  4. Yeah, the billionaire who inherited $400 is all in it for the little guy, which is why he told billionaires to give him money, because he would cut their taxes. But the woman who grew up in Oakland and the school teacher/football coach/Guardsman are only in it to benefit millionaires.

  6. OK lefties, here's how Kamala's price-fixing backfires: When you tell people: "You have to sell your 'whatevers' for $4.00 each", and suppliers can't make them for less than $5.00, they say: "I'm not gonna do all this work just to pay people $1 to buy my whatevers", and they stop making them. Invariably, as the supply of "whatevers" diminishes, the cost of them is driven up by the law of 'supply and demand' (1. look that up, 2. it's not racist) Kamala can tell people whatever she wants, even with the power of executive order, but she's just trying to reinvent the round peg for the square hole. At the end of the day, if there are only 2M pounds of bacon, and 50M people want a pound of bacon, the bacon will either: be sold to the highest bidders at way more than $5 each or there will be a bacon line and only the first 1.95M people will get bacon (Kamala's friends are guaranteed to get bacon), everyone else will be S-O-L. There's no such thing as 'bacon lines' though, Kamala will have bread lineups if she's left to her own devices. It will just be another case of Kamala and Walz having to learn from their costly mistakes.

  7. it's a very viable strategy as Bonaparte said : "never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake" Trump's first mistake being to debate Biden before Biden had the nomination taking Biden out early has backfired, since Trump was going to defeat Biden with ease the second mistake is going off message to call Harris names because that's not landing blows in terms of swing voters anybody who is a swing voter at this juncture, is not really buying that so long as Trump is not landing any blows, there's no need for Harris to react

  13. Healthcare is in the top 3 of concerns for Americans. For you Canadians, here's how it works in the US. Through my employer I pay about $1500 per month to an insurance corporation for a mediocre family health insurance plan. In the event that i need some kind of medical treatment, I must pay about $5000 out of my own pocket before the insurance pays anything. It doesnt cover dental or many eye expenses. Increase in these insurance costs has been steady and linear for many decades. To try to address this, in 2010 democrats passed the ACA, which required everyone to buy insurance, created a subsidized insurance marketplace for lower income people, and made many very popular restrictions on what insurance corporations can no longer do to their insurance customers. Meanwhile, since the 1960s through Medicare, older Americans (who are mostly republican, by the way) can just go to the doctor and the government pays for most of it. This is the model that most democrats would like to see expanded for everyone. In 2010 democratic party leaders went with an existing republican market-based plan in a doomed hope of getting some of them on board with the legislation. Since 2010, the ACA is widely appreciated for what it does do, but it has shortcomings. Republicans have long vowed to end the ACA. When they controlled the entire congress and the presidency from 2016-2018 they had an easy pathway for doing anything they want to do to change or improve healthcare, but did not do so. They attempted a straight repeal of the ACA, it failed, and that was it. Today, the republican platform has just this minimal and vague 3-sentence statement on the subject of healthcare: Is it now safe to say that Republicans have no major ambitions for trying to do anything with Healthcare?

  14. Oddly enough, the DNC was last in Chicago in 1968. LBJ, the incumbent, had announced that he was not running so the convention was to determine the democrat candidate. Somewhat similar to the present circumstances, which I find fascinating. Wikipedia describes some of the events as follows: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Democratic_National_Convention Here's some coverage of preparations being made for next week, including fencing and barricades. The powers that be for this event seem to be preparing for the worst, just in case. Fences and barricades are going up around the facility that is hosting the event. Key note speakers include Joe Biden himself, Michelle and Barry Obama as well as Bill and Hilary. At least 6 protests are planned, from various activist and extremist groups. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/08/18/dnc-protests-gaza-kamala-harris-00174497 This strikes me as a little bit odd. Kamala has been moving up in the polls and the tent that is the Democrat movement is much closer to the causes of these activists than any other option. Why protest before the election? Why not wait and see if they win and can actually do something for your extremist group and cause? What benefit can a protest of over 10,000 people produce? Anyway, I think the DNC could be very notable this year and worth following along this week. It will be interesting to see what the Media covers, and what they ignore.

  15. Leftists: can you explain how price controls (Kamala calls it ending price-gauging, but I think she means price-gouging) actually cause food prices to go up? I don't want to lecture you guys, you always like to pretend to know everything, so do you think price-fixing will work, and if not, why?

  17. If walls are racist and don't work, requiring IDs is racist and doesn't work and the police are racist and don't stop crime... Then why do DNC attendees have to walk past a wall, show multiple forms of ID and are protected by hundreds of police and national guard?

  18. Blackmailing the economy is an interesting negotiation tactic. The gov freaked out and enacted the Emergencies Act when truckers blocked a lane at a border crossing but they're not nearly as concerned when unions do this or indigenous protestors block the railway lines. Universal human rights means treating everyone the same. The left/progressives don't believe in this anymore.

