I love where you’re coming from, a concept of integrity that unfortunately, I don’t see anywhere practiced in politics. Are things getting worse? Where they always like this? Or are we simply older/wiser and can see the forest for the trees? Seems everyone is up for sale and the SCOTUS is no different. Intellect or a watered version of it may be still around; however, loyalty takes precedence and permeates all endeavors. A single person shouldn’t be appointing public servants for long-life tenures. Many conservatives think of Trump as a “Godsend”, but he’s (like all of us) a fallible individual with limited knowledge. The only solution I see, is having limited appointments, say of 10 years. And that’s the main challenge the USA is facing today, the country has been polarized to an unhealthy/religious degree. Many conservatives truly believe this is the end of times and that their fighting evil represented by the demonic Democrats. When church and state mix, you can expect nefarious consequences.2 points

Whoa, that's a bit harsh. It is only politics. Are the Vancouver Whitecaps borderline evil or the Edmonton Elks? Politics is our national sport, but the emphasis is on "sport." The rule remains, "It is not whether you win or lose that counts. It is how you play the game." No matter who sits in the PMO, the government operates as it should. Parliament is a pretty good reflection of the electorate. We must never take politics too seriously. If we do, we lose our democracy.2 points

They are just statues. A united Canada is the best tribute to MacDonald. Prime Minister Trudeau's record includes forming a successful all party effort to protect NAFTA from a hostile US administration. It was also an all party effort that saved a lot of lives in the first two years of the Covid 19 pandemic. The US is 10 times our size. With that in mind, we can say that the response of the Canadian governments, federal and provincial, saved 60 thousand lives. Canada suffered 40 thousand deaths, the US us lost over a million. (That is the greatest catastrophe in US history.) Prime Minister Trudeau's mistakes have been minor. He visited a family friend who happens to be one of the great religious leaders of the world, when he should have paid his own way. Many years ago, he wore make up at a costume party dressed as a person of colour. I did the same in a high school play, but he admitted it was wrong. He asked the AG if a deferred prosecution was possible for one of the leading employers in Canada. The AG said no. The next AG said no as well, without even being asked. These were rookie mistakes. When you compare the Trudeau government with the government of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Mike Pearson, you get to see what a scandalous government really is. Pearson's government had the Spenser affair, the furniture scandal involving three cabinet ministers, the Rivard affair where Pearson's Parliamentary Secretary offered the lawyer representing the US government $50,000 not to oppose bail for Rivard. All of these scandals were going on all at the same time. We haven't had a real scandal in years. I'm a Progressive Conservative. I only joined the CPC in the hope that we would get a leader that would excise the socred cancer and give us back the party of MacDonald.2 points

"Baby" is a cheap, purely ideological tactic. So old and tired it's not even funny just boring. You want to brand some issue in terms of ideology you call it "a baby". Your little finger a baby, sure. Circumcision skin, but of course! A modern, impartial and non-partisan court should be able to see past that; it shouldn't have allowed ideologically motivated interfering with basic rights - if such a right exists, granted. Not a great day for America.2 points

The Constitutional 'right' in U.S. politics is to have a system that does NOT accept those elected to represent one's PARTICULAR religious belief to impose upon all others. The beliefs against abortion, a choice of conscience based ONLY on a religious belief that anything biologically conceived at conception is God's will, is not 'constitutional' because it violates the right of those OTHER people's beliefs about what constitutes a 'person'. You Rightwing nuts don't question how Corporations are arbitrary CREATIONS of 'persons' ["incorporate" means to make a company into a 'person' in law]. Should we then not question whether 'person' itself of non-living beings could have a 'right' to have LIMIITED LIABILITY [They get to profit upon investment but are only liable to lose what they put in but not any DEBT they create, enabling them to ABORT their entity's existence with the debt being imposed upon the whole. You can't be hypocritical if you are arguing for some right of your discrete beliefs that dominate your reasons for being against abortion. If you think that some magical essence 'suffers' where it lacks life experience and proof of its conscious existence and worth of a 'being', you cannot bias laws that favor YOUR beliefs upon OTHERS that the rest of us are simultaneously NOT permitted to impose upon you for other's DIFFERENT beliefs, religious or not.2 points

