You can’t win with MAGA because they don’t care whether they are wrong or right. They have abandoned truth in favour of the fight. All that matters to them is “getting” the other side. (I’ve seen this attitude in these forums.) That’s why they respond so favourably when Trump posts something hate-inciting like this: Jul 20th 2024 - 10:12:25 PM EST Consider Musk’s recent post below Musk’s claim that these people are collecting social security is so obviously untrue (to anyone with a grain of intelligence, which I assume Musk has) and easily disproved. Simple math with these figures shows that if these payments in the table were being made, Social Security would cost about $1 trillion dollars more a year than it actually does. The numbers just don’t work. So why is Musk lying? And not caring if he does? Because he knows MAGA will respond, without regard to whether it’s true or not. Musk baits MAGA, who will use this as ammunition in their manufactured “fight.” They don’t care if the numbers are wrong - just like they don’t care if Trump is a dictator. The outrage of the “other side” is the goal. (As one MAGA member here said – it’s about freaking them out.) Like Trump, Musk manipulates with lies, and it causes me great concern for the country that many are susceptible to this manipulation.3 points

IMO, all of this has a distinct "why are you surprised" flavour to it especially when all it took to avoid it was not being bat sh%$ crazy. There was no shortage of people (including right here) suggesting that obvious law-fare tactics could easily (even likely) be turned against the very people cheering it on if there was a change in political fortunes. In the world of aviation incident/accident cause factors it's called the "normalization of deviation" and it usually leads to heartache at a systemic level. Almost invariably it gets worse with time, usage and acceptance... I don't think partisan law-fare is going away now and in due course it will once again be Democrats buffing their claws and smiling... after all, they invented it. I remember reading this article some time ago and thinking "ya, wouldn't it be ironic and well deserved if." It took a few minutes to track it down but here ya go FWIW... MSN from about 9 months ago and it begs a pretty simple question: "WTF did you think was going to happen?" https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/opinion-democrats-should-fear-lawfare-tactics-being-turned-against-them/ar-AA1o8MYy2 points

Everyone knows there is virtually no waste or fraud in government spending...right? Nevada Woman Pleads Guilty to Nearly $100 Million COVID-19 Tax Credit Fraud The IRS warned last year that the vast majority of an employment tax credit program it reviewed showed ‘risk of being improper.’ A woman from Nevada involved in defrauding the United States of tens of millions of dollars’ worth of COVID-19 pandemic tax credits has pleaded guilty in the case, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Candies Goode-McCoy of Las Vegas “conspired with others to file tax returns seeking fraudulent refunds based on the employee retention credit (ERC) and paid sick and family leave credit,” the agency said in a Feb. 14 statement. “From around June 2022 through September 2023, McCoy filed approximately 1,227 false tax returns for her businesses and others claiming these refundable credits.” In total, the fraudulent claims sought more than $98 million in refunds, of which the IRS paid out roughly $33 million, according to the DOJ statement. McCoy received more than $1.3 million in these refunds and received about $800,000 in payments from clients for whom she knowingly filed fraudulent returns, according to the statement.2 points

Trump continues to push to make Canada the 51st state using glaringly false economic claims. In the video, he says, “Canada has been bad to us on trade … (they) have to start paying up … $200 billion in subsidies … we don’t need their product … who the hell made these deals, they’re so bad.” Let’s look at his words and find out how they are false. First, he needs to learn the difference between a subsidy and a trade deficit. Trump claims that the bilateral U.S. deficit in merchandise trade with Canada amounts to the U.S. “subsidizing” Canada. This claim has no economic merit whatsoever… Trump’s claim Canada is subsidized by the U.S. through this bilateral deficit is laughable – and Trump’s economic team surely understand that. They are many things (aggressive, corrupt, and untruthful), but they are not ignorant. Rather, they are trying to drown out rational discussion of this issue in a barrage of threats and bluster. Second, the $200 B figure it completely made up. Trump’s claim the bilateral deficit is $200 billion is an utter fabrication. The bilateral deficit was $40 billion (U.S.) in 2023 according to U.S. data, down 29% from 2022. It fell another 9% during the first 9 months of 2024. Compared to a two-way trade flow of almost $1 trillion (U.S.) per year, this imbalance is puny. Third, they do need our product. Just consider the energy sector: Canadian energy (including oil, gas, coal, and electricity) made up 60% of the total bilateral merchandise trade deficit over the last decade. Having access to a secure and lower-cost energy source is a major benefit for U.S. businesses and consumers. (The US enjoys a strong surplus in services trade and investment income flowing out of Canada, but Trump never mentions this.) Fourth – he’s really relying on the short memories of his MAGA base when he comments that “Who the hell made these deals, they’re so bad." It was him! In 2018, and at the time he called it “the best trade deal ever made.” How do you negotiate with a country that so clearly operates in bad faith? Canada Subsidizes the U.S., not the Other Way Around1 point

