  3. Trump is a dictator with the desires of unquestioned power. He's doing whatever he can to achieve that. I guess we'll see how far he gets by the 2026 midterms and 2028. There's still many checks and balances in place, but some are eroding. His supporters are either stupid, uninformed, or evil.

  10. Do you have any examples of this actually happening? It all sounds like more what-if fear mongering. $10 says in the vast majority of a very small number of cases that charges are dropped long before it gets to court. If insurance companies were paying attention they could probably make a fortune selling policies that cover legal fees in the event you're ever charged with defending yourself.

  12. What? Do you realize in many communities, emergency rooms have closed for a day or two at a time, causing some emergency cases to have to travel an hour or two to the nearest emergency room? Do you realize there are millions of Canadians that do not have a family doctor? Do you realize there are thousands of Canadians who are put on waiting lists requiring urgent care in some cases and they are forced to wait long periods of time. Some die on waiting lists. In fact there are reports of thousands of people who have died on waiting lists for care. The health care system is becoming a disaster. We pay taxes for the public health care system so why would you be concerned about a system where those who could afford it paid monthly premiums if they were reasonable and made major improvements in the health care system? Politicians control what is spent on the health care systems in each province and they are under pressure to spend money on all kinds of demands. There are shortage of public schools in parts of B.C. and not enough money for many things. We need improvements in the highways in many places, improvements in housing. We have tents cities growing everywhere. Governments have failed to provide the necessities such as a proper health care system in many places. Unless we as Canadians step up and take charge, it will not be improved, but will get worse. It is wrong to think government can solve all the problems. They can't and they simply don't have the money.

  14. Really? So the massive slaughter of Christians, Hindus, and the like throughout the centuries was all because they were fighting against Islamophobia? Is that your position? Do you have any idea how many millions of Hindus various Muslim warlords slaughtered during the so-called Golden age of Islam? Their incessant attacks on Europe only stopped when they fell into civil war themselves. Was that due to Islamophobia? There have been 66,800 terrorist attacks in the name of Islam since 9/11. Is that all responding to 'islamophobia'? I'm not seeing any progress in the Muslim world. They seem instead to be degenerating into a society of bedsheet-wearing religious fanatics.

  19. U.S. utilities seeking big hikes in electricity rates as data center demand booms Jul. 12, 2025 8:15 PM ETThe Utilities Select Sector SPDR® Fund ETF (XLU), VPU, ICLN, NGG StockPBW, ERTH, QCLN, SMOG, PBD, CNRG, ACESBy: Carl Surran, SA News Editor 5 Share Saved Play(2min) Comments (195) U.S. power companies have applied for permission to raise electricity prices by billions of dollars, driven by the costs of replacing aging infrastructure and powering data centers for artificial intelligence, according to a new report issued this week by energy affordability advocacy group PowerLines. Utilities across the U.S. have requested or received approval to increase rates for this year's H1 by $29B, more than double the cumulative amount of rate increases requested and approved at this point last year, the PowerLines report said. U.S. customers of National Grid (NYSE:NGG), for example, who are located primarily in New York and Massachusetts, are expected to see their monthly bills increase by up to $50/month as the utility received approval to increase its rates by $708M, according to calculations by the Financial Times. "What we're... seeing is a deer-in-headlights dynamic," PowerLines executive director Charles Hua told FT. "A lot of states don't have a playbook for how they can meet rising demand while balancing affordability and utility bills." The requested rate increases are also coming as coal and natural gas plants are being retired, with not enough replacement sources being built.

  20. This post isn't even parody, its just someone banging on the keyboard screaming with tears in his eyes then running it through chat GPT to make it sound profound. There is absolutely no content to it whatsoever, hell it doesn't even mention anything Trump did by name that was so bad.

  22. We're talking about a guy who just broke into another man's house with a loaded crossbow a few days ago, genius, not something that has never happened in Canada before. If there's a thing that happens in Canada, we need to have a discussion about what to do when that thing happens, so that people know what they can do when that thing happens. You just spent two years cheering for young Canadians to get jabbed with the Pfizer juice for a virus that had no chance of harming them, so who the hell are you to chide others about "being prepared for things that probably won't happen to them? You do a good job of sounding snobbish and level-headed, MH, but the things that you say are no more intelligent than the things that eyeball and ex-flyer say. Just thank your lucky stars that herbie's here.

  24. US electricity is 2x or even 3x the price of Canada’s and operates on much older generation and transmission infrastructure. Every province except Alberta (of course) has a centrally managed and publicly operated grid (Ontario still has some complexities from when far-right premier Mike Harris trashed the province but basically still a centrally managed mostly public grid). Whereas US is just shitshow of various local and private players doing their own thing with very little coordination or interest in the bigger picture beyond their own immediate interests. Happy to join the Ontario anti-American rock throwing team. I got a nice hunk of Canadian Shield granite at the ready!

  25. Not worth responding to each comment, you complain about them all. I get what's happened the past 20 years you're talking about but what do you want to do about it today. We just elected a new government 4 months ago. Good to see you get that the assets drive the ETF's price. The point is who cares what Poilievre or Carney have in their portfolio's as long as it's managed compliant with ethics laws. And you can't be serious saying Poilievre has a diversified portfolio and Carney only cares about Brookfield stock. The guy had a portfolio of 500+ entities. Is your problem with Carney or with Brookfield?

