Trump was literally willing to make the border worse rather than allow immigrantion reform legislation to pass through congress. Mexico is our biggest trade partner and migrant workers travel seasonally and harvest most of the food in the country. Half of illegal immigration is people who enter legally (mostly through airports) and overstay their visas. The US expels millions of people every year regardless of who the president is. So Trump's cartoonish immigration policies are purely meant for political consumption rather than effective governing.

No, that's not actually accurate. The "voters" were real, but they weren't the original voters elected/appointed by the state process. However the trump lawyers were relying on a law that said the vice president has the right to appoint or accept an 'alternate' slate of voters under various circumstances. So the theory was, if pence accepted those voters without verifying and certified their results, then in fact he has accepted them as alternate voters which IS within his power and therefore they would become legitimate voters and the count would be entirely legal. That was the plan. Whether that would have stood up to legal scrutiny after the fact is another discussion entirely, but the voters weren't 'fake', even tho that's what the left likes to call it. They were real and had pence accepted them as the voters there would have to have been a legal battle to test their legitimacy.
