  1. Don't sugar-coat it Taxme, tell us how you really feel. 😉 It may be time to renew my membership for the coming CPC leadership race to replace Mr. Poilievre. I feel sorry for the guy but he is the author of his own destruction. He just refuses to listen to advice.

  3. Bad news for Poilievre, to state the obvious. He seems unable to adapt to the new conditions that have followed the arrival of asteroid Trump.

  4. Well, we elect Members of Parliament to act in the best interests of the constituency, not a political party. This is taken more in the breech than in the observance, so when an MP does act in what they deem to be in the interests of their constituents, the partisans get their panties in a twist.

  5. Perhaps, but as I said we rarely get a full view of the circumstances or situation. Since this is only the latest of 3 recent MP's who've crossed the floor or resigned in the last month or so, it's worth speculating whether there may be problems within the Party (or its leadership). Regardless of the optics, anything that gives individual MPs more agency and weakens the consolidation of party power within the leadership is helpful in its own way.

  8. Ireland appears to be a leader in opposing Israel. I was just curious why that is. Ireland is far from Israel and is on it's own island except for Northland Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom. So what is their reason for being so anti-Israel? " Ireland has been attacking Israel disproportionally since the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre. Recently, after Israel was readmitted, Ireland announced it would not participate in the 2026 annual Eurovision Song Contest as a protest against Israel’s participation. Its announcement came in concert with similar declarations from Spain, Slovenia, Iceland, and of course, the Netherlands. To all of them, I say good riddance. If you have a problem with Israel, but not so much with Hamas killers and rapists, Eurovision is not the right forum for you. If you prefer standing with a free and democratic state that is defending itself against terrorists who follow the teachings of the Muslim Brotherhood, and singing alongside free nations like Israel that celebrate co-existence and venerate women’s and gay rights, then Eurovision is for you. The Irish should be aligned with the Jewish people, given their mutual connection to their homeland. Instead, Ireland has been chasing down Israel relentlessly. Preceding Ireland’s Eurovision boycott, Dublin city council attempted to vote on renaming Herzog Park, named after former Israeli president Chaim Herzog — a slap in the face to his son, Isaac Herzog, Israel’s current president. The attempted erasure of Jewish life in Ireland sparked an international outcry prompting the withdrawal of the proposal. Ireland’s Prime Minister Michael Martin opposed the idea, calling it “divisive and wrong.” Given the Herzog family’s legacy in Ireland, the country’s Chief Rabbi, Yoni Wieder, said that removing Herzog’s name would be “a shameful erasure of a central part of Irish Jewish history.” unquote Avi Benlolo: Ireland's Eurovision boycott just the latest attack on Israel

  9. Another Conservative crosses the floor, bringing Liberals 1 MP shy of majority Ontario MP Michael Ma announced Thursday that he is leaving the Conservative caucus and joining the Liberals. The MP said in a statement that he made the decision after listening to his constituents in the riding of Markham-Unionville in the Greater Toronto Area. "This is a time for unity and decisive action for Canada's future," he wrote. "In that spirit, I have concluded that Prime Minister Mark Carney is offering the steady, practical approach we need to deliver on the priorities I hear every day while door-knocking in Markham-Unionville." Ma's move comes just a few weeks after former Conservative Chris d'Entremont also left the Conservatives to join the government benches. The new addition to the Liberal caucus means Carney is one seat away from a majority government. Rumours swirled in the days following d'Entremont's defection that more Conservatives would follow the Nova Scotia MP — but none had switched sides until Ma. … https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/mp-crosses-floor-to-liberals-9.7012767

  11. .agree.......... suppose the so-called Palestinians ran an effective propaganda campaign against Israel in general and the IDF in particular. Ireland was heavily involved with UNIFIL in the late '70's - and there was friction between the two countries at that time. I think when ur focusing on the 'Palestinians' and recently Gaza tho you need to focus more broadly - ie, what are Irelands 'wants' regionally (ME) to be part of a quid pro quo supporting the Palestinians at least in terms of rhetoric. Hacks are basically political whores - esp the leaders who have the power to negotiate.

  12. No, I'm saying results are more important than intent, since intent can only be inferred. "Sorry, I didn't MEAN to kill you" doesn't fly. Intent matters, but results are what we all have to live with. And I seriously doubt their intentions were good when they flood the country with immigrants with zero thought to housing, the economy, healthcare, the educational system, etc. I assume you are arguing that they are just incredibly incompetent. Why would you support utter incompetence just because you, personally, think they "meant well"? How stupid are you? (Rhetorical question, we can all see how stupid you are.)