UNLIKE you, I am not influenced by what I merely 'hear'. I don't fall the absurd caricatured news outlets that act as rag magazine entertainment. As one WITH a high technical 'I.Q.', I think for myself and default NOT to trusting ANY UNIQUE sources of news. FACT: ALL television 'news' is biased and FAVORS the Republican ideals with respect to PROFIT by default. I interpret CNN as an alternate class of 'conservatives' who just happen to represent mostly catholic liberalism or 'moderate' forms of religions. Their relative 'liberalism' contrasts with the intollerant exploiters on th e Right who just happen to be most extreme given they chose beliefs based upon direct inheritance and not democratic choice. Your idea of 'news' is DISCRETELY authoritative by those you like emotionally. Don't impose upon me your own DISCRETE prefernce. I don't hve BLIND FAITH in any diescrete autority so don't think like your one track minded mentatlity. You are like the religious who think that the 'athiest' is just a form of your own religion that just favors your god's opponent demigod or devil. The fact that we don't believe in ANY 'gods' means we also don't believe in your DISCRETE Satanic demigod.2 points

Thank you for this, now I see where you are coming from. Globalization has been what the leading countries of the world have been moving toward for probably 30 years or more. The US included. On the down low since their voters have a dim view of such things, and rightly so. Globalism is the move towards a one world government, and this is done again in the background, its goals kept under wraps. The WHO, WEF and UN are arms of this monster, getting more and more power through treaties and agreements in exchange for “help” given. Globalization puts power in the hands of the few. For that reason I don’t think it’s a good thing. Races and cultures and peoples are unique and should always be celebrated. I believe Russia, India and perhaps China(plus a smattering of small countries) are all that’s left to oppose Globalism. Russia has committed the unspeakable sin of basing their currency on a gold standard instead of remaining connected to the world fiat based system. This is why Russia must be taken out by NATO. The “Save Ukraine” campaign was a ruse. See Libya. The USA is going to fail. China will strike a major oil deal with the ME which will destroy the US dollar. Where we all wind up is anyone’s guess, but the old normal is never coming back.1 point

Really? But leftists thought that it was such a huge controversy when some protesters put signs up on the Terry Fox statue. They didn't even destroy it. Are all leftists fuckin retarded? Holy Kool-Aid Batman, that's some duuummmmb shit right there. Have you ever heard of sayings like "A stich in time saves nine" and "Avoid it like the plague"? Trudeau did the exact opposite during covid. He just said "Covid won't really get here" and waited for it to get here. He let planes pour in from China, he let the people walk everywhere here freely, and then a week after the Chinese visitors were finally stopped from flying in, Canadians weren't even allowed to walk outside in public parks. That's. Plain. Fuckin. Stupid. You literally couldn't botch it any worse than that if you tried. Then he didn't order any US vaccines. He wanted Chinese vaccines. But the Chinese ones apparently sucked, and then we were last in line for American ones, so he poached 1.9 million vaccines from the 3rd world charity pool. The liberal MSM was ok with that. I think their quote was "F those n____s". Ok, they weren't honest enough to say it out loud, but their actions yelled it. Those great protectors of the poor said "Let's steal from the poor. They can all go to hell." Then he said "we won't have a gesundheitspass", then he brought in a gesundheitspass and forced people to take the vaccine even though we all knew that they didn't need the pseudovax by then. Canada wasn't saved by PM Stupid, Canada was saved by virtue of the fact that we're socially distanced geographically. The population of Alberta rides the NYC subway every day. I know that you don't understand the significance of that, but don't fret, the info is just there for other people to see. Our pandemic response was a joke. By the time we started doing anything to fight it we already knew that it was a pandemic of the geriatric. Covid deaths aren't the greatest tragedy in US history. People who were about to die, died. The people who died of covid are the same people that died of the flu for the last 5,000 years. Basically all they did is lower the requirements of what was considered a flu (covid) death to "was sick within the last TWO WEEKS". FFS dude, it's a massive deal when foreign influencers confer benefits on our elected officials. Instead of spending Christmas with Canadians, Trudeau was biting a Saudi pillow and killing the Canadian energy sector. OMG dude, do you think that Clifford Olsen just massaged kids a bit to hard and then lost track of their bodies? Trudeau didn't just "ask the AG". Trudeau CREATED A LAW specifically for SNC, tucked into page 560 of an omnibus bill. He tried to force the AG to use it. He fired her. He used attorney-client privilege to stop her from talking about his crime. SNC isn't even a drop in the bucket compared to all the jobs he killed in Alberta. He didn't do that for 'Canadians'. Not even for Quebecers. He did it for a company with a court-documented history of bribing people who could help them get what they wanted. Google Michel Fournier. He got $2.3M for helping them win ONE BRIDGE CONTRACT. What Trudeau was helping SNC get access to was the ability to bid on $150B worth of infrastructure spending. You didn't even mention the WE scandal. They gave his mom half a million dollars, then he gave them a sole-source contract for $1B. Bill Morneau had to resign because his daughter made $30k a year there, less than 10% of what Margaret Trudeau hauled in. Trudeau is a scumbag's scumbag. He's a lowlife piece of shit with no redeeming qualities.1 point