"Premier Tim Houston's government is using its supermajority in the legislature to give itself the power to fire the auditor general without cause and make reports from the office private. The changes are included in one of two omnibus bills the government tabled on Tuesday, the same day the provincial budget was released. The Government Organization and Administration Act makes a number of changes, including setting out previously announced plans by the Progressive Conservatives to do away with Communications Nova Scotia, the government agency that was required by legislation to produce non-partisan materials for the public. Responsibility for government communications, labour relations, and priorities and planning are now all being pulled under the control of the executive council office, the government entity that supports the premier and cabinet." This is anti-democratic shit needs to be reversed. It's not what he was voted in for.1 point

A liar who fails to admit the lie is a liar squared. And why did you stop your (dumb-) logical progression at the arbitrarily chosen point? Let's continue, shall we? -
You are starting with a lie, why would anyone respecting themselves and valuing their time bother to have a meaningful discussion? Territorial integrity of Ukraine was guaranteed by four guarantor states in exchange for the abandonment of the third largest nuclear arsenal at the time. The borders of Ukraine are recognized by the whole world, except a few most grotesque dictatorships counted on the fingers of one hand (and one has already fallen). Crimea is not the "home" but in one city in Crimea certain territory was leased, with a limited term, to Russia's Black Sea fleet now severely decimated. The summary: you are a liar, unsmart (yes, there's a shorter synonym) at that as it takes just minutes to verify this at anyone's fingertips. Why would anyone bother to waste their time on such a case? Beats me.1 point

And yet nowhere did he say that all of the people on that list are collecting welfare. He never said anything like that. Which was your claim. He said there is widespread fraud. He is also said these numbers show just how out of whack and poorly managed the information systems are. He never said that these are the numbers of people that are committing fraud. So this started off with you just being wrong. Then instead of admitting that you've now tried to double down and are into the point where you just lying your ass off to try and recover some validity. Must never claimed that the numbers you presented are the numbers of people that are committing fraud. He has claimed that there are millions of people out there who are committing welfare fraud in one form or another and I have seen nothing at all that disputes that. In order to try and win what you do and what the paper you're quoting is doing is creating something he never said and arguing with that and trying to disprove it because you know you can't address the things he actually did say According to the government's own research before trump took over welfare fraud and benefit fraud is massive Improper welfare payments, including welfare fraud and abuse, are estimated to account for 9.2% of all federal welfare payments and total $101 billion in fiscal year 2023 So he's probably right. 100 billion is one of the bigger frauds schemes I've heard of. Go figure. As almost anyone who was being honest about this suspected, the criminal ring behind the burglaries of famous sports peoples homes when they were away playing games, was a gang from Chile comprised of illegal immigrants. Yet again, the policies of Biden and the Democrats to enable this open-border madness have left Americans victimized. This is why Trump is right to finally empower ICE to target these people and remove them and stop the madness of federal government spending and policies helping to enable this. Chilean migrants charged in $2 million burglary spree targeting Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, star athletes https://nypost.com/2025/02/19/sports/chilean-migrants-charged-in-burglaries-of-patrick-mahomes-travis-kelce-joe-burrow-homes/ "The seven illegal immigrants — Pablo Zuniga Cartes, 24; Ignacio Zuniga Cartes, 20; Bastian Jimenez Freraut, 27; Jordan Quiroga Sanchez, 22; Bastian Orellano Morales, 23; Alexander Huiaguil Chavez, 24, and Sergio Ortega Cabello, 38 — were all charged with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property, a criminal complaint unsealed in Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday, revealed."1 point

Not sure if you're old enough to remember but it reminds me of that Rice Krispies commercial. "What did you THINK it was made of?" This is the same. What did you THINK it would look like. If you create a hostile culture war and attack people who dare to question your trans agenda there's going to be a backlash. What did you THINK it would look like? If you practice lawfare on your political opponents, try to keep their names off of the ballot, bring endless nonsense charges against them, try to drain them of money by endless court cases then when THEY get into power they're going to look to do it right back at you. What did you THINK it would look like? If you waste endless amounts of money on creating needless beurocracy and demand gov't funds are yours by entitlement and the people paying the bills get no say, someone's going to come along and slash all that. What did you THINK it would look like? Honestly. For most sensible people this is OBVIOUS. But for the left this concept is as hard to grasp as teaching binary mathematics to a gerbil.1 point

