The UN does not have the authority to put in place a cease fire, ....or to stop military actions, it may broker one if both sides agree....but until them it is a useless move...Both nations must be in agreeance of any motion that the UN councils drafts up...UN does not have the means to enforce anything, no troops or policemen.... and who in their right minds would volunteer their army for that job...Russia / Brazil ? not a chance... The only option is to vote for sanctions for not compiling, and does anyone think that the US will fold it's present position and vote for or veto the sanctions... the motion coming from Russia is kind of rich in my opinion....Russian should be praying the conflict goes on forever taking the attention off Ukraine and maybe divert some of NATO's assistance from Ukraine to Israel... This is going to stop unless Israel or the US agrees it is time to finish up...UN is a toothless organization, that has out lived it's purpose in regards to keeping the peace. Has anyone really looked at the destruction of Gaza most of the city is in ruins, flattened to the ground, electrical infra structure is destroyed, water and sewage systems damaged... UN should be planning on what to do with all the refugees.. not some cease fire. Even of the fighting was to stop today, hundreds of thousands are going to have no place to live or stay...and once the ground campaign gets started there will be nothing left but rubble.2 points

The Trudeau Liberals are destroying Canadian living standards by preventing major LNG and other energy and mining projects through crushing regulations and carbon taxes. The entire “climate crisis” crusade with its anti-human existence taxes (carbon taxes), subsidies for ineffectual “green power”, endless regulatory barriers, and similar infantile wishful thinking have made us weak and ridiculous. We could be building our pension plan, infrastructure, and housing through energy and mining royalties, business tax revenue, and high paying jobs. Get the kids away from the controls.2 points
-
Why?? Because no one in Canada or from elsewhere wants to invest in a mining operation and have to deal with all the federal, provincial and local rules and regulations and then having to try and get it out of the country to be processed and, having to pay Canadian wages. It just costs too much to do business in Canada, period. That is why most manufacturing has left Canada.2 points

I wouldn't say anyone has trained us so much as our own elites, who have long played up the need to compromise in all things, go 'go along to get along' with each other, and not do anything that offends or disturbs each other. Everything has to be by agreement - mass agreement - of anyone even remotely concerned and anywhere near whatever is being developed. To ensure this they've surrounded industry with so much regulation and bureaucracy nothing moves at more than a snails pace. Nothing is a better example than the Trans Mountain pipeline. The original was blasted through rough, raw territory in 1951 in less than a year. Easy peasy. The twin, which was to simply run alongside it, has taken years and years and YEARS of interminable studies, lobbying, negotiations, then back-and-forth discussions with natives, multiple court cases, more politicking, and condition after condition attached to the building, including huge bribes to every native group remotely near the route. Work on the pipeline has been going on for years, and is years behind schedule and tens of billions over budget Like every major project in Canada that involves the government. And EVERY major project in Canada now involves the government. Its fingers are into everything. Its rules and regulations control everything. Every year it comes out with new regulations, new administrative procedures, new policies and programs, and expands by hiring thousands of new bureaucrats to oversee it all. But then, ultimately, it's our fault for voting in these people. Go along to get along, right?2 points

https://www.dailyfetched.com/james-clapper-trump-will-seek-retribution-if-he-returns-to-white-house/ Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper voiced concerns that Donald Trump will put him on the “enemies list” if he is elected president in 2024. During an appearance on CNN, host Abby Phillip asked Clapper if he believed Trump had an “enemies list” and whether other high-ranking officials could be targeted if Trump regains power. Sounds like the FBI just woke up and realized what happens if the OTHER guys start pulling the same tricks they did, The fbi and the dems opened the door. For years and years political persecution of your political rival was off the table. Even trump was made to stand down over hillary. Now they've torn the lid off of that and made it acceptable. And of all people to do that with they decided to start with trump - easily one of the most vindictive people on the planet. And now they're about out of ammo and it didnt' stop him. And they're starting to get scare.d Welp - play stupid games win stupid prices. Maybe they'll think twice next time.1 point

Should one attend public events in Nazi Germany, "in the interests of science"? Professor of Manitoba university thinks, sure. Putin, a totalitarian dictator trying to fill the shoes of Hitler, perpetrates a brutal war of aggression in Europe and needs any signs that the resistance to his policies in the Western world is wavering. He paid all expenses for the couple to participate in his pet "event". In plain words, Putin, a charged war criminal, paid these folks to give him a show of support. The forum was sanctioned by Ottawa in September for "generating and disseminating disinformation and propaganda." "It is basically a Putin-curated, Kremlin-curated propaganda-fest," said Marcus Kolga, founder and director of DisinfoWatch and a senior fellow at both the Macdonald-Laurier and CDA institutes. "They tried to intimidate me," she said. "They ... implied that I should be ashamed of myself. And I said, 'I'm not ashamed.'" (Prof Desai) She says it's a privilege for an academic "to meet such people, to be able to converse with them, to understand what was happening in such key moments." Meeting and conversing with modern Hitler and his entourage, "a privilege"? How can individuals with this level of moral judgement and responsibility lead students in Canada? And how can and will it reflect on the school and Canadian academic community as a whole? While there are worrying signs that academic freedom is suppressed on the country's campuses we can observe grotesque examples like this in plain sight.1 point

