So...let's get this straight: It's more likely to you that Tucker got fired because AOC (one of Fox's favorite targets for ridicule) called for it, than the fact that 3 days before his last show Fox had to settle a defamation suit for $800M on account of his lies? That's the most logical explanation for you! Really?!? ?3 points

Once i retired i went to back to work as a civilian in Gagetown, and your right the benefits would make CEO jealous, 25 paid vacation days, plus 1 sick day per month paid which you could accumulate, no doctors note required if you used only 2 at a time, plus one week family time, which is one week, plus odds and sods, like Friday afternoons off, or the occasional long weekend... just in days off thats 44 paid days off, plus medical and dental coverage, training is all paid for, it is one of the securest jobs you can have. The other day, i had borrowed some tools before the strike and went back on base to return them, i was stopped and asked for my ID card by one of the strikers, which was odd... they are allowed to hold up each car for up to 2 minutes if your military, the average wait time to get on base was 3 hours....if your not military they can refuse to let you on... What i don't get is they beef is with Ottawa, not with those on the base, and yet as tempers flair it is the guys on the base that take the brunt of it, trust me waiting 3 hours to get on base tempers get testy... the same guys that these people have to work with or for once the strike is done...and the Union has threaten to move their protest to other areas to disrupt regular workers that is going to be making even more friends, and problems...It's not the government they are worried about it is regular Canadians who are not going to put up with this shit...2 points

Holy crap. It takes some next-level lickspittle skills to see in black and white that the guy has been deliberately -and with full knowledge and intention- lying to you for years and then call him a paragon of virtue. Super sub to Carlson's rescue!2 points

I bet he’s going to go the way of another shameless right wing liar Alex Jones. Can’t wait to see him wheeling into court in a fake wheelchair pretending to be disabled man with no money the way Alex did. Maybe he can write his dear friend Hunter Biden and ask for yet another favour and borrow some money.2 points

While many Canadians were laid of, cut hours, lost jobs, etc, public servants got to go home and basically sit there and get full pay. Add to that the fact they had no expenses, be it no daycare, no gas to go to work, no bus passes, not lunches, not employment expenses etcand they have the nerve to say they are hard off?? Oh and while the pandemic was going on, they got a raise. "Their pay is about 9% higher than comparable private-sector workers’. They have far better benefits, longer vacations, much richer pensions after fewer years of work and, as we were reminded during the pandemic, face almost no risk of layoff." Sorry, tough to feel bad for PSAC. https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/gunter-dear-federal-workers-heres-why-youre-despised2 points

So no actual examples? It's amazing how often conservatives will make a statement about leftists, then when asked for examples of the claims, they got nothing. Your brains have all been melted by right-wing media.2 points

What have what Mexicans hold as idols have to do with the cost of the Pope's visit to Canada? Absolutely nothing whatsoever. If you want to start a discussion you can't just tie two completely unrelated subjects together like a cheap Internet meme and pretend they're connected. You've already lost an argument/discussion if you start with a 'whataboutism'.2 points

Canada is a basket case of multiple forms and branches of government, each one taxing, borrowing from, and spending for the taxpayer to the maximum level possible. The federal government needs to be reduced significantly, by at least 50%. They should only manage essential federal services like ports, airports, Canada Post, military, and a few other items that are interprovincial. Their parameters of policy must be restricted. Our federal government interferes with provinces on a wide range of issues, from health to housing to energy. They expand their bureaucracy and wages to ensconce themselves and delegate work. Canada keeps creeping further towards Chinese-style central planning and overreach. We lose freedom and our living standards sink.2 points

Tucker will get the last laugh. Fox’s stock is down almost a billion today. He’ll get a huge contact to start another show somewhere else, and will be freer to express his views. Just as things are starting to fall apart for Biden.1 point

Legal beagles say a $787 million award from a jury would have been thrown out on appeal as being far too high. So FOX was willing to settle for hundreds of millions more just so Murdoch, Carlson and Co. wouldn't have to testify under oath.1 point

It's all just fun and games for cable news channel ratings until it begins to cost money, as in defamation, libel, slander, etc. lawsuits and legal costs. Those kind of hits are just not sustainable. CBS News learned the lesson with Dan Rather and his lies about George W. Bush's national guard record. "60 Minutes" was gutted for that little political escapade.1 point

