  1. Maybe turn off FOX news? It's got you out of touch with reality. "72 per cent of Canadians surveyed said they are worried or very worried about climate change and 21 per cent said they were not very worried. Only seven per cent said they weren't worried about it at all."

  4. The 14th Amendment was clearly written to address Civil War confederates. Those people were NOT convicted of insurrection, but they WERE NOT eligible for Federal office if they’d previously sworn an oath to defend the U.S. Constitution. No Conviction Needed.

  6. That’s how the U.S. Constitution works. In 2000, Al Gore got 500,000 more votes than George Bush, but the Constitution said those 500,000 votes didn’t matter, and Bush became President. In 2003, Arnold Schwarzenegger was the most popular Republican in America But no matter how many votes he got, the Constitution said he could not be President of the United States In 2016, Clinton got 4 million more votes than Donald Trump, but the U.S. Constitution said those 4 million votes don’t matter, and Trump became President. On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump incited an insurrection, making him Constitutionally ineligible for the Presidency, no matter how many votes he gets.

  10. "It depends on the context"? NY Times: "The phrase has also been adopted over the years by Hamas, which calls for the annihilation of Israel, taking on a darker meaning that has long shaped the way in which it is received." Associated Press: "what the phrase means depends on who is telling the story... Many Palestinian activists say it’s a call for peace and equality... By 2012, it was clear that Hamas had claimed the slogan in its drive to claim land spanning Israel, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank... “Palestine is ours from the river to the sea and from the south to the north,” Khaled Mashaal, the group’s former leader, said that year in a speech in Gaza celebrating the 25th anniversary of the founding of Hamas. “There will be no concession on any inch of the land." The phrase also has roots in the Hamas charter." Washington Post: "The slogan refers to the territory between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea — which includes the state of Israel... the phrase was taken up by supporters of the Palestine Liberation Organization, or PLO... “The vast majority of Jews in many contexts, hearing that slogan, hear something that feels deeply threatening and offensive and many, many Jews would characterize it as antisemitic,” said Ethan Katz, an associate professor of history and Jewish studies at the University of California at Berkeley." Anti-Defamation League: "It is an antisemitic charge denying the Jewish right to self-determination, including through the removal of Jews from their ancestral homeland. Usage of this phrase has the effect of making members of the Jewish and pro-Israel community feel unsafe and ostracized. It is important to note that demanding justice for Palestinians, or calling for a Palestinian state, should not mean, as this hateful phrase posits, denying the right of the State of Israel to exist." I agree with you 100%. Such a lasting peace may take 10 or 20 years, but it starts with leaders who at least say they are committed to peaceful coexistence.

  11. Let’s try this? If you’re wrong: Hundreds of millions of people die. If I’m wrong: We’ve spent money building a lower-cost, more efficient energy infrastructure, which makes our nations’ industries more efficient, makes our economies stronger, and takes hundreds of billions of dollars from unstable, terrorist-funding, anti-American oil dictators in the Mideast. See? If I’m wrong, I’m still right.

  15. Yes they do convert that carbon but how are they supposed to convert the carbon we add to the atmosphere by burning carbon stored in the earths crust for millions of years on top of that produced by existing rotting vegetation and natural sources. Instead of expecting a tree to absorb the carbon from existing life and death, you want it to also handle the carbon from thousands of trees that died millions of years ago. Deforestation just exacerbates the problem. F***k Justin, he is only a politician and he is far from being my hero. That's the problem with you guys, you can't get past your politics. It taints every thought you have.

  16. My definition of progressive: Entitled lazy babies who want everything now and want those with more money to pay for their BS. A group that doesn't know the difference between boys and girls and wants to force everyone to buy in into their trans ideology through laws and cancelling people. That are always for those they deem as oppressed no matter their circumstances or belief systems. Examples gay people being pro-Palestinians even though they would kill anyone in that group on sight and are against the Israelis who have legalized gay marriage. Being pro-trans while throwing another "oppressed group", women under the bus and forcing them to accept males pretending to be women in their private spaces and to compete directly against them even though they still have all the parts that makes someone male. A group that insists the US taxpayer pay for their student loans that they were aware of the terms and took the loan anyway because they learned quick that a gender studies degree wasn't going to get you a 6 figure job or any decent job. A group that will violently riot at the drop of a hat simply because someone they don't like are speaking at a university or a black criminal is shot resisting arrest with little to no repercussions. Yet when the other side has a riot they deem it an unforgivable insurrection and are hunted down like dogs and kept in jail without trial for years. Progressives are heads of Universities that bans speech that doesn't conform to liberal ideology but needs context before banning speech calling for genocide.

