  2. There are lots of peaceful states in South and Central America, but people still head north through Mexico to the US. There are lots of peaceful states in Africa, but people still head north for Europe. And the middle east and places like Pakistan and Bangladesh? They have many peaceful areas. But they still cross the entire Middle East to come to Europe. Their culture and values create the misery they live in. It's why the third world is a shithole. And the more they come to the developed world, the more misery they bring with them because their culture and values of corruption, violence, and religious extremism come with them. It's interesting reading the British papers and media because they have the same problems we do with migrants and crappy laws, with crappy politicians, with housing and healthcare shortages and rising crime. The differences, though, is that their issues are more advanced, and that their government is more open with information. So we can see that massive numbers of newcomers, mostly Muslims, are on welfare and in public housing. That half the sex crimes come from migrants and immigrants, mostly Muslims. What percentage of migrants/refugees, immigrants and foreign workers/student workers commit crimes here? The government will never tell us that. How many sex crimes come from these people? We don't know. How many are on welfare? The government will never tell us that. How many are in public housing? That's not our business. What do I think will keep them out effectively? A rigid refugee and immigration system and detention camps that serve bread and water.

  3. It's really easy, right wingers heads automatically started exploding after a lefty pointed out that cops do in fact have the authority and discretion to pull a car off the road for safety. It wasn't me who drew the analogy between a car and the church - where one's a vehicle for people the other is a vehicle for goofy ideas. I already made it clear pages ago that I'm perfectly happy with letting some asshat make a spectacle of himself and Christianity. By the same token if pig-headed stubborn conservatives want to make a spectacle of themselves by digging in their heels and doubling down on their notion cops can't have your car impounded for safety violations that's okay too.

  5. Just my opinion again but low level hate crimes (as opposed to true genocidal forms of racism, ethnic cleansing and the like) is more about hurt feelings than true hatred. There's a pretty clear difference between the two and it raises a few questions. If punched, why is a black man's nose more valuable than mine? If I don't like him and punch him in the nose it's a hate crime as opposed to common assault. If he does the same in reverse it's simply assault and the value of his nose is artificially inflated as a result. Here's the thing though, since the above example clearly qualifies as physical violence the Herbs of the world might be able to convince me that it's a warranted exception to equality under the law. The same can't be said about hurt feelings invoked by someone else's freedom of expression though (in the absence of inciting violence of course). Weaponizing the law to prevent hurt feelings sets a precedent that those in favour of now could easily come to regret in the future. What if fat, anti Trump, atheist Drag Queens want to sing in a private venue that supports their effort? As long as attendance isn't mandatory I would support the right of Herb and Roboduh to host them. Imagine the screams of Hitler if I changed my mind about that simply because I'm offended by it.

  7. The Liberals continue to lower our national income, prosperity and standard of living. We used to be on par with the United States regarding per capita GDP when Trudeau was elected in 2015. Now we’re 60%. It’s so sad what the Liberals have done to this country.

  12. Actually, it reminds me what used to happen with temperature adjustments in climate science: When satellite readings were adjusted downwards, the climate deniers would say that the scientists got "caught". When satellite readings were adjusted upwards, the climate deniers would say the scientists were cheating by raising the temperature readings. Statistical adjustments, seasonal adjustments etc. Have to happen as part of the process. You have to trust that the people in the job are being professional. Of course I don't trust that Trump will put an objective person in, but then I become part of the problem too at that point.

  15. They are clearly defined and not subject to a leader who decides them personally by the stroke of his pen. But as you can see we have active collaborators that would like it that way. Fortunately also a Parliament not totally consisting of those and media not cowardly and beholden to such a leader.

  16. The convicted criminals you mean? Nope they broke the law and they were deported. They got all the due process they were entitled to None of those rights you mentioned are particularly rights. Sorry. I know you feel that people should be allowed to commit crimes without consequence. But that's just not the way it is. These are actual criminals and they were deported as they should have been. The fact that other countries treat them badly is of no interest. We can't be responsible for the actions of other countries. It's really not complicated, if you come into the country and commit crimes they may make you leave. And that made turn out to be very inconvenient for you. So don't do that. But I love that you've gone from defending people who you say aren't criminals other than they broke the law to come into the country and are now suggesting that actual convicted criminals should be given a free pass as well. No mercy for criminals! Don't commit crimes, how hard is that?

  21. 1. Doesn't matter. I don't think a federal government has to make this an emergency as they have done, effectively. 2. Simple mindedness might not be the problem. But Trump definitely is stoking, mistrust in institutions, and is a disunifying force. Yes, panic. As evidence, the political economy is at a precipice and here you are responding with a long posts about trans ladies in sports. I think the sporting authorities can sort it out on their own.

  22. It's not trans kids in sports, they are grown men in women's sports, no one is melting down over pronouns, disingenuous you are. Also bringing the Trump into the conversation is a just a lame attempt to garner sympathy from the simple minded.

