  4. Trump and Vance struck me as very crude and rude. No diplomacy at all. It was a staged ambush with the media invited in. That is not the way to find peace and solve world problems. It is very uncivilized and barbaric behavior. Canada has been receiving that kind of insulting rude behavior. The government is wise in that it is keeping a low profile. Canadians realize you don't try to argue with a mad man.

  6. Trump can negotiate whatever he wants, just like he did with Ukraine/Russia in 2019. When a ret4rd like Biden starts monkeying with the levers of power in the WH, and changes all of America's plans and attitudes, along with everyone else's perception of America's strength, everything falls apart like a deck of cards. And that's not Trump's fault. There are a lot of working parts in a successful negotiation, and just pulling one or two parts out disrupts any working mechanism, biological or mechanical. Your car can't run without a _______ (name almost anything there). Your body can't survive without a _______ (name almost anything there).

  7. Weakness in action. Dictators know they just have to hold on a few years and the Americans will tire of the fighting and give in. What did they accomplish in Vietnam? Nothing. They surrendered and the Communists took full control. Same thing in Afghanistan. They also gave up on Iraq. And now they've given up on Ukraine. Where will Putin push next with the 100 brigades he's currently got fighting the Ukrainians? Western Europe can maybe muster three or four. Add Poland and it's maybe a dozen. Ukraine has fifty. And if Russia takes Ukraine then those fifty eventually wind up adding to Russian power while the West goes to sleep again and the Americans tear themselves apart over pronouns and gender arguments (in no small part incited by Russian and Chinese propaganda and paid bots).

  12. Liberals are professional liars and they can never be trusted with anything they say. The CBC should be abolished along with the liberal party. Those two only exist to keep the lies flowing and keep the theft going of taxpayer's tax dollars and incompetence alive. Carney is just another WEF globalist shill who says or does what Klaus or Fink tells him to say. Canada is being held prisoner by the WEF globalists thanks in part to our dear political leaders. This is why we must get the conservative party to win the next election. Otherwise, it will be the WEF globalist woke and broke agenda for Canada if any of those liberal buffoons running for the liberal leadership. We only have one shot left to save Canada from the WEF. Just saying.

  16. Pierre barely has to change it all. Sure he was playing the whole carbon tax election thing which I said at the time was kind of stupid because it boxes you in but if you listen to any of his speeches from last year and then listen to the one he gave on flag day his message is basically identical and always has been. A year and a half ago he was calling for the need to move our economy away from being reliant on America's. A year and a half ago he was talking about the need to deal with crime and drug issues. A year and a half ago he was talking about our military and the need to bring it back to life. He's been talking about our competitiveness and GDP per capita ratio for years now All the things that are suddenly exciting to the liberals he's been talking about. he really doesn't need to change his messaging one little bit, his slogan might change but that's about it the rest of it was perfect as it was

  17. One of the narratives I see from the CBC lately (and others) that I find kind of comical is this one about how Pierre Poilievre is pivoting on his message. It's very ironic, because even though Pierre has to change campaign tactics somewhat, it's quite literally the Liberals who are doing the full 180s on policies themselves. Why is it a news story that Pierre Poilievre might have to change messaging from this simply being a carbon tax election when it is the Liberals who have actually changed (or are pretending to change) their position on it?

  18. The only emotion is dismay that an actual person could say out loud that Trump is trying to appear "unbiased" to negotiate a better peace, when he factually takes every opportunity to display his pro-Putin bias. Zelensky is the dictator, not Putin. Ukraine started the war, not Putin's invasion. The shameful vote at the UN siding with Putin. He's not playing 7D chess. He's just Putin's biotch And the Russian money is not a rumor. The Trump family boasts about it. Why do you feel compelled to cover for these traitorous grifters? Vanity Fair ...it wouldn’t be the first time that the Trumps have been connected to Russian money. A number of reports have indicated the Trump Organization received substantial financing from Russia when the business was struggling in the mid 1990s and again during the Great Recession, since major U.S. banks had refused to loan money to him. Most recently, Reuters reported that a group of 63 Russia billionaires have invested nearly $100 million in several Trump properties in Florida. Donald Trump Jr. himself famously said in 2008 that “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”

  19. You are being way to emotional about this. You need to think in terms of net positive and net negative. That needs to be coupled with what is realistic and what isn't realistic. It is a net positive to end the fighting in Ukraine and net negative to escalate or maintain the status quo. It is realistic to expect that the old borders are gone and new borders will be in place. You are talking about the rumor, spread by a sports reporter for the time frame before more than three years before Trump announced he was running for office. It was investigated by Mueller and no connections were found.

