  1. Fair enough, but if you like "In your face" journalism (I don't, really) then you have to condemn Global for going after Poilievre AND Trudeau on a beach having private time with his family. And you have to condemn scum rag The Rebel, although it's easier there because they don't have any substance. True conservatives have principles. If you make a rule, your team has to follow it too.

  2. Trudeau's been criticized heavily, both in the media and just generally, for his bromidic platitudes and vapid "sunny day" answers. Every time he opens his mouth I can pretty much pre-empt what he's going to say by stringing together words like, "As Canadians, we have to be look forward to the future and we can be proud of how Canadian we are in our hope for Canada and something something Unity blah blah blah."

  3. 1. Nope. 2. Nope. 3. He's not my clown, I consider him a silly little dilettante. How he managed to make you people so afraid of him that you'll compare Canada to Nazi Germany and assume anyone who doesn't share your delusion is also a Nazi is disturbing. It suggests you people will accept and do whatever it takes to make you feel safe again.

  8. And all those "talking heads" on CTV with Evan Solomon - who shallowly say, "yes David Aiken went out of line.....but, he apologised for it." And then get this, they freakin' focused on the fact that Poilievre called Akin a "LIBERAL HECKLER!" Why wouldn't Poilievre think and say that? I thought that myself - without being told! That's how it looked like on tv, oh you talking idiots! That's their issue! The talking heads nimbly turned the situation around to focus the attack on Poilievre instead. And they wonder why people have lost trust in the media? Hello? You treat us like idiots!

  9. Oh FFS I didn't work for the last Census because I saw so much whining over a short form census by Jed Clampett and sovereign person types about their privacy, they'd have to pay me $65 an hour or more. It's a census, it figures out how much funding and infrastructure planning is needed in your country, province, city or rural district. Just STFU and fill it out. Online - in like 5 minutes.

  10. ....with CENSORSHIP! I'm sick and tired of it! Livid with being held hostage by a mostly biased, if not leftist propaganda Liberal or ANTI-CONSERVATIVE machines! Who the heck voted for this GLOBAL NEWS idiot - David Aikin - to censor what I'm trying to hear? I want to hear what Poilievre was going to say, not some freakin undisciplined and unethical trashy reporter from Global News yapping it up - disrupting and being disrespectful not only to Poilievre, but especially to................................. ME - the viewer! I didn't interrupt my routine to hear a freakin reporter with his issues! I was there to hear what this candidate for PM was going to say! If this immature, UNPROFESSIONAL man who calls himself a journalist wants to question Poilievre - then, freakin get in line, idiot! I want to listen to Poilievre's message - not your stupid questions! I'm not the only one! Btw..... Have you apologised to Mr Poilievre?

  11. 1) 2) Oh... so it's ok when your guy doesn't like the reporter. Got it... 3) Biden likely died 8 years ago. Poilievre though is alive, vibrant, and full of piss, vinegar, and Bitcoin (originally from the government $)

  12. Trudeau gets away with it (sort of) because by now the majority of Canadians are convinced he's well-meaning, albeit shallow and not that bright. Poilievre can't afford such a reputation. He needs to be seen as bright and knowledgeable. He'll have to start answering questions before long.

  13. Remember during the Tea Party days when that Union Rep type came down to one rally wearing a leather jacket with nazi insignias all over it but the organizers were ready for that sort of thing, so they followed him around until he left with a sign over his head, "Not one of us." That's what this David Akin thing reminds me of.

I'm pretty sure betsy of 20 years ago would be shocked with 2022 betsy being ok with a Lesbian 2nd in command in the Conservative party. It's called "progress", which is a dirty word to some but not you. Welcome to freedom. You are finally becoming conservative.

  20. A childish strawman argument, kudos. Trudeau picked a 50/50 cabinet which had absolutely no basis in merit whatsoever - it was just a woke joke. There's a 99% chance that our country wasn't run by the most capable people available to our PM at the time and that should matter to you. I'm a conservative. If I felt like he picked some lesbians to look good I'd be pretty pissed, but I'd rather have an actual conservative in an important cabinet position, who happens to be a lesbian, than Jean Charest.

  21. Are you afraid of Pierre Poilievre, afraid his intelligence and enthusiasm will overwhelm your little Port Alberni welfare world? Afraid of anyone who will try to get Canada back on its feet again? Your clown in Ottawa has done major damage to this country. I consider him a traitor, and his devoted followers as fools.

