Today i raised my glass of beer to lost brothers, and sisters, I sat around a table full of comrades where we told war stories, most of them funny, some of them sad. and how bad we all miss them. This Remembrance Day was different i took with me a good friend of mine, son, he turned 19 this year, his dad was killed not far from me in a fire fight, he has been bugging me to bring him along for a long time now, he's been wanting to meet all his dads' friends, and since we live all across Canada and only meet up once or twice a year, i finally said yes... anyways he learned what his dad was like, what kind of man he was , and how good of a soldier he was. it was a time he'll never forget, like everyone he drank way too much, his mother is pissed at me for bringing him home in that condition, but she'll get over it, I hope. Remembrance Day is not only for those that have passed on, but let's also include those that have been left behind let's not forget their pain and suffering . To those that did not come home cheers. To those that got left behind cheers. May we never forget you.

I'm not very good at articulating the why so i'll give it to you in Military speak, a leader must be able to talk to the great minds of our times, and also to the private on the ground, he must know their strengths and weakness, their culture, their religion, everything that makes them tick, we never know who we will be discussing anything with be it about hostages, trade, economics, to peace or war. we don't need them to approve of us, but we do need them to respect us, at least enough to converse. If not, then we only leave the use of force as the first and only choice. One does not have to have a large Military to be respected, and we have often used hard power to make our point such as in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Haiti (coup) and peace keeping, Yugo the list goes on. It goes beyond threats or use of force, if you take away another nation ability to take you serious then like i have said before all that is left is force, be it military or sanctions etc. why would you not want our nation's leaders to at least uphold a standard that has been set by previous PMs as a code of conduct. Canadians have been talking about Justins actions for a while now, not just a drag queen tv show, acts like taking a knee for BLM, going to Pride parade, convoy, his nick name sock boy, where did that come from, etc, all effect how our nation is seen globally, and domestically. it affects the outcome of everything the PM touches or handles.

As always, the devil is in the details. How do you give people options and protect them at the same time. For starters, I don't think MAID should be "offered" to anyone, it should be up to them to ask for it and go from there.

I think it's more complicated than good vs. bad. The article brings out important details, such as support being available to people who are marginalized and who seek death as an improvement over their current circumstances. But with help their circumstance could change and they'd decide against MAID. That aspect isn't at play so much with people who are going to die regardless of medical intervention. I have to say this article did make me think about whether I support unfettered right to choose death.

Let's talk for a minute about how you come to your beliefs. You say things like "If you really want to know the truth..." How did you come to believe what you describe as the truth? By your own admission, you don't have the science to evaluate it on your own, and in scientific communities the creationist claptrap is not even considered a scientific question. It's not taken seriously at all. People like Behe are laughingstocks and their arguments have been thoroughly dismantled by peer reviewed science. And among biologists (all the disciplines, actually) there is overwhelming confidence in evolution as both scientific theory and fact. It's not controversial, or a question, but foundational science like a Yes there are a few extreme outliers who (nearly all from a religious perspective) who have learned some science and put it to work trying to reconcile their faith with the evidence of the natural world. (It's sort of the opposite of science, and it's also not really necessary, but that's beside the point.) If you, as a layperson who lacks science, went to 100 biologists, they'd likely all be happy to explain evolution to you. You MIGHT find one "intelligent design" proponent in the mix if you stopped by Liberty University or something. But even if you found that outlier, why does it seem logical for you to latch on to the extreme heterodoxy as "truth" instead of what the overwhelming majority of experts tell you? You lack the science to discern yourself, but choose the extreme outlier? Why? It's not logic. There is no rational reason to make that choice. Rather, for whatever reason, you feel that evolution as an explanatory theory represents a threat to your religious beliefs. And rather than accept new information and revise your beliefs you will reject the information. So forgive me when I say it's hard to take your seriously when you say things like, "If you really want to know the truth." That's not ever going to be a compelling argument. Sort of like recommending that people watch propaganda to get at the truth of politics. And FWIW, everything above applies to the climate change conversation as well. It's no longer a question for the scientific community. So why would you choose to latch onto heterodoxy? Where is the application if reason?