Stokely Carmichael died in 1998. I didn't even look up all of those other people. Are you talking about a bunch of people who were jailed for protests before I was born, back in 1968? I don't really care about those people, we're not comparing ourselves to 1963 or 1491. There's nothing we can do about that now. The demand to lock up the woman who lied to the FBI? The one who was known to have committed a felony? The one who then went on to destroy evidence after it was subpoenaed? That Hillary Clinton? Why would anyone lock her up? Do you know that she's been interrogated twice by the FBI for crimes that she was allegedly involved in? Believe it or not, on both instances she had a head injury and couldn't remember anything. On the two days in her life when she suffered amnesia she was interrogated by the FBI both times. Such a huge coincidence. Most recently, during her 2016 election campaign, she famously "fell while going up the stairs and hit the back of her head" before she was interrogated, and she just said "I don't remember" to every single question. Then she had a miraculous recovery the next day and had perfect recall for the rest of her campaign. She even aced the first debate with Trump (she was actually caught cheating there, with Donna Brazille). Do you know that 5 of her associates were given immunity in that instance, even though they never gave the FBI any evidence or intel? Since when do the police give up something like that for nothing? It doesn't happen. I didn't expect Hillary to go to jail, but she was guilty by the simple definition of the crime and her obvious mishandling of confidential information. She should have been found guilty. Leftists are dumber than cows. It's unbearable trying to talk to such simple people.1 point

No it isn’t. By the way, MacDonald’s statues have been removed and eponymous schools have had their names changed. You keep referring to a Canada that no longer exists. If the second amendment can be creatively interpreted to mean not just owning a gun but carrying it concealed wherever you want, then the freedom from “any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States or…deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law”can be interpreted as the right to not be forced by the state to carry a pregnancy to term against your will even though it might kill you. An interesting observation about your the USSC when they recently ruled a Christian conservative school coach Joseph Kennedy has a right to privacy when he hosts prayers at taxpayer funded school football games on the 50 yard line infront of the entire crowd; “But no matter where he prayed, coach Kennedy’s prayer was private and entitled to solicitude from the state….It says a lot about the new far-right supermajority that the sphere of personal privacy and dignity travels with men wherever they go, from the locker room to the middle of the football field, whereas there is quite literally nowhere a women can hide, once she is pregnant, from the state’s interest in regulating her if it so chooses. For a man, church is everywhere, and for a woman, there is no sanctuary…Indeed, Kennedy refused to accept any of the accommodations offered by the school district that would have allowed him to pray in private—because his privacy goes wherever he goes. The 50-yard line was his intimate spiritual place because he believed it was.… In Dobbs, not only are women of reproductive age denied the personal freedom Kennedy enjoys to claim privacy wherever he goes; they are also denied his spiritual liberty. They are given no spiritual authority over their own bodies. Even their personal, private spiritual values are trammeled by the state’s theologically driven interests in “potential life” and “fetal life” and “personhood.” The state’s zone of religious control swallows the spiritual preferences of the mother herself. Whatever her own religious beliefs may be, they are immaterial if she lives in a state that claims that personhood begins at conception. If Kennedy’s very body is a church that travels wherever he goes, a Mississippi mother’s body is not even her own spiritual domain. As she moves from state to state, from public to private, she is a potential crime scene, in which her beliefs and preferences have no relevance. The state may not place itself between a football coach and his spiritual life, but it can insert itself squarely between a woman and hers.” https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2022/06/supreme-court-women-rights-versus-men.html?via=rss_flipboard1 point

