I listened to Carney just now and I have to admit that as a leader he stands levels, in my estimate seven or eight above Poilievre.2 points

Drink some bleach and shine a flashlight up your ass. Yeah, proportionate. The US has 10 times the population of Canada, which lost about 60,000 to Covid. So the US should have lost about 600,000. Instead they lost 1,200,000, 20 times as much. Thank Trump for that.2 points

The worst part is the Liberals still have numbers at all. It tells you how incredibly stupid some Canadians are. When you have 8 ridings in the Capital and 7 of them are Liberals, that tells you how many useless overpaid and underworked government workers there are afraid of losing their jobs. Liberals = let me hold my hand out for free this and free that.2 points

I still think PP will win a Majority. Just not as big. Once the guns are turned towards carney, all his dirt and he has lots of it, will come out. A lot of libs jumped to the cons, now they have slid back. But once they see that carney is just a extension of Trudeau's policies or even worse, they may switch again. Now you have all these MPs saying carney is the only one to clean up the mess that we they made. I can't see the voters falling for that. Now McKinnon just said Carney saved Canada in 2008. Talk about stealing a Deadman legacy.1 point

Sure he did. He repeatedly told people to get vaccinated. I can spam the forum with headlines like these: Trump tells Republican supporters to get vaccinated https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-56424614 "Former US President Donald Trump has urged his Republican supporters to be vaccinated against Covid-19, saying he would recommend it."1 point

Canada is getting its rightful comeuppance now, particularly when Canadians realize that decades of deliberately dismantling the military, cannot be undone in short order, never mind that what is left of the Canadian military is totally reliant upon the Pentagon for logistics, Karma is a b!tch1 point

I've taken a quite a bit of heart at the way Canadians are uniting in the face of the Orange One these days. It tells me we don't really need leaders to follow - we just naturally know the difference between right and wrong, good and bad, shit from Shinola and what to do. Look how many apparently hard-boiled right wingers who, up until recently, were fairly comfortable with Trump, mostly it seems because he represented the sharp end of some anti-woke stick it to the left/libbies backlash taking place around the world. Woke is as old as the carbon tax is already but don't try to tell PP that. He seems to be campaigning in reverse - driving with his gaze fixed on the rear view mirror.1 point

Makes you wonder but if Trump makes good on screwing our auto industry there would be no point in keeping 100% tariffs on Chinese EV's.1 point

Nope pretty much shows that canadians could not see leadership if it beat them in the ass, he had great hair and socks, and might even been able to teach a drama class...the bar was set pretty low...and his replacement not much better except this guy thinks he knows our economy...he certainly knows how to bullsh!t...1 point

Exactly what I wonder when all you ever do is run away. Meanwhile, COVID really is a nothing burger if you believe the multiplying drug war rhetoric of potential deaths your country attributes to fentanyl - to justify a declaration of economic war on the world over it no less. And it's true, China is definitely responsible for a lot more fentanyl coming into your country than COVID. Not to mention the amount of effort your country has put into blaming Fauci et al would definitely be an issue China would raise. If you're not careful you'll be the ones held responsible for causing the pandemic. Half your countrymen already believe it FFS.1 point

Mark Carney’s greatest skill appears to be his remarkable ability to find a soft landing when things get complicated. His most recent exit was on Jan. 15 from GFANZ, an organization he founded and co-chaired which is now being investigated by the U.S. House Judiciary Committee for allegedly violating antitrust laws by pressuring companies to adopt net-zero goals. Whatever political motivations may be behind this probe, it indicates a major decline in popularity for the kind of climate-focused agenda Carney had been pushing. https://www.npr.org/2024/07/08/nx-s1-5033234/columbia-deans-texts-antisemitic-jewish-students-protests Three deans at Columbia University have lost their jobs over what the university is calling disturbing texts that “touched on ancient antisemitic tropes.” Columbia says the three individuals are on indefinite leave, and will not return to their prior positions. The three were texting each other during a panel discussion on Jewish life on campus last May, mocking and disparaging students’ complaints of antisemitism. The texts were recently released by a congressional committee investigating antisemitism at Columbia, and were first reported by The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website. Susan Chang-Kim, formerly the vice dean and chief administrative officer of the undergraduate school Columbia College, was dismissive of the students’ complaints, texting that it “comes from such a place of privilege… hard to hear the woe is me.” Cristen Kromm, formerly the dean of undergraduate student life, texted vomiting emojis and wrote, “Amazing what $$$$ can do.” Matthew Patashnick, formerly the associate dean for student and family support, suggested Jews on campus were just trying “to take full advantage of this moment. Huge fundraising potential.” The above was from NPR so will a certain someone respond with NPR LIES?1 point

Sure he can. It's called a breach of contract. If the school is not adhering to specific requirements of their contract, in this case allowing raging anti semites to take over parts of the campus and intimidate Jewish students, then they can pause or remove funding for contract breaches.1 point

