  1. Why can't you Nazis get off your fat asses, get jobs, read for a change and knock off the ignorant lies. There is road kill that will score higher on a college SAT than you goose steppers.

  2. I fully understand the police have a very difficult job but there’s a line you can’t go beyond. It was clearly crossed with both Floyd and Eric Garner, another person suspected of a minor crime who posed no imminent threat to the public. You can’t compromise a suspect’s breathing unless you are in mortal danger.

  3. Russia invasion of Ukraine had nothing to do with NATO, Russia didn't even mention it as a reason for annexing Crimea or Donbas. It was all about taking back what Russia considered to be theirs and protecting so called ethnic Russians. Since then they have also occupied all the territory between Donbas and Crimea and would dearly like to take Odessa as well to completely isolate what remains of Ukraine from the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. This has never been about anything but blatant aggression against a neighbour. Russia invaded Ukraine, I don't know how many times that needs to be said. Maybe Russia should learn to be a better neighbour so their neighbours don't feel the need to join a NATO to protect themselves from Russia. They lived under the Soviet yoke for almost 50 years and know what Russia is all about far better than you or I.

  4. Russia annexed Crimea because Biden and Obama were talking about Ukraine joining NATO all the way back in 2009. Period. Part of the reason that Biden was even in Ukraine "helping them get rid of the corruption in their country" was so that they could eventually join NATO. The US was investing heavily in shoving NATO up Russia's ass when Obama was president. That's the world that we all live in, regardless of what you want to believe. I get that you personally dislike Putin. I get that he's a dictator. I get that Russia is, now more than ever before, an actual enemy of our country and of Canadians. But that doesn't alter the facts one bit. Russia didn't just do a land grab for no reason. CRIMEA AS A PART OF NATO DOES NOT WORK FOR RUSSIA. NATO IN EASTERN UKRAINE DOES NOT WORK FOR RUSSIA. RUSSIA HAD NO CHOICE BUT GO TO WAR TO PREVENT THAT. Yeah, I get that CNN wants you to believe that Ukraine was only invaded because Putin is a weally bad guy, but CNN doesn't own your f'ing brain. You do. WTF would you do if you were Russia (not Putin but RUSSIA) and NATO was going to be in Crimea, so you'd lose your Sevastopol naval base there which dominates the Black Sea... American subs and ships would be operating from there... You see the world through the eyes of a child. Obama/Biden's plan for NATO in Crimea and Ukraine is WAYYYYYY across Russia's red line. All that you're saying when you keep posting is that you don't have a f'ing clue why wars are fought, and what kind of consequences there are for sticking a military alliance in someone's face. I still have close friends who will die if end up at war with Russia. I don't treat this like a series of CNN/Putin talking points. It's real life, with real consequences and real wars. Stop thinking like a keyboard warrior and act like Canadian lives depend on us doing the right thing. "NOT ONE INCH EASTWARD" (Past Germany). I got out of the Navy just after that. I was getting out when the Berlin wall was coming down. I actually had plans to go there with some of my friends after we got out, but two of them chickened out and stayed in the navy. That was a great time. The cold war was ramping down, bigtime. FFWD to 2009, suddenly it's a shitshow again because of hawkish Demonrat policies. The Dems and everyone dumb enough to support this can go straight to hell. We poked the bear, buh-bye Crimea and the Donbas. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. "NOT ONE MORE F'ING DOLLAR FOR UKRAINE, learn to be better neighbours."

  5. No, and my dog doesn't bite either. But I'm actually looking forward to it because every so often Canadians need a good conservative whack upside their collective head to re-establish why we're a progressive country. It's just as certainly true that progressives need time-outs on occasion to re-establish their priorities - a natural quintessential period of constructive destruction. Poilievre should enjoy his moment in the sun, I guarantee you it won't last and it will go down in flames. They all do, always. So I wonder how long Poilievre and his supporters will try to ride the old we-inherited-a-mess shtick to explain their failures and faux pas?

  9. In the meantime...between his attempts to double down on his BS after his terrorism knee jerked in reaction to a Faux News report and then throwing his anti climate-change pro-Putin base a couple of fresh bones voting down a free trade agreement with Ukraine...all I can say is if you've seen one chud you've also seen Poilievre.

  10. I don't eve know what to say - He's adamant we can't discuss the holocaust which has been studied to death over the years because "YOU WERE NOOOOTTT THEEEEERE!!!" But he's 100 percent certain about all the bad things israel has done over the last 100 years. Despite not being there. ANd takes the Hamas casualty numbers as verbatim. Despite not being there. And the hostages - all zoionists. Despite the fact he was never there. I think the only thing we can conclude at this point is he's not altogether there.

  11. No it's not. It's just something that you've seen repeated over and over in the retardo-sphere and that's all it takes to convince someone as dumb as you about something you already want to believe. That's also why you think the US election was stolen - orange man repeats the lie enough times and the intellectually stunted just accept it. Ukraine doesn't trust a diplomatic solution with Russia that forces them to cede territory, because Vladimir Putin's word is worth less than used toilet paper. Any settlement, they reason, is nothing more than a pause for them to re-arm and regroup before their next bullshit excuse to invade.

