If the Courts suck, then what does waving the Charter around accomplish, especially if you disagree with the most important parts of it? I'll answer for you. It's because you goobers are warping your brains into pretzels to make reality fit your fantasy. If you don't like what's being reported in the news, it's FAKE. When you don't like what doctors and scientists and health organizations/authorities are saying, they're all compromised. If you disagree with the government's decisions and legislation, they're communists or fascists or whatever evil you think sounds coolest today. If you disagree with the Courts, they're corrupt. When these are your answers to literally everything, it's clear how far you've descended into your delusions. Every time you repeat one of the above, the rest of Canada rolls their eyes at you and you further confirm what we already know - you're adult children having tantrums.3 points

The majority at one point have opposed human rights for a variety of people. This is no different... you've got alot of whacky people thinking opinion polls should supercede personal Healthcare decisions3 points

Why, you are no longer wanted in the streets. It should be pretty clear by now that a majority of Canadians are tired of a bunch of protesters telling them what’s good for them and holding them hostage. You have made your point and are turning people who sympathized against you. Quit before you dig a bigger hole.3 points

So Ontario/Canada have not been shut down because of the blocked bridge. And only a portion of that total trade volume (both directions) has been impacted because some has been re-routed. The economic hyperbole from protest critics only give the protesters more power.3 points

A proven procedure used by governments/authorities to rid themselves of any group/individual they deem unacceptable: Demonize the group/individual in the press and on the airwaves, inflame the situation with innuendo and falsehoods . . . . . . let simmer, then offer 'the solution'. You got to wake up. This is 21st century eugenics. Just look at their covid hystaria. These are the same people who have climate hysteria. Many of these left-wing lunatics believe that, if too many people are driving cars, the earth will go instinct. They got their covid science brutally wrong, just like their climate science is brutally wrong. Why is Trudeau risking a civil war over a few unvaccinated truckers? They want us to take vaccines every 3 months now, it seems to me like they want to get rid of the population.2 points

According to Alberta stats, 96% of Covid deaths happened in people with one or more pre-existing conditions. I have not seen any similar stats on vaccine injury but it sure would be terrible to suffer a severe vaccine injury especially if you had no preexisting conditions.1 point

Wrong. You want to prevent unjabbed people from participating in society. They can't attend social gatherings and they can't even work in a lot of places. That's a lot of restrictions to put on people for not taking a jab that still allows covid to spread, allows people to die in large numbers, and has side effects. Get this through your head: 1,500 fully vaxed Canadians died since mid December. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1257040/number-covid-deaths-canada-by-vaccination-status/ There were 981 fully-vaxed covid deaths in mid-Dec, 2,490 now. If you don't believe me search up your own stats. Pfizer and Moderna said that the vaxes won't provide herd immunity. Obviously, people who are sick enough to die from covid can still spread it. Less than 30 people under 20 have died from covid since the start. It's not serious to warrant force-vaxing them all. The jabs also have serious side effects on the very healthiest of them. Not wanting those kids force-vaxed is not "being an anti-vax zealot". Your comment actually makes you a vax-zealot (aka a vax-Nazi)1 point

We have weeks and pages and pages of explanations for why. The Courts have upheld that reasoning and explained why they don't violate the Charter and the measures are justified. The fact that you can't wrap your heads around that reasoning and choose to follow the path of nonsense is a "you" problem.1 point

Yes and I’m saying this with the greatest sincerity: Canadians are living under fascist dictates that are a denial of Canadians’ Charter of Rights and Freedoms. However, this is perhaps just the start of a concerted attempt to control populations to a degree we’ve never seen before. I believe we’re in a battle for human dignity against totalitarianism. Harari called it digital totalitarianism, humans versus algorithms. Digital vaccine passports and government-mandated behavioural controls, supported by surveillance and the turning of government over to unelected data analysts is our living proof. Each day we watch the statistics and strive for impossible public health purity. Impurity becomes the justification for endless suspension of rights and oppression. The people are exhausted, depressed, mentally and social-emotionally damaged. We’ve forgotten what normal healthy behaviour is. Families and friends are alienated from one another. Education is a shadow of its former self. We have two new castes of people who have replaced Canadian citizens: 1. Those who adhere to the government-mandated health program and have reduced rights. 2. Those who don’t follow the program and have even fewer rights. Note that all current government-mandated behaviours can be adjusted at any time to allow more or fewer freedoms. The Charter protections are gone. The veterans and many active members of our military and police forces know that all of this is happening, even if they can’t articulate it. Only some are willing to risk speaking out, because people have families to feed and bills to pay. I understand that not everyone believes in God or that we are spiritual, not just physical beings. I believe we’re in a very real spiritual battle that does threaten the innate desire and need for freedom in all of us. Don’t buy into the messages of fear from some of the pro-totalitarian voices on here and elsewhere. The media are mostly bought and selling the same mandated behavioural messages we get from government. There is a segment of the population that really thinks that the small unvaccinated minority are the reason we continue to live under restrictions and mandates. They don’t see that even if everyone was vaccinated we’d be in much the same place we are now, except that the means used to make the unvaccinated get vaxxed would be even more totalitarian than our digital passports and mandates. Our current pandemic measures are completely unjustifiable. They don’t meet the burden of proof required to suspend Charter freedoms. You’ve seen the signs of those who want the unvaccinated to be completely alienated or even killed. Significant figures on the US left —yes, liberals— are calling out Justin Trudeau’s vilification and alienation of the unvaccinated. His words and policies are not what Canada stands for. Calling the truckers goons or morons or racists is wrong. These people have been our essential workers throughout the pandemic. Don’t insult them. They’re taking a necessary and important stand. Thank God because no one else has offered an effective challenge. I hope that our constitutional freedoms are restored but nothing is guaranteed. End all mandates immediately.1 point