Well the Toronto through Peterborough route rather than along the lakeshore creates a passenger-only route where it’s easier to create track allowing for high speeds and freeing of the freight lines to the south. It also means that Ottawa is on the line instead of Kingston. Really the critical HSR is Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal. Everything else can be expanded over time. If I knew I could hop on a train after work on a Friday and be in my hotel room in Montreal by 9pm, I would start thinking about investing in Quebec and really embracing the culture there. I could see Quebecers doing the same in Ontario. It helps end the Two Solitude regionalism problem for Canada, which sometimes feels like a bunch of countries loosely connected. The CPR made Confederation possible because the railway made it possible to settle the West. The Trans-Canada Highway and St. Lawrence Seaway have played similar roles for nation building. Right now I tend to go to Cleveland or Pittsburgh for weekend getaways and Trader Joe’s runs, mainly because I know Ottawa is a 5 hour drive I don’t want to do for just a weekend. Montreal is even farther. In fact, I often choose New York City over Montreal because I figure, if I’m going to make a big drive for a long weekend, what’s another 90 minutes on top of the 6 hour drive to Montreal if I can go to a bigger city with more options. A 3 hour train ride to Montreal changes everything. It gives Canadians more Canadian travel options. It only works if we do it right and go for a truly high speed option. If it’s 4 or more hours Toronto to Montreal, that won’t inspire much change in behaviour.1 point

unless you are going to purchase Ship Submersible Nuclear Fast Attack Submarines from the British or French, it's all for nought, as the strategic threat is in fact blockade at sea, the French production line is fully engaged with building the Suffren class, so it's only BAE Systems at Barrow-in-Furness which is available, just completing the last Astute class now Canada has the money, and I can't see the UK turning down a twenty billion dollar contract, if I was advising Marc Carney, I would say go big or go home, fly to London, enlist HM into the fight, then sign the deal with Keir Starmer to buy the submarines, the Liberals are invoking war for national survival ; no half measures then, go all the way if they are just going to dick around with a base at Iqaluit or whatever, then they are not actually serious1 point

Let me remind you of the liberal position when he went and talked to somebody in the truckers convoy. For now it is absolutely inappropriate for him to go talking to the Americans other than at a very low level while the negotiations are going on. Talking with some senators or governors might be appropriate but that would be about it and even that would be slightly questionable. Premiers have a direct trade relationship with the united states for their provinces and usually direct existing lines of communication with neighboring states and governors. But it absolutely would be inappropriate right now for another federal leader to be seen to be entering into negotiations. I don't see anyone recommending the jag meet sing for example go down and talk to any of trump's people. The chances of something bad happening go up exponentially when that kind of thing happens1 point

Right but if a Russian asset did everything a Russian asset would do, everyone would know he is a Russian asset. A really smart Russian asset would not say everything a Russian asset would say or do everything a Russian asset would do. So, Trump could still be one. Now, I have heard that Russian assets float when thrown in the water.1 point

He’s been successful in weakening and dividing the west, strengthening Russia, and helping them win in Ukraine. And in getting his party to go along with it. Which is exactly what a Russian asset would set out to do. Oh and his tariffs if successful will damage and weaken USA also which is also what Russia wants.1 point

Just because you have no connection to Russia doesn't mean you aren't an asset. Just about everything you post on this subject makes you one whether you know it or not.1 point

Good. Good. Wrongo, liar. Zelensky stood in the oval office pretending that the US never did enough for Ukraine, and that was completely disrespectful and untrue on his part, so Trump and Vance put him in his place. FYI it's not an ambush if you smack someone down after they assault you. That's true for verbal and physical assaults. Bill Clinton said Putin's word was good in as many words. NATO is the liar in this situation. Our assertions that NATO would never move east past Germans were garbage. FYI you can't rip up a deal, and then keep expecting the other person to live up to their end. He wants to treat Russia like someone who just won a war. Wanna take a guess why? Wanna guess how many more lives would have to be lost to reclaim all the land Russia acquired? Care to tell me how many other people's lives is that worth to you? How many of your own family's lives is that worth to you? Trump has bailed on this proxy war. Good for him.1 point

He suspended aid to Ukraine! He voted against them at the UN! He ambushed Zelenskyy in the Oval Office! He says Putin’s word is good! He wants to give Russia everything it wants! Trump has bailed on the western world and democracy and if you don’t see that you are blind.1 point

Look, Trump aligns with Russia's vision. Even the Kremlin says so. Trump is the gift that keeps on giving - to Russia. “The new administration is rapidly changing all foreign policy configurations,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, state television reported Sunday. “This largely aligns with our vision.” Former president Dmitry Medvedev gloated over the “proper slap down” of “the insolent pig” Zelensky, and Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova marveled at Trump and Vance’s “restraint” in not punching him in the face. Zelensky’s “outrageously boorish behavior,” she wrote, “confirmed that he is the most dangerous threat to the world community.” The meeting fit Russia’s narrative perfectly, Konstantin Remchukov, the well-connected editor of Nezavisimaya Gazeta, told The Washington Post. “We don’t even have to step in — we can just retransmit what the Americans are saying,” Remchukov said.1 point

Look, your boy is with Russia now. The evidence is all around, if you open your eyes. Lol!!1 point

He has publicly berated Zelensky and has cut off all aid and intelligence to Ukraine. That is not the action of a mediator, it is a bully trying to impose his will by intentionally weakening one side and putting it's citizens in danger, which also happens to be Putin's.1 point

Trump takes Russia’s side (e.g. the UN vote) and spreads their propaganda. He’s been an asset since the 1980s, when he became a target of a KGB spying operation. In 1987, he traveled to Moscow, where he was fed KGB talking points and flattered. An ex-major involved in the operation recalled: After that trip, Trump came home and spread skepticism about NATO, even taking out full-page ads in the New York Times, Washington Post, and Boston Globe “on why America should stop paying to defend countries that can afford to defend themselves.” Look, if you can’t see that Trump wants to be Putin, your understanding is very shallow. Oh, you simple, simple mind....1 point

Trump does want to end this war and his idea of peace is to give Putin everything he wants. Ukraine isn't eve invited to the table. As I said, any fvcking id!ot can come up with that and all it will do is lead to another war, probably the invasion of one or more of the Baltic states because Putin knows the US can no longer be relied on to honour NATO Article 5. Trump isn't acting as a mediator, he is acting as Putin's flunky.1 point

This is nonsense. Trump's pandemic response was proportionate and within the rule of law. Unlike Biden and democrats who had multiple orders slapped down in the courts due to violating the law.1 point
