I'm shocked you guys haven't jumped all over this. https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/pm-trudeau-s-mother-brother-and-wife-were-paid-to-speak-at-we-charity-events-1.5017697 The irony of getting paid that much, and giving that much taxpayer money (almost a billion) to promote volunteering is laughable. This is textbook corruption by the Trudeaus. Sadly with the country distracted by COVID and the Opposition without a leader, this probably won't effect him too much.3 points

Exactly. I come from a long line of people who worked hard and built this country and it's not ok for some mouthy losers to come along and act like they were some kind of troglodytes that we need to be ashamed of. My last name isn't Trudeau.2 points

Too busy worrying about Trump. Besides, wouldn't this be Trudeau's 4th or 5th ethics violation with no consequences ?2 points

I disagree. A lot of people don't see any viable options to voting for Trudeau. Andrew Scheer and the Conservatives don't count as a party; they certainly don't compete in the marketplace of ideas and nor do they try to convince people why their policies are better. They only preach to their choir of CPC members, which accounts for 0.1% of the Canadian population.1 point

It's not that Justin is all that and a bag of candy, it is the liberal followers that will vote liberal even if the candidate was a pile of horse shit...They are scared the conservatives will put them in chains, and sell them for slave labor....1 point

1. I see. That makes a lot of sense, judging by your sense of humour around here. 2. It's just taken that long for it to come to the forefront of the argument. Or else I guess that makes me a great visionary, then. 3. This is entirely not on topic. Too bad. But I see you try to contend with the same or similar issues elsewhere. Good luck in your most heroic and noble effort to defend these things. 4.For some reason I only remember you dissing Jerry Seinfeld's comedy as sub-par. Thanks,1 point

As the member said? These people in the third world need to stop breeding like flies. If those people really cared about their world then they would stop bringing more children into their world. They are lucky if they can afford to have one child. The people in the third world are the ones burning down their own countries. Dam right, I want to keep enjoying my own world. I am not going to give up my lifestyle or cut back on my coffee for a bunch of people who seem to have no idea and are clueless as to what the hell they are doing here on earth. All they seem to know how to do is to breed and breed some more. That is their big problem, and some thing you seem to want to ignore. We prosper here in Canada because we work for our prosper, and people do not have 5 - 10 children anymore like they once did in Canada over a hundred years ago. Canada cannot get out of it's debt if it just keeps borrowing money from the banksters(who then make plenty of interest off that borrowed money)and given most of that money away to foreigners. If you want to feel sorry for the rest of the world, and their problems, well then, use your own money to help save them, and leave my tax dollars alone. Your liberal socialism is really showing.1 point

Do you realize that Justin Trudeau's first scandals where back in 2012 or earlier, before he became leader of the LPC, where he was charging 'charities' excessive amounts of money to speak at events? Like $20,000 per speech. Often these speeches would not have much content. That's more than a lot of people earn in this country in an entire year for doing far more work.1 point

Trudeau should resign, this is way too shady. where are his advisers, was there no one in Cabinet who thought it was a bad idea, most of all,why did Trudeau not recuse himself. Now we know Morneau’s daughter is also connected to WE Charity. How many more Liberal cabinet ministers are in a conflict of interest. I don't see how an election could be held during a pandemic so likely this will save him.1 point

I've been going back and forth with him on this issue and he's certainly not saying that. The sports argument is one he's made clear he thinks is open for debate. I do disagree with many of his assessments on what is or isn't discriminatory or demeaning, and what is or isn't closed for debate, but he's not throwing around cancel culture slogans.1 point

What you have outlined takes 60 billion not 6 billion. I get you. We have to give priority to Canadians but the fact remains that this relatively small amount (relative to Canada's gross domestic product or even Canada's annual budget (expenditure) of over 350 billion dollars goes a long way overseas and makes a significant difference. Those Canadians who can afford it (a good majority) should also make private donations to charity work overseas and sponsor children for a price of a coffee a day. People overseas may not be Canadians but they are humans too and feel suffering and hunger and disease. It is our human responsibility to help a bit.1 point

