In canada you need picture id, OR they'll accept TWO official letters with your name on it such as a phone bill or hydro bill etc, OR you can even have someone who is assigned to that riding who HAS proved their id sign a document that they know you live in the riding and are a citizen. If someone still can't vote with all of those choices then then that's their CHOICE, not a problem with the system. They chose not to be responsible enough to bring their id, they chose to wait till the last minute, etc It's like saying that the system is unfair because you have to go all the way to the polling station. What if you had a flat tire? Or that you had to mail something in. What if you don't feel like walking to the post office box? If you can't be responsible enough to vote, then you choose not to vote.

I think this is a" pure political" announcement primarily to pappease the NATO members that Canada is willing to increase to 2% of GDP on defence. I personally do not think it will happen at all.
