What an extortionate scam carbon taxes are. Destroy businesses and living standards without making a significant dent in emissions. Only a brainwashed disempowered population would accept this. Well the writing is on the wall for Canada. Why would any major investors take on our regulations and taxes? Why come here when you can go elsewhere? Of course the Liberals try to mask the tepid growth and falling living standards with mass immigration that increases inflation and emissions. How can anyone with a brain take this government seriously? The desperate will continue to come to Canada because they’re desperate. Those with the means to leave and live in a jurisdiction with higher living standards will do so, and the vicious circle will continue. Poilievre, if the conservative-fearing brainwashed public have the good sense to vote for him, will need a majority government and the stamina of a marathon champion to undo the mess made over the past 8 years.3 points

https://nypost.com/2023/12/01/news/video-shows-smuggler-cutting-down-part-of-border-wall/ Video shows smuggler cutting down part of border wall to make way for one-legged Peruvian man Brazen people smugglers were filmed using power tools to cut down a section of the 30-foot-high steel border wall in Arizona, then taunting a camera crew on the other side as they waved a one-legged man and his family through. An unidentified coyote — the Mexican term for a border smuggler — knelt as he used a power tool to break open part of the gate so an elderly man with a walker and seven of his family members could simply walk through, with no US Border Patrol officers in sight. Afterward, the coyote who led them into the US could be seen in the gap he created and taunted NewsNation border correspondent Ali Bradley. “He’s flexing, he’s waving, he’s giving us the thumbs-up when they’re done,” she told anchor Markie Martin on “Morning in America.” Earth to knuckleheads. THESE ARE LEGAL IMMIGRANTS. These are not. They are animals. Deport them. Build a wall. Make them use the door like LEGAL immigrants.2 points

I don't need to prove jacksh!t. The burden of proof here is on you, the guy making the insane claim that a well-documented and easily explained phenomenon of aircraft contrails is actually something nefarious and part of a massive conspiracy that would require the knowledge, participation and total silence of literally hundreds of thousands of people over decades.2 points

Remember - @Caswell Thomas also claimed to have spent the better part of a couple of decades as an insurance expert who has given expert testimony in court many many many times. (while also making statements that show he has little idea of how insurance works). He also helped craft nato policy for years. No exaggeration - these are his claims. Now law school. And with that background - his writing is elementary school level at best and it's improved - it used to be worse. And just to top it off - I had to spend TWO WHOLE PAGES expaining to this 'fine legal mind' that "CIVIL" fraud is not fraud and trump wasn't going to jail and had not been convicted of a crime. Two freakin' pages. For a 'law school' attendee. The guy is a liar or a bot - he refuses to say "i'm not a bot" which is actually a thing many ai's struggle with. So who knows.1 point

In re Trump wasn't accused of rape..YES, HE WAS , that case was already decided against him. The cost...thanks to him continuing to bad mouth both the woman and the judge and his staff after being warned multiple times about sanctions ...did it anyway, several times, and ended up owing much more than if he had kept his big mouth shut . That was the recent E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million dollar case Trump.lost. He already tried appealing it but the Court denied it. What YOU consider a crime of the FBI is not what others consider a crime, and that's most of the country not just the Leftists , quite a number of my fellow Independents also think the same. Hell, so do a lot of Republicans! By "Biden" I assume you mean Joes Son Hunter because NO MONEY is going to President Joseph Biden with or without his current title as POTUS. What you said is a total" Truth Social "fabricated LIE. I told CdnFox and I am telling you, I do not read or listen to CNN ...I prefer direct sources. Direct sources give you the plain unvarnished, un-altered, unpainted truth. From that I write my comments. You note hearsay is not mentioned....that's because it is not a direct source.1 point

I fully understand what you say an dam in agreement with it all. What I said is quite correct though. Trudeau never ran with his immigration policy= he did that (with the assistance of his cabinet , his MP's, NDP and Bloc). Carbon tax is a big deal right now that adds to our cost of living in all areas. I will not agree that the "woke left wing liberal m0r0ns" (not understanding what that means or if that tags every person other than conservatives) are the ones to blame. I believe it is a very small group in power (as well as those that bathe in the effervescent power tail) and have run rampant with it. Canadians, as a whole understand the damage done with carbon tax and immigration (amongst other things. I truly hope it backfires but, prepare for 18 more months of it. Your post and my response should be in another thread.1 point

That just represses the economy. If people are penalized for buying things then they tend to either support the underground economy more or stop spending as much and guess what happens - businesses do bad and fail and people are out of work and pretty soon everyone's poor. There is no way to tax people into prosperity. The correct answer is you reduce tax burdens and help create more opportunity and encourage productivity investment. Then more people get better jobs at higher pay and produce more doing it and things are good.1 point