Affirmative action does not say let someone who failed math into a math degree or a position where one is required. It says that when you have two equally qualified people, preference should be given to minority or women in order to tackle discrimination against those groups. Claiming people should be hired based on merits is good and all but it does nothing to deal with the inherent bias people have against minority groups and women. Funny how when wanting to hire more women and people from minority groups people always insinuate that they aren't qualified.1 point

Well, I am no fan of your present PM, but he is hardly the first to go down the path of massive debt. And other parties support this government. Occupy whose land, the land that their ancestors took from someone else? The real issue is policies like the Indian Act that create two-tier citizens. Either we all pay taxes, have title, and live under the same laws with the same rights and freedoms or we have systemic institutionalization and inter-generational dependence, which is what the reserve system is about on both sides of the border. The sums given to Indigenous Affairs are staggering. Representation without taxation is just as bad as taxation without representation. We need to be invested in our society because our shared interests supersede racial distinctions. Are your business and government leaders apologizing every morning for the Indian Wars? Are the descendants of the Loyalists who fled to Canada seeking reparations for the land they left behind? These are perhaps other topics, but they relate to our debt because we have a PM who doesn't know how to make hard choices and spend hard earned tax dollars responsibly. Billions to infrastructure and no projects to show for it. Millions in inquiries and new regulations with only canceled resource development projects and protests to show for it. Inquisitions of political correctness and empowerment of the ignorant are the hallmarks of this government. I guess we got weed to help us forget.1 point

I have come to the conclusion that Canada is a total write off. It can never be saved. They the Canadian sheeple keep getting Canadian politicians who keep giving them the finger, and then shove it up their azzes with it after. They seem to enjoy it. I wonder as to how many Canadians keep saying shove it in deeper? No doubt plenty!! I use to be in favor of Western separation, but not all that much anymore. I would much now prefer that British Columbia become the 51st of the union. Hey, do you want us, bc?1 point

I think there's still a lot of reasonable people, whether centre-left or centre-right, but they're drowned out by the more radical opinions on the left and right. Uncontroversial centrist opinions about liberalism by Michael Hardner don't attract outrage and therefore don't attract as many eyeballs via news headlines and trending tweets etc. The centre is now the silent majority IMO. Most people I know also aren't super political and when they do share views they have pretty reasonable opinions on things, they aren't reading up on the latest woke social theory every day, but they are bullied by the vocal minority to remain ideologically compliant. The woke crowd IMO have intelligently used most people's fears of being accused of being a racist, homophobe, or sexist etc and weaponized it to further their ideological agenda by using it as a bullying tactic to as I said ensure compliance. If people are too afraid to stand up to ie: a black female lesbian that's calling someone a racist/sexist/homophobe then the current situation is the result. I think bullies like this have also always been around (to a lesser degree) but didn't have social media to broadcast their opinions.1 point

No I'm not, I addressed the point that your ignorance is your fault. The points you want addressed were addressed in the post you responded with when pointing out your ignorance. If you'd like to point out exactly what it is you don't understand I'd be happy to go over them again . Given your comprehension issues I'd need confirmation you actually know what hypocrisy means. Perhaps an example of where exactly you think I'm being hypocritical would help. Thanks.1 point

The condescending tone, pats on the head, and tut-tutting about left-wing sensibilities that accompanies most conservative attitudes in discussions involving the economy. The economy is drenched with the moral certitude of conservatism, notwithstanding the most important ingredient of our economy...the natural capital our planet provides. I'm a conservative who still can't understand what it is about conserving that fellow conservatives don't get. There's more to it than that, recall the suggestion that moderate Islamic people tell their extremes to stand down. Yes left-wingers need to do similar to their own which probably explains why I get cast as a con in my circle if I doubt that Jessica Yaniv is someone I need to take seriously. The thing we seem to have most in common here is that we're caught between a stupid and a dumb place.1 point

Yes, but only in the context of individual rights and expression, not public accommodation. The U.S. Supreme Court was already moving on civil rights, whether LBJ and the southern Democrats voted yes to pass the Act or not. Congress wanted the glory more than the USSC wanted it, per constitution. Good call on the Harper's piece, it is making the rounds today in U.S. talk radio and social media.1 point