  30. As I read through the posts here I see that some folks truly don't see the problem in need of a fix and won't even acknowledge that there's some vindictiveness and heaping helping of "behaviour modification" inherent with enforcement efforts. Yes, self defence is legal in Canada and so is arrest without a warrant, in fact more people should be doing it but you have to be mindful of the pitfalls and have the ability to view a stressful situation with a level of calm and clarity most simply can't muster when immersed in it for the first time. If you happen to be someone who does we have a job waiting for you. If you haven't thought about these sort of scenarios ahead of time, you are very likely to run into trouble when pressed. If you have at some length, you will constantly and forever play a curious form of "what if" game in your mind when out and about. As I said earlier, if nothing else of value comes out of this thread do not give a statement to the police when pressed for details immediately after an event of this nature while your hands are still shaking... and don't think they won't be shaking either. Talk to a lawyer first and don't allow the police to pressure you into not doing that. If you want to take a deeper dive into this read "No More Mr Nice-guy" by Barry Holland. It's based on Canadian law and very likely to open a few eyes unless they're firmly and deliberately glued shut. Barry is a pretty interesting guy and he manages to make a fairly dry subject fun to read. He's also the sort of person who reinforces a pretty basic notion, the most dangerous guy in the room is almost never who you think it is.

  31. LOL all you got is "all you got"? Awww, pooped yourself again.? Yeah. And once again you look stupid. Harper regularly comes in as one of the top 'best prime ministers'. In fact 3 of the top 4 are conservatives, Who do Canadians think was the country's best prime minister? oopsie doodle Harper didn't leave in disgrace at all, he left a great legacy and was a popular prime minister. Trudeau was run out of his party and forced to resign, and had to flee and never even made it to an election. THAT is disgrace Nonsense. And you just make yourself look like a desperate fool when you act like that. If that's the case then the last 5 liberal leaders got kicked out in disgrace so we're still better off

  32. HA HA HA mYou LOSE again You no like??? To bad...facts mess you up again LOL. Only 9 of the past 32 years and since 1980 (45 years ago) only Mulroney and Harper have been prime ministers for a total of 18 years in the past 45 and both had to leave in disgrace. Once again, your math is bad LOL Me? Insecure? Naww, me correct and you no like LOL cpc won't even have a chance for another 3 1/2 years and if PP hangs around, that will be 5 elections in a row cpc loses LOL

  33. You don't seem to get this but I certainly acknowledge that you think you do. I doubt any scenario driven hypotheticals or actual past situations I could offer will change your thinking on it. Although statistically unlikely, this situation (an early morning home invasion by someone armed with a crossbow) could happen to anyone. I'll offer a final thought for anyone unlucky enough to experience something similar. After the event you will likely be distraught, shaken and in a state of shock. That is no time for making statements to the police even though they'll try to get one from you. Don't do it... you'll do yourself no favours by complying. Talk to a lawyer before you do and have the lawyer present during the interview. Here's another... If you own firearms you can pay a modest fee as a retainer for group coverage up to a specified amount depending on the plan you opt for. Be assured that the police are not experts in firearm regulations including storage and conveyance... If you own firearms I really think it's a mistake not to have this, it has saved a number of folks from financial ruin caused by what (in my opinion) amounts to little more than the malicious prosecution you are likely to opine doesn't even exist.

  34. So we've gone from "No the Bible doesn't have this", to then "well they're just proverbs and stories," to now this. What a journey. Is this question supposed to be a joke? You think that a group being 1/4 of the world's population, spanning the continents with all of their different races and cultures, history etc, makes it more reasonable to generalize about it? 🫠 I think it's bloody obvious that you've exercised near-zero critical reasoning on this topic. I don't know, but women were permanently imprisoned in insane asylums by their husbands/fathers up to the and into the 1900's for adultery or even just being disobedient. Sodomy was still a felony with harsh sentences in every US state until 1962. Lynchings were still carried out in the USA up to the Cold War and occasionally beyond. Question, how many stonings or executions for blasphemy do you figure happen in the Islamic world in any given year?

  38. Mr PP was desperate to win so he copied the style of politics that has been recently successful for conservative politicians in America. Unfortunately for PP, most Canadians don't support gorilla oaf politics. Dougie at least knows how to play the game a lot better. Toronto and Ontario have cautiously embraced the Ford brothers, which tells you that Canadians aren't as left-leaning as some think. PP should have copied what works in Canada instead. A lot of Canadians really, really dislike the Liberal Party (provincially and federally). Just not as much as Trump BAHAHA!

  42. Doug Ford participated in the York Region PRIDE celebration. Mr. Canada was a poster here years ago who said that he was going to attend PRIDE in Toronto with a video camera to record men having public sex, so he could do his duty and submit the evidence to the police. 🤔 Okaaaaaay, Mr. Canada. Shortly after, Anthony banned him. Then a poster named taxme joined, using a VPN to mask his IP address. Taxme has never acknowledged being the same poster.
