to 2022. As usual the only clueless dumbass is you Those numbers are soldiers from both sides , stupid. The only “slaughtering” ie mass killing of civilians has been done by Russian troops. 1.so? 2.Putin has shown the same also. What a joke you don’t give a shit about anything except worshipping Teump and now Putin Just like you and Trump want Russia needs China, North Korea and Iran NOW Trump is an accomplice to their coalition. LMAO!!! SAYS THE FUY WHO BELIEVES PUTIN PROPAGANDA Youve cited zero facts just a brutal dictators lies. And I know tou MAGA dumbasses like to throw around random words without thinking about wht they mean but any understanding od the word “cult” can’t apply to people who believe the widely held mainstream majority opinion. YOU are the one with the fringe views. YOU are the one who worships one man above all and allows him to define your reality. YOU are the one supporting a dictator and believing his propaganda over all facts. What’s illegitimate is the propaganda Putin and his little biotch Trump tell to justify Putin’s Hitler-style illegal invasion and annexation of another sovereign country. Oh and you were probably born illegitimate too, weren’t you?3 points

This is what Bill Clinton had to say about Vlad Isn't that weird? It sounds just like Trump! Like...word for word. And the left hated it.3 points

If it's smart, it will just be targeted to hurt specifically Republican areas, on goods that are easily replaceable. Nobody needs Bourbon or JD, for example. I think we're probably limited in what damage we can do with our own tariffs. The greater impact on Americans will be consumer prices as all of their inputs from Canada become substantially more expensive. Meanwhile, much of what Canada actually trades is raw materials, which trade openly on the global markets and only need proper export channels. If nothing else, hopefully this encourages Canada to diversify its export markets and trading relationships.2 points

That is perhaps one of the stupidest statements ever said. And given your past post history that's quite an accomplishment Conservatives are the only moral people. They focus on results and giving opportunity. The left such as you focuses on virtue signaling and fake solutions that only appease your echo chamber. On top of that what we were talking about is the job of the CBC. And it is quite telling that you somehow believe that the CBC is a political entity and not a public broadcaster. When I say the CBC should be politically neutral you immediately think no, it should be political and that's why the CPC is wrong The CBC is not supposed to be a political organization. The CBC is supposed to be neutral and serve all Canadians regardless of their political stripe. it was never intended to be an activist agency And your failure to understand that is why it needs to be destroyed2 points

What joke, no one was strong armed to join NATO. Eastern European countries that spent 45 years under the Soviet boot needed no encouragement at all. Russia has been the aggressor. Russia is the only country that has attacked a neighbour. Your lifetime supply of Russian Kool Aid must have a lot of vodka in it.2 points

It's pretty obvious this country is going to have to reinvent itself to remain sovereign. I could be tough slog but reducing economic dependence on the US can't be a bad thing. Tariffs may take some manufacturing south but reciprocal tariffs will encourage US companies to have manufacturing capability in Canada to serve our markets, as they did before NAFTA. A market of over 40 million is not insignificant.2 points

"Need to see"? We live next door and have been watching it for decades. Since the border changed from 'welcome northern brothers' to 'you're just another f*cking foreigner' days. WN, OR, CA, the redwoods and Death Valley will remain memories and photos in an old album, I'd sooner visit Quebec and Newfoundland than ever go to Florida, Vegas, or Hawaii2 points

Not sure why you are saying this? Obsession??? Only posting news articles. I did not make them up. Ia m not the one hero worshipping criminals. My point, all along, has been , you break the law, get arrested, get charged, go to trial and are convicted, then you are done. That is what they did. How can anyone be envious of having a criminal record??? There is no honour or principal in achieving a convicted criminal status and having that on your record...which will be with you for life.1 point

Tariffs are a great idea if you can produce the goods domestically with little to no adjustment. Its a way for the US in this case to stimulate production of these goods instead of getting them from Canada or wherever. Crude oil, auto parts, machinery, lumber, and construction hardware are the biggest exports from Canada to the US. Some of these are difficult to produce and so ramping up US production of them is not going to be seamless. In the meantime, Canada can easily sell these essential goods elsewhere.1 point

If i was in Canada, I would boycott as much US goods as I could reasonably do. I do not find that these tariffs are justified.1 point

He's not backing Putin. He is trying to end the war. Putin invading Ukraine doesn't make me happy in any way. You should also consider the Russian perspective, as in the continuing expansion of NATO in Europe. U.S. Secretary of State James Baker’s famous “not one inch eastward” assurance about NATO expansion in his meeting with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev on February 9, 1990, was part of a cascade of assurances about Soviet security given by Western leaders to Gorbachev and other Soviet officials throughout the process of German unification in 1990 and on into 1991, according to declassified U.S., Soviet, German, British and French documents posted today by the National Security Archive at George Washington University They said they would not expand to the east if the Russians agreed to German reunification. Russia did agree but the West did not honour it's side of the deal. I am no fan of Russia or Putin but every side has it's own different perspective.1 point

I want to stop the proliferation of dictators in the world. They shouldn't be and there's no reason to think anyone would. The EU and NATO are not a protection racket like America. Russia is a threat to stability in the world. They're vandals, arsonists and murderers. More dangerous than terrorists given the respectability they've been afforded, especially by powerful Western money launderers. Sure if this is your idea of peace, harmony and goodwill. WTF is the matter with you?1 point