What a load of nonsense. Boo Hoo Hoo. The DEMOCRATS started it? Ever heard of Whitewater? Huh? Investigate banking and turn it into investigating a guy’s sex life? How about Benghazi? Huh? Ever heard of that? How about the stupid email server? And let’s not forget… trying to bring impeachment charges against Biden on his Inauguration Day. So boo-hoo with your “We’re so innocent” nonsense. Now former President Shlthead is facing 91 felony charges plus piles of civil fraud charges plus rape and now he’s on the verge of being Constitutionally banned from running for office. Thats what happens when you elect a criminal. You knew he was a rapist before you elected him, you knew he was a fraud, you knew he discriminated against minorities. And Christ, if you thought the guy was honest you’re deluded. So spare us the crocodile tears. Vote for a guy who isn’t a lifelong criminal, dummy!1 point

It's almost like the UN wants Gaza to be able to retain the ability to keep launching terrorist attacks against Israel. The foreign aid will continue to pour into Gaza and Hamas will use much of it solely for the purpose of attacking Israel.1 point
-
Of course - and that is what they always do. However - the UN has time and time again failed to prevent this from happening again. They demand 'cooler heads prevail' and lets 'talk this out' - and then it happens again in a few years. So they can want a cease fire to their heart's content but isreal would be wise to ignore them this tiem around. A cease fire should be called ONLY when gaza surrenders and the UN agrees to take the survivors as refugees and get them the hell out of isreal.1 point

I saw an interview with Hakeem Jeffries this week, and he agrees with supporting a moderate Speaker. He said it’s not his goal to poach 8-20 Republican votes to make himself Speaker, but the U.S. Senate has a power sharing arrangement because the balance is so close, and it functions, while the House does not.1 point

"For Hamas, peace can only come to the Middle East when the Jews have been exterminated or expelled. The 1988 Hamas Covenant , which outlines its goals, intentions and direction, states that, “The Palestinian problem is a religious problem.” Followers of other religions who dispute Islam’s sovereignty in the region will be met with “nothing but carnage, displacement and terror.” The promised carnage and terror arrived early in the morning on Oct. 7. Babies beheaded , as has now been confirmed by Israeli government sources, with mothers and fathers also butchered at the Kfar Aza kibbutz. Around 260 party-goers slaughtered at a music festival with reports of multiple rapes. People gunned down as they waited at bus stops or going about their daily lives, the bodies left strewn in streets and houses. Up to 150 people kidnapped and now held hostage in Gaza, with Hamas threatening to execute them. The list of atrocities goes on from the rampage that left over 1,300 Israelis dead. By committing such heinous acts, making no attempt to hide their vile crimes, Hamas announced to the world that it was at war with Israel. Canada must therefore act immediately against Hamas and those who fund it, supply arms to it and allow its terrorist activities to endanger innocent lives and global stability. Canada should begin lobbying the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate Hamas for war crimes. Taking hostages, mutilating bodies, rape and attacking civilians are all war crimes under international law. Any investigation should encompass Ismail Haniyeh , the millionaire leader of Hamas who lives in luxury in Qatar and ordered the attacks. unquote " Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper ceased aid to UNRWA because of its alleged ties to Hamas, but the Liberals restored funding in 2016. This aid should be halted immediately." NP View: Canada must help bring Hamas down (msn.com) Why are Trudeau and the Liberals always so slow to act or unwilling to act at all on important issues? Europe and the other countries of the Five Eyes seem to be far ahead of Canada in doing something about threats. We have seen how slow Canada acted with regard to Huawei, slow in dealing with election interference. Opposition parties begged the government for months to start an enquiry but they never acted until the fiasco with the former governor general played out and he resigned. Notice babies beheaded has now been confirmed by Israeli government sources.1 point

If you think only Europeans can be psychopaths, watch The Killing Fields. I saw this movie shortly after living in Sri Lanka. IMHO, Buddhists are possibly worse because while they usually avoid expressions of desire, they sometimes go rogue - like an elephant1 point

The rich American Mel Brooks foolishly made fun of Hitler and the Nazis. Too many Russians (and others) died to stop this latest European psychopath. This cataclysm started in 1914. We eventually defeated him and then in the late 1940s, we created a structure of peace. True, we defeated the Soviets in 1991. IMHO, we need a new structure of peace. I prefer peace. For most ordinary European people, for several generations, the world after 1648 and after 1815 was good Ordinary Europeans deserve at least a century of peace after 1990 - they got it after 1815.1 point

