If we throw away all out traditions that make us Canada, we will not longer be Canada. We will become a drab, grey stalinist republic. Every constitutional monarch in the world reigns over the most democratic progressive nations around. Japan, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Canada. OTOH, republics have presidents like Biden, Xi, Putin and Trump. The latter two assumed office with no training or skill. We have a King who has been learning his craft for 60 years. He is intelligent, knowledgeable, and hard working. Monarchy is not a popularity contest. Ours is a system that has worked for more than 1500 years, always improving and evolving. Trying to replace the institution is more than stupid and reflects to ignorance of those who would try.3 points

Well, that is your opinion, your entitled to it, i'm sure you would feel differently if the government had taken the same course with you, or something you felt strongly about... Nobody's lives were ruined, they were inconvenient, but ruin come on that's a little dramatic is it not. And not everyone in Ottawa feels that way. Yup some of them were spoiled brats, but racists and misogynistic is a reach based on a few people actions. That and our government used every opportunity to stick it to this group be it made up or outright lies... No Canadian should be treated that way.3 points

The wokest politicians are people like AOC and the squad who beg for help with their student loans while everyone else on earth pays off their business loans, car loans, mtgs, etc. The wokest people are the welfare bums who burn, loot and riot with impunity because they have no jobs to lose if they get caught. The wokest people are fat with blue or pink hair, they have nose rings and facial tattoos, etc. You can spot woke people from a mile away, they're typically gross. I think it's more of a case where they support the MSM more than they think they do. Reality is that M Brown wasn't a gentle giant at all: he was an angry loser criminal. When wokists took to the streets "in support of M Brown" they were really just being CNN toadies by supporting their bullshit narrative. The police and the FBI are entirely different things: police fight crime in their communities and the FBI are political operators like the KGB who see fighting crime as a prop to boost their credibility. Wokists love the FBI because wokists don't care about laws either and they also live and breathe for the Dems. Conservatives don't hate police at all, but we do hate activists with badges. 1) FYI not all LGBTQ people are leftists or wokists, they're 2 separate groups. I'll agree that where the two groups mix, you do get some of the most militant, idiotic wokists. 2) Wokists are generally naive and stupid people, and they've been sucked into this pseudovax BS hard. They completely lack empathy for the vax-injured, they just can't let go of the SJW status that they get from shouting down "anti-vaxxers". Yes, I meet wokists all the time. One of our daughters has a masters degree, she's spent enough time on campus to be indoctrinated to the point where she often says things that she knows to be false.2 points

Why go through the whole process, if we are not going to make it better, get rid of the GG as well, change everything that is linked with the past. No one wants to reopen the constitution is telling about our nation is it not, and it is not like it is a finished document that all provinces agreed to and signed...we just gave up, everyone quit and went home, or they were just too damn lazy.2 points

A few questions. From a practical point of view, why do you want to change it? Abandon all hope of what exactly? Does this country not have enough more important issues or is getting rid of the Monarchy just another diversion to avoid dealing with them?2 points

I’d say that the big bad move of the Liberals was declaring any real opposition to be racist, misogynist, unacceptable, and by extension unemployable and even criminal. The message became, fall in line with the mandates, overreach, and a set of values that may be counter to your own and even your constitutional rights. In Canada you have to publicly express shame over your country, act as though fringe lifestyles are normal, treat gender as though it’s got little to do with biology, and give preferential treatment to certain races and groups that the state defines as victims. But even if we all pretend to think that all of the above is good and just, to me and many the most horrifying part of the pandemic “health measures” that our government championed was seeing family holidays and freedom of movement, assembly, and religion declared non-essential and banned. The elderly were shut up in homes and sometimes abandoned without visitors in the name of safety. People’s judgement and rights weren’t respected and this was all in the name of public health, yet the high costs of these privations are still with us. People who saw the danger to our basic humanity and tried to push back had martial law declared against them. I could talk about other dubious or even bad values, like euthanasia for the mentally ill and late term abortion. Trudeau is a hypocrite. He calls himself Catholic yet he essentially banned people who aren’t pro choice from getting federal jobs. That’s ideologically intrusive on the level of Stalin. I don’t respect this oppressive government. The main reasons I want the Conservatives to win are to ensure that people are free to follow their conscience, say what they think, have their own spaces and families, and pursue their interests without interference from the state. I understand and accept that some people genuinely believe in the Marxist-nihilist woke cancel culture and subversion of biological reality, norms, religion, etc., but don’t try to make people publicly agree with those ideas and lifestyles when they don’t like or believe in them. Defending free speech means defending it for both ends of the political spectrum. And don’t mess with constitutional rights! Poilievre must bolster and safeguard our rights. We don’t even have protection of property in Canada. That must change.2 points

