  2. a single Victoria Cross was awarded to a Canadian on Operation Overlord at Normandy Major David Vivian Currie, VC, CD, of the South Alberta ( Light Horse ) Regiment In Normandy on 18th August 1944, Major Currie was in command of a small mixed force of Canadian tanks, self-propelled anti-tank guns and infantry which was ordered to cut one of the main escape routes from the Falaise pocket. This force was held up by strong enemy resistance in the village of St. Lambert sur Dives and two tanks were knocked out by 88 mm. guns, Major Currie immediately entered the village alone on foot at last light through the enemy outposts to reconnoitre the German defences and to extricate the crews of the disabled tanks, which he succeeded in doing in spite of heavy mortar fire. Early the following morning, without any previous artillery bombardment, Major Currie personally led an attack on the village in the face of fierce opposition from enemy tanks, guns and infantry and by noon had succeeded in seizing and consolidating a position halfway inside the village. During the next 36 hours the Germans hurled one counter-attack after another against the Canadian force but so skilfully had Major Currie organised his defensive position that these attacks were repulsed with severe casualties to the enemy after heavy fighting. At dusk on 20th August the Germans attempted to mount a final assault on the Canadian positions, but the attacking force was routed before it could even be deployed. Seven enemy tanks, twelve 88-mm. guns and forty vehicles were destroyed, 300 Germans were killed, 500 wounded and 2,100 captured. Major Currie then promptly ordered an attack and completed the capture of the village, thus denying the Chambois-Tijun escape route to the remnants of two German armies cut off in the Falaise pocket. Throughout three days and nights of fierce fighting, Major Currie's gallant conduct and contempt for danger set a magnificent example to all ranks of the force under his command. On one occasion he personally directed the fire of his command tank on to a Tiger tank which had been harassing his position and succeeded in knocking it out. During another attack, while the guns of his command tank were taking on other targets at longer ranges, he used a rifle from the turret to deal with individual snipers who had infiltrated to within fifty yards of his headquarters. The only time reinforcements were able to get through to his force, he himself led the forty men forward into their positions and explained the importance of their task as a part of the defence. When, during the next attack, these new reinforcements withdrew under the intense fire brought down by the enemy, he personally collected them and led them forward into position again, where, inspired by his leadership they held for the remainder of the battle. His employment of the artillery support, which became available after his original attack went in, was typical of his cool calculation of the risks involved in every situation. At one time, despite the fact that short rounds were falling within fifteen yards of his own tank, he ordered fire from medium artillery to continue because of its devastating effect upon the attacking enemy in his immediate area. Throughout the operations the casualties to Major Currie's force were heavy. However, he never considered the possibility of failure or allowed it to enter the minds of his men. In the words of one of his non-commissioned officers, "We knew at one stage that it was going to be a fight to a finish but he was so cool about it, it was impossible for us to get excited". Since all the officers under his command were either killed or wounded during the action, Major Currie had virtually no respite from his duties and in fact obtained only one hour's sleep during the entire period. Nevertheless he did not permit his fatigue to become apparent to his troops and throughout the action took every opportunity to visit weapon pits and other defensive posts to talk to his men, to advise them as to the best use of their weapons and to cheer them with words of encouragement. When his force was finally relieved and he was satisfied that the turnover was complete he fell asleep on his feet and collapsed. There can be no doubt that the success of the attack on and stand against the enemy at St. Lambert sur Dives can largely be attributed to this officer's coolness, inspired leadership and skilful use of the limited weapons at his disposal. The courage and devotion to duty shown by Major Currie during a prolonged period of heavy fighting were outstanding and had a far-reaching effect on the successful outcome of the battle. David Currie was invested with his Victoria Cross by King Georve VI at Buckingham Palace on the 30th November 1944. David Currie died on the 24th June 1986 in Ottawa and was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound. SEMPER ALACER

