it has become a fairly common practice in the past few years in B.C. to rename anything possible with aboriginal names that cannot be spelled with the normal alphabet and definitely cannot be pronounced by ordinary Canadians. One example is a public school which has been renamed C̓uumaʕas Tsuma-as Elementary School. Loon Lake renamed ʕaʔuk ʔaama k̓anis For example, the town of Greenville became known again as Laxgalts’ap, The name Stawamus is the anglicized version of St’á7mes, which refers to a village site at the base of the mountain. The mountain’s names known as Siy̓ám Smanít to the Squamish, meaning Highly Respected Mountain or Smánit tl’a St’á7mes (Mountain of St’á7mes). These changes seem to be totally blind to the real world. Who can even begin to pronounce these bizarre spellings? They don't meet any kind of rule of grammar or rational thinking. They are useless because nobody can pronounce them. It is extremely doubtful there is any aboriginal who could even pronounce such a name. They seem to add strange shaped symbols to the spelling which are not even a part of the alphabet. They do not meet any rules of grammar or pronunciation. So what is the reason for all these changes in place names? Perhaps it is all part of the pushback against the colonials for being here. Perhaps part of an effort to claim vast areas of land that never even occupied to begin with and demand endless compensation from non-natives for even being here.1 point

Naive. Do you actually think these mercenaries wouldn't be in Ukraine without US funding? Talk to any American serviceman and they will tell you that the State Department is funding the American mercenaries in Ukraine. They just don't do it directly.1 point

Oh boy. For decades (since 1977 when the NRA invented a novel reading of the 2nd amendment that proposed an individual right to bear arms) conservatives have been saying that the whole point of gun nuttery is for the people to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. But now that Don Lemon said it they're going to twist themselves up trying to figure out where they stand now.1 point

Ho. Ly. Crap. Did you not read that naked link you posted? Or do you actually think that private citizens operating as paid mercenaries in foreign conflicts means that "we" the United States, are "in" wars? Seems preposterous that a person would think that. The generous interpretation is that you didn't read it. The more likely explanation is that you didn't care that it was a lie.1 point

Why? Because i do not go along with your leftwing lieberal Marxist bullshit and lies? The nonsense you peddle here says and shows to me that i am the well educated one here and not you, dummy. I think that you should be the one that stays indoors because you appear to be an uneducated buffoon who probably hurts yourself every time you go out. Just saying. LOLOLOL.1 point

I can think of no example in history where victims of a genocide have the ability to stop the genocide. From the beginning, Israel was clear: return the hostages and disarm, then the war will end.1 point

The "a-hole bigots" are the leftists - they're also fascists. They're the ones trying to cull the whites, and brown our towns. You cultists have nothing to stand on - EVER.1 point

Another Liberal party recession is upon us - aided by Trump. The EDC points out that beyond this year’s poor GDP numbers, in the medium-term Canada will continue to be held back by low productivity, which is the result of lagging investment. C.D. Howe Institute economists noted recently in FP Comment that in Q2 2025, machinery and equipment investment per worker in Canada was less than one-third of what it was in the U.S., and new investment “is falling short of depreciation and population growth, so the stock per worker is falling.” A decade of bad tax policy, expanding regulation, and unchecked government spending will do that. https://archive.is/q7L1P1 point

Now if only they had a real leader. Oct 2nd According to a new study by the Angus Reid Institute, Prime Minister Mark Carney leads Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre in net favourability by 32 points. Net favourability of Carney sits at +9%, significantly higher than that of Poilievre (-23%). Peepee is a drag on the party and if they have any sense at all they will replace him, SOON! Now he's attacking the RCMP. This guy has no political intuition at all. PeePee will never be Pee-em!1 point

Look at the three candidates in the debate. Two, really. Mamdani is young, charismatic and full of ideas whereas Cuomo is looking at his notes and would love to phone the donors to find out what ideas he should have this week. This is all about Mamdani. I’m sceptical of his plans but he dominates the conversation. As Trump does. It’s theatre and a product of giving a voice to those who feel they've been shut out. What he makes clear is that youth is an important quality in and of itself. In the Senate the Dems need to replace Schumer with someone closer to Mamdani’s vintage pronto, a person with an actual stake in the future who can tell jokes without making everybody around him cringe. I’m afraid, dear readers of this forum, that more ageism is urgently needed in such matters - 65 should be the cut-off for any major post. America is way too tolerant of political geezers and suffers the consequences. Many developing countries are in that boat too but the US should know better. Lastly, bear in mind that this is a municipal election. The winner will have no influence on foreign policy. New Yorkers are wise to the malarkey from Cuomo and his billionaire backers about that.1 point

Canada should do what Singapore has been doing for decades. If someone is caught bringing in illegal drugs into Singapore, they get the death penalty by hanging. It does not always stop some fools from trying, but if they caught they know the rules and it is game over for them and their bringing in anymore illegal drugs. Works for me. 😁1 point

