Yeah, the billionaire who inherited $400 is all in it for the little guy, which is why he told billionaires to give him money, because he would cut their taxes. But the woman who grew up in Oakland and the school teacher/football coach/Guardsman are only in it to benefit millionaires.2 points

OK lefties, here's how Kamala's price-fixing backfires: When you tell people: "You have to sell your 'whatevers' for $4.00 each", and suppliers can't make them for less than $5.00, they say: "I'm not gonna do all this work just to pay people $1 to buy my whatevers", and they stop making them. Invariably, as the supply of "whatevers" diminishes, the cost of them is driven up by the law of 'supply and demand' (1. look that up, 2. it's not racist) Kamala can tell people whatever she wants, even with the power of executive order, but she's just trying to reinvent the round peg for the square hole. At the end of the day, if there are only 2M pounds of bacon, and 50M people want a pound of bacon, the bacon will either: be sold to the highest bidders at way more than $5 each or there will be a bacon line and only the first 1.95M people will get bacon (Kamala's friends are guaranteed to get bacon), everyone else will be S-O-L. There's no such thing as 'bacon lines' though, Kamala will have bread lineups if she's left to her own devices. It will just be another case of Kamala and Walz having to learn from their costly mistakes.2 points

it's a very viable strategy as Bonaparte said : "never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake" Trump's first mistake being to debate Biden before Biden had the nomination taking Biden out early has backfired, since Trump was going to defeat Biden with ease the second mistake is going off message to call Harris names because that's not landing blows in terms of swing voters anybody who is a swing voter at this juncture, is not really buying that so long as Trump is not landing any blows, there's no need for Harris to react2 points

Oddly enough, the DNC was last in Chicago in 1968. LBJ, the incumbent, had announced that he was not running so the convention was to determine the democrat candidate. Somewhat similar to the present circumstances, which I find fascinating. Wikipedia describes some of the events as follows: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Democratic_National_Convention Here's some coverage of preparations being made for next week, including fencing and barricades. The powers that be for this event seem to be preparing for the worst, just in case. Fences and barricades are going up around the facility that is hosting the event. Key note speakers include Joe Biden himself, Michelle and Barry Obama as well as Bill and Hilary. At least 6 protests are planned, from various activist and extremist groups. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/08/18/dnc-protests-gaza-kamala-harris-00174497 This strikes me as a little bit odd. Kamala has been moving up in the polls and the tent that is the Democrat movement is much closer to the causes of these activists than any other option. Why protest before the election? Why not wait and see if they win and can actually do something for your extremist group and cause? What benefit can a protest of over 10,000 people produce? Anyway, I think the DNC could be very notable this year and worth following along this week. It will be interesting to see what the Media covers, and what they ignore.1 point

It's not a lie to say that Kamala started her political by blowing a guy who gave her her first two political appointments. It's not a lie to say that Kamala and Walz are afraid to talk to the media. It's not a lie to say that Kamala's running mate is a dunce who has to learn the most basic lessons of all from being drastically wrong, like when he was completely wasted and got caught driving 100mph, or when he decided to let rioters burn his state for a while before he did anything about it. Honestly, who sits around smelling tire fires while his cities burn instead of just making a phone call? Who could possibly be some dumb that they'd have to learn by getting that wrong the first time? It's not a lie to say that Walz was scummy enough to present himself as a combat veteran when he isn't. It's not a lie to say that Walz isn't man enough to personally apologize for things like his own drunk driving, or lying about his combat veteran status. It's not a lie to say that when Walz's campaign apologizes for his lying and crimes, their apologies are insincere and contain more lies. Buddy, the difference between me and you is that I don't lie because I don't have to, telling the truth serves me just fine. I just tell the truth and watch you guys squirm.1 point

FYI what she said wasn't "brilliant", it was stupid. When you get more people into home ownership within a community you don't increase the tax base at all. Not even by 1%. In fact, In Canada, you DECREASE the tax base. Someone owned that house before she gave her DEI constituents free money to buy it, so they were paying taxes on it anyways... In that instance, net increase to the tax base = $0.00 If it was an investor that owned it, they usually pay more taxes than people who use it as a primary residence. That's 100% certain where I live. In BC we get a "Homeowner's Grant" from the provincial gov't if our home is a primary residence. If you're a senior, or a vet, you get an even bigger tax break. IE, the gov't gets less tax revenue when it's an owner living in a house, not more. I can't speak for every state in the US, but if a senior citizen who was also a veteran (Walz: you'll notice that they don't say 'combat veteran', but only combat vets qualify for this) owned in this house (in BC), and used it as a primary residence, the home owner save more than $1,000 per year in property taxes compared to an investor. That means "lower tax base". It doesn't make a lick of difference if the tenant here is a senior and a veteran, the investor would still pay the full tax rate. If we had a Kamala here, and she gave away enough tax dollars to get 1,000 homes out of the hands of investors and into the hands of home-owners, that would cost our gov't $1,000,000 per year in tax revenue. So not only would taxpayers be footing the bill for "select citizens" to get a new home, the tax base would decrease dramatically. Now, to be fair, the decrease in taxes collected due to all the homeowner grants would be partially (not fully) offset by the fact that property values would rise when all that free loot came on the market, but the overall tax base would still be down. And guess what happens when property values go up..... Rents increase. Even if you are just renting out a suite within your own home, if you pay more for the huse, you need to collect more money from your tenants. As usual, Kamala's plan is just layers of stupid on top of stupid. Her plan would help to get American citizens into the door, but banks would be the ones to really profit from the free loot and the increased cost of houses.1 point