Israel has set a new standard of care for civilians during urban warfare. It has put far more effort into protecting Palestinian civilians from harm than any military has in any campaign in history. The Israel Defense Forces conducted an operation at al-Shifa hospital in the Gaza Strip to root out Hamas terrorists recently, once again taking unique precautions as it entered the facility to protect the innocent; Israeli media reported that doctors accompanied the forces to help Palestinian patients if needed. They were also reported to be carrying food, water and medical supplies for the civilians inside. None of this meant anything to Israel's critics, of course, who immediately pounced. The critics, as usual, didn't call out Hamas for using protected facilities like hospitals for its military activity. Nor did they mention the efforts of the IDF to minimize civilian casualties. In their criticism, Israel's opponents are erasing a remarkable, historic new standard Israel has set. In my long career studying and advising on urban warfare for the U.S. military, I've never known an army to take such measures to attend to the enemy's civilian population, especially while simultaneously combating the enemy in the very same buildings. In fact, by my analysis, Israel has implemented more precautions to prevent civilian harm than any military in history—above and beyond what international law requires and more than the U.S. did in its wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. https://www.newsweek.com/israel-has-created-new-standard-urban-warfare-why-will-no-one-admit-it-opinion-18832861 point

No but today's high school students have shown that they value getting to work sooner than spending 4+ years on a college degree. Even if it is free.. you have time that you have to spend on the classes, studying, taking exams. That either means you have a stressful life working full time while going to school full time.. or more likely, they take a part time job (therefore opportunity costs taken into account). Also, you generally have to take a certain type of job when you are going to school full time (Yes, i know this intimately). These are food service, customer service, or retail. All of which are relatively low pay and you have to deal with the public. so if a student has woke attitudes.. how would the school know this and be able to stop them from voicing such woke views on social media, word of mouth, etc? If it is easy to identify then lets seem some EXACT criteria where there is absolutely no subjective judgment. Age, city of residence, GPA are not subjective so as to give you examples.1 point

A bit of thread drift here (sorry) but I'm genuinely curious and will abandon this particular line of debate with your reply: I mentioned it previously but the “simple soldier” lesson for me during Covid was the gleeful lack of support people showed for the rights of others. Such things as cheering when neighbours got fired or calling the police when an outdoor group exceeded arbitrary gathering limits by two toddlers. Yes I said two toddlers, think about that for a second. I also said gleefully because from what I saw, the effort put forth to cause their neighbours harm was a true study in human nature. Imagine counting heads with binoculars from the other side of the lake prior to calling the police. In this case, the folks with binoculars (from the big city) were staying at their camp in clear violation of movement restrictions and they were reporting people who were full time residents. Pretty breathtaking eh? If asked, I bet that neighbour would have delivered something in the form of a T-shirt slogan they probably heard on CBC like “rights come with responsibilities.” I see this scenario as the true definition of progressive hypocrisy. Moving on now, I'm wondering if you feel any responsibility toward college aged women who are loosing athletic scholarships to uncut males? How about being injured by them in full contact sports? And what about the records being set that may now may stand in perpetuity? Is it OK with you that women’s sports are being wrecked or is that simply the price they should be expected to pay? Next we come to the prospect of uncut males invading your daughter’s, granddaughters, wife’s, sister’s (etc) change room. Is that OK? Getting back to my original premise, I think it’s noteworthy that literally none of this affects me personally. In fact, I find the prospect of athletic young women (who self identify as gay men) in the change room pretty appealing. From that perspective you would think I'd be cheering for you. BUT HERE”S THE THING My concern is actually for your wife, daughter, and granddaughter, and instead of being mortified yourself, it seems to me you're suggesting that putting aside my concern for others is (somehow) the hallmark of being progressive. I can't imagine ever wanting to join a club like that. Is there a compelling recruiting pitch I missed along the way, perhaps some aspect of this that should elicit (in me) the same level of apathy that so appalled me during the dark days of Covid? I perceive that there's a self inflicted and growing backlash looming against the sort of stratospheric (progressive) absurdities we've seen of late. That didn't have to happen with the intensity that I see on the horizon. Reasonableness might have saved the day. I'm pretty moderate (I think), largely disinclined to impose my views (or intervention) on other people... as long as they simply refrain from hurting others. I don't like bullies, and the problem liberal progressives now face is that I (and I expect many others) have come to view them as the sort of hateful, passive aggressive bullies they themselves (with the help of JT) say they hope to purge from the ranks of sane individuals who are inclined to stand opposed to their madness. Nothing in my experience suggests it's a winning hand.1 point

