Here in Canada the Carbon tax was brought into play to make consumers think twice about using their gas-powered transport/ tools, today gas prices are double, due to global events and consumers are still using their fossil fuel cars... Our PM is about to triple the carbon taxes and other taxers as well, people are going to keep using fossil fuels until they run out or there is a breakthrough in science. nothing is on the near horizon. Our government even though it has a steady stream of new revenue, has not sunk any new funding into research or renewables... it has mostly been through private ventures that anything is being done.2 points

Nope. It makes us ROTFL. Doing things like comparing Trudeau to a dictator and his response to the convoy as being on par with Tiananmen Square hurts Conservatives chances of being electable.2 points

Tragically Joe Biden and Justin Trudeau have declared war on the energy industry and have been attacking our domestic oil and gas industries and the people who use them. The shortage of oil and gas in America has a direct correlation with the high rate of inflation because oil and gas is used for everything in the supply chain. All in the name of fighting climate change. Man cannot control the climate and never will but they have helped deceive millions of people into believing that mankind can control the climate. This is like believing man can build a tower to heaven as in the account of men trying to do that in Genesis. Might have more success building a stairway to the moon. Joe Biden killed the Keystone XL pipeline project as one of his first actions in office. This would have supplied 400 million more barrels of oil per day. He is increasing regulation against the oil and gas industry in America making it more difficult or impossible to produce a good supply. Instead he is trying to increase the oil supply from Saudi Arabia and hopes to negotiate a deal with Communist Venezuela to get oil from them. Where is the rationale in killing north American oil production and pipelines and increasing the purchase of oil from human-rights denying dictatorships? There is no rationale. He is getting too old and senile as he approaches eighty. Joe Biden has hampered domestic energy industry while pleading for more foreign oil | Fox News1 point

Today we observe major military conflict that is developing now between two largest countries in Europe. It happened that no one stands on the sidelines and the warfare went far beyond the battlefield long ago. We do not intend to make any moral judgements, except that every war is horrible, we just state that non-military organisations are trying to impact the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Sometimes the scale of such an impact is so substantial that these parties can be fully considered as war participants. Public relations has been always an effective tool of managing and disseminating information. What is more, PR agencies not only deliver the massage, they influence people’s perception of this message. The Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) is the world’s largest professional PR body. PRCA officials were among the first who made statements about the war in Ukraine. The mood of these claims made explicit whose side they support. PRCA director-general Francis Ingham said: “I simply felt unable in good conscience to be associated with anything Russian given the war unleashed by Russia’s president” The organisation has also urged its members to consider the reputational consequences of working for companies that are not sanctioned by the UK Government but have links with Russia. In March 2022, PRCA among with another UK PR agency ICCO (International Communications Consultancy Organisation) established a new project – The Ukraine Communication Support Network (UCSN) “to coordinate volunteer communications activity in support of the people of Ukraine”. In fact, the project is designed to promote the Ukrainian narrative and damage the reputation of Russia. For instance, UCSN pushes forward newsletters about military situation in Ukraine released by the Ukrainian think-tank the Centre for Russian Studies. The letters are intended to “inform and educate” international, English-speaking media and politicians. In other words, ‘legitimate’ Ukrainian propaganda replaces ‘malicious’ Russian disinformation. Several initiatives advertised by UCSN look simply absurd. Letter ‘Z’ that is considered as symbol of Russian invasion of Ukraine was suggested to be removed from the name of popular brands. It is remarkable that such garbage ideas turn into reality. For example, in March 2022, Zurich Insurance Group retired its short logo (a white Z in a blue circle) due to the symbol becoming associated with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Next step might be total abolishment of letter Z from the English alphabet. This is just the tip of the iceberg. The largest and the most influential PR agencies play a critical part in the military conflict in Ukraine. These organisations affect people’s understanding of what is happening in the world. In fact, they decide what is right and what is wrong as well as determine and legitimate current scheme of values.1 point

I didn't think it would take long for the sense Freeland's comments were self serving. I almost started the thread off on that basis. In any case her comments have certainly resonated with my own sense that wheeling and dealing with dictators is probably the most dangerously least productive thing we could be doing to make the world a better place.1 point

Oh, I think you can make that stuff up. He answered the question. The interviewer didn't have to repeat himself. I think odds are pretty slim that he actually fell asleep- or he's a pretty damn talented sleeper to keep the conversation going. But I don't think you actually care. There are multiple videos of Trump falling asleep on the job-- the COVID briefing comes to mind first. Does that disqualify him in your eyes? If not, then you post is just more hyperpartisan twaddle. -- For my part, I'm certain we'd be much better off if Trump had nodded off for the whole 4 years.1 point

i believe you made your debut here by trying to seriously reference a satirical The Onion-style article that was actually poking fun at your position, so I think your ability to critically analyze media is already pretty well established, but the film you're referencing is pure propaganda and has been thoroughly debunked by people across the political spectrum. There's nothing factual about it. D'Souza has made a lot of money selling pure, distilled crap to people dumb enough to buy it, and he'll continue to make more until you stop buying it. If you're into fiction, there are a lot of better options out there.1 point