  6. It isn't 'foreign interference' if the culprits are willing MPs | National Post The annual Special Report on Foreign Interference in Canada’s Democratic Processes and Institutions, released Monday, may end up proving to be the season’s Canadian political page-turner. Five years of NSICOP publishings have quickly shifted in tone from relative bureaucratic checked-outed-ness, to “a dreary enumeration of profound ethical and possibly criminal transgressions committed by Canada’s senior politicians, mostly but not exclusively by the governing Liberals.” Those profound ethical and ‘possibly’ criminal transgressions carry more weight this time when a government finds itself at 24-26% in the polls, and foremost national security experts finally feel comfortable enough to say "This is textbook treason." I suspect one of them (the Liberals refuse to name names) may be Han Dong. The names you end up hearing will not surprise you. What may surprise you is what little care went into covering up these matters in the first place. Almost as if they didn’t care. Almost as if they never respected you, or the office in the first place. Almost as if they’re traitors. It’s about the continued fundamental disrespect being shown towards those who are simply trying to scrape by, keep their kids safe, and afford a home, while a ruling political class’s eyes largely remain on scamming as much money as possible from their privileged positions of power. I will be surprised if anything comes of this. The RCMP have proved to be extremely reluctant to charge anyone in the Liberal government with anything.

  10. What are you being silly about? That's hardly the first time I've said that. Only a lunatic thinks that the weather never changes on earth, and I'm satisfied based on the evidence that humans play a role and a substantial role at that. I just am not sold on the idea that it's a massive crisis and that we're all going to die. I am even less sold when someone tries to tell me that if we pay more money in taxes the problem will go away. And when those same people call me some sort of denier for pointing out simple and verifiable truths about the carbon tax or EVS then it becomes pretty obvious that they're not interested in the science and that their opinion is colored by "Muh Feels" and not facts. I think it's a very serious issue but I am not convinced that it is the crisis that some people make it out to be or that the solutions that they propose are in any way shape or form remotely relevant and that they primarily exist to line the pockets of others.

  18. The war in Ukraine has begun three years ago, and we have been sending Ukrainians all the necessary support ever since. But the war is not over. Now it's become a slaughter where people from different countries get killed. With that, Ukraine goes on losing it's territory. I think, given the circumstances, the US has to admit that this conflict doesn't bring us any significant benefits and leads to a waste of it's weapons. I've just watched an interview with prof. Mearsheimer who studies international relations. Having no illusions, he explained in detail why there's only one way Ukraine can end this conflict – by becoming a neutral state and refusing the idea of joining NATO. Moreover, according to him, it's neutrality must be permanent. If it doesn't happen, the war won't end, and the West's shipment of arms only encourages this scenario. I actually agree with Mearsheimer because we can supply our weaponry to Ukraine but it surely doesn't end the conflict. The only option for the US is to stop supplying the arms and steer Ukraine towards a diplomatic solution. Also, the US is said to have something to lose, which is not true. The American Conversative (https://www.theamericanconservative.com/?p=467849) did research on the subject. First, the shipment of arms to Ukraine earns the US nothing wasting it's resources. Second, helping Taiwan now is a priority as it has many semiconductor and IC plants. If China takes over Taiwan, the US economy, unlike Ukraine's, will suffer huge losses. Third, Ukraine's neutrality doesn't mean it's lack of independence. For example, Finland once became neutral and now is a rich and developed state. Fourth, it doesn't change the US security as we are separated from Russia by an ocean and multiple allies. We have to think what we really want for Ukraine: endless massacre or peace? If we are to really help them, then we must encourage it's peace negotiations with Russia and use our leverage to reach a better agreement.

  23. For sure. But that's kind of the point, it's better to eliminate the need to supply weapons and support in order to retain political interest in an area in the face of the Russians offering the same thing. If the Russians are too busy worrying about their own needs to provide anyone else with weapons then the US doesn't run into the same problem where they have to. Or so the argument goes but it is probably having a significant impact in the situation in israel right now. Who can say with certainty? Even if the Ukrainians never turn against the US given the corruption there it's possible that the weapons that were given to them will fall into the hands of someone who would. Certainly the Russians didn't expect that the weapons would be used against their forces when they originally left them there back in the day. I mean let's get real, the best solution is that everybody stays in there own corner of the world and quit screwing around with everyone else. But that's not going to happen. So all you can do is make your best choice, and no choices without risk. I think it should be clear to everybody that regardless of whether or not you support the idea of weakening Russia or not, this war cannot go on forever. Russia has already been weakened, it's material stockpiles and supplies of war depleted, the effectiveness of its equipment has been discredited, it's reputation as a military power has been reduced. Meanwhile on the other side all of the stocks of older material that the allies were happy to get rid of have been used up, any of the weapons testing that they would have liked to see in real world experience has been done and the cost of maintaining the war is climbing. So there is severely diminishing return to keep it up even if you are a subscriber to the idea of weakening Russia by supporting the conflict. I mean, they can't just carry on paying 20 to 40 billion a year in perpetuity I would think

