The polls are saying a weak Liberal majority: https://338canada.com/ I think the Liberals will win. If so I hope a minority. PP has ran a really bad campaign. You've got to be a brain-dead fool to run on a Trumpian "Canada First" election slogan in a country that hates Trump more than ever, and also promise to use the notwithstanding clause for the first time ever for the feds. I agree with "Canada First" in principle, but just don't use a Trump slogan if most of the country hates the guy FFS. I think Trump cooked the CPC's chances and PP didn't do anything to quell the fears of Canadians that he's pro-Trump.4 points

Well the CPC was polling in the mid-40's until Trudeau stepped down. Some of that support went to the Liberals, none of it went to the Bloc or PPC. I agree a big # of NDP and Green supporters went to the Liberals when Carney came on. If I were PP i would have distanced myself from Trump in any way possible, not painted "Canada First" in giant font on the side of my campaign plane. There's other ways he could have expressed his stance on prioritizing Canadian interests more (which I 100% agree with) without copying a Trump slogan. He also copied Trump's policy of defunding university research grants that are woke. I'm as anti-woke as they come but PP has to understand the message these things send to a country where many fear Trump and Trumpism. The Trump campaign strategy won't work as well in Canada as it does in the US. I think Canadians want change, but they also want a PM who will best stand up to Trump. That's why the polls are so split IMO.3 points

Michael Chong and Erin O'Toole aren't chuds. Nor Mitt Romney. You're just assuming I'm a Liberal supporter because I'm not a Trumpster like yourself. Again, anyone to the left of you is a leftist LOL. I was literally defending conservatives in my first post in this thread you fool. I really don't care what you assume I am. Have fun.3 points

^Look at inEstiNe talking about reasonable, intelligent discussion. 🤣 And as if that wasn't enough, the illiterate twerp actually said "(and intelligible)", then followed it up with this balderdash: You already know the truth, all of and final of it and the only problem is what others don't see or wouldn't accept it. It's like English is your second language but you learned it from reading napkins. Honestly, your posts should have to be in the Crayola font from now on, so that people don't waste 1.3 seconds figuring out what an id10t you are.2 points

This was predicted at least 30 years ago. If all the world's ice melts, sea levels will rise 216 ft. That doesn't include rise from thermal expansion which depends on water temperature and accounts for about half the sea level rise over the last century. I leave it to the individual to decide whether that would be a problem.2 points

How could you ever prove definitively that it was the tumor and that there was no further risk? Lock them up in a minimum security prison for the rest of their lives. If they have already taken several other people's lives, why risk anyone else? He stated that his goal was to protect society. "That is the guaranteed way to protect society."2 points

What a cesspool of negativity, rage, wild groundless accusations and pure distilled hatred. They seriously think and hope that it would help their cause. Why? Because that's who they are, how they think. This is the world that works for them that they cherish and admire. Do you want it as yours? If not my statement about has to be valid and true at least till some epiphany moment transpires. How and through what could it happen don't ask me.1 point

Socially engineered demographic change is a far greater existential threat to Western civilization than man-made Climate change ever was. Liberals are guilty of the former. Things will only devolve & divide further as we approach tipping point. Millions dead, societal collapse within our lifetimes.1 point

Michael Chong is my MP and he's a great guy. That's the sort of Conservative I can (and usually do) get behind. Erin O'Toole isn't one of the chuds, but he couldn't convince people that he wasn't listening to them. Stephen Harper knew how to control and squelch the dumbest parts of the rabble in the CPC, but Pierre Poilievre is embracing them. If he loses, that's going to be why.1 point

The question was whether or not people liked the party leaders. Where on this chart are they telling us how much people like or dislike the party leaders? Nowhere!? Great "math lesson", muppet! 🤡👌1 point

