Canada-wide, something like 85% of people preferred Biden over Trump (and that wasn't because they liked Biden - it was because they hated Trump) and so this isn't a great federal election strategy. 41% of Conservatives, however, approved of Trump, so in a CPC leadership contest it was hard to ignore these people. He has 2 years now to transition to a more reasonable brand, so we'll see which way he goes.