  12. 1. How are 'foreign warlords' taking advantage ? You mean by sowing division ? If so, that's at least as much a product of our rights to unencumbered self-expression as social divisions isn't it ? 2. It's a stretch of futurism to try to predict social problems fifty years hence. Imagine it 1973... anyone predicting half of the social change we see today let alone the political-economic changes would make Nostradamus look like a punter. 3. What happened in the past few weeks ? The Hamas attacks is the only thing I can think of and we're talking about it - to my mind in pretty open terms. 4. I don't think it's hyperbole to THINK about group-think. ( I call it by its old name on purpose ) I do think it's hyperbole (and self-serving) to warn that it will be destroying us in 50 years. It's very hard to predict 50 years down the way as I point out. And the alternative is to suppress free discussion on things like race, equality and such which we have NOT done. We have Balkanized the discussion but as evidenced by this forum there is a vast though unmeasured weight of quiet centrist thought on many of these topics. I am open to ideas that this person submits, and maybe more than ever too... but I always need evidence and not just anecdotes of some campus extremist's statements.

  13. ?‍♂️No, I used recency bias exactly correctly to contrast the point-in-time Hamas attack with the ongoing Israeli response. You folks were complaining about the CURRENT volume of condemnation of Israel's killing relative to Hamas. I explained why. The alarming videos and headlines that are more recent naturally consume more of the mental and emotional energy of the audience. The focus of conversation naturally shifts. I'll quote myself for your benefit: "That empathy, sympathy and support does get eroded quickly as the retaliation blows up civilians day after day. What we're actually observing is an example of recency bias. We can all look at what Hamas did in October and say that was wrong. But what the Israelis are currently doing is active and ongoing--they are killing civilians day after day--so of course the emotional support shifts very quickly to STOP THE KILLING." I appreciate that you went and looked it up and everything. You got the definition right. Good on you. But now you have to actually apply it to the conversation. And again, kudos for acknowledging the misinformation on the revised death toll. Progress.

  14. Not even fair. Groot's not a run-of-the-mill conspiracy clown and likening him to them is the sort of black-and-white us vs them myopia that I'm talking about here. Some of the things he complains about are things I've argued against in the past and I would (at least to some extent) agree with him. It just seems to me like he's drowning in culture war hysterics and losing any sense of nuance or reason with it.
    1 point
  15. And yet you still used the words wrong, so whatever. If it was a case of recency bias then they'd be assigning more weight to recent events, not older ones. Just learn that for future reference, I don't really care what you do. That's unfortunate, 30 would be better than 470, but it was still a Hamas rocket.

  19. Why would we do that unless we thought we were already in danger of being invaded by the US? Russia had already annexed Crimea and was actively carrying on a proxy invasion in Donbas. Ukraine had every reason to want to be a NATO member. I don't know what world you live in.

  20. You only see the world from the end of your own nose. If Canada tried to join a military alliance with America's enemies, we would be invaded and that's that. The ink wouldn't be dry before the concept of Canada was a distant memory. This is Biden/Zelenski's war. Ukraine lost territory. End of story.

  21. This is ALL about Ukraine's push to join NATO. If he didn't do that, there would have been no war. "Not one inch past Germany" turned into "NATO all up in Russia's grille". Obama/Biden issue was all about this from '09 to 2016 and then again from 2021-now. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Putin is a liar and a bully and a murderer and a lot of other things, but this war isn't about those things, it's about NATO aggression. I was in NATO myself. I was in the Canadian navy for 3 years. I was trained to kill Russians. But we were never told that we'd be the a-holes.

  22. Well Ukraine could have given 1/3 of their territory and installed a Kremlin-friendly leader to power in order to avoid war, but as we ahve seen throughout history, appeasement almost never works. This is an absolute horrible take. First off, it is Zelenskyy. Secondly, do you know anything of the history of the Ukraine? Russia has been invading and occupying the countr Ask the majority of the Ukrainian population this. They are literally fighting for the lives, in order to preserve the sovereignty of their country. I have not seen a conflict so cut and dry as to how is the bad guy and who is the good guy as the Russia-Ukraine War. It boggles the mind how some here are rooting for a dictator, who is heel bent on destroying an ethnic group and nation. History will be kind to Zelenskyy and the courageous men who fought the Russian aggressors. As opposed to the Kremlin propaganda that you are spoon fed?

