The entire farking purpose of a constitutional system (rather than a pure democracy or autocracy) is to create laws more durable than the whims of one election. That the whole point of this "nation of laws" business. The POTUS can set whatever goals they want, but they have to follow the law to pursue them. They mostly only have wants. They will say whatever they think it takes in the moment to satisfy their wants whether it’s based in truth or an absurd outlandish lie doesn’t matter. It could be a big want like annexing Canada and Greenland or a small impulsive want like deflecting a reporter’s embarrassing question. This is why they’re immune to embarrassment when their false claims are fact checked, debunked or exposed as illogical or hypocritical, it simply doesn’t matter to them or their supporters. We know Trump was doing more of his bullshitting because practically in the same breath he said that he said Trudeau was the worst and “nastiest” he had ever dealt with and also that he has said publicly that he doesn’t know anything about PP except that he’s stupid for not being MAGA. And IIRC not too long ago Trump once spoke positively about the then-expected conservative landslide victory in Canada. That sounds like the exact opposite of preferring liberals to conservatives. And of course there has never been a conservative government since Trump entered politics so what would he base any assessment of them on anyways? Trump’s comments is just another example of the world’s dumbest politician making the world’s most obvious attempt of reverse psychology possibly because he prefers conservatives and definitely because he’s trying to cover up for the damage he’s done to conservative parties across the western world Trump’s political incompetence has done more to boost the failing left and centre-left parties across Europe and Canada than anything else. The judge ordered the plane turned around. Trump openly defied the order, thus breaking the law. There is something called "checks and balances". The judicial branch is a check on power grabs by the president. The president was acting outside of his powers when he deported all those people for no other reason than his say-so that "they are bad people." A president should not have that power. It is dictatorial. If the deportees had been given due process, we would have found out that some were not gang members at all. When the president overpowers the law, that is dictatorial.1 point

We should have learned something from the huge cost of maintaining, repairing, overhauling and/or buying parts etc from the experience of the CH149 Cormorant from England/Italy (Agusta/Westland) and the soon to be in service CC-295 Kingfisher from CASA in Spain. No one in Canada want so be (or can afford to set up for such small fleets)a service centre for the components of these aircraft. So, we have to continually ship them to Europe and back. While the anti American sentiment is rampant, the F35 is a far superior aircraft than the others and it's proximity to us as well as us having certain capability in Mirabel and Pratt &. Whitney in the Montreal area only makes sense. Oh and the already $19 billion spent on development makes the F35 the only real option.1 point

Trump said in a press conference that he would use economic pressure to make Canada the 51st state. It was very clear. He doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with hurting families and populations in order to subjugate them to American control against the will of the people. His statements are undemocratic and promote oppression. You don’t need a political science degree to see the obvious. That Trump is willing to try this with America’s closest ally and biggest buyer of American goods illustrates what he’s about as a person and president. The world is watching. The U.S. under Trump is not trustworthy or supportive of a world that’s safe for democracy. Smaller countries are most at risk, because Trump’s foreign and domestic policy appears to be, More power to the powerful at the expense of those with less power. Russia is taking Trump at his word and seeing how far inside Ukraine they can push without the supposed “leader of the free world” caring. It appears that they can push very far without regard to the will of Ukrainians. Is that Trump’s vision for how the world should work? No thanks. Unfortunately Trump acts based on how he feels in the moment, and the people around him won’t question or keep him in check. The Congress and courts are not reeling him in enough, which raises questions about how well the U.S. government system works. I don’t respect warmongering and undermining democratically elected foreign governments. No doubt that was done to Ukraine and Biden contributed to that. Nevertheless, the answer isn’t to give green lights to undemocratic invasion. If Trump has an argument to make for why Canada becoming the 51st state is beneficial to Canadians and Americans, he should make it to the peoples of both countries and let the people decide through their respective governments. Disregarding trade agreements and threatening economic coercion won’t win Canadians over. If anything it will make them distrust the US. It also makes the possibility of brokering a better economic partnership for both countries harder. Why get further enmeshed with a partner who can renege on agreements and crush you without concern for your wellbeing? It sucks because Trump has disappointed many people who wanted to believe in him. He has essentially revived the Liberals in Canada because of their association with US opposition to Trump, damaging conservatism in the West at a time when countries like Canada desperately needed to pivot from radical left ideology.1 point