  19. Oh man, that was really stupid. The question you should be asking is "Why did the NYT lie about this story when the truth would have hurt Biden's re-election chances?" The timing looks pretty bad, right? They didn't tell us anything that they didn't already know this week, and they knew all of this for several years... They knew it waaaay back before the 2020 election, when their neighbours at the NYPost were kicked off of Twitter for telling the truth about it. Think about that for a second... not only did the NYT lie about this whole Burisma scandal this whole time, they let journalism fall victim to a fascist level of political protectionism. They even let the FBI get away with covering this up. And make no mistake, black-listing honest journalism to hide the political corruption of one's favourite party is even worse than book-burning. When the NYT stood by and let that happen, they were no better than the people who sat on their hands and watched the Nazis take over Germany.

  22. When I said the same thing about trans people you lost your mind about how unfair it was to say such a thing Generally speaking people talk about what trump is up to. Generally speaking that's because he's up to something. But over the last 4 years it's mostly been because the democrats want to keep talking about him. They wanted january 6th to be an insurrection when it really wasn't and they wanted him to be responsible when he really wasn't. So they kept talking trying to insist that it was until people agreed, which they didn't, which meant it continued. When I didn't work and it became obvious he was going to run for re-election they tried to find every single possible thing to throw at him in court write down to jaywalking. And then we talked about his court cases and such everyday for months and months and months. Now he's the nominee in an election so of course they're going to talk about him. I honestly believe if the dems had just shut up after jan6 (prosecuted the actual offenders but that's it), and not launched several hundred dumb lawsuits which were clearly politically motivated, and the left media had just stopped reporting on him, that there's an excellent chance he wouldn't even be the nominee today and i guarantee he wouldn't be doing as well in the polls. The dems talked themselves into this mess.

  24. 1. Prolific lying about "rigged elections". Dozens of cases thrown out of court, had no effect on continuing lying even now. 2. Attempts to influence government officials to dereliction of duties. Participation in a conspiracy to overturn a free election before the courts. 3. Violation of campaign rules and repeated lying about it. Convicted by a jury of citizens. 4. Repeated lying about the causes of Putin's war and insinuations that a solution can be found at the expense of international law and rules-based order. Coddling and cowering to dictator thugs of the worst kind. 5. Repeated lying about pretty much anything. Vitriol, vicious attacks on political opponents that are causing concerns even within his own party. There's more and more and more. All the attributes of your regular neighbor guy (but obviously, all depends on the neighborhood). Having eyes and at least a small part of a working brain, there's nothing here one couldn't see or know. And without, no miracle cure can be found in this universe.

  26. Its more like this. Person xyz is Conservative living in Idaho. They support Republican candidate x and lets just say that they lose. They view it as a reflection on their way of being. A republican candidate losing supposedly is a sign that their Conservative ways are under attack. Also, it diminishes them. Their candidate lost and so no bragging or front running. its like when your college football team loses.. supposedly it says something about you that you support team xyz and them losing reflects poorly on you.

  28. OK... so, what do you think? We are both arm chair quarterbacks here with zero real information on what their operational plans are. So, what is more realistic here, that Ukraine is on some kind of Kamakazee mission here with no care or regard in the world for how it ends? Or, maybe they have plans and strategy... maybe that doesn't work out exactly as planned, because war is hell or maybe this does work as intended but with some costs... because war is hell. I trust that to them, this was worth it, as they are the ones doing it. What is your purpose and motivation here in criticizing it? You are playing at the angle that men are dying... well, is it just that you think Ukraine should have sent these men to die somewhere else on the war front instead? Because your criticisms are coming across as if *anything* Ukraine is doing is going to be a waste of men. Well, no, it isn't. The point of the question, is as I alluded to above, is that your criticism come across as if anything Ukraine does is a waste. Even now, I ask a fairly straightforward question about what you think... you come up with this and end up saying it is up to them. Well... so is pushing into Kursk too, but you have lots of opinions on that. I asked this because it seems you are angling at this entire war as hopeless. So, do you want them to surrender?

  29. That's what Biden does regarding the SC: he keeps floating different strategies out there for "reforming" - aka hijacking - the Supreme Court. First was "adding 4 new SCJs", and more recently he talked about "imposing term limits"... to get rid of the ones he doesn't like. You know that if RBG was still alive and Thomas was the one that died, Biden wouldn't be talking about term limits.

The Brit asked about Norm Macdonald - from Montreal. No, I corrected. He was from Quebec City. And btw, his brother was a good, ascerbic writer for the CBC. Then I noted that Canadians know Leslie Nielsen, but for us, we also know his brother as the deputy PM. Whatever.

