Liberal government destroyed the Crown

Well, don't forget this would also have been about the time the 1% were suffering in a deep pit of depression - paying fair wages must have been an awful burden.  The poor things seem much happier these days don't they?

I know you're not going to believe this, but doctors even made house calls. 😉

And there was a milkman, a breadman, an eggman and a Chinese guy that drove a 1930s truck through the streets selling fresh vegetables.
Fuller brush man and the Avon lady. Mom sent you to the store with a quarter to get a quart of milk and you got 6c to buy candy for you * your sisters.
You could buy the world's shittiest built gas guzzling air polluting American car for $2000.

Then you ran into evolution and just could not adapt, keeping your last row in the class "the teachers are all stoopid". "it's someone else's fault". "I shouldn't have to", "they won't give me a job"  attitude intact.
Let alone this snivelling whine that 40 million people is why you can't buy the same plot of land the other 39,999,999 people will bid on. The epitome of coddled, lazy, unadventurous, entitled malcontents or what?
Self defined 'conservatives' that want the govt less involved in their lives but want them to control prices, production, 'purity' of the population and regulate thoughts of "others"?

What drugs were you on when you pounded out that bizarre rant?

All conservatives want is for the government to stop pouring foreigners into their country.

You live in the best country on Earth. Sounds like many of you were so spoiled by that you don't know it.

It used to be better, my ass.

If you were here all of your life and your parents were here before you and managed to create some wealth and managed to buy some property back in the day, you may now retire and live the life.

However a big percentage of Canada's population would be newcomers to Canada with 10 years or less in the country.   I have 20 and haven't prospered all that much either.

A newcomer is generally sold a small piece of s*t at a premium price and they line up to pay for it.   If not enough are in the line, they start bringing in the refugees, temporary workers and students.

OMG you're saying they have enough money to buy up houses and drive up prices yet are drains to the economy in the same breath, are you?
Both my grandfathers lived in homesteader wood shacks and worked their butts off for every penny to buy their first real house. My 1st wife's entire family came to Canada mid 1960s from the UK and never did own a house. The wife and I had to move way out the valley and use 2 union incomes and every nickel we could save, beg or borrow to get our 1st house. So just give up the whining, you're never gonna afford a house in Vancouver and that's that.

You are an example of what I posted.

Whoever said that was right.  You have refugees and regular immigrants that will be a drain to the economy and then you have the business class that drive real estate prices up. You even had foreigners not living in Canada or having Canadian status driving prices up.

What are you surprised at???

We did not have the British flag, otherwise known as the Union Jack. We had the red ensign, which basically resembles the one Ontario has now, but with a different coat of arms, and a union jack in the upper left corner.

And it connected us with our history in a way the new does not.

Which, of course, is why the old one was done away with. The Liberals want to destroy English Canada's connection to its historical roots. That's certainly a part of the new crest redesign, as well.

Do you think the Quebecois want to fly a flag with a big union jack on it?  This country isn't just about English Canada.  The French were here long before the British, that's also a part of our history.  It might surprise you that the French don't like living under anglo/British domination, just like many anglos in Canada wouldn't like being ruled by a monarchy from France or wave a France flag around.

History is good but it's also good that we feel united as Canadians, not British or French etc, and it's a tough balance.

Nice try.
We're Canadians, not Brits. It's only a few old white Tory toadies that claim we must cling to tradition over using our own identity and pull shit like putting back the "Royal" into everything. Just as this thread demonstrates. Moving on equates to erasure in their tiny minds.

The Crown is Canadian.  The monarchy is Canadian, it's a Canadian title.  "Royal" doesn't make it more British.

The government are the ones driving up the price.  They're the ones who have drastically increased immigration and foreign students, and they're the ones who have allowed people to buy up investment properties to cash in on the housing price boom with any speculation taxes to disincentivize it.  They're the ones who have created the red tape that makes building homes harder.