  17. Harvard President Claudine Gay resigned after more examples of plagiarism were reported. But plagiarism had nothing to do with it; the examples had to do with how she explained statistical methods she used. It’s pretty difficult to explain how a Chi square or other method works without partially copying someone’s words, and it has nothing to do with scholarship. The real reason she was pressured to resign, of course, was her very legalistic response to a question about whether calling for genocide is acceptable free speech. Here’s my take: Gay: “It depends on the context.” I agree with that. Because, who is to judge whether a statement is or isn’t a call for genocide? But Gay had many opportunities to clarify her comment, and she didn’t. That, I think, is what did her in. On the other hand, pro-Palestinian protests at universities today often chant two slogans repeatedly: “There is only one solution, intifada revolution,” and ”From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” This is the heart of the problem. You can’t run around pretending to care about innocent Palestinian civilians being killed, by declaring that terrorist warfare against Israeli civilians is the “only solution,” and that the seven million Jews of Israel must be forcibly removed from their country. Israel is a nuclear power with a population of seven million Jews and two million Arabs (that doesn’t include West Bank and Gaza). Calling for the overthrow of a nation and murder and expulsion of their entire population doesn’t make you a peace activist, it makes you a war activist. And given Israel’s nuclear capabilities and powerful conventional military, it’s also irrational. Claudine Gay didn’t seem to understand the issues, and it cost her job. I think more university officials are going to need to address the clearly anti-Semitic nature of some of these chants, and come up with solutions which classify such comments as hate speech, and punish them. Not a simple issue in a free speech nation, but hate speech is not constitutionally protected. “Hate speech can only be criminalized when it directly incites imminent criminal activity or consists of specific threats of violence targeted against a person or group.” (Snyder v Phelps)

  19. Sure, Mr. Chamberlain. Just let him have Czechoslovakia. That'll be the end of it... And just to recap, your theory of geopolitics is that the member countries of NATO, which fund NATO, are courting conflict to justify keeping NATO alive, because they are greedy and want to keep getting the money they contributed? 🤪 And to top it off, the total budget for NATO is a paltry $3 billion per year. Which doesn't even register as a drop in the bucket.🤣

  21. I get it, but... the question is what a reasonable person might interpret it to mean. As a neutral person, I would assume it means Israel is removed from the map. Therefore, this is not a chant looking for peace, or unification... not even solidarity in the face of genocide - it sounds like a war cry. I get that it "could" be interpreted differently, but if the meaning is ambiguous they should not chant it. I'm pretty sick of a society where people actively use ambiguity to generate controversy, to generate attention, to generate support. It's a cynical manipulation of mass reaction AND public discussion to achieve miniscule gains. Both sides have to start taking 2-state seriously, and that's the way to peace. That also means Benjamin Netanyahu must go at some point.

There is no reason any thinking person with dignity would NOT be embarrassed believing and referencing a petition like that. And you are wildly deluded if you think climate activism and pressure will be going away. It will continue to build pressure as it has for the last 40+ years, both because the evidence is utterly overwhelming and because people are seeing the effects. Year after year is the hottest on record and the storms are larger and more frequent. The droughts longer and drier. Species falling into endangerment and extinction. Animals showing up well outside their traditional habitat. Etc. Etc. And the generations that follow you are much more scientifically literate and are growing up in this reality and understanding that it will affect them directly. You can throw your hissy fits, but it's 100% not going away. That's silly.

  27. You know all the ISIS-inspired terrorist attacks across the western world weren’t coordinated either, it was just self-radicalized individuals and cells inspired by garbage posted on social media. Similarly, many of the people who stormed the Capitol on Jan 6 legitimately believed internet nonsense asserting that if congress is unable to certify the election on the date of Jan 6 as specified in the constitution FOR ANY REASON then the election is nullified and the president will then need to be elected by the Republican-controlled congress. Some of those ideas were circulating on this very forum by the usual conservative crackpots in the weeks and months after Trump’s election loss leading up to January 6. So yes the Jan 6 attack was an attempt by at least some to nullify the 2020 election and install an alternative president. Similarly, Trump’s fake elector scheme and forged electoral certificates was also an attempt to sow confusion and prevent certification on Jan 6.

  28. A. Try to keep up with the conversation. If you disagree with OftenWrong's characterization of MAGA positions with regard to Russia and China, you can let him know. B. Russia should be--and always will be--fundamentally an enemy as long as they are autocratic, aggressive, acquisitional and generally opposed to every value of Western democracy. They should be an enemy because they actively interfere in our elections both to create chaos and division and then to get the embodiment of chaos elected. Trump may kiss Putin's ass. You may kiss Putin's ass. You may want to let him conquer any sovereign nation he fancies. But most Americans have values and self respect. C. The "R" in BRICS stands for... (drumroll) Russia. So the idea that "Biden drove Russia into the arms of China and BRICS" (into its own arms?) is goddamn ridiculous. D. As a dedicated sub, you obviously don't appreciate it when people of values stand up to a bully, as Zelensky and Biden are doing. You can roll over and present if you like, but for most Americans, no thanks.

