"Trump only respects leaders who show toughness and can stand up to his bullying. He has little respect for Trudeau, and is unlikely to see either Mark Carney or Chrystia Freeland in a positive light. Some people have criticized Pierre Poilievre as being too much of a bulldog, but isn’t that exactly the quality we need in a leader who has to vigorously fight to defend the threat to our sovereignty and our values?" Harry Rakowski: Poilievre is the bulldog Canada needs to fight Trump Yes, I think PP is just the right man at the right time for Canada.2 points

treachery is violating a solemn oath undertaken of ones own free will yet you will note that no MAGA Republican ever swore an oath to defend nor uphold Ukraine quite the opposite in fact2 points

This would not have to be a forced removal of people from the Gaza. The west would in effect be purchasing the Gaza. This would go a long way to ending the conflict in that area. I don't see any other way to stop the fighting originating in the Gaza strip. 1. It could be done by offering financial incentives. Every Palestinian who moves could be paid a certain amount of money. The money could come from the U.S., Canada, other countries, and the U.N. 2. The money could also involve spending billions of dollars to build apartments, and create jobs in the countries they settle in. 3. It seems Hamas cannot be eliminated in the present situation. However, moving them by offering financial incentive may provide a solution. This would mean it would not be compulsory but would be in effect purchasing the Gaza strip. So far nobody in the news media has mentioned the idea of paying billions of dollars to the Palestinians to make it feasible. Part of the payments would have to be used to build apartments and create jobs. All of the money would not be given to the Palestinians directly. Some money could be paid directly to the ones who actually move. Part of the money would have to be retained and only used for the purpose of building new apartments, infrastructure, creating jobs, and communities in the destination countries. At present Jordan and Egypt oppose moving them to their countries. But the financial benefits have not been negotiated. That is the missing key to this. Perhaps if there was billions of dollars on the table, they would be willing to take in the Palestinians. But there would need to be a way to ensure the money was used only for the relocation and building of the homes, infrastructure, and jobs for the Palestinians. Also, the payments to the ones who relocated would have to be ensured somehow. The money could not be just handed over to the countries they moved into.1 point

It's fate is decided there these days too. If Ukraine falls the question is obvious: who would go next? Truth exists. Freedom is not free: it has to be reaffirmed and defended by the free citizens. Maga lies, always. Be on the side of the truth and what's right: this choice isn't hard. And the future is a choice.1 point

This seems an explanation for why and how Trump was able to exploit those who felt left behind. It does not excuse him, it damns him. He operates best with enemies, and he bequeathed that to his base. What fraud, waste and abuse necessitated shutting done the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau?1 point

They just invented the term "forest fire" in 2013, because the first one ever didn't even happen until after Grand Climate Cyclops Greta's first declaration.1 point

The US Government provided Ukraine security guarantees IN WRITING in the Budapest Memorandum. Russia signed that, too and RENEGED. Now Trump is reneging, also. What you're saying is that Trump has caused the US Government to SINK to Putin's level of DUPLICITY. 🤮 You should go fck yourself.1 point

Ilan Omar. The POS who broke the immigration laws and insists on wearing a towel on her head, thinks Americans are stupid and actually says it for all to hear. My answer to this dumb-ass POS is... 'Would you like a bigger shovel...Dear?'1 point

There’s an old propaganda trick that advertisers and irresponsible journalists use as a way of influencing opinion, damaging reputations, and generally being disingenuous. You suggest that something may have happened, which isn’t a lie technically, since just about anything may have happened. For example, “There was a protest outside the provincial legislature resulting in clashes between protesters and police. It’s possible that terrorists perpetrated the violence.” Yes that’s possible, but note that no evidence was provided to support the idea of terrorist involvement. Your grandmother may also have perpetrated the violence. Many things may have happened.1 point

And yet despite this, despite no evidence being found, academia, as well as professional organizations like the BC Law Society continue to cling to the story of genocide and murdered children. And that is what they teach. Nor will they even consider any challenge to their beliefs. Hell, we had the federal government actually looking into making it a CRIME to deny that there was a great slaughter of native children at these schools. Nor have they recanted. A re-elected Liberal government might well bring in such a law. As Goebbels said, if you tell a big enough lie and repeat it often enough, it becomes true, especially if you put those who disagree in prison.1 point

If it weren't so sad, watching progressive heads explode would be fun. Incredibly though, there's still no thought being given to answering the one question they really need to be asking themselves... "If you're going to be bat sH%$ crazy, WTF did you think was going to happen?" Seems to me that even Bill gets it:1 point

Do you know I remember in the late seventies I believe it was when they made producers take the red food dye out of rat poison products because it was found to cause cancer in rats Some days the government doesn't exactly help its case against being trimmed1 point