https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/01/politics/joe-biden-democracy-speech/index.html Joe Biden, the guy whose gov't has been caught ordering social media giants to crush free speech, who used the FBI to retrieve his daughter's lost diary, who had the FBI lie about Hunter's laptop, is calling Trump a fascist now. What's worse, his alt-left media is just parroting him, oblivious to the danger. What a worthless dipshit. He needs to have a stroke, and soon. Here is how his vitriol was described by CNN in a different article: Even though they know that he said this: Biden said that he'd be the guy who would try to bring people together, and here he is two years later, just as divisive and hateful as ever.1 point

CBC is over produced and they have an agenda. More and more of their programing plays to tiny segments of the listenership/population. Call it 'woke' if you want, but the fact remains that CBC has become a monitor of all things politically advantageous to the left's preoccupation with 'correctness'. They are left of center, and I suspect they've lost listenership over their choice to be left of center. It would be interesting to see if they would be able to survive with half of the funding they get from the taxpayer.1 point

I fully agree with you, defending free speech means defending it from both ends of the spectrum. For the last seven years it has seemed, to me anyway, that my rights as a Conservative Christian have been attacked. For one example, think back to the summer of 2019 when the Trudeau govt. denied summer job grants for students who might chose to work with any organization that didn't agree with their liberal policies. Church organizations responded, holding that they were being forced to either choose between their religious convictions or the money that helped to run summer camps and programs which had nothing to do with abortion etc.1 point

But even if we don’t get economic collapse, the culture war remains. I meant what I said when I suggested that we may have to have two different education systems, as the Catholic versus public dichotomy that’s constitutionally protected doesn’t mean much when even the “religious” education essentially espouses Marxism and nihilism, putting race at the heart of what matters about people, creating a cancer culture where kids are turned into spineless jellyfish who are triggered by their own shadows, and teaching people to hate their country because the past didn’t reflect the values of the present. I want my kids attending schools where they are still called boys and girls, where sexual orientation and identity aren’t advertised on flags, where racial identity isn’t what matters most about people and isn’t what determines if someone is good or bad, deserving or underserving, where people can speak their minds without fear of reprisal or cancellation, and where constitutional freedoms are celebrated rather than dismissed. I’m not sure that’s even a religious education, but people should be able to express their religious beliefs, views for or against climate change policies, etc. Don’t get me wrong, people can and should be able to share their woke beliefs too. That’s the whole point. Free and active debate is essential to liberal-democracy. If people want to set up woke schools where only certain views that some ideologues define as acceptable are allowed, kids are told that gender is a social construct, white people are oppressors, Canada is bad or worse than most countries because of “colonialism”, and people who question such narratives are retrograde and unacceptable, well I don’t want anything to do with such organizations. I don’t want to work or learn or live in such an atmosphere. There is little here resembling Charter rights, meritocracy, science, or values. That’s the divide now. People are so fed up with pretending to believe what they don’t in order to be acceptable in their jobs, as parents, and as citizens, that they’re going to push back, at least those people will who have the strength or opportunity to do so. That’s likely inevitable no matter how much better or worse the economy is reported to be performing. Yet economic hardship, if it gets much worse and more widespread, will only hasten and accentuate the cultural divide, and since the woke are the overreacting authorities and elites in this battle, yes they will feel much political pushback, and rightly so.1 point