Biden is still the sitting President. Well, maybe I guess. He certainly isn't fit to be and it is a scandal the media is not demanding to know how the man unfit to run for President is somehow still fit to be President. I digress... Harris is his VP, so... what are her thoughts on this? Oh, gee, I guess she doesn't take questions... Like, for real, your big take here is that this isn't a big deal because Biden is not running anymore? Really?1 point

I'm just explaining the political background here. And again, You have to make it about me. For some reason. You should think about other people. And yes, it's possible for costs to go up and prices to go up inordinately from those inputs. But you knew that I think. You just decided not to point it out I guess.1 point

"price gouging" is nothing but inflammatory propaganda. This concept involves the suppliers colluding to charge a price far above the market equilibrium price (very hard to prove) and the consumers have few, if any, options (again , hard to prove). hypothetically, for any price fixing scheme to work.. you have an overabundance of whatever... supply exceeds demand. But that is not the case and so its a waste of time to ponders its merits.1 point

OK... so, what do you think? We are both arm chair quarterbacks here with zero real information on what their operational plans are. So, what is more realistic here, that Ukraine is on some kind of Kamakazee mission here with no care or regard in the world for how it ends? Or, maybe they have plans and strategy... maybe that doesn't work out exactly as planned, because war is hell or maybe this does work as intended but with some costs... because war is hell. I trust that to them, this was worth it, as they are the ones doing it. What is your purpose and motivation here in criticizing it? You are playing at the angle that men are dying... well, is it just that you think Ukraine should have sent these men to die somewhere else on the war front instead? Because your criticisms are coming across as if *anything* Ukraine is doing is going to be a waste of men. Well, no, it isn't. The point of the question, is as I alluded to above, is that your criticism come across as if anything Ukraine does is a waste. Even now, I ask a fairly straightforward question about what you think... you come up with this and end up saying it is up to them. Well... so is pushing into Kursk too, but you have lots of opinions on that. I asked this because it seems you are angling at this entire war as hopeless. So, do you want them to surrender?1 point