I'm in NB , but i do have the internet which does have Russian media on it, somewhere in the middle is the truth. And right now, Russian military is losing ground on all fronts except one where the Wagner group is operating. It won't be long now before someone does something to escalate this whole war. Bringing in NATO which will only lead to bad things for both sides.1 point
-
Perhaps it is not about Ukraine or NATO, maybe it is that Russia invaded a country without meeting the legal requirements to use force on another nation. Well NATO could easily find dozens of other nations to pick a fight with, i would have at least picked one that does not have nuclear weapons maybe that's just me.1 point

If they actually treated it like a real problem that needed real solutions, rather than an opportunity to pander to their base or to make money, that would be wonderful. In Ontario we're still stinging from the Liberal's disastrous green power schemes, where McGuinty and Wynne threw billions at farmers and other special interests to generate insignificant amounts of power wind/solar at 2-4x the going rate for such projects in the rest of NA. We can thank them for 8 years of Doug Ford (who hasn't been nearly as bad as I expected, I'll admit).1 point

The only reason to regulate firearms of law abiding folks is additional fees which Trudeau can squander on trips to the Cayman Islands or pay to "charities" who can then in turn pay his momma hefty speaking fees. Nothing to do with "safety"1 point

Hey STUPID!! We already mansplained this to you. Simple Fact: They Keystone XL wouldn’t be running for years, so it has zero impact on gas prices today. Another Simple Fact: The Keystone XL pipeline is being constructed to allow the EXPORT of petroleum outside the US. So even after it’s completed, it will have zero impact on US oil prices. Simple facts like these have been pointed out, but you stick with the lies. True, Biden’s policies may have an impact on FUTURE gas prices. But they have nothing to do with the cost of gas TODAY.1 point

Surprisingly I have to agree with most of what you're saying here, though we've already learned my views on some of these issues are not nearly as...strong. I think Poilievre will slowly pivot to more mainstream conservatism. Trumpism is (overall) mostly reviled in Canada, with the exception being among Canada's conservatives. Canada-wide, something like 85% of people preferred Biden over Trump (and that wasn't because they liked Biden - it was because they hated Trump) and so this isn't a great federal election strategy. 41% of Conservatives, however, approved of Trump, so in a CPC leadership contest it was hard to ignore these people. He has 2 years now to transition to a more reasonable brand, so we'll see which way he goes.1 point

In the solely Canadian context spending is a measure of increase/decrease/attention in the military. In a world context for comparisons only the size (people) and equipment tells the story. Canada spends about $26b on the military and has maybe 50k-60k people with decades old equipment. Turkey spends $15b and has 355k people and newer equipment, including armed drones, and lots of them, anti-air, anti-armor, self-propelled artillery, and surface to surface missiles, none of which Canada possesses. It has 3,000 tanks while Canada has perhaps 60, ten times as many armored vehicles, a bigger navy, and a bigger air force.1 point

Your right, but if Russia is boxed into a corner, it will use every weapon including WMD that's in their doctrine. And while NATO does have superior weapons, never underestimate the power of numbers, NATO like everyone has been living off all the peace bonds from the last 30 years and has let its military slide to drastic numbers. Canada being one of the worst offenders. Global war does not care if you're ready or not, our sons and daughters will still go armed with hand me downs form other nations, but we will be there. This is horrifying OSINT (open source intelligence) investigators stated the real irreparable losses of the Ukrainian army. The irreparable losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of October 20, 2022 amounted to 402,000 people, of which 387,000 were killed.1 point

That’s false. Ukraine was ruled by a brutal anti-west, pro-Moscow Russian puppet until February 2014 when he fled to Moscow after a popular uprising. Russia invaded within days of their puppet fleeing the country. By the end of March 2014 pro-Russian militias suddenly and magically appeared in Donbas out of nowhere in the Donbas, fully trained and armed with fresh Russian military equipment and vehicles including tanks and self-propelled anti-aircraft missiles and supported by de-badged Russian army regulars and special forces. In July 2014 those forces accidentally shot down Malaysian Airlines Flight 17, flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, killing all 283 passengers on board1 point

