I wanted to start this thread to have (hopefully) a more sober discussions about what's happening with Trudeau's latest steps and not have it devolve into nonsense. I came across this article today and I think it makes a fair point. Whether you're for or against the Trucker's Protest, I think the Emergencies Act raises a few eyebrows. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-by-invoking-the-emergencies-act-the-feds-go-from-no-action-to-the/ "The federal government’s decision to go from virtually no action to the nuclear option to tackle the convoys that have paralyzed downtown Ottawa and seized control of select border crossings to the United States should come with an explanation. That is not an opinion. The Emergencies Act states that “a declaration of a public order emergency shall specify concisely the state of affairs constituting the emergency,” though no written explanation was produced Monday, when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced he was invoking the act for the first time since its creation in 1988, even though provisions under the act came into force immediately." The article goes on to explain how law enforcement did next to nothing about the protestors for weeks and enforced not even basic/obvious bylaw violations, but then all of the sudden the government elects to go for the most extreme tools at its disposal without properly explaining the reasoning behind it. Up until recently the complaints about freedom and liberty were, as far as I'm concerned, just a lot of silliness. With the Emergency Act invoked, Trudeau offers at least some credibility to those complaints and sets a bad precedent. Do I think Trudeau's seizing power and that this is the death of democracy in Canada? Not for a second. I do, however, think he's handling things extremely poorly and we need an explanation forwhy this particular protest couldn't be handled in the same way as others like the G20.4 points

Let me guess...Canada is still officially protesting against human rights violations in China...even during the Winter Olympics. ...can't make this stuff up !4 points

Indeed...the government response to protests against tyranny is now even more tyranny. This is not what democracy looks like. The Trudeaus always did admire Castro...Justin should start wearing green fatigues.4 points

Really? You think he'd ever resign? I certainly don't. The reason these protests are even happening is because truckers knew that Trudeau was so narcissistic and pig headed that he would stick to his decision to punish the unvaccinated for as long as possible, regardless of what the science is saying. There needed to be push back. Many other countries were dropping mandates. Then provinces started to drop mandates. But the Libs with support of the NDP wouldn't even allow for a plan to end them. Seriously, that plan could have said the mandates will end in a year but that wasn't good enough for ol' JT. He continues to double down on his hatred for the unvaccinated and for that reason I don't see him ever relinquishing power as Covid will never end in his mind.2 points
-
I wasn't surprised to see the Ottawa police chief resign amidst all this. It would be interesting to get a proper explanation on why they sat on their hands and did basically did nothing for weeks. My impression at first was they figured they didn't have the resources to do it properly/safely, but that explanation fails when the protests continue past the first week.2 points

Agenda 2030.. this is just the start. By then everything will be digital from your vehicles to the heat in your home to your bank account. This happens again where peaceful people drive across the country to make their voices heard? Well the government will stop that somewhere on the highway by freezing your vehicle.2 points

I don't know why he's so hesitant to answer such a simple question. It's easy enough to find: https://tineye.com/search/3534b56edf78b9508bd0a5a684f83da169959b5e?sort=score&order=desc&page=1 " the Toronto G20 summit in June, 2010"2 points

You are misinformed. By the media. The truth is - the video of the cops hugging the protesters. The truth is - the cops got a call, a tip, from someone saying they were thinking of doing something and had guns. The guns were taken from a private home in the area. Stop reading MSM. They are liars.2 points

I hear alot of people making a big deal about old ladies in Texas sending the trucker convoy some money. I would submit to you that it's in the world's interest that Canada is a free nation. Many countries look to Canada to lead the way on Civil rights issues and peace keeping missions and being a voice for human rights. When our nation strips away basic human rights such as having fair access to services because of a private medical decision, then Canadians have an obligation to clean up the filth in our own back yard. As other nations look to Canada to lead the way on personal freedoms, I can see why people would donate to a cause that's promoting and upholding human rights for all.1 point

I agree 100 %, our leadership think that these increases are the magic numbers that will solve all our problems.., but this just increases the load else where, like housing , jobs etc...what we need is major investments in those areas, like housing , education, job training, infra structure... there never is a simple solution, so why are so many convinced that this is the way to go?1 point

And if you don't - you can protest and even shut down the capital for a significant amount of time. This method is messy but those of us who are actual patriots believe in it.1 point

He even said that BEFORE Trudeau unleashed the martial law option here, and started using anti-terrorism laws against peaceful protesters. Martial Law"? From CBC: According to Trudeau's comment, it appears that the ability to use the military under this section of the emergencies act is a possibility. Otherwise he would have said that it's not an option without enacting some other measure.1 point

If you don't believe me, listen to the media, listen to Jagmeet Singh, the leader of the NDP, listen to what the government is saying. Singh says this is clearly an insurrection. Their clearly stated goal is to have an unelected group replace the democratically-elected government. They are using harassment of citizens, attacking workers, attacking people and using children as shields.1 point