OK, but Canada is not shut down, despite rhetoric to the contrary. Government Covid measures have had a much greater impact than a blockaded bridge. How is that Gordie Howe International Bridge project going ? Is it blockade proof ? Michigan is not shut down either...Detroit traffic map just shows a closed Ambassador bridge. The world is not ending for workers on either side of the border. Its a peaceful protest...is suppose to be a pain in the ass by design.1 point

This is nothing new. Remember the chaos at Simon Fraser in the early 1970's. Students were afraid to be associated with SFU. Do you seriously think a prof has that much impact on the political biases of their students? I was a university student for seven years. The job of a professor is to be there to lecture, answer questions and give guidance, but primarily, it is research. In the Arts, things are a bit different than in the sciences. In the sciences, 2 + 2 = 4. In history, there are more than one answer. A prof will say William Stevenson (Intrepid) established an Intelligence service that won the war. The student will counter that Stephenson was a fantasist and a liar who took credit for other peoples' work and was sent to the USA to mitigate any further damage to the British war effort. The prof say's "Prove it." That is how we learn history. Not from the professor, but from the library. Most students are left wing. It was that way when I was at UVic in the late 60's and 1970's, and when my father was at UBC in the 1920's. It is amazing how many socialists become conservative by the time they are 40. I was an outlier. I was always a conservative and always will be. That doesn't make me smart, just rigid.1 point

1. What is government? An INSTITUTION, doh. You know, like where they put yo mama? 2. Protesting the government should be a human right, protected by law. The individual has a right to speak to power. 3. People protest on the hill all the time. I myself did once, years ago. There’s special interest groups and rallies every day and on weekends. People come out for it, it’s part of the economy. They even have Obama cookies at the By-Ward market Bakery. I asked if they had any Trump cookies, but was told no. Then they gave me funny looks. Whole place is political, I tell you.1 point

Yeah we’ve moved into a new phase of world history where almost the entire spectrum of political parties has become out of touch with the actual workers who do essential work. There’s a supposedly “liberal” orthodoxy of ideas that people are supposed to agree with, but debate is considered radical and triggering. The people on top don’t see the log in their own eye on so many issues, especially free speech, but now it appears that most of our constitutional rights are also too “radical” to be honoured by our government, which knows better than Canadians what is good for them. Of course many members of our “Liberal” government are sanctimonious hypocrites. How many black people do they actually hang out with? When was the last time any of them chatted with farmers, truckers, or blue collar workers? I wonder who’s more exclusive, these politicians at their cottages or the truckers sitting around a fire pit? Who would be more welcoming? I, and I think most people consider themselves liberal in the classic sense of lessez faire, live and let live, “you do you” and “who am I to judge?” Our current Liberal Party in Canada has become more like a closed-minded left-wing Politburo. The NDP is much this way too. They make superficial judgements about the working people they’re supposed to represent and don’t really want to spend time among them. After all, these MPs are doing quite well financially and have had a pretty smooth ride under pandemic restrictions. Why wouldn’t people want to think exactly as they do? Our government has creeped into totalitarianism because our constitutional freedoms have been removed in the name of what they continue to define as an emergency, as other governments drop mandates and restrictions. We’re told to be patient, yet people have lost their livelihoods and continue to suffer under mandates that now clearly appear arbitrary. If there isn’t a clear and powerful reason to suspend our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, don’t suspend them. This entire protest can be ended with the stroke of a pen ending an executive order.1 point

The part to the media that bothers me the most is the corrections. The news will issue their story with false data which everyone reads and remembers….then a time after initial print, they realize the error and subtly correct it in the article with the only mention of the correction at the bottom of the page. Here’s a prime example https://www.google.ca/amp/s/beta.ctvnews.ca/national/coronavirus/2021/12/16/1_5709786.html Correction: A previous version of this article stated that the risk of contracting a serious side-effect after COVID-19 vaccination is less than one in a million. The correct figure, based on data reported to the Public Health Agency of Canada, is roughly one in 10,000. So the initial article left 99% of the readers thinking vaccination causes a serious side effect in one out of 1,000,000 yet the true number is actually 1 out of 10,000. No wonder why people are so misinformed!!1 point

Unfortunately most people don't appreciate what they have until they lose it. He wants to leave Canada for US where crime is rampant, drug addictions, muggings, homelessness, poverty, slum areas dominating while top 10% own 90% of wealth. Doesn't matter what Justin does. As long his primary opponent can't disavow the hardline politics of the rabid Alberta base, they'll flop. Trudeau doesn't need to be popular to beat someone like Scheer, O'Toole or Pierre Poli. The first two were wimps who sat on the fence with the far right of the party and that was enough to scare off the middle ground Canadian voter. Pierre is jumping on board with them whole-heartedly, and he'll be even less appealing. Harper was the last Conservative leader that understood there's no path to the PM's office that doesn't properly court the middle vote. He was a pragmatist and everyone who's come since has been a coward or an out-of-touch buffoon.1 point

The reason Free Speech is desirable is that the public is supposed to be able to discern between bad and good ideas, and discuss them honestly and in good faith. We now have a new cult of bad actors who defend each other and sanction absolute lies by posting aboutt mainstream media and accusing them of doing what they actually do. These people live among us - we all know them. Anonymous message boards are fine, but we have to start calling them out in real life. Hopefully the true Conservative party will start to see this toxic fringe for what it is.1 point