  22. Yeah paranoid dummies like tech genius Elon Musk and Democrat influencer Bill Maher compared Trudeau to Hitler. I guess we can add the word “paranoid” to the list of insults used to dismiss people who disagree with Liberal policy: racist misogynist conspiracy theorist unacceptable paranoid

  23. The United States is the only civilised country without a federal consumption tax. Given your federal debt/GDP ratio, your federal government needs more money. Make no mistake: You will have this tax soon. ==== In Canada, we chose to make the tax visible (GST). In Europe, it's part of the price (VAT).

  24. It's just too simple for the simple minded to grasp. Instead of a boatload of programs and bureaucracies you have one. You don't have to file for EI or welfare or CPP. They send you like $1500 a month to live on. When you work it pushes you into a higher tax bracket and they get most of it back. And they don't have to pay umpteen thousands of extra staff to run all those agencies. And please explain how giving you Welfare or EI causes inflation as it is now? Plus there already is all those 'lazy bastards who won't work' as it is, that regardless still had to shop in my store, pay for my services or buy the things that the company I work for makes. If they think scraping by is good, to hell with them. I'll still take their money. It's as good as yours!

  25. You haven't actually been involved in politics, have you. Years ago, I went after the Conservative nomination in my riding. It was the start of my trajectory towards my destiny of becoming Prime Minister. The most common question I got was words to the effect, "what are you going to do for me / my business" " I didn't even get a "what are you going to do for us?" Everybody had their hand out. I was offended. I believed the job of a Member of Parliament was to serve all Canadians. These were not Grits or New Democrats. I was just going after the Conservative nomination. I diplomatically said I wanted to see Canadian taxpayer money spent where it was needed. I did not believe in handouts for people who don't need it. We won that riding and we won the election, but I wasn't the candidate. Candidates need to be aware that the motivation for choosing whom to vote for is how much money will the voter get. Yes, hating the scotsman who is our current Prime Minister is pretty strong, but greed is what drives a voter. As Conservatives, we all want to see the government cut wasteful spending, as long as it doesn't hurt me.

  26. 1. No, I AM a Christian. I don't consider you to be one but since I'm Christian I don't judge right ? ? (Believing in divine precepts while ignoring the basic Philosophy of Jesus is like saying you love McDonalds but hate hamburgers. I spent a lot of time studying theology and divinity though so I'm coming from a different angle. Again, I'm not judging: fill your boots with miracles, speaking in tongues etc.)

  27. The reporters gathered were told this prior to the statement. Did you not know that part of the story? The reporter did his job…. cajoled him into answering media questions, even if it was a very limited amount. Maybe with more cajoling, PP will answer a few more next time? https://www.nationalobserver.com/2022/09/15/opinion/who-calls-press-conference-then-tells-reporters-no-questions-poilievre Before the news conference started, reporters had been told there would be no questions, but Akin asked questions anyway, shouting them out from the floor, drowning out Poilievre’s statement. At first, Poilievre tried to brush it off as a joke, saying a “liberal heckler” must have shown up. Then he pushed back saying he’d never heard Akin interrupt the prime minister this way. Finally, Poilievre capitulated under pressure and agreed he’d allow two questions from the media. He then restarted his speech without further interruption.
    1 point
  28. Then the interruptions worked? PP was cajoled and guilted into actually taking a couple questions. If this is what the media has to do to actually have him take questions after his canned statements, then maybe this needs to happen more often.

Her point is that the photo in the post seemed to indicate that there was a huge celebration in the conservative party because a lesbian got an appointment, but it was just at her wedding. My personal take on that photo is: OMG she's the one wearing white - we got the small spoon. Why couldn't we have gotten the one who wears the plastic in the family? Betsy isn't woke, she's just decent. Woke is an insult.