This is what happens when government actively undermines national pride and makes Canada a dirty word. Though we know that Canada may have the least oppressive history of any developed country, all of Canada’s prior achievements are painted with the brush of racism and colonialism. We once had faith-based values underpinning mainstream values. Now crucifixes are colonial and the religion of race identity politics drives policy. It’s vapid, Marxist-Nihilist crap, but if you want to build a post-national totalitarian state where history is rewritten or simply banned and people can be controlled, this is the playbook. We’re witnessing a Maoist cultural revolution under the moniker of equity. It’s ultimately about the state deciding what people deserve and how they should live. Opposition to the state is labeled racist-extremist. Freedom is called radical and must be banned. Who thought government could attempt this in benign Canada? Yet here we are: digital vaccine passports, Emergency Measures, and no attempt by government to explain when draconian “public health” mandates will be lifted. It’s left wing dictatorship, a simulacrum of China. Americans see it more clearly than we do because it’s been a slow moving removal of our constitutional rights to which we’ve become accustomed.1 point

Do you not think Pfizer and Moderna are influencing our public health policy through lobbying? A bit more concerned about that than some old granny in the US buying a trucker food. How so? Canadians fund foreign protests all the time ?. How many Canadians do you think sent money to fund BLM protests?1 point

dude, over 2/3 of the country supports their cause. If you ask them that there is no way out unless you march to JT's house, I believe most of them will support it. It is true because provinces start to drop their c19 policies like there is no tmw. They can read the room.1 point

Anyone can provide financial support to any protest anywhere. Is this China? Ever see the “bonds for Israel” signs on lawns in Forest Hill? What do you think the Canadian aid for Ukraine is? I’m glad Americans donated to the Freedom Convoy and the fact that the Canadian government is trying to freeze the assets illustrates continued attempts at fascist control.1 point

When ruling elites have fully detached themselves from the reality of the country (like with $185K plus allowances plus automatic annual rise), there's only so much of a human language they still understand or care too. That could be one of the words they could notice.1 point

Do you honestly think I know exactly how many truckers are and were involved in all the various protests around Canada? If you ever took a math class past grade 9 you'd know what 'significant digits' are. If I said 50,239 and there were only 41,000 then you could rightly get pissy. I said 50K, and if there are only 41,253 that's close enough. It doesn't matter if there were 64K, or if there were only 32,000. It's not germane to my point at all. Point stands: In an ideal world the PM of a western nation would be classier and tell less lies than 50,000 truckers.1 point
-
History will remember that our PM was a divisive liar, demagogue, and slanderer, and that our Freedom Convoy was a mix of Canadians from every race, colour and creed, all celebrating together and standing up for our most essential freedoms. In an ideal world the PM of a western nation would be classier and tell less lies than 50,000 truckers.1 point

Sorry, that was WastCanMan. Prime Minister Trudeau will still be in office to lead the grits into the next election. Unless the CPC come up with a really good leader, (and I don't see anyone of merit putting their name forward), or something dramatic happens, he will likely win. The CPC might have won last fall if all these anti-Trudeau people had got off their asses and actually went out and campaigned for the CPC instead of grousing and whining. That would make Mr. Singh Leader of the Official Opposition and the CPC somewhere back in the corner with the Greens, and Mr. Trudeau would have his majority. The Progressive Conservative party never formed a governmnet without a Red Tory as leader. Diefenbaker, Clark (the only man who ever beat a Trudeau), and Mulroney.1 point

I have a bit of experience in medical, so I read the pages. Also understood most of it. Then I read the analyses by both Pfizer-paid doctors and scientists and those who had issues with the trials. I was rather pleased with myself that the instances of fraud were also picked up on by other independent doctors and scientists. There's a reason why Pfizer wanted them hidden for 55 years.1 point

The person themselves might not need protection, but you remember we live in a collective society which means we need to protect each other and not be spreading it around. That's what vaccination helps to do. Granted it's not 100% effective, but it reduces the chances of spread and reduces the number of people filling up hospitals. That's why as many people as possible need to be vaccinated to beat this thing.1 point
-
I’m fully vaccinated but I value people’s right to make decisions about their health. Be careful what you wish for because the criteria for assisted suicide keeps getting loosened. Committees and family members can apply pressure to vulnerable elderly citizens. Once you’re deemed unfit to make healthcare decisions for yourself, much can happen that’s out of your control. I believe very strongly in the sanctity of the person. Giving up too much control to the state is dangerous for too many reasons to list.1 point

And we're tired of your sucky "sky is falling" hyperbolic, hysterical nonsense that our democracy is going going gone because you have to wear a f*cking mask for a couple of years. You don't even have to get a vaccine - you just have to accept the consequences, whether it's getting sick or losing your job. The rest of us have a right to feel safe in our country and not be held hostage in our homes by the special snowflakes that make up about 10% of the population.1 point
