  1. Just get Alberta out. The international community and world court will not allow it to be landlocked. Canada, ultimately is screwed.

  4. Dude you realize that article is sarcastic and makes fun of climate deniers like yourself right? I mean right in the section you quoted the author doubts that Miami or polar ice caps ever existed. Further on in the article he doubts the existence of cows.

  7. How about if each individual just treats everyone the way they'd like to be treated, how hard can it be? Maybe that would be easier than finding systematic solutions to systemic problems that were created long before most if not all of us were even born.

  8. Hey Republicans, isn't it great to know how your political donations are spent? Forbes Magazine discovered that one of Trump's PACs, "Save America Joint Fundraising Committee," spent $158,000 buying up copies of Jared's book, "Breaking History: A White House Memoir." Four days later, the book appeared on the NY Times best-seller list. Since the books weren't purchased through Amazon, though, Kushner's book isn't even on the Amazon Top 100 list. That didn't stop them from claiming the book is an Amazon #1 Best Seller... because it's a best-seller in the category of "Mid-East Politics," which nobody ever writes about. Trump sleaze at work again... using their "Save America" donations to funnel cash to the rich son-in-law. You can see the expense listed here on the FEC's official website: https://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/C00770941/1642328/sb/21B

  13. Let's see... Carl Sagan explained to Congress in 1985 how the greenhouse effect works, how the longer we delay the more difficult the problem would be to fix and eventually would be unstoppable. 37 years later we're still arguing with the thick as a brick lot that think Sagan was an idiot and that they're utterly unchangeable opinion is valid. I think their whole outlook stems from a belief that everyone is as stupid and inflexible as they feel themselves to be. Thinking is just too hard..

  15. I am not too young. What I remember and know, is that Mike Duffy lived in Ottawa for over 30 years and in order to be a senator from PEI he had to get property there. So he bought a cabin. He still lived in Ottawa yet claimed he lived in PEI and got more money. There were several others as well and they got off too. Mac Harb and I cannot remember the other ones. The whole thing was a scam and it would have done too much damage to the senate to prosecute them. They all should have been punished.

  21. Well he overspent based on a residency claim and other nonsense, but it looks pretty quaint after hearing about the Gov General’s in-flight catering bill. These patronages often look like prizes for cronies. Of course when the recipients realize there’s actually accountability and work involved…. Harper wrote a good op ed on the weekend about having a committee for vetting GG candidates. He’s right.

  22. Dude... We aren't going to decommission every power plant in America overnight. We don't need to. Nobody is saying that. Gasoline is very expensive right now. Why? Because Demand is greater than Supply. So... if all increased electrical production shifts to wind and sun, and then wind and sun generate an additional 10 to 15% on top of that, petroleum and coal demand falls. And with lower demand comes lower prices. Get it? Same thing with the cars: If another 15% of the cars on the road are electric, gas prices drop, because demand drops. And carbon emissions drop as well. So if lots of OTHER PEOPLE drive electric cars, your gas prices will fall. But, in any event, there is no practical pathway to stopping all petroleum consumption... there will be jet engines, and legacy engines, and need for lubricants, and military jets, etc., but who is telling you that we stop all petroleum use? Who is telling you that any of these green technology shifts will make your life any worse? Here are two things I know: Wind and solar can make for cheap, abundant electrical power. And that means a better lifestyle for all of us. Second, electric cars can be FASTER than gas-powered cars. Like... much faster. And far more reliable.

  27. It is only political because the oil companies are giving fortunes to Republicans. It doesn’t have to be that way. We had a global crisis because of CFC’s destroying the ozone layer. Thankfully, we didn’t have assholes like Ted Cruz in Congress, and instead, we just solved the problem. No politics. We just did what had to be done, worldwide. Saved the planet… at least, the human habitability part.

  29. You overstate the importance of these figures. There were no equivalents when the ozone problem came up - it was a body of science warning of a problem that needed to be dealt with and the politicians acted. In the age of trolls you need pixies to deal with them. So the Gretas and the Trudeaus and Gores fight with the Monktons and Alex Joneses and people who think THAT is politics debate their points and munch away on their popcorn. Enjoy it. Meanwhile, I will just assume you had nothing to say about my points about the real science off thread. Cheers.

  30. the British people have overthrown Kings without overthrowing monarchy itself that is in fact how the Westminster Parliament of Canada was founded William III deposed James II in a counterrevolutionary war, founding Parliamentary Supremacy the problem in Canada is that if you remove the monarch from the constitution that would make the Prime Minister an all powerful dictator with unchecked legislative & executive authority
    1 point
  31. I don't think the constitution is the problem per se rather it is simply the sorts of people that Canadian society produces now through the education system to the professional managerial class the culture of absurdly conformist cronyism is deeply entrenched in the population itself most Canadians actually seem to desire a Prime Minister to be dictator

  35. Next they should ban school dances because some kids feel bad because they can't dance or get a date, and some poor parents can't afford a shirt and tie. This is the dumb kind of thinking this is. If some kids can't afford Halloween then have a fundraiser to get some cheap costumes for the kids. IMO an annual Halloween costume is just part of the annual cost of having kids. I wore the same costume for multiple years and it hardly cost anything, I made it from stuff around the house, and I wasn't even poor. If you're a religious nutbar and your religion is offended by Halloween then keep your kids home or just get over it and stop being a crazy person.

  37. So I gather most posters know as little about how boards work as they do how politics works. Never been on one to see, never got involved, just 'heard' from someone as ill informed as themselves and as lacking in rational thought. A "Board" is a committee, the people elected to it are called Directors of the Board. Some School Boards refer to them as Trustees, the Chairperson might possibly be referred to as the Director. The person acting as such does not make the decisions, motions are made by the members, voted on by the board and approved if passed. So the headline should read "The School Board" not "The Director of the School Board". And I ask again WTF does the School Board have to do with parades unless it's one sponsored by schools or on school property? I ask again also - WTF does a Halloween parade remotely have to do with Canadian culture? I'm finding that knee jerk reaction to erroneous and inflammatory headlines by the same lot of deplorables that ignores every despicable and criminal act by anyone they consider 'on their side' is getting tiring. The dim milk like perceptions of reality seem to indicate cataracts of the brain is the latest pandemic.

  38. What would be the point of "discussions" if nothing can be changed anyways? Wouldn't it be easier to just admit that a quasi-majority PM can do anything that dictator of North Korea does and be happy?

  40. The Emergencies Act was a joke but there will be no accountability for Trudeau turning our country into Venezuela. He's a sick man who should face consequences but won't because liberal lunatics are so full of hatred and openly mock the fact he froze back accounts and ran over people with horses for daring to not agree with his perverted covid mandates. Only the mentally deranged support Trudeau

  41. Parliamentary Supremacy so long as the Prime Minister holds the confidence of the House, he wields the power of the King if his MP's continue to support him, the Prime Minister is above the law, the monarch for all intents & purposes