  28. I don't think that the things they say are 100% wrong, I just think that the things that they omit are critical to understanding the situation. The Jews are up against centuries of discrimination, subjugation, genocides, being banned from their own holiest sites, etc. The level of violence that the Israelis faced long before, recently before, during, on the day of, and shortly after their creation as a country, and just last month, makes a pretty good case that their paranoia and crackdowns are warranted. When they let their guard down they get slaughtered by people whose stated goal is to slaughter them. I'd be paranoid too. The media was bad when it was just politically skewed, but it is becoming a cesspool of politically polarized invective. People are starting to hate one another just based on the political leanings, and I'm talking within Canada and the US, not Rwanda. It's 2nd-class citizen lite compared to the 600 years of Ottoman rule. Jews couldn't hold jobs where they had muslims below them, couldn't pray in their own holy sites (1,000 years of not being allowed to pray at Temple Mount), paid extra taxes, couldn't even ride horses in some areas, etc. Muslims can become judges in Israel and preside over cases regardless of religion. They can become Drs, engineers, etc. It's not an ideal place for muslims to be, because religious bigotry can't vanish within one or two generations, but they're better off than Jews were in muslim countries. And that's while many of the muslim countries are plotting/trying to commit genocide against Israel. I wouldn't be as understanding with the backdrop of genocide looming. I was a Palestinian supporter as a young adult. For me the tipping point was when I realized that the "refugee camps" were just there to keep the hatred going, and that children grow up in hell on earth just so that muslim children, both inside those camps and all around the world, would grow up completely immersed in hatred of the Jews. If humanity was a real concern of the muslim world, they would have ended that shithole existence the better part of a century ago. There's room for all of the Palestinian "refugees" and more in Saudi Arabia alone, and it's the land of their holiest sites, but there are also 15 other muslims countries where they could go and live in religious bliss. There are no "refugee camps" for the 8-10 million Hindus and Sikhs who were wrongfully expelled from Pakistan. There's no "right to return" necessary, because Pakistan created such a religiously bigoted shithole country that no one in their right mind would move there. Am I right? The fact that you don't live a life of absolute conviction to one viewpoint or another is refreshing. The problem with that is that it leads to genocide, and nothing else. It wouldn't take long before it was too late to put the toothpaste back in the tube. It took the world a long time to accept the fact that the Jews weren't going to just die off as a people, and to realize that the rest of the world was trying to kill them off as fast as they could. If the concept of Israel is abandoned it will mean another 1,000 years of persecution and genocide. It's taking everything the US can do to keep them there. If Hezbollah unleashed all their rockets at the some time Hamas did, I think Israel would already be gone. I agree with all that, but polarity rules right now. Whether or not Trump overestimated the value of his properties (as every is wont to do when they apply for a 2nd mtg) is the subject of a whole host of felony indictments, but the Bidens making over $10M in sketchy business dealings with the Chinese Bank and their one road, one belt executives is of no concern to Americans. "Joe didn't know" lol. I think that it's a matter of time before American technological superiority ceases to hold the decisive advantage for Israel. We're seeing more and more that Hamas has great intel on Israeli military infrastructure, they have more and more advanced weapons, better communications systems, etc. In 100 years will America really still be ahead of the Chinese? Are they ahead of the Chinese right now? Who will China support? The Chinese gov't massacred their own people in the '50s, and they had a non-delicate way of curbing their baby boom, do you think that they care if everyone in Israel dies if it can get them the support of the whole Arab world for a while? All it would take is for China to support Iran with a bit of conviction for 1 year and there will be no more Israel to discuss. Our acceptance of genocide-enthusiasts is really unhealthy imo. I think that we're being really naive: Iran is way more capable of unspeakable evil than we give them credit for.

  30. Which means what other than to construct an artificial situation to sow divisiveness? The citizens in Shaughnessy are being ripped off and deserve their own pension plan. Why should residents of Westmount have to subsidize the pensions of peasants in Vancouver's Downtown East Side. Making argument based on sheer personal financial greed seems to be a purely Albertan pastime. Not that any of my friends and relatives in AB indulge,

  43. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_Israeli–Palestinian_conflict_in_2023 That's a lot of killings by the Israelis and a lot of bombs fired at Israel by Hamas. The fact that Hamas really was storing up thousands and thousands of bombs to shoot at Israeli citizens makes the Israeli police actins look reasonable.

  44. LOL. Who do you think you're playing games with? No one here thinks much of the settlers, who are, in the main, religious zealots. But you've changed the goal sticks quite a bit from them acting the same as Hamas to asking if Palestinians don't get injured, killed or arrested. I'm sure they do. But if you can find me a few cases of settlers descending on a Palestinian camp and raping, torturing and murdering everyone they find, be my guest.

  45. Sadly there's a big difference between "What people think about another group of people, in general", and "How people will feel about individuals from other groups once they get to know them". Women are far more likely to stand with someone who says "I respect the right of any man to defend his homeland, whether it's Iran, Germany, Uganda, Israel or Palestine" than with someone who says "I love killing Jews more than Jews love life".

  46. Ethnic cleansing so determined that the population of the Palestinian territories has doubled in the last 30 years. It seems those darn Jews aren't very good at ethnic cleansing. As for calling them 'colonialists', when they've been in that region for thousands of years, that's just ignorant. Self-determination under Hamas means an Islamic state, and a determination to rid Israel of all Jews. Evidently, this is something you favour. Your neighbor hates your guts and wants to murder you and your family. And nothing is going to change his mind because it's driven by religious fanaticism. Do you want to try to control how much heavy weaponry he has at his disposal or not?