Wow? You keep saying stupid things yourself here all the time. No Canadian was ever asked if Canada should become a bilingual country. Bilingualism was forced on English Canada by that old man french Marxist Turdeau. The Turd also gave us multiculturalism and metric and massive 3rd world invasion which no Canadian ever asked for. Those alone have destroyed this once great English speaking country and turned into a multicultural non-white hell hole. I think that the best part of you dripped down your old mans leg. Just saying. 🤪1 point

It was already discussed here and I posted some good links back then. Because the BC's and Federal Governments are giving money to those who claim they restore indigenous languages and culture. Your tax money is responsible for all these weird changes you see. It is cancer to the culture and language.1 point

Dude the substance was dog poop IT would be the worst thing they can do. THe US is already a dumpster fire and it's best days are behind it. It's called independence. Don't make us burn down your white house again. In what way? Britain really hasn't had anything to do with canada or it's governance in about 100 years. America is already failing. You can see the signs the same way you can see the signs of the fall of the roman empire overtime. Every empire dies in the end and it's clear that the US has passed the halfway point We can. And we're fine with that1 point

You're dreaming. Canadians do not see themselves as Americans at all. We are totally sovereign. Even if some province or provinces separated from the Confederation called Canada, they would remain independent and be Constitutional Monarchies with the King as head of state. We do not have any desire to be part of the American Republic. That is not an option. America is a melting pot system. Canadians do not believe in that system and want nothing to do with it. Canadians lean more to the belief in the rights of individuals, not rule by a dictatorial leader implemented with masked men arresting whoever without warrant or justification.1 point

Between Jan and July of 2025 7,085 Christians were exterminated by Jihadists in Nigeria... not a peep. From 2009 that's over 50,000... and not a peep. If you go back to 2000, the total murdered is over 62,000 and upwards of 3 million have been displaced because of the violence... and not a peep. In total, over 2000 schools and 18,000 churches have been destroyed... not a peep. So far in 2025 an average of 32 Christians have been murdered daily... not a peep. I'm not saying this out of any attempt to deflect or to minimize losses of life anywhere else, just wondering about some peoples definition of genocide. According to the UN convention, genocide occurs when specific acts are committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. That isn't what happened in Gaza, in-fact IDF efforts to limit civilian casualties will (in future) serve as a model for high density operations against population entrenched opposing forces like Hamas. Most credible statistics put the casualty numbers around 67,000 deaths... 20% of that total are generally considered to be Hamas fighters. Hamas was culpable in many of those civilian deaths BTW and their ongoing brutality against the civilian population is likely to become increasingly covered by the media in the absence of combat operations as the peace accord takes hold. Not sure if that is being widely reported yet but I'm willing to bet it will become more apparent as time goes on... I'll also bet that those currently screaming genocide will have as little say about it as they did about the situation in Nigeria... which by intent and execution clearly qualifies as an ongoing genocide.1 point

Locating people in an emergency can be a challenge at the best of times. Why is this always about racism, Hitler, or some minority rights issue? If street signs are written in one of the nation's official languages, all you need to do is shout a couple of names at the dispatcher and then wave at the pretty lights... we'll find you. But.... if you look at the intersecting street signs and see: ポーテージ and メイン it becomes a bit more time consuming and problematic for most people. Big picture now, you play dispatcher.... what province is that intersection in Herb? Here, I'll help ya. And it's not just indecipherable names either, people get rattled and if you have a Maple St, Maple Ave, and Maple Lane in the same town I'd say exactly the same thing for the same reason. Never know though, I may be prejudiced against all 10 species of Maple tree's that grow in Canada... right Herb? How about some "Acer Saccharum" syrup on those pancakes?1 point

The 919 operator doesn't care... this serves as an additional level of complexity during stressful periods when people aren't at their best and response times are dog shi%. If cell phones hadn't been invented it might be OK, but lot's of people don't have hardline phones now so it could be a problem if your dinner guest needs to call you an ambulance at 1525 West ʕaʔuk ʔaama k̓anis Street. Poilievre didn't shy away from saying it. “The prime minister casually said, in the Oval Office today, he bragged, that a half trillion Canadian investment dollars have left here for the United States in the last five years and then promised that a trillion more will leave in the next five years,” said Poilievre. https://www.junonews.com/p/poilievre-carneys-trillion-dollar I don't think there was any promise or lie at all actually, I was just baiting you. But I agree it would be a problem if as you said it was a secret. This time however the promise was according to PPs fevered revelation at least, quite public and there for all to see.1 point

It’s a minority government, they don’t last 4 years most of the time. Carney is lucky if his upcoming budget doesn’t trigger non confidence. 🤣 If you don’t support Pierre you don’t support a prosperous Canada. You support more of the same that has led to Canada’s decline.1 point