  20. The CBC has always been a little left leaning but in the last 15 to 20 years or so it has become progressively (ha!) worse. For me I think it really culminated with their attack on Daniel Smith during that election. They plastered their papers with stories how an unnamed source said she broke the law with an email absolutely guaranteed no chance of an error, the government looked into it and hired a third party to verify that it never happened, they came back and said it never happened, and the CBC still dug him and insisted it was absolutely true and she was guilty of a criminal offense without providing a source . Then when the election was over they admitted that the whole thing had been made up, they've never seen an email or had any reason to believe it existed and still refused to name this alleged source that was beyond question. They apologized for their misconduct but the election was over. In short they absolutely lied in order to try and keep a conservative out of power in Alberta because that's what they wanted. And they knew they could get away with it. There is no recovering from that kind of thing. If it was a one-off we could dismiss it as being a couple of rogue journalists and a sorry lack of attention from their editor but there are dozens and dozens of other examples. And that doesn't include the omissions, stories about the liberals that either get no airtime or grossly reduced airtime because they don't flatter their party of choice

  22. No. The war in Ukraine is because Putin does not want democracies on his border. Phony ones he can control are okay, but not real ones looking Westward. And because he believes Ukraine is a part of Russia and they should be together again as they were in the Soviet Union. Putin doesn't give a shit about NATO. He knows NATO is toothless and couldn't agree to invade him in a million years. And it's not like I'm inferring this. He's said so.

  23. It’s because your own sensibility is in line with similar ideas. Mine used to be too until about 5 years ago when it became too obvious to ignore just how biased mainstream media has become. The CBC leads the charge. The Globe is no longer a Conservative paper. The National Post is about all we have left for a truly critical mainstream voice, largely thanks to the bravery of Conrad Black, who has taken a ton of criticism over the years.

  24. I wonder though if Canadians are willing to buy into the delusion that the Liberals are continuing to sell, which is that Canada can ignore basic economic realities like the impact of growing debt and public spending, ignore the defence of the country, slam the country’s once-proud history, and juice the growth numbers by using mass immigration to create the appearance of growth as actual per person GDP falls. The Liberals keep repackaging the same irresponsible plan, yet somehow enough Canadians are willing to buy the lie if the messenger does a flashy enough sell job. That’s how I see what’s happening with Carney. He is another elitist insider who has been supporting the current Liberal government’s agenda for years. Poilievre isn’t flashy and he isn’t part of the global corporate inner circle. Yes he’s been an MP a long time, but he never had a key cabinet position in Conservative government. He’s less of an insider in some ways than Trump, who has gamed media and real estate branding for decades. Poilievre’s challenge is that he’s telling the true, important story that many Canadians don’t want to hear because it requires abandoning their delusion that Canada can continue to overspend, over govern, and ignore the defence of the country, both militarily and culturally. I think we may have to wait through more years of foolish policy following this deluded model before Canadians finally realize what a paper tiger or white elephant the country has become. It’s exactly this delusion which has made us more vulnerable to foreign influence than ever before. Continuing down the path of this delusion will eventually reduce the number of options before us, because we won’t be bargaining on trade from a position of strength. We’ll have fewer resources to defend Canadian sovereignty. The Liberals are essentially trying to repackage themselves as the Conservatives but with a better known international name as the front man, the same guy who has been flogging the Trudeau delusional model. He might actually get away with it. Trump is unfortunately encouraging this delusion to persist by not really mentioning or criticizing Carney. I think it’s a big mistake for MAGA because if Trump’s plan is to squeeze Canada financially until it screams uncle and joins the U.S., he will have a Democrat electorate to absorb. Instead, he should accept that Canada isn’t ready or willing to join the U.S. in the near future, using economic force against Canada will only breed contempt for his movement, and there’s a much wiser path that’s beneficial to both countries if Canada takes a conservative turn, gets its finances, defence, and cultural narrative in order, and forges an economic union with the U.S. that grants the benefits that the citizens of both countries want: unfettered access to both markets and freedom of employment and residence in both countries. Really at that point the U.S. has unlimited access to Canada without having to absorb it politically. Canada gets unlimited access to the US without having to abdicate its sovereignty and control over federal policy. The Conservatives can move the country towards more responsible government and strengthening the country so that we have more credibility and independence to fall back on in negotiations on trade and arrangements with the U.S. The Conservatives actually believe in Canada’s cultural legacy. The Liberals slam Canada publicly while claiming to stand up for it. All Trudeau can say about what makes Canada unique is that we’re not American. Why? Because he’s denigrated our history and emphasized a UN Chicom “Post National State.” The idea that Carney is a radical departure from the party he advised is a stretch and a big gamble for Canadians.

  31. The Conservatives did accuse Carney of lying, that wasn't made up. Because the share holders vote was delayed till after he left what he said may be technically true but the fact is, the board of directors, which he was head, had unanimously approved the move. To say he wasn't involved in the move was less than honest is an understatement. For me, the move of the company office is less important than the lack of honesty coming from someone who will likely be our prime minister, even for a short time.