From Conservapedia: "The Russia-Ukraine War was a proxy war started by the United States in 2014 with the violent overthrow of the democratically elected government of Ukraine[5] with the aid of neo-Nazi forces.[6] There are multiple issues that led to the Russian incursion into Ukraine in February 2022:[7] ethnic cleansing of native Russians in the Donbas region and unrelenting shelling of civilian communities by the Maidan regime since 2014; defending the Russian homeland against NATO aggression; the Kyiv regime's discrimination against Russian speaking people and making them second-class citizens in the country of their birth; collective security between the Donbas Republics and the Russian Federation under Article 51 of the UN Charter; the 2014 NATO overthrow of the democratically elected government; the murder of at least one hundred protesters by U.S.-backed neo-Nazis during the Maidan coup; the burning alive of at least 48 anti-Maidan protesters in the Odessa Trade Unions House massacre and subsequent cover up by the U.S.-backed Maidan regime; existence of the Maidan regime's Myrotvorets kill list public website of "enemies of Ukraine; the United States and NATO's violation of the Naval and Ground Warfare Hague Conventions; NATO's desire to dismember the Russian Federation in order to seize its oil and gas reserves using Ukrainian troops as cannon fodder; continued efforts by the CIA to subvert and overthrow the legitimate governments of Belarus and Russia; NATO infiltration into Ukraine and supplying weapons and training to neo-Nazi groups; NATO's violation of the Joint Allied Ceasefire Declaration of May 1945 ending World War II which declared membership in a Nazi organization a crime; NATO-Ukraine's destruction of monuments to soldiers who defeated Adolf Hitler, Nazi Germany, and fascism and liberated the territories of Ukraine; efforts to dispose of old Soviet-era weapons stockpiles among former Warsaw Pact members and upgrade them with modern standard NATO equipment; the presence of 46 U.S. biological laboratories doing research with dangerous pathogens on the territory of Ukraine near the Russian border; the transformation of Ukraine into a testing ground for pharmaceutical experiments by Big Pharma in circumvention of international safety standards and to by-pass regulations, informed consent, and disclosure laws in Western countries;[8] to turn Ukraine into a testing ground for the newest NATO weapons;[9] Burisma oil and gas holdings in the Donets Basin; efforts by the United States to scuttle Germany and other NATO allies dependency on Russian gas, kill the Nord Stream 2 pipeline trade agreement, and force NATO allies to purchase US liquified natural gas (LGN) for home heating and cooking at higher prices; competition between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union over the boundaries of their respective trade zones, playing a central role in the illegal Maidan coup; violation of the assurances given by NATO not to expand eastward beyond the Oder–Neisse line which in exchange Soviet leaders consented to the re-unification of Germany; so the United States can place nuclear missiles on the Ukrainian border only 5 minutes from Moscow to blackmail Russia into being subservient to Washington; the U.S. withdrawal from the INF Treaty; the petrodollar system, which Russia has the potential to compete with and disrupt; religious sectarian rivalry between orthodox churches claiming to be the legitimate Orthodox Church of the Ukrainian people,[10][11] which has led to violations of religious liberty by the Kyiv regime per the UN Human Rights Commission;[12] the Culture War as Leftists in the West attempt to extend their agenda into Ukraine with gay pride marches to challenge the conservative values of both Ukrainians and Russians.[13]".

So your argument is that trump made such a bad deal that it was obvious to everybody that it was terrible and nobody should go through with it. But it's also your contention that it's not Biden's fault that he chose to exercise this arrangement rather than cancel it or change it. Biden talks to dead people and falls off of stationary bikes and lies constantly, they are either lies or his brain is pudding and he actually believes this crap. That dude had the gall to say inflation was 9% when he took off and he brought it down. The man got a bottomless Pinnochio from the Washington Post. If you want to get technical, sure it was the prosecutors. one of which used to work for the dems and biden until just a month or so before the charges were laid, who made the charge. But in this case we're talking about the same people, they worked very hard together to make it happen. Thats why the judge allowed it, that's why the judge refused to dismiss, that's why the judge refused a change of venue (can't have impartial people judging it after all). This was a joke of a trial with a charge that so obviously bent the law into a pretzel to try to prevent a man from running for president that it isn't funny.