No, I’m not stupid. I’ll never support paying existence taxes on heating, fuel, or other necessities. For what and for whom? To save the planet? lol. As for other redistribution schemes, Canada has many already. Pointing out things you don't know squat about is always on topic with you. Shrinkflation is a tactic commonly used by the food industry, where manufacturers cut pack sizes without reducing prices, as they look to reduce their costs amid stubbornly high food price inflation. Galaxy's smooth milk chocolate bar was previously sold in a pack weighing 110g, but now tips the scales at 100g.Sep 26, 2023. https://www.theguardian.com/food/2023/sep/26/galaxy-chocolate-bars-now-10-smaller-amid-shrinkflation The worldwide chocolate shortage comes on the heels of "changing weather" issues that "have threatened cocoa tree health and production," said a report by Wells Fargo. The phenomenon has caused major processing plants in Ghana and Ivory Coast to be unable to source their beans. This Easter season, consumers can expect a spike in prices for their favorite chocolate treats as cocoa prices have reached historic highs due to dwindling supply caused by climate change, according to a recent report from Wells Fargo. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/food/2024/03/19/cocoa-prices-reach-historic-high-heres-what-consumers-can-expect/72887303007/ Yes, I knew that decades ago when logging and fishing collapsed in my region and Canadians were being told to stop being hewers of wood and drawers of...fish, in my case. Remember the old cartoon about a service economy based on polishing one another's shoes? Fortunately tourism took off and saved a number of us older workers. Just about all the new businesses I see starting up around here are by young people living the dream with their inheritances. Surf shops...pot shops...chocolate shops. Canada has always had a problem with productivity. A large part of which is ALL govt actively maintaining a low dollar policy. Another is the CRA policies that take ages to revise, 10 year write downs on equipment that's often obsolete in 3 years. Other stuff that has to be depreciated wen it should be a 100% expense writeoff. Incentives are also needed for companies to provide worker training in many areas. I've been appalled for decades at the lack of computer skills of people hired to do jobs that require them. Our infrastructure and geography also suck and sure don't help.1 point

I don't think it was about taking down the liberals in a non confidence vote, everyone already knew that the NDP is not ready to call an election, financially their coffers are not up to the task, neither is the liberals...And the Bloc is well not concerned about carbon taxes as they have their own plan, and they are not interested in the rest of the country at all. This was about defining to the entire country who was willing to freeze the carbon tax as it stands right now...and the Conservatives did just that....It shows that the other parties are not interested in giving tax payers a break , instead only interested in collecting more....says a lot to ordinary Canadians, come voting time.... now watch what happens in question period as conservatives hammer this point to the rest of Canada...when things get tougher, all the other parties were in favor of raising prices on carbon which in turn will effect every product we consume.... According to polls more than 40% of Canadians want to shelve the tax completely...and on the conservative side that climbs to a whooping 75%....who own 41 % of the vote at this time...And as the new taxes come in these numbers will continue to grow, and our climate minister is already talking about raising it again very shortly.... https://angusreid.org/trudeau-poilievre-best-prime-minister-singh-canada-politics-polling/#gsc.tab=01 point

Mass deforestation impedes the planets ability to regulate carbon dioxide which means less CO2 gets absorbed and more stays in the atmosphere to contribute to warming. This is like the most basic stuff and you can't grasp it, it's amazing.1 point
-
Does that mean you oppose logging and the forest industry or do you believe it contributes to climate change? God created man and told him to go forth and multiply and have dominion over the earth. -Genesis The forests are a god-given resource for the benefit of mankind. So some deforestation from logging, forest fires, and insects is a normal part of life. It has no significant affect on climate in the scheme of things. Man's contribution to atmospheric CO2 is only about 0.1 to 0.2% of atmospheric greenhouse gases, so it is nothing to worry about. Nature provides the other 99.8% of greenhouse gases including water vapour. Trees are re-planted after logging and eventually regrow as well. Canada's fossil contribution of CO2 is only about 1.5% of mankind's fossil emissions. It is next to nothing and won't affect global warming. There are other things that determine the earth's temperature. The obsession with what man is doing is misguided and a result of man's narcissism and inflated ego. Man is not all there is to the world and does not control the climate.1 point

That is not a simple fact at all and saying so is the worst kind of deceptive-lying-bullshit that one would normally associate with the kind of man that would scam an old lady out of her home and savings. You should be deeply embarrassed you said that. The science is VERY clear at this point that we do not know what the long term effects will be and that there ARE reasons for concern. The presence of known harmful products have been detected by health canada in the pfizer product at least and nobody knows what the effect will be but it's already being seen as a serious contender for what's causing the heart problems in many people. The best you can say is at the time we did what we could and we knew there was a big risk but we decided it was worth taking . If the "scientific concensus" that it's safe is the same as climate change then climate change is a complete and utter fraud. we knew the product was incomplete, we knew there was a danger in using an untested product, we knew mNRA technology was in its infancy and we knew there would be issues going from zero production to 12 billion doses worldwide in a few months. And we had to pull moderna because that really was killing people with some regularity fairly quickly. If you want to argue that it was a risk we had to take maybe you could make that argument but if you have to lie to make your point then you probably don't have a very good point.1 point
