So you're convinced 'the sky is falling'? Why? None of the previous predictions have ever been accurate. Nothing is collapsing except the economy. Here we use rather clean means of power generation. But has it been reasonable to drive the cost of transportation so high it drags the rest of the economy down with it? Has that been wise? Effective? Wouldn't it be a better use of resources to allow the fossil fuel industry to flourish and use the windfall of tax funds from it to fund green power generation research for something that can actually function reliably and cost effectively? What we've done is panic in the face of...unreliable doomsday predictions. Its back-asswards.3 points

I think we all need to be cognizant of the fact that a lot of foreign interests benefit greatly from our attacks on our own energy sector. When we stop burning coal, China buys our coal up for cheap and they burn it. When we stop using gas cars, we use batteries to power our cars, 90% of whose rare-earth minerals come from Chinese companies. When we stop producing gas and oil, we help raise the price of gas and oil sold by foreign interests. When we create wind farms and buy solar panels, we buy all of that stuff from foreign countries. Meanwhile, they emit 20x as much carbon as we do. All of the proponents of the above are against nuclear energy, and foreign interests don't profit from nuclear power plants here. Hmmmmmm...2 points

It's mostly made up of old times deadbeats and losers, like charest. I really doubt it'll get off the ground and i doubt it would appeal to many if it did. The libs are likely to go down VERY hard in the next election, and they'll know precisely why - they drifted too far to the left and that was kind of a fad, and now that voters have had a taste of what life on the left is like (no home, no lights , no motorcar, not a single luxury) they're not going to be interested. So - after they lose the liberal party will miraculously attempt to move back to the center as if they never left. The cpc will and does have at least one foot in the center, contrary to the opinion of the radical left who sees anyone right of castro as a nazi. So a "centrist" party would be squeezed badly in between both and they'd quickly find that all their policies already existed on one side or the other, and there'd be no distinguishing them. Fringe parties work when they're on the fringe. Not when they're mimicking mainstream.2 points

Rudeness is the least of it. He's just a big orange skin sack filled with the seven deadly sins. The man has no redeeming qualities. He has no love or loyalty or faithfulness to anyone but himself. I swear, he only even likes his children insomuch as they are his legacy. If one of them crossed him or became a liability, I expect he'd turn on them as quickly a any of his once-loyal associates. I don't know a single person who would want their son to grow up to be that man, or who would what their daughter to marry a man like that. I'm not saying any of this as a point of politics or bombast. I can say positive things about any other post Republican POTUS and usually several of the candidates in any given cycle. He's just the worst human being. And he doesn't embody any of the positive qualities Republicans once identified as virtues either. I know that aspects of populist politics appeal to a certain type of voter, but at least find one who is a decent person worthy of respect.2 points

Maybe there's a bigger center than people realize. Look at how many conservatives around here have been written off as left wingers these last few years for example. I'm pretty sure there are lots of right wing progressives who'd move in their direction if they had the choice. The problem with voting for the CPC means that you're voting for a party which includes a high percentage of deplorable chuds. I figure that's around 25% of the party and 10% of the Canadian electorate. As the next election draws closer Poilievre will need to scrape these off or face an uphill struggle trying to keep soft-boiled conservatives interested. Especially the more triggered the hard-boiled ones get and start looking more deep-fried.2 points

Why is everything down to left and right. Why can people not just have opinions or beliefs or thoughts about something and not making it political? This blaming left or right shit is being very narrow minded and bigoted. People can believe one thing and can have different opinions on another and, believe it or not, are not politically driven. I sometimes argue with CdnFox... and sometimes agree with him...am I ambidextrous or left or right or just have a mind of my own and do not follow the crowd? I can fully understand a person not liking the present government and their leader but that does not mean everyone that agrees with one or 2 policies is left. You, Army Guy, were once a very middle of the road kind of person that could hold a discussion but you have lately become one of those where everything is left or right politically.2 points

The left continue the attack on parental rights in this nation, when it comes down to LGBTQ issues, Now the Unions are getting into the act, preparing to join the LGBTQ march and the attack on parental rights, saying that they will be next on the extreme rights attack list if they don't act now....and of course the PM added fuel to the fire by dividing Canadians once again, by pigeon holing the entire group of parents as extreme right... The left is preparing counter protests which they are being told to wear masks so they can not be identified. That is not a counter protest that is lighting the match to violence... I guess this is why peaceful protests is a thing of the past , now we wear masks and go on the offensive, making sure the other sides voice is not heard, becasue that is how we role today, you either follow and practice what is being preached, or your canceled, exiled... Yes, "August" another example of how divisive our nation is when we can not even agree on what parental rights are. I agree if we are going to get up on the soap box, and preach to the world we should not have blood on our hands, or atleast not dripping blood... True, though on the flip side you don't know what parties yours might align with or not. I think on the whole PR still beats FPTP. FPTP encourages regionalism which isn't good for unity. And it gives the fringe representation instead of pushing them outside of democracy. As distasteful as a fascist party might be with 5-10% of the vote, that's how the votes go. The more parties the more 'democratic' the system is, as they have too much power as is. An alternative might be to require parties to re-vote on their leader every year, and have it be binding.1 point