  33. Before starting, Mr. Poillievre announced he would not be answering any questions. Like the debate, he is scared he will have to actually add some subtance to the empty slogans he has been relying on. It is ironic that he would accuse somebody (anybody) od being a liberal. Mr. Pollievre is a clone of Justin Trudeau. He is all show and no substance. 1. He says he will cut taxes. How? Is he planning to run a larger deficit like Prime Minister Harper did? 2. He complains it takes too long to get a passport. Sure. Everybody knows that including the government. But how will he fix it. Maybe he can sell them to anyone at a bitcoin vending machine. James Earl Ray??? There is a reason it is taking too long. 3. Unaffordable housing. The places people want to live have run out of room. There are more people than housing, and no place to put new homes, unless you want a three hour commute to work. 4. He is going to solve the problem of gifting Alberta's oil to China. Alberta wants to run pipelines through BC and Quebec. Those two provinces don't want it. Alberta gets the money and Quebec and BC get the bills ($ billions) to clean up the spills. He ignores the fact that the oil also belongs to millions of Albertans who haven't been born yet. 5. He says he will fire the Governor of the Bank of Canada. Now, what does he suppose the reation in the international financial world would be if Canada politicizes the BoC? Add that to the adoption of crypto-currency? How do you spell economic collapse? Like his twin, Justin, Pierre is all slogans and will do exactly what the Liberal government is doing now. Why? Because any capable minister will take the advice to the professional civil service. The government has advisors who have a lot more experience than Mr. Pollievre. Like Prime Minister Trudeau, if Mr. Poillievre becomes Prime Minister, he will listen to the professionals who know what they are talking about. I believe he will. He is a smart guy. Nice hair, too. I

  37. West has no good points. We should really just let this criticism wither on the vine and replace it with a real discussion. For one thing: this was proposed in Canada by an establishment conservative High Segal (I doubt many here realize that) as a way to reduce the bureaucracy. It was embraced by the left most recently, after CERB was doled out. But the details are not of interest to anyone it seems, such as: -universality -amount of the benefit -program cuts -tracking If you care about criticizing UBI, have a smart discussion or get out of the way. Sometimes in life you have to shut up...

  38. JT’s actions speak louder than his phoney rhetoric. Remember that little issue with the engineering firm and the Justice Minister? Those two female MP’s certainly didn’t benefit from his brand of “feminism.”

  41. There ya have it. You don't even know why they were chosen, you're just assuming the worst and blathering about it. Personally I have no clue how good his picks are, but Lantsman at least had the intestinal fortitude to side with the Freedom Convoy, which is a huge plus for her, and she supported PP for leader, so she was definitely a leading contender. I don't know a lot about Uppal. Whatever. Good for him. We'll know what he's all about soon enough, and he's obviously a far better human than McKenna, Freeland et al. Obviously some of the conservatives backed other leaders, and a lot of them were lacking in the courage necessary for top cabinet positions.

  42. No I'm not. You're ignoring/sugar-coating the fact so many of Poilievre's followers equate over-reach with fascism and Trudeau with Hitler. That's concerning given how much Canadian treasure and blood was spilled fighting Nazis and Hitler. How much effort will be expended denazifying Canada and what will Canadian denazification look like? If Poilievre wants to dismiss these followers as idiots fine, he should do so and put the issue to bed but if he wants to sugar coat and pretend this paranoia is a nothing burger then he should do that too. He should simply be honest about the fairly widespread paranoia that exists and acknowledge it.

  44. What a bunch of crap. After that piece of crap Donald Trump, don’t tell us who started insulting and who started a “war.” That dumbass said that windmills cause cancer, and your people elected him leader of the free world. “Liberals want to destroy America”. We hear that stupidity all the time. Why? Because the mega-rich got Fox News to be their mouthpiece and con the poor into thinking that helping the rich would help the poor. And the result is the greatest gap between rich and poor in our nation’s history, massive, global environmental destruction that’s baking the South, ravaging Florida with tornados and the West with wildfires, outsourcing of millions of jobs to China, destruction of nearly every labor union, erosion of public education so severely that students graduate with debt equal to the cost of a house, and a fascist leader who insulted every person he meets and tried to overthrow the government. You say liberalism is a failure? We had liberalism. We had FDR, and he lead us to victory in WW II in just four years. Compared to that idiot Texan LBJ, Nixon and Bush II, FDR knew how to fight and win a war. And he lead us out of depression, built nationwide infrastructure, created worker’s retirement, and a lasting legacy of middle class prosperity. Liberalism is proven to work, and what destroyed it in America was the racism of Southern Democrats, who couldn’t stand the fact that the Federal government brought an end to Jim Crow. That’s why the South switched Republican and why they stay that way.

  45. Perhaps you can point out what Liberal policy or action has kept our inflation rate as low as you claim it is. Or is it just Justins luck we scored where we did. or like everything else is it an accounting trick. And are you really going to hang your vote for the liberals on that point alone? perhaps you can give a small list of things they have done, in the last 8 years that will guarantee your vote or change mine ? Do you really think that continued excess spending is good for the country.