wage & price controls is always the desperate measure that governments invoke in an inflation crisis this is what happened in Canada back in 1979 first Pierre Trudeau invoked wage & price controls Canadians at the time rightly recognized that it was lunacy so suddenly the Liberals lost the election and Joe Clark was Prime Minister then six months later the Conservatives flip flopped and invoked wage & price controls themselves at which point Joe Clark got fired and the Liberals were back in office although PET had dropped the wage & price controls policy in his comeback the only way to constrain inflation of the money supply is to remove money from the economy the central bank raises its interest rate, which is paying all the banks to remove money from the street and park it at the central bank hence how we ended up with 20% interest rates in 1981 but that incited the worst recession since the Great Depression so the politicians now could never run on that since the public wouldn't tolerate that kind of recession in this day & age the way things are now, 20% interest rates would incite civil unrest, you'd have riots in the streets the debt is too out of control now, public, private, household, commercial, it's a giant debt bubble the effects of raising interest rates to that level, with the dept now, would be catastrophic another Global Financial Crisis instead, what they do now is rejig the numbers in the CPI they remove energy, food & shelter from the equation, because that's where the inflation is then they can claim that the inflation rate is vastly lower than it actually ; "3%" so they then only raise the interest rate to 5% instead of 20% thing is tho, the inflation is still there, and people are seeing it in the prices of gas, food & housing but the government can claim that they've got inflation under control so they can then lower the rates again, since that's the only way they can keep propping up the debt now Harris is indeed America's Justin Trudeau, the Democrats & Liberals are clones of each other but in fairness, it's not like the Republicans have a solution to the problem either you let inflation burn, or you freeze in higher interest rates there's no pain free solution out of this inflationary debt trap which has been decades in the making tho wage & price controls is one of those loonie ideas which politicians invoke to get elected but then once in office would not likely follow through on because it would actually be financially dangerous, a threat to the Establishment rule because that sort command economy lunacy could pop the debt bubble, inciting deflation wages & prices falling is much more dangerous than wages & prices rising you can control the rising, but once it starts going in the opposite direction, there is no mechanism of control so it could become a deflationary spiral which they could not stop which is how you get to a depression and since it is a global debt bubble, 4 to 1 debt to productivity ratio, it would a global deflation which is how get to a Great Depression and the only way out of that was World War Two which they could get away with since they didn't have hydrogen bombs how you would fight your way out of a Great Depression now is not clear one does wonder how vacuous politicians like Harris or Justin Trudeau react to advice do they take it seriously ? Or are they so oblivious that they just ignore it ? it's like with Ronald Reagan and Pierre Trudeau, they were aware of the dangers they were worried, they were worried about financial catastrophe and World War III but electing Harris to be POTUS is like electing Justin Trudeau to be POTUS so I can see how things could spiral out of control, with an empty vessel like that running the world because if the White House actually tried to run a command economy, with wage & price controls that would cause chaos right out of the gate, kicking off with a stock market panic although if Harris really is going to pander to the lunatic Marxist wing of the Democrat party then a stock market panic is baked into that cake tho I expect she's just a corporatist shill like Obama so like Obama, she will just do whatever Wall Street tells her to do the Democrats are taking a page out of the Justin Trudeau playbook already where they try to blame inflation on the private sector as "price gouging" but only as political theatre, since imposing some sort of substantive penalties would quickly blow up in their faces the Democrats and the Liberals are literally identical now exact same talking points, exact same narrative, exact same policies the only difference is that America has a Congress which can stop the President whereas the Canadian Prime Minister is effectively a dictator1 point

Well Canadian system is not perfect but Fraser Institute is a known right wing propaganda think tank. For example while wait times have definitely increased Fraser Institute doesn’t want you to know that referrals for time sensitive treatments and serious conditions like cancer treatments have much much shorter wait time than non- urgent referrals for things like cataract surgery or knee replacements And that there is no wait time for preventative care like family doctors or emergency care like when you’re hit by a car. Meanwhile the wait times for Americans who can’t afford healthcare is the rest of their lives The stats are in: Canadians have better outcomes than Americans for most medically preventable fatalities In general, in Canada illnesses are identified sooner, treated sooner and Canadians have better recovery rates and fewer post-procedure fatalities. And that’s reflected in better overall population statistics like infant mortality, childbirth mortality rate1 point

Its' hard to compare the two systems apples for apples, for the reasons you just mentioned and more. Unlike the us we have both federal and provincial health care money and it isn't even the same percent year to year, we have a plethora of taxes they don't (we even have tax on tax). Sometimes a better way to come at it is total expenditure per capita. In canada we spend about 8740 bucks per person per year in health care Per capita health expenditure Canada 1975-20233 | Statista In the states its more, a bout $13,493 per person. Whether you pay that from taxes or directly - there you go. But - they get MUCH faster service, more access to more operations, and wider coverage. THey also have enough doctors and nurses. However - even THAT comparison is not fair because the us number includes all drugs, our canadian number includes SOME drugs and medicines but not all by ANY stretch. There are tonnes of drugs people take long term that they pay for themselves or are paid for by private plans and that's not included in that figure. That's about another 1500 bucks per person on average. So even there it starts to get hard to do a straight up comparison. There are other factors as well1 point

I don't know, but it's not uncommon and it's not even exclusive to America. It's not even entirely exclusive to the left. Basically the prevailing theory is that After she's elected she can say she never made any promise to do anything for them. If she is forced to commit right now to make them happy and keep them quiet that she can be held to account for that later on. But if she's not willing to make that commitment then she's not really going to do anything for them anyway .It has the potential to be a big problem for her at the convention. They absolutely need this convention to go well, she has got to be at least six or seven points ahead of trump heading into the fall. Unless by some miracle the debate goes a hell of a lot better than it's likely to she probably won't have much of a chance to lift people's opinions of her between now and november. God knows if she actually appears in public and answers questions she's going to get slaughtered. So she has to have that lead to count on1 point

People have been given vaccines dating back a century. When you were a child, chances are you were vaccinated from smallpox, measles, and other diseases that increased the infant mortality rate. However, now that some internet "doctors" are convincing people to not get vaccinated, falsely claiming it causes Autism, among other things, measles (which was thought to be eradicated in 2000), has come back in parts of the US, and is killing children again. But hey, the parents are saying it's a small price to pay, for their "rights."1 point