  23. I don't think you do either. When Jordan annexed the West Bank and made it part of Jordan, there was no big protest or fight from the locals. There were no terrorist incidents. The people in that region couldn't care less. They thought of themselves as Arabs, not Palestinians or Jordanians or whatever. What did it matter which dictator or king ruled over them? LIkewise, the locals didn't fight Egypt when it took control of Gaza. But Jews... that's more than they could stomach. Being under Jews? No way. They could be under any vicious dictator imaginable, but not under Jews. And that's why the endless fight against Israel. Not because they took anyone's land away, but because they're Jews.

  24. I agree. I think all of it is the effect of the affluent and influential class having their concerns listened to over bread and butter issues. That includes the panic over trans kids in sports, people melting down over pronouns etc. The President of the USA is using this petty sh!t to justify his single-minded mission to impose his crackpot theories in the world. Ps. If you have trans friends, as I do, and you misgender them the reaction is less than if you accidentally bumped their elbow... Grown ups please focus on the economy, environment and unity. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Meanwhile the Church where he performed was smokebombed and then fined. That should be the real story here. Not Nasty MAGA Singer Comes to Corrupt Canada.

  27. I'm having trouble following the logic here. Traffic rules don't exalt nation, race, correct thinking or anything else above the individual or rights of the individual. They're prescribed by regulation for the safe and orderly flow of traffic regardless of the colour of vehicle, or religious / political persuasion of the driver. If white cars were deemed to be racist and perfectly safe automobiles (driven by compliant drivers) were being forcibly removed from road by direction of an autocratic government it might be different. If all of this got stood on its head and the singer in question was devoutly atheist and decidedly anti Trump would you defend his right to perform if his venues were being restricted by those you deem to be MAGATs? If every city council of MAGATs were to weaponize the permit system against him would that be OK? It just seems that you're defending the very actions you (logically) wouldn't want to see applied to yourself in equal and opposite measure at some later date.

  32. No, look how united Canadians are right now. Stephen Harper is one if Carney’s advisers. Poilievre is propping up Liberals in parliament. Canadians aren’t rioting in the streets or sacking the Capitol like Americans are. Quebec separatism is all but dead and Alberta separatism is just American batshit that’s flowed north to the crazy fringe.

It has been done before, Treebeard. So, as the resident self-proclaimed expert on Palestinian immigration, why don't you tell us what happens when you bring in a bunch of them? Use some examples. This will be fun, and illuminating, for you especially.

  38. In addition to the damage that Trudeau did, which came with a pricetag on it (the cancellation of $135B in investments that were shovel-ready), there was an incalculable amount of investment that was unrealized due to the hostile business climate here. That's what's referenced here... Companies that aren't even considering Canada, despite our vast oil deposits, due to our adversarial governments.

  41. Right, right,..... Because they never talked about it before then LOLOLOL That's true, chances are if they got a vote they would be looking at changing their deal with Canada much the way that Quebec wanted to with sovereignty association. However what would also most likely happen is Saskatchewan would follow their lead and now there would be two provinces that were thinking about being their own country we're having a completely different relationship. BC would take one look at that and realize that they would be Cut off from Canada and probably consider going in the same direction as those two. It becomes a domino show. And of course get back would not want to be left out. They certainly couldn't let alberta whom they hate the most get what they have been trying for all these years. So however Alberta renegotiated things would become the new Baseline for Quebec separation Negotiations. Canada would break apart. And perhaps it should, the interests of the west have never been the interests of the east. So you may very well get what you wanted. There you go!

  44. False. quote In 2022 America’s 10.9 million undocumented immigrants paid $96.7 billion in taxes. That included $19.5 billion in federal income taxes and $32.3 billion in federal payroll taxes. On a state and local level, undocumented immigrants contribute $37.3 billion in taxes, and in 40 of 50 states, they pay a higher effective state/local tax rate than the top 1% of households. The top 1% of highest-income households paid an average effective state/local tax of 7.2% in 2023, while the average undocumented immigrant paid a 10.1% effective tax rate to state/local governments. It is estimated that $40 to $137 billion of additional revenue could be generated each year if these people were granted work authorization. This is because a less exploitable workforce would be paid higher wages (thus pay more taxes) and tax compliance by both employers and employees would increase. Undocumented Immigrants paid an effective federal income tax rate of 5.27% in 2022, which was higher than some of the wealthiest Americans and mega corporations. According to ProPublica’s released tax data from the 400 highest-income individuals, undocumented immigrants paid a higher effective tax rate than five of the richest Americans. Undocumented immigrants also paid a higher effective tax rate than 55 mega corporations. Here is a list of the Fortune 500 corporations that paid less that same year. These corporations had a combined pre-tax income of nearly $200 billion but paid just $3.7 billion in federal income tax, 90% less than undocumented immigrants. Undocumented Immigrants make significant contributions to our economy. Undocumented Immigrants make up around 5% of the total workforce, but play even larger roles in key industries: 1-in-7 construction workers, 1-in-8 agriculture workers, and 1-in-14 hospital workers. Deporting millions of undocumented workers would shrink the economy by $1.1 to $1.7 trillion, a more devastating contraction than what happened during the 2008 financial crisis. unquote How Undocumented Immigrants Contribute to Our Economy & Pay Higher Tax Rates Than Many Major Corporations - Americans For Tax Fairness