2,000 mules is a hilarious joke and if you can’t see the gaping plot holes you seriously lack critical thinking skills. The “evidence” for Trumps unproven election lies is another collective of unproven lies, in a documentary made by a partisan Republican operative who’s previously been convicted of election fraud. Yet we’re supposed to just take his word over the word of non-partisan cellphone experts over the accuracy of geolocation data. We’re also supposed to just take his word that: - -his team somehow inexplicably filtered out all the innocent and legitimate passersby (he won’t tell anyone how), - that the addresses these alleged “mules” repeatedly visited belong to Democratic NGOS (he won’t tell us the addresses or name the NGOs) - that he has camera footage showing the same “mules” returning over and over again (he only shows each visiting “mule” once) - that any of these “mules” deposited anything other than legitimate ballots. Even if these were “mules” - which they’re not - How do we know these weren’t Trump mules who failed to turn the tide? No fake, altered or otherwise illegitimate ballots have been found and you kinda need that to prove that there were fake, altered or otherwise illegitimate ballots.1 point

And yet another case of the FBI going rogue, this time seizing safety deposit boxes at random. Except the warrant specified not touching such boxes. https://reason.com/2022/07/26/what-is-the-fbi-hiding-about-its-raid-on-innocent-americans-safe-deposit-boxes/ “There are substantial constitutional issues raised by the FBI's raid of U.S. Private Vaults that ought to worry any American concerned about privacy. Before raiding the business, the FBI built a lengthy case against U.S. Private Vaults' owners, who have been charged with several crimes. But the businesses' hundreds of customers were viewed as guilty by association, and the FBI's affidavit seeking permission to seize the safe deposit boxes stored at U.S. Private Vaults relied on sweeping generalizations rather than specific allegations of wrongdoing. “ … ”Four depositions that could be crucial to understanding the motivations and intentions behind the FBI's March 2021 raid of U.S. Private Vaults, a Beverly Hills–based safe deposit box storage business, are being kept confidential at the request of federal prosecutors. Attorneys representing some victims of the raid say the depositions could contain important information about how and why the FBI decided to seize and catalog the private belongings of U.S. Private Vault's customers.”1 point

And what of the other ex-Warsaw pact countries do they surrender as well, do we vote them out of NATO, why has Putin drawn a line in the sand stating that Ukraine is the last straw, when many other NATO countries also border Russia. Russia, before this Ukraine war was feared by most of the world. it was thought they had a very modern military, that could fight, when in reality Ukraine has shown this to be a hollow core at best. Putin has destroyed that reputation of Russia being a world power, now it is only a nuclear menace with a mad man on the trigger. Yes, Zelensky has dropped his draws and pissed on Putin's Russia, but that is not worth destroying the planet over, nor is it an excuse for Russia to invade, which is Putin's style, well Russia style anyways.1 point

Yup. We're getting over it as society so...Don't worry though, the covidiots who always thought it was a nothingburger will keep things burning for years. Hopefully our political leaders will start focusing on protecting us from climate change denialism but I'm not holding my breath given their incompetence at just about anything they do. I actually think the smartest thing many politicians did during COVID was to recognize their limitations in the face of a truly in-our-face crisis and cede so much to experts who stepped in to 'save the day'. I only wish they could do the same in the case of climate change. Oh well, maybe it's just not in our face enough yet.1 point

Both are inappropriate, but one thing happens between consenting adults, the other happens between a grown man and a child in their own care. Stop acting like grown women can't find a way to deal with an inappropriate and unwanted grope. Movie stars, rock stars, famous athletes, really good-looking & buff guys, and billionaires can usually tell which women they can grab by the crotch and which ones they can't. There's a higher percentage than usual among the types of women who engage in particular activities. Sorry to say, but some women like it, just not from you. I worked in a night club when I was much younger and I can tell you for certain that a large percentage of women like it when a male stripper grabs them by the crotch. It's like a badge of honour. Just forget everything that you learned watching G-rated movies and get over it. Not every relationship starts and ends the way you think it should.1 point

If the State of Arizona paid the CyberNinjas, why isn’t this report hosted on a website of the State? Or even a website hosted by CyberNinjas? I did find the CyberNinja final report on the AZ Republicans website, which is still a little sketchy but it looks like the actual report. https://www.azsenaterepublicans.com/cyber-ninjas-report Here’s the report summary, quoted from the source: ”there were no substantial differences between the hand count of the ballots provided and the official election canvass results for Maricopa County. This is an important finding because the paper ballots are the best evidence of voter intent and there is no reliable evidence that the paper ballots were altered to any material degree.” So that’s their conclusion: Biden beat Trump in Arizona. As for the issues you mentioned, CyberNinjas listed how many of those votes were Trump and how many were Biden votes, and they were basically split down the middle, so they had no impact on the outcome.1 point