Fisherman's coffee was just cowboy coffee that sloshed back and forth on the stove all day. It was also good for polishing brass. Sidestripe shrimp rarely ever made it off the boat before being eaten, the sweetest shrimp you ever tasted...bigger than pink shrimp...a vegetarian with really tender meat Dey's uh shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.

  34. I agree with some of this, Biden cannot just Close the Border, that would cause a lot of Republican owned companies who use South of the Border labor a great deal of money, and put a whole lot of newly added Texas Rangers out of work along with a large contingent of other businesses who cater to migrant labor. Even Texas knows this despite errecting mid-Rio Grande barriers and shipping off bus loads of not wanted migrants to other states and unloading them in the dead of night in the middle of nowhere. Can't say I would be voting Republican when I became a citizen, if I we're treated like that. Yet Trumps immigration policies are doing just that, creating new under classes who absolutely hate the Republican Party in any form.

  37. You are spot on, mate. We do have a globalist agenda going on all over the world where one of their main objectives is to get the Joe and Mary six packs into believing that bugs are great to eat. This is why meat is now so expensive to buy. They want we the peasants to start eating bugs. The globalist will always be eating steak, no matter what. Apparently, some grocery stores are now placing on their shelves and in refrigeration areas some products with bugs inside those products. Better read that label on that product before you buy it. The cashless society is another one of the globalist ilk programs and agendas to get rid of cash, and go to a cashless society, where they will be able to, with the help of our Marxist government in Ottawa, to be able to keep tabs of what and where one spends their own money. And if they do not like as to what you are spending or doing with your own money, they will freeze your bank or credit card account. We saw the globalists ilk do just that, with the help of the dictator in Ottawa, too many patriotic Canadians who attended the truckers convoy demonstration in Ottawa not so long ago. Peeve off the globalist elite ilk and they will freeze your bank account right away. Then, what are you going to do, eh? Maybe starve to death or get kicked out of your home because one cannot pay their rent. One more item to note is that those preacher globalists who try to get us to cut back on our carbon emissions are not really doing what they want us to do. They still and always will fly in their own private jets, run big expensive yachts and drive fossil fuel gas guzzlers and of course, still own two or three homes somewhere around the world. We are living in dangerous times where we the peasants need to be more vigilant as to what is going on in the world around us. Pay more attention the what those globalists are doing. And do not expect any help from the MSM. They are already owned by the globalists. It's all out there because they are already showing us now as to what they are up too. It's wakey-wakey time. 😇 I thought that i was replying to your post? But then again?

  38. Canada's GDP per person is up 1% or so in the last 15 years. The US GDP per person is up about 14% And yet, strangely, the US has reduced emissions by about 20% since 2005 while Canada is down a bare 8% So you're saying it's better to have a climate plan that doesn't work than to not have a climate plan? So what? So is the Liberal party's climate reduction plan, it's plan for EVs, and it's pretense that it's going to achieve net zero. Or even the belief that it SHOULD.

  39. For sake of argument, let's say that you are 100% correct in the above. What you are saying is that a sitting president had the US border handling immigrants illegally. For what, 3 years? And no court intervened. He wasn't arrested for this. He is now not being prosecuted for this. It seems a sitting American president can just dictate whatever he wants, whether it's illegal or not, and as long as he has either the Senate or the Congress, he gets away with it? Which means that Biden, or any of the previous presidents could theoretically break the law if they wanted to. Thats a strange reality, I think you are going to have to colour me skeptical on that one.

  42. Not sure why your hung up on this topic...you seem to bring it up every occasion you can....regardless of why NATO was put into play, nothing has really changed, The Russians still pose a threat to Europe, NATO command has deemed that the Russian threat has diminished slightly, China is now the main threat, which is why you see changes being made to ground forces, and naval forces.... with mother Russia taken second place...Still a major threat regardless of what is happening in Ukraine...NATO forces are the lowest they have ever been in the last 30 years...and it is Russia that has spurred all the latest spending of NATO countries scrambling to get caught up... I think you'll find France rejoined NATO in it's military capabilities only...it does not participated in decision making abilities but it does send troops into NATO conflicts... Your worlds may of changed, our world is still the same only some players have shifted around...leaving NATO would not have any benefits to Canada or our economy, i mean we are part of the club but do not respect any of the rules...were free loaders 99 % of the time...that part is what has changed...from doing our part to doing barely anything.

But - these days there's little excuse with an infinite number of recipes on line and youtube videos by the billion. Maybe we should be encouraging youtube inflencers to make more "why does this dish work" videos where they share a dish and explain what the components bring to the dish and possible substitutes so people start to get the idea. A lot of my fave personal recipes started with 'this would taste great with ....." Snicker - well everyone's daughters these days it would seem. People might learn a dish or two but they don't really learn to cook and that puts them at a severe disadvantage when prices on some foods are shooting through the roof and they don't know how to use the cheaper ones.