I never said that word or anything like it, you put it in my mouth in 2 different posts. I said universities are infected with a disease, which is left-wing hysteria. People should be free to discuss any ideas they want. That's not the culture we live in today though. We live in a woke-McCarthyist witchhunt world.1 point

Left-wing hysteria, much of it is about banning ideas and people that don't align with the approved paradigm, it's the opposite of free-speech. That's a disease1 point

There's a lot of rightwing and leftwing hysteria these days. Luckily rightwing hysteria hasn't infected our universities, but leftwing hysteria has.1 point

The Left hates our past, our traditions, and our values. It has this belief that once they're all cast down they will be able to build a new society, a utopia without racism, discrimination or economic disparity. This is not a new thought, but every successful revolution in the past has led to more of the same. See Russia, France, etc.1 point

I don’t know if you visited the political prison section of Auschwitz-Birkenau, but the prisoners who were gassed there were mostly progressives in today’s terms. Whatever racism Churchill exclaimed, the reality of his work was to prevent the silencing and elimination of progressive thinkers and minorities. Racism by today’s standards was the prevailing viewpoint then and there were far fewer visible minorities in countries like Britain and Canada. It’s easy to criticize and overlook the achievements of past leaders because of their imperfection by today’s standards, but much of the privilege that today allows us to criticize derived from these leaders’ efforts. I’m not sure today’s leaders would have the grit and determination it takes to defend our current freedoms. The progressive posturing of people who never had to fight much for anything probably wouldn’t stand up to much under pressure of war. Just a guess.1 point
-
As I thought, no perspective on this. If it wasn’t for Churchill’s big push to fight Hitler, the western world with its current freedoms probably wouldn’t exist. What a short memory and lack of respect for the sacrifices of our grandparents. I guess the world looks quite different to those who had freedom handed to them. I guess we haven’t learned much. I wonder how the 6 million dead Jewish ancestors, half a million American and Canadian soldiers, and 20 million Russian soldiers who fought fascism would see the lack of gratitude. I sincerely hope we don’t learn the hard way again. History has a way of repeating itself when it’s forgotten or rewritten.1 point

When the left and right can sit at the same table and debate topics without losing there minds, the left needs to grow thicker skin, and the right needs to shed some layers. Thats being said you can relax because it will never happen, your proof of that, the left is always jumping to conclusions, or reading into something that is not there or was not even mentioned.. your not alone right has it's close minded people as well.. Sometimes we just have to shut up and listen for a minute... This county is way to divided, along dozens of gaps, with the left playing upon that. Take the west for instance, Quebec, native issues, and the list goes on and on....we can't solve these problems how can we tackle racism, or the tougher issues.1 point

People usually don't even know when they've experienced discrimination, because it's rarely done to their face. When you don't get a job or aren't picked from a pool what was the reason? You don't know. Maybe the hiring manager was east Indian and wanted another East-Indian. Maybe they were Chinese and gave preference to another Chinese person. Who knows? Harassment? People don't harass me. I doubt they harass Michele Obama either. Harassment and abuse is uncommon at our age. But almost everyone has been insulted and attacked many times during their lives. And often that's simply over some component of how they look; too tall, too short, too fat, too skinny, bad skin, big nose, big ears, bad hair, bald. People pick on something about a person's looks when they want to insult them. And if they're an asshole and looking to bully or harass someone they'll find it. And it's often based on what they perceive is the willingness and ability of someone being targeted to fight back. Who is more likely to be harassed walking down the street, a skinny white guy with buck teeth and thick glasses, or a muscular, six foot four, black man?1 point

He was a backup quarterback who had lost his ability to pass. And there is a difference between a public protest in uniform, at work, in front of your company's angry customers, and one done on your own time. And Stockwell Day wasn't protesting. He was asked a question on a show where you are supposed to give your opinions and responded honestly. And 90% of the people of this country would likely have agreed with what he said.1 point

Tdot's posts are lunatic trash. They can't stand racial mixing so they post an alternate universe approach where the FCC becomes openly racist, then abrogates its duties, flouts the constitution and bans images of white and black people together... Why would they even post this stuff ? I don't get it at all.1 point