If you're crazy enough, watch this movie. In 1975, according to data that I could find, it cost $6 million (roughly the same production cost as The Godfather made in 1972). But this bomb only generated $3 million in revenue. It has Burt Reynolds and Cybill Shepherd (neither can sing) in a musical:1 point

https://www.reuters.com/world/do-not-get-involved-israel-crisis-top-us-general-warns-iran-2023-10-10/ Do not get involved in Israel crisis, top U.S. general warns Iran The United States' top general on Monday warned Iran not to get involved in the crisis in Israel and said he did not want the conflict to the broaden, as Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired a salvo of rockets onto northern Israel The White House earlier on Monday said that Iran was complicit even though the United States has no intelligence or evidence that points to Iran's direct participation in attacks in Israel by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas. Asked what his message for Iran was, General Charles Q. Brown, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said: "Not to get involved." Well this should get interesting.1 point

Some opinions are decided by a bell-curve. And other opinions are yes/no - open to debate. And still other opinions have no other side: Sorry, the Nazis were simply wrong. We've solved that problem.1 point
-
Doesn't mean it should never be used, but that also doesn't mean it needs to be used, and that its lack of use implies some hidden approval or sympathy. The Nazis were evil, but the BBC didn't call them evil in WW2 for the same reason, and not calling them evil didn't mean the BBC sympathized with them. Nobody is saying they're not terrorists. ?♂️1 point

Another lie. Isreal has never 'carpet bombed' gaza. If anything their responses have been VERY moderate. Sure - Hamas builds it's rocket launchers and facilities where civvies are going to get hit and isreal hits them anyway - as they should - but they have not overtly targeted civilians nor have they indiscriminately bombed on any kind of wide scale basis. What they should do now is drive the population into a small area, kill every person who isn't in that area, then make the rest of the world who's sooooo sympathetic take them as refugees. THen bulldoze the entire strip and plant some trees. End of problem.1 point
-
They absolutely have. the Palastinians could at any time have decided on a course of peace and reconciliation and isreal would have been very open to it, But instead they elected hamas as their gov't. They've never even tried to live peacefully with isreal. So isreal doesn't trust them. And they blame isreal for that - which is bonkers. "We want you all to be dead". also - "Gosh, why don't you trust us and let us do what we want?" You know how you get out of an 'open air prision'? Quit acting like psychotic criminals. I'll make this simple. The palesinians have been enemies and hostile since day one. THEY are the reason there is no peace - had they made a serious effort the moderates in isreal would eventually have won out and they could both be living happy lives. And now you're trying to claim on their behalf that ISREAL is responsible for making peace happens. It was them all along and they''ve blown it for generations now. Not the way it works. You cannot justify the attack and targeted slaughter of those innocent people - SOME OF WHOM WERE CANADIAN. Drive them out - scatter them to the winds - take the land back. Deal with the 'outrage' later, god knows the world has proven it's got a short memory when it comes to that. And at the end of the day you end that threat and you send a message to other potential enemies that you're not interested in playing nice any more and htey might want to think about that. There is nothing you can say that makes what palestine did ok. And there's nothing you can say that eliminates Isreal's right to eliminate a threat any less real.1 point

I never understood why countries like Canada went the immigration route over incentivizing people to have more children. In the end immigrants don't get us ahead once all their aging extended family come over. Though it's not easy, for example South Korea has spent a ton and it barely affected birth rates. Programs need to be well considered... I think we often do what's politically popular and not cutting right to the reason why fewer people are having children1 point

Ok, who would make a good Speaker is the question on the floor....here. Now obviously in a Republican controlled House, the Republicans will fix not vote a Republican in to replace Kevin McCarthy , so, in the interests if the Questioner Author of this topic I suggest either Ted Buds of North Carolina or Joni Ernst of Iowa.1 point

Those alleged "civilians" voted to let Hamas call the shots. They are no less responsible than the Japanese people who elected the leadership that attacked Pearl Harbor. If Netanyahu NUKES that strip, those people deserve it. They have Jewish blood on their hands. Turkey has always been that guy everyone whispers about at NATO conferences, the black sheep so to speak...I think in turkeys case it is better to hold them close and have some control over them, than have them as an enemy or on the outside...Turkey is one of the strongest Muslim countries in regards to militaries, and the technology they have access to, that has developed some of the worlds leading military equipment for all 3 elements, navy, army, Air force ... That being said Turkey has butted heads with most of NATO at one time or another...and I'm sure most have considered kicking them out.. This is an example of the differences in culture, they are definitely on the right , and Europe is on the left on almost everything...but when it comes to Israel, The only ones that really have Israel back is the US, and back in harpers years Canada...while Europe may condemn Palestinians actions today, once Israel gets its ground operations going Europe's tone will change, it always does...atleast with turkey Israel always knows were it stands... To kick turkey out would be a mistake, regardless of how difficult they get...What we should be worried about is does Turkey want to leave the alliance...as being in the alliance is not a popular idea amongst it's citizens who sees NATO as not in their best interests...Having them on the outside could mean a new twist in middle eastern affairs, one that may not be in our best interests...1 point