This isn't the first time you claimed being a Christian....because you said, you like and you follow the philosophy of Christ. I remember you saying that way back - in fact I've used your claim in some arguments in other forums, as an example of muddled thinking. Why muddled thinking, you ask. Let me run this by you: For a new atheist like you, who mocks the existence of God - how can you even say you like the philosophy of Christ? YOU DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND HIS MESSAGE! Obviously, you don't know His philosophy! The philosophy of Christ is centered on just these alone: GLORY TO GOD GLORY FOR GOD GLORY WITH GOD. It is centered on the most important commandment of all - “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Therefore - without believing in God - how can you even imagine following or liking the philosophy of Christ? How can you even listen to someone whom you think is either a looney tune, or a scam artist? You like philosophy? here's a good one for you: Just because your lips are flapping, doesn't mean you're saying anything. ?1 point

If I was going to change the monarchy it would be to give it some measure of moral suasion over the governments it symbolically leads. In the Queen we had a person who might have had some real ability to instill more capacity in political leaders to be more trustworthy towards all commonwealth subjects. I don't know if that potential has been lost with Elizabeth's passing or not. I truly think most people are starving for a leader they can place some faith in.1 point

Bullshit its all bullshit. More twaddle has been seriously expended about the threat of totalitarianism these last couple years then there was about Islam following 9/11. The reason for dispatching the twaddle should be obvious. You guys are really starting to sound desperate. Political desperation is just another step towards political violence. If PP is serious about attracting serious voters he should start dispatching the totalitarian hooey so many of his followers engage in spreading.1 point

Considering it would take unanimous consent of the Commons, Senate and all the provinces, the chances of changing our Constitution to get rid of the Monarchy are pretty slim. I don't think it will happen in my lifetime, which is fine. If it works, leave it alone before you screw it up.1 point

What bafflegab nonsense. 1). There’s “a theory” that Republicans would have done everything way better than FDR if only they’d been in charge. Right. There’s probably also “a theory” that Trump could have played hockey way better than Gretzky but he didn’t feel like it. Remember the shots on goal that Gretzky missed? There’s “a theory” that Trump would’ve made them. Remember the games Gretzky’s teams lost? There’s “a theory” that Trump would have won them. It’s easy for Republicans to make up baseless shit after fact with zero evidence. 2).In the case of the Republicans fraudulent criminal invasion of Iraq, “Winning the peace” was a major part of winning war. Losing the peace means losing the war. The whole reason they invaded Iraq was supposedly to rid it of non-existent WMDs and non-existent terrorists that they fabricated evidence for. And their promise of new prosperous peaceful Iraq was part of the deal.1 point

I did clearly state that the US did make a huge contribution to winning the war. Without the effort of the US most or all of Europe may have been steamrolled by Stalin. Who knows how far Japan could have gone without the US military as an opponent. If you interpret that comment as me giving a big FU to Americans that gave their lives in the war effort then you got it wrong. Many countries made huge sacrifices during WW2. If you read anything I post on here I am certainly not anti-American and I am in fact a fan of the US. I just hate to see the country in decline thanks to poor leadership and foolish policies.1 point

America made a huge contribution to winning WW2 but most people forget we were allied with the brutal Russian dictatorship and this article states that it was the Russians that inflicted fully 75% of the total casualties against the Germans. You haven't actually been involved in politics, have you. Years ago, I went after the Conservative nomination in my riding. It was the start of my trajectory towards my destiny of becoming Prime Minister. The most common question I got was words to the effect, "what are you going to do for me / my business" " I didn't even get a "what are you going to do for us?" Everybody had their hand out. I was offended. I believed the job of a Member of Parliament was to serve all Canadians. These were not Grits or New Democrats. I was just going after the Conservative nomination. I diplomatically said I wanted to see Canadian taxpayer money spent where it was needed. I did not believe in handouts for people who don't need it. We won that riding and we won the election, but I wasn't the candidate. Candidates need to be aware that the motivation for choosing whom to vote for is how much money will the voter get. Yes, hating the scotsman who is our current Prime Minister is pretty strong, but greed is what drives a voter. As Conservatives, we all want to see the government cut wasteful spending, as long as it doesn't hurt me.1 point