Nobody should blame immigration and students or even people buying 2nd properties for investment, they all just want a better life.  Blame the governments whose policies and mismanagement have done this.

Do you think the Quebecois want to fly the maple leaf? Guess what, they don't. You won't find any flying at the Quebec assembly either, inside or outside. In fact, there's a law in Quebec that requires the fleur de lis (Hey, where did THAT symbol come from!?) be given precedence over any other flag anywhere in Quebec. So schools and government buildings in Quebec fly only the fleur-de-lis. That is most assuredly not the case elsewhere in Canada.

The French want no part of you or your history. It isn't even taught, aside from the parts dealing with Quebec and its cruel oppression, at Quebec schools. And the instant they think they can make a go of it economically they will be out the door with a backward sneer toward you and your efforts at placating them.

I grew up in Qeubec. It might surprise you the French don't like living in the same country as les maudit anglais. Much less the same province. Which is why they've been slow-motion ethnic cleansing their pure province of english speakers for years.

You clearly don't know any Quebecers or much about their political or cultural views.

Ask yourself why.

Why should I ask myself that? Because of the battle on the plains of Abraham? Because of the Napoleonic wars? They've never liked English people. And they've DEFINITELY never liked English intruding upon the sacred French language.

It’s not really. Not any more. We’re not a little colony at this stage. Charles found time to visit multiple countries around the world in Europe, Asia and Africa before he got sick. But not us. Which should tell you something: this relationship is on the DNR list.

It’s important to remember that Canada was literally British North America.  Nova Scotia is New Scotland.  The name British Columbia speaks for itself.  The problem for Canada is that without the power of Britain behind it, we are fodder for UN-China special projects, even US State Department/CIA projects.  Don’t get me wrong either, our current government in Ottawa is so internationalist now that it’s hard to know whether their policies even support Canadians.  Our mismanaged immigration system and handicapping of our resource sector are cases in point. The US can have a strong foreign policy because they have the military to back it up.  We’re totally beholden to our allies.  If it wasn’t for pressure to maintain freedom from the south, Canada would likely have become a full bore socialist dictatorship by now.  We experienced some of this already with the various mandates and clamping down on free speech/protest.  At least the Crown represents certain long-held standards.  Give that up and I’m not sure Canada wouldn’t fold like a house of cards.

WAS the operative verb, not IS.

Like sands thought the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. And some people enjoy being buried by it.

The problem is that you can’t articulate what better looks like.  Is it the Trudeau Senior have no military, upset the West, go multicultural and overspend Canada you like?  Or is it the Post-National State identity politics China admiring Canada of Trudeau Jr you like?  Really, in the last 50 years those are the only options we’ve been offered other than Harper’s strong alliance with the Brits and America, when our dollar was strong, our citizens were proud, and our public relatively harmonious.  I prefer the last version because the former two are big fails.

In other words, that is our roots, our history, our origin. And that is what the Liberals have sought to eliminate at every turn in a feeble effort at having Canada be a bit less offensive to Quebec.

You ,me, the average Canadian can blame them all we want in what is supposedly a democracy.

Makes zero difference.

These unpatriotic whiners insist on living in a dream world where because things were, they mus have been better.

Oooh we all miss black & white TV and those exotic Jello & tuna dinners, calling Grandma in North Van long distance, playing with Bolo bats under the willow trees, no natives allowed in bars and boat people from the UK being allowed to vote without citizenship. Glory days driving the Acadian or the Frontenac to the Safeway to get a box of KD for 19 cents and a tin can of 50 Sweet Caps for 43c.
Hear them whimper how multiculturalism, bilingualism and the maple leaf and the metric system destroyed the country for fifty more years.

Dig the old dusty leather strap from storage and beat some sense into those insolent Liberals.

Well somebody voted the Liberals in 3 elections in a row.

You are suggesting the conservatives were going to let no immigrants in?  Or just lower numbers , which would still be very inflated numbers compared to pre 2000 ?

Makes no difference who you vote in.

Makes no sense to vote at all.