  37. as a secondary question I'd like to know whether they feel that giving everybody a $25,000 down payment so they can buy a home will in any way shape or form affect home buying trends or drive up the price of housing as soon as the market realizes people can afford more? And if this will create a smaller version of the housing bubble the democrats created last time when they went with subprime mortgage lending so that people could afford homes that they otherwise couldn't? And wouldn't that lead to inflation as well, pumping billions of unearned dollars into the economy? So many questions.

  38. we didn't know about the Mefloquine at the time, it took twenty years to piece it all together so we just assumed that Matchee must have been some sort of madman, we couldn't explain it we couldn't understand why our buddy who came back on leave was so jacked up and out of control it's the first time anybody had deployed for something other than Peacekeeping so we just assumed that shit was so hairy in Somalia, that it had stressed him to the limit but looking back, knowing about Mefloquine, it explains everything not just about Matchee, but the whole breakdown of discipline to include the officers I mean, if they're calling the day the drug was taken "Psycho Tuesdays" then this is something that is happening to all them at once, to varying degrees and they are not even noticing that this is happening, because there is nobody who is not dosed to monitor the effects not only was this drug "trial" illegal under Health Canada rules, but it wasn't even supervised like a trial would be the troops were going to the medics and saying that there was something wrong like having intense nightmares about killing their families and all their buddies in the Section or like they were suddenly finding themselves standing in the camp in their underwear with their rifle in hand, on their way to kill somebody with it, like in a trance, sleep walking the medics just said "drink more water, sleep it off" but according to Matchee's wfe, when he was on leave in Petawawa she woke up in the night with him trying to strangle her to death then he suddenly snapped out of it and said "holy shit, I'm in Canada" then he was freaking out, because he couldn't understand what was happening so when you look back on the photos of him killing Arone, you can see it in his eyes he's having a psychotic episode right there like if it ever went to trial, Matchee would have a very strong defence bearing in mind that he was ordered to torture the prisoner by the chain of command this is not something he cooked up himself, this was a procedure which had been directed military law of course says its an unlawful order which you must decline to obey but if everybody is experiencing drug related psychosis to some degree are any of them in a state of mind to do so ? are the officers who are issuing these unlawful orders experiencing the effects as well ? hyper paranoia and hyper aggression not just Matchee, they are all exhibiting this behaviour to some degree, up and down the ranks like my buddy who came back on leave, we took him out to the bars in Toronto first thing, we get into a cab, and it's a Somali cab driver boom, he goes off on the cabbie, trying to pick a fight, so the cabbie kicks us out of the cab and then my buddy just snaps, hair trigger he's at the driver door, trying to pull the cabbie into the street to pummel him we had to grab him and pull him away, three of us having to pull him off we were just like "whoa, wtf is the matter with you ?!!" but he couldn't explain it, he was acting like we were the ones who were being unreasonable he's just rattling on about Somalis, "you can't trust them, they're dangerous" etc hyper aggressive and hyper paranoid and he was a black belt in Goju Ryu Karate so if he had pulled that cabbie into the street for a fight, he easily could have beaten him to death there is another Paratrooper who has officially been diagnosed with brain damage from the tour for years they thought he had PTSD but no, in 2017 he was diagnosed as having a brain injury caused by the Mefloquine that Paratrooper now says that if he had been in the position that Matchee was he too could have easily beaten Arone to death considering his state of mind at the time other witnesses in the bunker that night said that it seemed like Matchee was hallucinating and in the morning, when they told Matchee that the prisoner was dead Matchee was reportedly shocked, like he was not aware of what he had done next thing you know, he tries to hang himself, also probably due to the Mefloquine nothing Matchee did made any logical sense from a criminal point of view if you intend to murder someone in the middle of a military camp, are you going to film yourself doing it to provide evidence for your own conviction ? if you are going to murder someone, what is your plan to get away with it ? if you are a murderous psychopath, you're not going to hang yourself the morning after murderous psychopaths don't feel guilty, and they don't want to get caught like if it ever had gone to a criminal trial in a civilian court Matchee would almost certainty be deemed NCR ; suffering from psychosis the persons who would be criminally responsible is whoever it was at DND who administered this completely illegal unsupervised drug experiment but in Canada, senior public officials are never held responsible and the state run media has long been the lapdog propaganda arm of the senior public officials as the Truckers found out when they got to Ottawa I knew the Freedom Convoy was utterly naive, I knew it was going to end the way it did but that understanding started with the Somalia Affair; this is how Canada is actually run this younger generation just never got the memo apparently because the whole Somalia Affair and what really happened, was memory holed years ago

There's a reason why falsely crying fire in a crowded theater doesn't qualify and why Kenneth Law is charged with counselling and aiding suicide. Both should be as applicable when protecting people from medical misinformation that can lead to their deaths.