Doctors are not professionals dedicated to evaluating the risk to society of crime. The ability to be "stable" or "function on their own" has nothing to do with a criminal risk to the rest of society. They are not just patients, or we would not be talking about this in a thread regarding the justice system.1 point
-
I don't think that is correct. A mentally ill person who murdered someone, for example, could still be a threat to society. The problem with the system is mentally ill people who commit murder could wrongly be released into society who are still a danger to other people. In fact I posted some examples earlier to show at least one person who has received day passes with an attendant but who is still considered a serious danger by a committee or board. Releasing such people cannot be based on the opinion of just one doctor who may have poor judgment and is just guessing. No doctor can say with certainty that someone who committed murder is now safe to release. He is not god and is unable to know how mentally ill person's mind works. He simple cannot guarantee what the patient will do. It is better to err on the side of caution and protect society.1 point
-
It is nonsense to say someone who murdered someone is not a criminal, but is a patient. If you can't see the insanity of that claim, there is not much one can say. Speaking hypothetically, if a person with serious mental issues murdered someone, then they fit the definition of a criminal. Murder is a crime and there is no escaping that fact. Dictionary definition of criminal: crim·i·nal [ˈkrimənl, ˈkrimn(ə)l] noun a person who has committed a crime: So if they killed someone, then they broke the law. That meets the definition of criminal whether or not they are found by the court as being criminally responsible. The legal system, which in the opinion of much of the population is seriously flawed, may say they are not criminally responsible (NCR). The court rulings don't say they are not criminals or that they didn't murder someone. The court is saying that according to the legal system, bought in by the Liberals, the accused person is not guilty by reason of insanity or NCR. The faulty legal system may find in the verdict that they are not guilt of murder, but that doesn't change the definition of what the word murder means. The court declares them not guilty. It doesn't say they didn't commit murder. If someone, who is mentally ill or not, kills someone, that fits the dictionary definition of murder. There are two different subjects on this. There is the court ruling and there is the dictionary definition of murder. You seem to have difficulty in understanding the meaning of the word murder and the finer points of how the legal system works. Also, just because they are declared by the court to be not criminally responsible (for their crime of murder) does not mean the court is saying they are safe to be released into society. They could still be held in a mental institution for the rest of their lives. This is hypothetical because we are not talking about an actual case. I posted several actual cases earlier to show how the system has actually worked.1 point

You brought it up again, you donkey. If you want to respond to my last post in that thread rather than tuck tail after clowning yourself as you did, bring it. I'm always game to watch you make a fool out of yourself, as you're doing even here. These unhinged, spastic rants where you insist on fantasy re-imaginings of your past humiliations, however, are useless. Nobody reads them. Nobody even know what you're talking about except me, and I'm just laughing at you.1 point

He said he was sticking around if he loses. Who knows? Not you or I. PP has never had a job outside of barking slogans and insults at opponents. Good at it? Maybe if what counts is riling up the base, but judging by the fact that the majority of Canadians don't like him and he seems poised to lose what should have been an unlosable election, I'd say that's up for debate!1 point

You mean you posted something online about a decades ago and did nothing else as well? A very white of you If I did you'd be my best friend because you'd think I was a victim Is it? Okay The problem is I'm not. That's why you get so angry. You know I'm actually correct and you cannot defend your position. When you side with terrorists for the slaughter of innocent people and I point out your bullshit you get angry because your position is indefensible. When You claim that a repeat violent offender who attempted to murder a woman is the victim here and I point out what a load of garbage that is, you get angry because you can't defend your position. It all boils down to the same thing. You're dishonest scudball who believes more in the rights of whomever your echo chamber tells you to rather than people and when you get called on it you become frustrated because there's absolutely no moral defense for your position. Then you make some stupid claim about how none of this would be a problem if harper was better and we all wore body cameras, claim you've been saying the same thing for decades when Half the time the issue hasn't been around for decades and then blame me for your stupidity1 point

Well Radio Canada released it and they're the only ones that Poilievre is saying he still considering funding so... But it's a very common tactic with dishonest media sources that they will release negative information either at the last millisecond or slightly after the last millisecond or election so that they can give the impression that they were actually honest and unbiased all along, see they posted a negative story right here! But they do it in a way that minimizes damage. Let's be honest if it was Poilievre and the roles were reversed they would have given him three or four days to talk up how great the call went and then they would have gone for his throat and never let up1 point