  13. In our system no MP’s allegiance to a party is absolute, nor should it be. Floor crossings are a verdict of sorts on a party and its leader.
    2 points
  14. Yeah the idea that floor crossing is somehow anti democratic demonstrates a profound misunderstanding of our system of government. That being said, I do think that floor crossing can sometimes be questionable and opportunistic. The devil is in the details, to which we are often not privy. A floor crossing in a swing riding where both parties are competitive feels a lot different than floor crossing in an entrenched riding where the candidate would never have won against the previous riding party.

  17. If the Liberals attain a majority then Carney needs to call another election ASAP. If these crossing MP's had any ethics they would sit as independents if they didn't like their party. They're directly stifling the will of the people. PP needs to resign as leader. He's a Republican in disguise and needs to go away. His party is busy obstructing the House of Commons and Parliamentary committees like the GOP does in the US. This needs to stop. And he's a complete fool if he thinks Canadians are ever going to vote for this. Or good sense.

  18. That may be true on a particular policy right now but the spectrum of possible policies between the two parties is quite different. At the moment things are looking good for them. However, we live in very uncertain times. Trump is a strategic threat to our country. Hostility to him is entirely reasonable for Canadians. In fact I’m suspicious of any Canadian who still sings his praises. And his record of corruption already makes anything in Canada look trivial by comparison.

  19. Only if he wants to be elected PM. This is demonstrably not better for the economy.

  20. This is a conundrum for the Conservatives. I personally think their current policies would be better for Canada overall, as in more pipelines, much lower immigration, tougher sentencing for criminals, reduce wasteful foreign aid etc. I thought Erin O'Toole was more of a red-tory and he never gained any traction. Why vote for red tories instead of Liberals if the policies are basically the same. I do concede that the federal Liberals are virtually unbeatable. They've had more than their fair share of political scandals and a pretty poor record since 2015. And yet, it doesn't seem to matter to most Canadians who are more consumed by their hatred of Donald Trump and PP's personality than they are about the actual state of the country.

  22. That honestly sounds like something Britain would do. I stopped going to the US in 2014, and didn't start again until 2017, then couldn't go during covid, started going again in summer 2021, then mostly stopped this year. Honestly, that graph that you showed with all the sharp peaks and valleys looks about right from my POV.

  24. How so? because they are getting vocal? Did you know that between 1882 and 1968, around 4.7 thousand people were lynched in the USA? About 3.5 thousand of those victims were Black, and the second biggest group was Mexican. Do you know the story of Emmet Till - a 14-year-old boy lynched in 1955 after being accused of offending a white woman? The racism runs deep and profound. Why is the rate of fatal police shootings for Black people 6.1/million people, compared to 2.4/million people for Whites? Did you know that a rite of passage for young Black men is to have "the talk" with their parents about how to behave if they are stopped at traffic stops so as to avoid getting targeted because of the colour of their skin? Wow, you really feel threatened by me, don't you?

  28. In his statement, Ma said "Ma said, “After listening carefully to the people of Markham–Unionville in recent weeks and reflecting with my family on the direction of our country, I have informed the Speaker and the Leader of the Opposition that I will be joining Prime Minister Mark Carney in the government caucus.” Seems he made the right decision and his constituents agreed so, no usupring the will of the people at all. It goes on: "A senior Conservative strategist, who was granted anonymity to discuss internal party matters, told Global News that Ma’s departure is another blow to Poilievre’s leadership as the party’s grassroots prepares to meet in Calgary next month. The source went so far as to suggest the Conservative leader should take his own walk in the snow over the holiday break, referencing the phrase that former prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau used when announcing how he came to his own decision to resign as prime minister decades ago. “MPs aren’t leaving because they’ve suddenly become Liberals. They’re leaving because Pierre has made the Conservative tent uninhabitable,” the source said. “Hopefully he uses the Christmas break to realize that the only departure that will actually stop the bleeding is his own.”"

  30. Perhaps Mr Ma's reasons are cumulative??? Perhaps he sees PP's decline in popularity and thereby making the party ineffective is something he can no longer tolerate? Mr Polievere could not even be gracious to Mr Ma. That seems to be the mindset of the party...or is it only the leader?