Wow. I hailed both, maybe the first and the last time. But to the point, I'm not familiar with the wording but if there's anything in the Constitution that protects the right of an individual to control their body, the decision is wrong. I'm not in favor of activist judiciary, rights must be defined by the representatives of the people. However one has to interpret any text and rights in the context of these days, not long past. And in the context of today body integrity means there's no legal grounds to prohibit help to an individual exercising control over their own body. This is not a great day for American democracy that stood up to many challenges. When courts go down the ideological divide, the democracy can suffer irreparable harm. BTW, funny and hypocritical how same folks object so vehemently when government wants to inject them with something for their own good. Wait, surely somebody knows better what needs to be done to your body? But see, ideology knows no logic, it's the opposite of reason and logic actually.1 point

He is being propped up by other Republicans because he is overty 'accountable' as an independent individual but 'unaccountable' to the rest. The other members, even if they don't like him, can EXCUSE their own flaws as due to him alone for proving he IS a lone wolf actor in his decision making. The choice to keep him their is because he points to himself as the party's decision maker and relieves the burden of the latent extremism within the ideology of the Right so that they can operate under the radar. I blame the supporters who turn their heads away and who borrows the same kind of corrupt belief in DECEPTION regardless. The point here is to ask whether there even IS any realistic means to EVER hold Presidents accountable. The reason Putin opted for overt violent war against Ukraine was because he too realized how effective the power of absolution CAN be maintained for ANY act of a 'republican' style leader as himeself. If Trump can get away with murder and his own countrymen cannot do fuck all to hold him or his party accountable, it proves that he too should be as bold knowing that the rest of the world cannot do fuck all to remove him from power also.1 point
-
The original thought regarding 'republics' from Plato's ideal of having duty bound non-partisan intelligence which was assumed to be universally conforming has been corrupted by partisan politics that redefine the 'intellect' as whomever those in power alone get to decide should speak through them. That is, the concept of a "supreme court" places not those who are necessarily believers in raw intelligence but in emotionally-bound favoritism to select subsets of people with LOYALTY placed on top. So... Should we not question whether assignments to such powerful positions be placed by a single person such as the President. The postion of President no longer fits with the original concept of 'republic' either, ....as well as to the concept of "Senate". The U.S. uses the Senate as the body representing OWNERS rather than the original regional interests apart from particular people's interests, such as the envrionement. Thus, they do not represent the 'intellect' either but a type of overruler of democracy FOR the wealthy, given they command those regions in which their ownership interests are met. Should we not redress the original concepts philosophically to determine WHY what originally begins with one ideal gets perverted to serve the very opposite view of these founding concepts?1 point

Were you there with her? If not, you have no idea what the basis for the charges are. All you have is speculation. I suspect you are biased. So am I. Therefore, we are the wrong people to be making judgements. She deserves the opportunity to test the Crown's case in Court. She was given the opportunity to carry on with her life at home under conditions while she awaits her trial, but she apparently chose not to comply. Her current incarceration is her choice. If she thought the conditions were inappropriate, she should have consulted with her lawyer to appeal for an amendment to the conditions.1 point
-
The determination of her innocence or guilt will be made by the Court, not us. Any speculation on sentencing is inappropriate, since she is presumed innocent for now. As of this point in time, as far as I know, the basis for a Canada wide warrant being issued has not been made public. The alleged actions for which she was initially charged will be documented in due time and will be tested in Court. When you are out on bail, if you have any questions about the conditions, you need to consult with your lawyer. A good rule of thumb in life is when a Peace Officer tells you to move or cease doing what you are doing, it is wise to comply. A lot is made about the person who was pushed over by a horse. If she had complied with the lawful order to move in the first place, she would not have put herself in that position. It was also as though she let the poor horse shove her on purpose. If you are in doubt as to the legal basis for an order by a Peace Officer, the rule is to comply and consult a lawyer later. If the order was unlawful, take it to Court.1 point

Is NATO really more powerful since its expansion to include the Baltic states? I think NATO is spreading out its forces thinner and angering what the west perceives as war-mongering Russia by expanding eastwards. Yes, Britain is powerful militarily, but history teaches us the more you spread out, the less powerful you are. If one is pro-Russia and not pro-west, then one has even more reason to believe NATO is a provocateur as it swallows former Soviet and Soviet satellite states. From either viewpoint, NATO expansion eastward is more likely a step towards war, not peace.1 point