Larry Johnson thinks it's unlikely that Zelensky will apologize, I think he may well be right. As I've said before, Trump has his flaws, but one flaw he does -not- have is this crazy wishful thinking of many warmongers on both the left and the right. I suspect that the most important statement Trump made in his tiff with Zelensky was this one: "Trump: [shouting] “You're gambling with the lives of millions of people. You're gambling with World War Three. You're gambling with World War Three" Source: https://www.msn.com/en-us/politics/government/trump-zelensky-transcript-in-full-every-word-of-astonishing-white-house-exchange-over-ukraine-russia-war/ar-AA1A0EtW I firmly believe that Trump is right on this. Zelensky was considering getting nukes even -before- Russia's military operation in Ukraine began, and Putin was certainly listening- he even responded, and all of this was before his operation. Zelensky hasn't changed course and his wish to get western powers to escalate things to this level has been something he's done repeateadly, even getting the U.S. and other western powers to literally help him bomb Russia. What if Putin was a bit less restrained and decided to bomb the countries that were helping bomb Russia back? Scott Ritter suggested this could have indeed led to World War III in an article he wrote back in September 2024: https://consortiumnews.com/2024/09/19/scott-ritter-72-hours/ Fortunately, Putin decided to avoid doing this, and perhaps for this reason alone, World War III didn't ensue. Trump, to his credit, wants to avoid these types of possibilities entirely. I've heard that he also wants to essentially have an Israeli style Iron Dome for the U.S., with satellites able to take out nukes from orbit and the like. I think diplomacy's a -much- better option, but it goes to show that Trump takes the potential of World War III quite seriously, which is something that Biden, who I think most would agree wasn't really all there by the end of his term, didn't seem to a lot of the time (there were thankfully some exceptions).1 point

Yep. Zelensky attacked Trump in public. I don't know why he thought that would be beneficial. He clearly realized, later, that what he did was a huge mistake. But he still didn't apologize. When he apologizes, he will get it all back. One of Tro's best qualities is his ability to forgive.1 point

It's a really good question. To date the EU has donated more than the US, it's true, but still they only represent about 60% or so of the money given to you crane and even that wasn't enough to win the war. In fact it's barely enough arguably to not lose the war. A 40% reduction in financing will not be easy to make up and they will have to be extremely strategic about how they do it What they really need more than anything is the one thing they havent' had so far and that's a reasonable exit strategy to end the war. It is true that the war has strained russia terribly and if they can keep bleeding the russians they may improve their bargaining position, but at the end of the day they're still going to have to have something that works for all parties. And that will have to include some sort of vision for a post war circumstance that protects Ukraine without threatening Russia. I guess if they're willing to increase spending AND willing to ramp up production to something close to a wartime footing AND if they come up with some sort of endgame which would allow them to focus their money and efforts today to achieve then they might be able to make something happen. But while i'm confidient something like that COULD happen i'm extremely doubtful they'll get together and pull it off.1 point

Not from your POV, no. You don't see NATO as a threat because you live inside the NATO propaganda bubble like the rest of us. You get your news filtered through western media and social media fact-checkers like the rest of us do. But from Russia's POV, NATO are militarily and economically aggressive liars and bullies. Why isn't Nato expanding into Mexico? If Canada can be in NATO, why not Mexico? Australia? Brazil? Cote D'Ivoire? Japan? South Korea? Would China let NATO into Japan? Taiwan? So why does NATO aggressively court little Georgia, so far east that it's partly in Asia? Why do they want them? Does the addition of Georgia to NATO really make NATO stronger, or do we court them for another reason? And what might that be? NATO's job right now is to bully and economically strangle Russia. Say what you want, but that's what we're up to. The US tried to pull Ukraine into the fold, and Russia said enough is enough. Good for them. F Ukraine. F Zelenski. If you can't be a good neighbour, take your lumps and don't cry to me.1 point

The completely erratic way Trump is handling the tariff file just shows how absolutely unfit for office he is. The reason for tariffs keeps changing The deadline for the tariffs keeps changing with hardly any explanation Lies, more lies and not a shred of evidence or fact to support anything they’ve claimed Oh and surprise the 10% tariff recently implemented against China last month is going up by another 10% effective immediately. Just because. Now even the amount of the tariffs against Canada and Mexico are up in the air, 48 hours from the most recently announced deadline The latest message from the White House is that the orange emperor will decree a tariff amount that day based on his mood and his fancies and there may be different amounts for different products if that’s what happens to please him in the moment It’s clear they have absolutely no clue what they’re doing or dealing with and policy affecting billions of dollars is based on nothing except Trump’s unpredictable whims and zero knowledge or serious consideration. Its not even imperial rule-by-decree, its rule-by-erratic whim. This is toxic for anyone trying to do business in the US. Imagine you are a US business that has imports or exports somewhere in your supply or distribution chains, you can’t make investments or manage risks when nobody has any fukin clue what might happen or when. Uncertainty and instability are worse for business than any tax-and-spend big government liberal regime has ever been. Trump has already alienated every country except Russia and North Korea. He even managed to make enemies of the Canadian conservative party and the Canadian business community, both of whom are naturally deferential to and reverential of the US by default, with conservatives especially loyal to republicans. It takes a special kind of incompetence for Trump to have screwed that up for no real reason. And it’s barely been a month. The real shitshow hasn’t even started yet1 point