  32. Private property is under attack by the BC NDP and FNs. The only way to protect the people who own property is to amend the Canadian Constitution. If not, things for property owners in BC and possibly Canada will get worse. The reason is because FN's rights are recognized but property owner's rights are not enshrined in the Constitution. That needs to change soon. The Free Press said: quote What if someone told you that your home really belongs to the people who lived there 150 years ago? It’s happening in Canada. After an 11-year legal battle and a 513-day trial that is the longest in Canadian history, a judge ruled in August that the indigenous Cowichan Nation holds “Aboriginal title” over 800 acres of land—including a swath along Road No. 6 that includes Batth’s house and fields. The decision was a seismic shift in Canadian property law, declaring for the first time that indigenous land rights are greater than the rights held by private owners like Batth. It seemed unimaginable, but it was real. Tom Isaac, a well-known expert in indigenous law who advises businesses and governments, said that the judge’s ruling “erased 99 percent of the words” on property titles held by the current owners in the black zone. “It makes us the only jurisdiction in the Western Hemisphere where a supposedly guaranteed and indefeasible land title is defeasible.” He added, “If that isn’t radical, if that isn’t shocking, I don’t know what else is.” unquote

  33. It turns out Vemezuela was using ghost tankers to run oil to and from Cuba. While the U.S. is blowing up small vessels in the Caribbean, accusing Venezuela of using them to send drugs to the U.S., a new report affirms that the government of Nicolás Maduro is using a clandestine network of oil tankers to bypass U.S. sanctions and maintain crude shipments to Cuba. But this is not just about Venezuela. This tanker was being used by bad actors all over the world, including Iran: Tanker was sanctioned by Treasury 3 years ago The Skipper was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department in 2022 for its alleged role in an oil smuggling network that helped fund the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and Hezbollah, a Lebanese militant group backed by Iran. The ship — known as Adisa in 2022 — is among the vessels controlled by sanctioned Russian oil magnate Viktor Artemov, the Treasury said in a statement. At the time, the Treasury said Artemov transported Iranian oil using an expansive network of ships that were often registered in obscure ways with the intention of skirting U.S. restrictions on Iranian petroleum exports. Even the Biden admin considered this tanker a danger to the US and the world. The seizure hurts Iran, Venezuela and Russia.

  34. Another WEF pro Zionist globalist communist traitor to Canada. This floor crossing nonsense needs to end. This traitor was elected to represent the people in his community. The conservative party is full of lieberals wearing conservative clothing. This is why Canada should not exist any longer. Canada is full of lieberal globalists traitor communists who despise Canada. I can only hope that one day soon Alberta separates from communist Canada. Canada has become nothing more but a woke, broke and soon to be bankrupt 3rd world multicultural hell hole of a communist country. Prove me wrong, if you can? I will bet that no one here can, even you eyeball? If you can, go make your day!!

  35. Then you need to get out more because it isn't a common sentiment in Canada and spewing that nonsense no longer resonates with your target audience. For the most part, that audience was concerned about things like security, demographic concentrations, integration, and ensuring that sufficient infrastructure and resources were available to accommodate any influx. Those concerns were repeated over and over again... you failed to listen, you screamed racist instead and created a mess that will take the best part of a decade to unfuc% if we get started on it today (and we won't). As it stands now, sensible people don't care about your snide references to racism; they have eyes to see, ears to hear and they recognize the source of the problem in need of fixing... that would be things like infrastructure, intake, and to a lesser extent (due to lack of relevancy) the insults from people like you and Herb. I think you'll soon discover that direct (or oblique) digs about racism aimed at people with legitimate concerns will get you a "stick it up you a$$" response. Let me be the first to offer that invitation here and suggest that the orientation of insertion should be sideways.

  36. This sounds like typical garden variety gas-lit nonsense. So what do you think of Trump's plan to examine five years worth of people's social media posts to see if they've badmouthed him or America? Too little too late?

  37. Why? My goal is saving western civilization from extinction. I think that's a worthy and noble goal. Some immigration is no threat to that. If you put zero value on your own culture, traditions, ethnicity etc that's your prerogative. What would you say to an indigenous tribe in Canada trying to save itself, it's culture, it's people, from literal extinction? "Oh well. We're all earthlings. Get over it". It's not racist for them to try to conserve their culture, traditions etc, so why is it for us?

Still less biased than the CBC And if you follow along you find out this was based on testimony that was given at a committee hearing. Unless you're now going to argue that the federal government is biased in favor of the conservatives So if you're done looking stupid, was there anything you wanted to actually add to this or....

  42. We are in a national emergency because of Carney and his other liberal friends. And he's not doing anything much different than what Justin Trudeau did. He pretends to on the surface but the reality is he's all but guaranteed no pipelines will be built and no projects that weren't already underway have been announced. He has utterly failed in trade with the united states, he's completely abandoned interprovincial trade issues, he hasn't delivered on any trade agreements with any other nations, and he's borrowing about $100 billion dollars. 10 years ago our entire debt Accumulated over 150 years was about 500 billion and this guy's going to add 100 in the next year alone. He's even worse than Trudeau The liberals aren't going to cross the floor, they want their pensions and their money. Is nibs quit cabinet in protest but that's about the closest you're going to get. They're all going to want to stay in government as long as they can, the money is massive and the powers real