Sorry about that, typo. The first line should have said "The issue here is NOT to try and prove whether or not ....." lol doesn't really make sense without that. And yes, it does prove that a sizable chunk of democrats believed that the charges were politically motivated and those are the ones willing to admit it. Sorry kiddo Absolutely patently untrue. Not even really plausible. Do better Yeah. That's exactly how it looks. The optics are absolutely terrible. Right down to the Judge's daughter getting rich off of the whole affair in the case of the criminal trial. Which is why trump's support actually went up after his conviction and during the trial. People took one look, smell the rat, and decided to support trump. No, I don't believe he did. And The defense stated that in order for the trial to be fair there would have to be a change of venue which the judge denied. The judge whose daughter was getting rich off of the whole thing. And then when asked to accuse himself and put in a different judge he refused. Here's a fun little exercise, what was the crime he was convicted of? His charges hinge on the idea that what they caught him doing was only a crime if it was done specifically to cover up a more serious crime that is a criminal violation. So what was that crime? What was the crime that he committed and when was he convicted of it that enables this crime to be considered a criminal charge? There isn't one. But the judge instructed the jury to pretend that there was if they felt like it. The jury has to follow the judges instructions. Nobody believes this is fair. He was basically Convicted for a crime that they never brought to trial or even identified. This trial had nothing to do with criminal behavior and everything to do with politics. It was a complete sham So now when the same thing happens to a democrat you're going to try and claim that it was unprecedented and how terrible it is...... and nobody will be listening.1 point

Is it? This is what they did to Trump: They literally took out important context that painted Biden in a negative light to make Trump's answers seem incoherent. In reality, his answers were really damaging to Joe. Now watch the Kackler: She starts with an incoherent, disjointed word salad. When she finally comes around to something that sounds somewhat plausible, they cut to that. In the second clip, they edited out the parts where she sounded unsure, scared and weak to the seconds where she sounded somewhat authoritative. The evidence is there. They were editing their interviews to create opinion rather than editing them for time.1 point

Poilievre will try to sell Canada a diluted and obscured version of trumpism? I'd suggest this. As Canada gears up to host the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alta., from June 15 to 17 this year, President Trump has said he wants Russia readmitted to the group. "I'd love to have them back," Trump said at the White House last week. "I think it was a mistake to throw them out. Look, it's not a question of liking Russia or not liking Russia. It was the G8." Russia was tossed out of the G8 in March 2014 following the annexation of Crimea. Asked if Canada would consider allowing Russia back to the table, Joly said "no way." https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trump-joly-threat-wake-up-call-1.7461719 If the Liberals are still in power come June 15th Canada should consider telling Trump he's not welcome either. I'd invite Zelenskyy as a sign of respect and sympathy and start introducing the counter-vision we need to this...1 point

I don't believe you. Somebody who was aware wouldn't have asked that question. The answer is startlingly obvious if you understand how their system works Right, that's why Quebec is such a happy part of confederation right? In two or three generations it might change. But it certainly doesn't change overnight. And there's no way to be sure it would change in a manner that would benefit the republicans. How long has California gone democrat? If we're already starting off closer to them why would you think that any change would break us to the republicans rather than harder to the democrats? Nobody sees it that way. And even those who care for America might not care for the republicans. There is a lot of national pride in Canada There are a lot of us haters right now that have nothing to do with steel What country has this ever happened in? It's never going to happen. It would never have happened anyway, but now Canada will spend the next decade distancing itself from the united states even more. You need to do a lot more homework before you comment on this stuff. Canada was founded because we didn't want to be Americans. We have Successfully fought off every attempt by America to take us over and there have been a few. This will just Harden Canadians against America and there's no going back from that in the near future.1 point

You would consider it a serious threat if you knew why Hitler suddenly turned to Soviet after the Battle of Britain. Hitler turned to the east because his offensive in the west was stalled by the strong resistance from British, so he turned to an easy prey---conquering the Soviet and seizing its natural resources would make German dominance in the Eurasia indisputable and would help to bring British under his knees. Of course we all know Soviet wasn't an easy prey at all from history, but in 1941 in Hitler's mind he didn't know it at all. Now Trump‘s trade war with China is also stalled. Actually stall is an optimistic word to describe the situation. "He is losing the war" should be a more precise statement. Annexing Canada and seizing its natural resources will make US a super-superpower in the world and make US's dominance in the world indisputable, which will help him to bring China under his knees. Some Canadian may ask: We are US's allies. If they want something from us, why shouldn't just ask instead of an annexation? For understanding this, they need to understand what is the difference between cats and dogs which both we human are considered the same under the name of pets: Thousands years ago, both dogs and cats chose to live with humans, but with different status. Cats chose to be an alley of human but dog chose to be the slave of humans. This is why there are military dogs but no military cats. Just imagine: when an army guy brings his dog and cat with him to the battle field. When he suspects there is a minefield in his path and he gives an order to the dog "Go forth to see what's in there", the dog will execute the order dutifully. But if he gives the order to his cat, the cat may say: "Oh, no way. I have just seen a big rat near that tree. Why shouldn't you go forth to fight your enemy and I stay here to fight mine? "😜😂1 point