Here's a source that's still leaning left - the bbc. And even they have to admit it's the left https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-57286341 An annual report released by the ADL in April found that 2,024 anti-Semitic incidents were reported in 2020, dropping 4% from an all-time high in 2019. Last year saw the third-highest number of reports of assault, harassment and vandalism toward American Jews since the ADL first began tracking the data in 1979. The Democrats' 'tectonic' shift on Israel Experts say the recent attacks are being driven more from the political left than ever before. It comes as pro-Palestinian supporters blame American Jews for Israeli government policies. in the most recent attacks "no one is wearing Maga hats", he added, referring to the Make America Great Again Hats worn by Trump supporters. And that's from a left of center source in a left of center paper. The left sided with paliestine and now hate the jews. There are NUMEROUS sources that note this. ANd like i said - it ain't the people on the right that are making direct anti jew statements here. That would be people like americana antifa.1 point

it never went to trial. I doubt it was 'amicable' as in both parties wanted it, but we'll see what they do. THey knew everything he was doing from the get go. If anything they pushed him. His emails made it clear he was the one complaining about the coverage being 'nonsense' and the like. It was more accuate to say it was the network's lies and not his. I doubt this is directly related.1 point
-
Well...the polarization and frothing mouths has been good to Fox and CNN alike, but I think both networks are starting to realize that a race for the journalistic and intellectual bottom isn't a great long-term strategy, despite the short-term ratings boosts. CNN ratings have tanked with outrage-mongers Cuomo and Lemon getting fired/demoted, and I suspect the same will happen with Fox with Carlson gone (and I wouldn't be surprised if Hannity follows). Maybe there's a chance they both go back to something resembling actual news? ?♂️1 point

LMAO Suuuuure….That’s why fox settled for $787 Million with another $2.7Bn lawsuit about to blow up their entire business and Tucker privately admitted he doesn’t even believe the horeshit he feeds to gullible followers like you. I bet he and his buddy Hunter will have some real good laughs over brandy and cigars at the next Biden family bbq.1 point

You can't fire him during a trial. That'd be an implication of guilt. They fired him once they knew the case was resolved and how much it cost them. It's very clear this wasn't an amicable split either, else Fox would have given him some sort of send-off. Just pulling his show out of the blue speaks volumes about what happened. There's complicity there, for sure, but there is a difference between his lies and the network's. In Tucker Carlson's case, there were enough donkey-brains out there slurping his nonsense that his ratings justified Fox News giving him air-time. Once it became clear that the financial/legal costs of his lies and toxic bullshit couldn't be justified, they pulled the plug on him.1 point

I imagine he was asked to resign, since the cost of his endless lying and bullshit-spinning was starting to get too high for Fox. He'll no doubt land somewhere deeper and darker in the conspiracy clown scene, but at least this is one less "Alex Jones" on network news.1 point

Sometimes there’s little difference. He made his millions off his lies, I’m sure he left with a golden parachute too. Now he joins other disgraced Fox castoffs like sexual predators O’Reilly and Ailes. Better question is: who is the new cult leader? Given that each of them sees it as their mission to be more extreme than the last guy what’s next? Open calls for terrorist attacks? Calls for US rogue “patriot” military members to defect to Russia? Bomb the White House?1 point

I agree with most of that, but here's the problem: If the NDP won't support back-to-work legislation, and PP won't either, there are only two possible outcomes to this strike. Either the Liberals will cave to the union and enrich their already over-the-top compensation, or we'll have a long and expensive strike and maybe (but doubtfully) the union will eventually cave. This is like a tragic comedy, with Pierre Poilievre endlessly (and mostly fairly) criticizing Justin's overspending , but when the latter finally looks ready to take a more fiscally disciplined stance on something, the former refuses his support in lieu of backing him into a corner. What do you think the end result is going to be? With no other options, do you think Trudeau is going to cave to the union, or try to wait out a long and expensive strike against what is probably a good chunk of his constituency? This, I think, tells us exactly the sort of politician that PP is.1 point