  33. I do not trust most Canadians in the next election. They are just stupid enough to vote the liberals back in power. This is what happens when so many Canadians do not pay attention to what is going on in their country. The only time they get involved in politics is at election time, and they like to pretend that they know everything there is to know about politics. After the election is over, they go back to bed. See you in 5 years. All we have ever gotten from the French socialist liberals from Quebec is lies, bullshit, corruption and incompetence. They have destroyed what should have become the most wealthiest and prosperous country on earth. We should be all filthy rich, but instead, we are now woke and broke. 34. That seems to be par for the course in NA lately. When Trudeau's not embroiled in scandals, or denigrating Canadians for fake hijab hoaxes, paying off terrorists, bringing terrorists to state dinners in foreign countries, calling Canadians "racists and misogynists" just for not vaxing, calling the Japanese PM Chinese, forcing young people to take a jab that they don't need and then ignoring the side-effects, offering Canadians death instead of caring, or getting shuffled off to the kiddie table, Biden is talking to drapes, falling up stairs, falling off bikes, making up words like "nexelsrent" and forgetting how to speak English, smooching little kids on the mouth, etc. From the inside I think we still feel pretty cool, but the world has been laughing at us a lot over the past 5 years. By your own argument, he's still "running the country".

  35. Pretty much many things are done in Quebec. Why has Montreal always have to get the debates in a province that wants to separate from Canada. Why not have the English debate in Toronto or Vancouver? What the hell is wrong with our English politicians anyway? Lack guts to say something? It has always been about French Quebec. Ever since the socialist liberals from Quebec took power after old man Turdeau won the election in 1980, this was when the French began the take over Canada, and they have been running and ruining Canada ever since. We truly have been led by French socialist Quebec alright. And all we got from the French since then is French left wing liberal corruption and incompetence. I really have to blame it all on our English speaking cowardly politicians who allowed it to happen. They were and still are the real culprits in this take over of Canada by the French.

  37. Zelensky Walked Into a Trap Donald Trump and J. D. Vanceappear to have entered today’s Oval Office meeting with the goal of generating a pretext for a diplomatic break with Ukraine. By Jonathan Chait Of the many bizarre and uncomfortable moments during today’s Oval Office meeting between Donald Trump, J. D. Vance, and Volodymyr Zelensky—during which Trump finally shattered the American alliance with Ukraine—one was particularly revealing: What, a reporter asked, would happen if the cease-fire Trump is trying to negotiate were to be violated by Russia? “What if anything? What if a bomb drops on your head right now?” Trump spat back, as if Russia violating a neighbor’s sovereignty were the wildest and most unlikely possibility, rather than a frequently recurring event. ….He was not explaining why a deal with Russia would advance America’s interests, or why honoring it would advance Russia’s. He was defending Russia’s integrity by vouching for Putin’s character. … Trump and Vance appear to have entered the meeting with the intention of berating Zelensky and drawing him into an argument as a pretext for the diplomatic break. Why should anyone have expected anything different? Trump has been regurgitating Russian propaganda, not only regarding Ukraine, since before Zelensky even assumed office. He defended Russia’s seizure of Crimea in 2018 (the year preceding Zelensky’s election), has repeatedly refused to acknowledge Russian guilt for various murders, and has even stuck to Russian talking points on such idiosyncratic topics as the Soviets’ supposedly defensive rationale for invading Afghanistan in 1979 and their fear that an “aggressive” Montenegro would attack Russia, dragging NATO into war. In the past few weeks, Trump has made very little effort to conceal his pro-Russian tilt. He called Zelensky a dictator, and when asked if he would say the same about Putin, refused, insisting, “I don’t use those words lightly.” (No president in American history has used words more lightly than Trump.) He said Ukraine “may be Russian someday” and blamed Ukraine for starting the war. The U.S. even joined Russia, North Korea, and a tiny bloc of Russian allies to vote against a United Nations resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. …Even today, Trump’s bullying commenced well before Zelensky had opened his mouth. Trump greeted his counterpart on the White House driveway with condescending mockery, pointing at him and tellingonlookers, “He’s all dressed up today,” like Bill Batts in Goodfellas belittling Joe Pesci’s character. (“Hey, Tommy, all dressed up!”) Zelensky’s attire—the Ukrainian president wears military attire, not a suit, to remind the world that his country is at war—has been a fixation on the right, and conservatives have seized upon it as a pretext to blame him for Trump’s anger. Oddly, they did not seem to mind that Elon Musk showed up at the White House this week in a T-shirt and baseball cap. …. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2025/02/zelensky-trump-putin-ukraine/681883/

Without it, a huge gap in culture, public forum and entertainment would be there. And it simply would not be filled by for-profit business. No one is clamouring to have the CBC removed in the North so they can swoop in and make buckets of money from being a public broadcaster. I suppose if we only care about where the most people live, and national cohesion isn’t important, then getting rid of all things CBC seems like a great idea.