Yep it's called the Nanny-state. Believing that state authority should be supreme is a hallmark of leftism. They need a big-bro. That is why communism seeks to replace god with Dear Leader, because including god imposes a set of rules that are above the rules of the state, placing the final say on liberty between god and man alone. These rules are used to put a limit on supreme executive power.1 point

Snicker I was curious about that after you said it, but it turned out to be a little more difficult than i thought to get a clear picture of that. First off - we DO produce a LOT. But it would seem that we tend to sell it to other places, and we do so in it's raw form rather than as value added goods. Looking at some of these numbers i would say your guess of 80 percent is high, but there's no doubt that the actual percent is going to be substantial. https://www.fcc-fac.ca/en/knowledge/economics/2022-food-industry-report.html So, at the end of the day it's still a gov't problem and certainly affected by global forces - even where we do grow enough of our own food we tend to sell it to the highest bidder outside of canada and then buy products from others Interestingly - the grocery items that are going up the fastest are ones we tend to make here. Beef, chicken etc1 point

Not the case at all, solar panels came in all sizes and ability to produce different amounts of power, contact your local solar company and ask about a quote.... plus the government both fed and provincial may have grants or long term loans to fund it... Here in NB the power is is not all the dependable, i use to have a 12 KW generator gas powered, but during long black outs this could be a problem as the gas stations need power to pump fuel... there is generators out there that are dual fuel mine takes propane, it's hooked up to a 350 lb tank, runs the whole house with little issues.... My furnace came with my heat pump and is electrical, which is why i have a generator, plus an alternative source of heat pellet stove... Heat pump system can be installed in any home already plumbed with a furnace and duct work, it runs on electrical, no fossil fuels involved, and depending on the type of system you have it takes the heat out of the air, or ground, or well, the well being the best and is efficient at all temperatures, where taking it out of the air, losses it's efficiency starting at -15 cel, you should check it out it will save you a bundle on your heating bill...1 point

There are legitimate causes which require masking up and covering up one's face. When you deal with a tyrannical government, when you are fighting a cause in which you might lose everything by being recognized, it's normal to act like that. But this kind of behavior is purely cowardice. No one is in danger from these protesters who are expressing their opinions about gender. I just wish that people who are demonstrating will not be cowards themselves and would defend themselves if attacked by the activist groups who seem to have impunity to assault from many police departments across Canada.1 point

I guess you didn’t get the memo that the PM was recently in India had a frosty reception from Modi. It’s now been revealed that this is when Trudeau first confronted Modi about the assassination. It’s no coincidence that he raised this issue in parliament pretty much immediately upon his return. You also stated that he has not publicly accused China of foreign interference which is false He did keep it under his hat for a while because Canada like almost all west countries is so economically dependent upon and vulnerable to China. Greedy capitalists in the private sector and politicians from BOTH PARTIES especially the right fed the Chinese juggernaut with money and technology for decades, thinking it would be perfectly harmless and would earn them a few extra bucks. “China is embracing capitalism” they wrongly claimed. In fact China’s communist regime had simply learned how to weaponize capitalism and use it as a tool to destroy the west and strengthen the Communist Party. Many wealthy and powerful businessmen in the west want these insane relationships w Russia and China to continue because they no longer remember how to be profitable without them. .1 point

There are plenty of geopolitical reasons to support Ukraine, but the core interest is that it's a free people fighting for survival against an aggressive dictator to remain free people. There aren't many more noble causes. As Republicans used to believe, freedom isn't free. Self determination is something to be cherished, rather than taken for granted. It must be protected from enemies foreign and domestic (ahem!). And that's a burden that all like-minded people can share Every Western democracy in the world exists because another another nation supported their fight to be free. Ukraine deserves the same, not out of cynical self interest, but simply because it's the right thing to do.1 point

There's a difference between conservatives and libertarians. The most hardcore libertarians want to do crazy things like abolish driver's licenses and legalizing the sale of marijuana to children. Conservatives believe small government can work with the people, not no government. There has been little actual evidence supporting any benefits to giving kids irreversible changes to their bodies, and many come to regret it deeply later on. Adults do have the right to mutilate their bodies. The people who don't are the children. Leave them out of this. Conservatism is not hardcore libertarianism, please learn the difference.1 point

First off - if you're going to take 2 months to think of a reply - do better than that Second - i was thinking more of clinton. Third - the documents weren't stolen. He had every right to remove them and take them 'to his office' when he did. Nobody anywhere has disputed that. His 'crime' should he be found guilty would be willfully not returning them. So - not theft. Forth - i'm not sure he did lie - i believe he decieved others who then 'lied' on his behalf. I'm not sure he ever directly swore he returned everything. There's little doubt he acted to prevent the return but that's different. So right off the bat you throw your credibility out the window by choosing to lie instead of honestly stating what he's being charged with and the truth of the allegations. This is why people think you're a shambling !diot who only parrots his echo chamber doctrine. Learn to be honest - learn to think. What actually DID trump do that was 'illegal'? If he can demonstrate that he actually willfully hid the documents then that's going to be a problem for him, but they're taking the approach that it was an error and he thought those boxes were his personal things. there's circumstantial evidence that suggest otherwise but - he might very well sell that, and that was exactly the same as biden's defense, Gosh guys i thought i returned it all but i didn't.1 point