In order for it to be 'sedition' (referred to as 'seditious intention' according to Code), one would have to advocate the use of force (without the authority of law) as a means of accomplishing a governmental change within Canada. Sure, but don't confuse that for when someone actually is repeating nazi talking-points. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_Marxism_conspiracy_theory This is probably the most common right-wing conspiracy theory, which is saying a lot, considering how obsessed the Right is with conspiracies. It's practically become part of conservative dogma. That's why hate crimes against Jews and LGBT people are both on the rise. There's a clear connection here.1 point

I'm sure you wish that was true, but you know better. That dude is the perfect example of average Americans. Yes. I don't even think teachers need to make a point of saying it, they just need to represent gay couples the same way they represent straight couples. There are plenty of children's books with straight couples, they should also make sure they have some with gay couples. If a kid asks if boys can marry boys, or whatever, just say yes and that will be all it takes. Children's media already depicts heterosexuality all the time. This idea that they can't do the exact same thing with homosexuality because "human sexuality and relationships are complex" is such a cop out. If a cartoon depicts a boy having a crush on a girl, nobody is ever like, BUT HOW WILL CHILDREN UNDERSTAND THIS?!!! ? Do you really believe this? Drag Story time, sure. Discussing gender, if it comes up, sure. But do you honestly believe anyone wants to talk to kids about getting sex reassignment surgery? Can you name any mainstream trans activist who wants that to be part of school curriculum? The mainstream argument, which I agree with, is that we should leave all of that up to the doctors, just like we do with every other medical issue. Should we also ban all references to heterosexuality? Just let the parents talk to kids about things like marriage? Of course not, because that would be insane and impossible to even attempt. Why should we have double standards here? You're working pretty hard to make this more complicated than it is. If the problem here is follow-up questions, I don't know, I guess never talk to kids ever? But really, when most kids find out some kids have two moms or two dads, their reaction is "Oh... I'm never getting married. I want to play Fortnight." Hey! So we agree again. Kids seeing homosexuality depicted in a family-friendly way, just like we already do with heterosexuality, is ok. Based. My dude, it's all they talk about. Transphobia, Hunter Biden, and wokeness. And none of it has been working. This is the true face of America:1 point

The judge just randomly said this: but that comment is unsupported by the rest of the article. As a country we need to understand that our government is out of control and is losing all respect from a lot of Canadians. Leftists might not agree with that, but it's a very real thing, and it's well-deserved. The gesundheitspass was a crime against young, healthy people who never needed the vax and were forced to take it after we already knew that the Pfizer jab was absolutely not a vaccine. I never thought I'd see the day when conspiracy theories were routinely proving to be true while our own government was being exposed as a fraud. Our democracy is failing on very important levels and this wingnut has somewhat of a point: although it's true that the government of Canada does have legal authority over us, and people like him can be put in jail for back-talking a judge, the gov't has utterly ceased to represent us. We are ruled. This is not the democracy we grew up with.1 point

1. Judge has to explain to the citizens the necessity and justice of a lengthy prison term for a non-violent crime. 2. This is dissent. Dissent punished by long jail sentence to make an example. Do you see anything wrong with the approach?1 point

I don't here PP coming to the aid of PSAC either, frankly PSAC is not the most popular in Canada right now, PSAC needs to be told just how good they got it, compare to the average worker in Canada. frankly i would like the government to legislate them back to work, and back to the office, don't like that here is your pink slip, lots or ordinary Canadians would love to slip into one of these jobs with all the benefits... Maybe thats all they need is shown some reality...1 point

From my understanding as of today, Canadian truck drivers that have not been vaccinated cannot enter America. Their lives have been shattered. They have lost plenty of money. Public safety and health had nothing to do with it. How can there have been so many stupid Canadians out there believe that closing the border was a safe thing to do. Did people actually believe that viruses will not cross any borders unless viruses asked if they can do so first? How did closing the border stop any covid virus from entering either country? As far as I know, viruses do not obey boundary's or covid like rules. Viruses come and go as they please. The whole shut down the border thing was one big farce and a joke on we the sucker peasants. Sadly, most Canadians will believe anything their dear comrade leaders and the lying MSM tells them. Such gullible fools indeed. Pathetic people indeed. ?1 point