LOL with friends like you and your buddy trudeau, who needs trump? I don't know that we need a bulldog exactly. What we need is someone who can be diplomatic and work around problem children which is basically how trump behaves when he's trying to negotiate but Also someone who can be extremely firm and unbending and isn't afraid to hit back when he should and be utterly resolute. America is bigger than us and Trudeau has left us incredibly vunerable, even more than usual. So simply being a 'bulldog' isn't going to get it done. You need to know how to dance around trump and keep him at length while still knowing exactly where to kick him to do the most pain and damage when he charges in. PP is talented, he'll do fine. It's going to be a little painful no matter who it is but he'll keep things to a minimum and make sure we don't get shafted.1 point

Whenever a leftard sees/hears news of a scandal by one of their cult leaders, they do 1 of 2 things: If it takes some effort to prove it, they'll lie, gaslight, deny and say whatabout, while referring to a far lesser crime that a conservative is alleged to have committed If it's a slam-dunk that their cult leader is guilty, they will all ghost the topic, 100%, so that it goes away quicker. They could all come her and whine and lie like they do in all the "Twumpy iz bad" threads, but they'd just be drawing more attention to it, and they want it to go away as fast as possible. They don't like having their cult's scams busted.1 point

Were Republicans 100% pushing Biden to do more? No, a few then more and finally most started balking enough that it put the brakes on Democratic enthusiasm for doing more. I realize how very important this partisan bickering and divisiveness is to Americas domestic political world but you fail to appreciate to outsiders you're just Americans typically acting on ideological whims as opposed to any cogent consistent foreign policy. What do I mean by consistency? If Ronald Reagan could see the GOP today he'd puke.1 point

Musk is removing every restriction and oversight they face from food to finance and you cheer while he does it. Right now the top 1% in the US hold 16 times more wealth than the bottom 50% but you id!ots think Musk is acting in your interests by trashing every oversight and curb on their actions. It really does take a spectacular level of stupidity.1 point

LOL, you are a Canadian? Your arguments here are even dumber than I thought. Go cry to your own government as to why they are not doing more for the Ukrainians, then. You don't like the deal America is proposing? Offer them your own. Send your own military to fight and die in Ukraine. Send them all your military equipment. How old are you? Why do you not go volunteer to fight in Ukraine?1 point

I stop discussing and in fact, all contact if/when the interlocutor chooses to depart from the reality, either by questioning an established fact, or stating or implying as a fact something that never happened. At that point, if and when realities can be made or destroyed on a whim there can be no longer any rational grounds to continue the conversation.1 point

Doesn't shop much that's for sure. I can buy Irish, N Zealand, Norwegian cheese at Costco almost as cheap as noName domestic cheddar at Bloblaws and GougeOn. And sure as hell isn't familiar w American cheese, the popular brands & cheeses are pitiful. You have to hunt down specialty makers and pay as much as you do here. Like I dare you - find an American major brand cheese as good as Armstrong Old Cheddar or Balderson's 2yr old at Costco. And BTW that gooey greasy slime on your pizza is usually a mix of US cheese mixed with their lame excuse for pepperoni to skirt around the import laws.1 point

1. Ah, well.... Maybe 🤔. I'm not going to say that you're outright WRONG but I am pretty sure it would be a long and interesting debate. Also hard to prove because it happened as a result of other civilizing forces. I don't think most experts would assert that point as confidently as you do... 2. From what I've read they're considered to have started with modern maps, The collapse of feudalism, maybe Napoleon or the peace of Westphalia? Again... You are so very confident... Even saying "almost always". 3. And the confederation of states to resolve their issues. That was an additional difference with the USA. And the states fought with each other, even militarily, even other than the great civil war. 4. So being a nationalist in Canada means being pro-english, pro-immigrant, pro-French. 157 years of high-risk failure, during which Germany fell several times, as did France.... I think we're okay But really, I don't think you've thought about what nation means enough, as user intimated...1 point
-
Yeah... Some of the questions seem to contradict some of the other ones. And a nationalist is a different thing depending on which Nation right? Canada? France? Vatican city? Israel? I would say The Nation, as a framework for organizing regional peoples, was Frozen in time after World war II. They wanted to have a monopoly on allowing those things to be created, so they could organize them under a global framework to stop war , and encourage global capitalism and cooperation. So if you're a nationalist, you're primarily buying into that idea... That countries are a good way to organize the world. And you believe in your country, and their part in that puzzle. The nationalism that we know about is about a kind of tribal pride that's wedged into whatever the borders are that you believe in. Is Canada a post-national state? An American branch plant? A multicultural Paradise? A place where pedantic id!ots like me belabor such questions and talk about them to the point that everyone gravitates away from me, and joins other clumps of people talking at the party? Yes to all of these.1 point