I'm going out on a limb here and predict a Conservative majority, with younger Canadians showing up in force to make the difference.......because they want change not the same stuff we have had over the last 8 plus years...as for the polls well i'm hoping for the same results the Last American election had and Thats what we have with Carney, the same party, same MP's , same sh!t.... Wrong question what is Carney going to do if he loses, think he will stick around....his bags are already packed...1 point

I wouldn't go past this. If you were interested in a reasonable, intelligent (and intelligible) discussion, it would have been stated very differently. You are very obviously, not. And that's representative and indicative of the problem. You already know the truth, all of and final of it and the only problem is what others don't see or wouldn't accept it. So it has to be sold to them or forced on them under any guise and/or by any means because you already know that you couldn't be wrong. Yes, this is the problem.1 point

So a natural phenomenon is more effective at moving us from our current ice age into the (more common) gas house era and that is a crisis? Why? Gas house stages have always seen the most amount of life. There is a larger temperate climate zone that results in more vegetation and thus more animal life. So, why exactly is this a crisis?1 point

And anyone who isn't left of Castro is a chud The very fact you'd have to use dehumanizing language like that shows that you know you're in the wrong. Erin really did lie and break his promises, he got tossed. Simple as that. He said no carbon tax, came up with a new carbon tax. Said he'd balance the budget and came out with a budget that trudeau could have written. Said he'd support gun owners, spent 3 days flip flopping. And a bunch of other things. The guy was right up the liberal alley and that's the simple truth. The problem is you guys have gone too far to the left. Now anybody that doesn't openly call for quadrupling funding to the CBC and providing gender transformation surgeries ahead of heart surgeries which you consider to be less important is a chud hey sparky. You obviously don't detest the liberals. And look at what the hell they've done to our country in the last 10 years. Poilievre has put forward a very reasonable and very light conservative plan that focuses the country on solving the problems over the next. Of years in a fashion that isn't radical or jarring or anything. Yet according to you it's a far right almost nazi-esque budget Get real. And remember this, there is always a backlash. If you pull too hard for one way for too long history tells us that eventually it snaps back and it snaps back harder . Something to keep in mind1 point

The old asylums were horrible places and the arrival of effective antipsychotic medication in the Fifties brought a revolution in effective care, as disturbed patients suddenly required much less physical restraint. The first psychiatrist I can find that published his use of the French drug Largactil in Canada, and North America for that matter, was Heinz Lehmann in Montreal’s Verdun Protestant Hospital in 1954. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/archneurpsyc/article-abstract/651712?resultClick=1 https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2655089/#b48-ndt-3-495 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinz_Lehmann At the time there was understandable concern about the conditions in psychiatric hospitals and the rights of patients. Community care, combined with medication and appropriate counselling, was seen as a more humane alternative. Unfortunately, the cost of such care and who was responsible for it were less well defined than the mechanics of running large public institutions, giving governments in Canada and across the world - we were by no means alone in this - the opportunity to greatly reduce current budgets while making commitments for the future that they never fulfilled. Thus the number of psychiatric beds in Canada declined from 430 per 100,000 in 1959 to 70 per 100,000 in 2017, a grossly inadequate number. For too many, the worthy goal of deinstitutionalization became simply dehospitalization. https://madridge.org/journal-of-internal-and-emergency-medicine/mjiem-1000103.php With the benefit of hindsight, it’s easy to see now that the goal should have been to improve institutional care, moving carefully selected patients to community care only when that was adequately funded. Looking back, the level of optimism about a new and completely untested system was absurdly high. There is a sociological element to this story that we should be honest about. People with chronic psychotic disorders are not politically powerful. They don’t have the advocates for their care that sick children or breast cancer patients have. Unless money for them is ring-fenced, politicians will inevitably respond to what the public calls more loudly for.1 point
