What is Trump if not a lightweight celebrity? He's not a thinker or a politician. Just a guy with an insatiable ego who was looking for the next fix after hosting a reality TV show. Maybe he should shut up and pretend to be a successful businessman on TV?3 points

IF anything, it is US CORPORATE "hegemony" and US government looking the other way. However, foreign investment OFFERS JOBS. The WARFARE is responsible for them FLEEING their country. Doing laundry is a perfectly respectable occupation. Often done to help their kids attend college. I have plenty useful to say. I ONLY call you juvenile names in RESPONSE to YOUR GRATUITOUS INSULTS. Don't like it? Then STOP being a huge a-hole and TROLL.2 points

No one anywhere "gets a pass." But the silly--and common--refrains like "shut up and dribble" or "shut up and sing" that are often leveled at celebrities are just saturated with irony.2 points

So you believe Swift deserves the death threats from the MAGA CULT that are common when Trump attacks people who oppose him, just for endorsing his opponent? That doesn't seem REMOTELY FAIR. In fact it would be another case of Trump inciting VIOLENCE for political advantage. 🤮2 points

This is quite true. If you really study history, you will note that the rise in the populations support for the nazis was due directly to the communist and left wing violence of the time repressing anyone who disagreed. Things like the red wedding (no - not game of thrones) incident really pushed people towards ANYONE who said they could bring it to a halt, and hitler promised that. We're repeating history a bit here. Many elements of the left became all about cancel culture and 'punch a nazi' (and anyone who disagreed with them was a nazi) and violent protests whenever someone they didn't like wanted to speak at a university or anywhere else. "antifa" began fascistly attacking people who held demonstrations they didn't approve of. With the left going authortarian left the authortarian or 'far' right rises to meet it, and this is what ALWAYS happens. We need to get back to some basics. Both left and right have to appreciate that everyone has a right to speak and share their ideas, even if they're distasteful to you. The solution to bad ideas is more discussion, not less. Nothing cleanses like sunlight And we have to bring back reason and get people's heads OUT of their echo chambers and get people looking facts up and away from confirmation bias. The solution to most of our 'social' ills has always been honest if spririted discussion with mutual respect for each other as people if not their position and we find something we can agree on. Nowadays you just don't see that, and even the people who WOULD prefer that tend to give up on it.2 points

https://archive.ph/HhfCD “I felt so detached from my body, and the way it was developing felt hostile to me,” Powell told me. It was classic gender dysphoria, a feeling of discomfort with your sex. Reading about transgender people online, Powell believed that the reason she didn’t feel comfortable in her body was that she was in the wrong body. Transitioning seemed like the obvious solution. The narrative she had heard and absorbed was that if you don’t transition, you’ll kill yourself. “I wish there had been more open conversations,” Powell, now 23 and detransitioned, told me. “But I was told there is one cure and one thing to do if this is your problem, and this will help you.” Many transgender adults are happy with their transitions and, whether they began to transition as adults or adolescents, feel it was life changing, even lifesaving. The small but rapidly growing number of children who express gender dysphoria and who transition at an early age, according to clinicians, is a recent and more controversial phenomenon. Bottom line - kids who transition at young ages as we're now seeing in Canada frequently grow up to regret it, with bodies that can never be repaired. Alberta, sask, pei and any other province is absolutely correct to make sure that teachers are forced to involve parents early on when their children exibit signs of transgender behavior or gender dysphoria and parents are RIGHT to question if this is real or a phase and which treatments are best. It may well be the kid eventually transitions and that's fine but it's not ok to ruin their lives for virtue points.1 point

The McDonald-Laurier Institute has come out with their 'report card' on our criminal justice system and after years of Trudeau and his soft-on-crime policies, it's - not good. But then, would we expect it to be? A system that prioritizes racial virtue signaling over justice could hardly be expected to be fair. A legal system run by judges appointed for their progressive views can hardly expect to deliver stern punishment to offenders. Laws written by virtue-signaling fools can hardly expect to keep Canadians safe. The homicide and sexual assault rates are the highest they've been in thirty years, with the violent crime index the highest it's been in 16 years. Police, hamstrung by new laws, are solving fewer cases, and fewer of those are actually resulting in punishment. Court cases are taking longer, too. https://macdonaldlaurier.ca/report-card-criminal-justice-system/jsrc2023/1 point

It's little more than a fad and a great big distraction. I can't stand the way extremes on both sides of this culture war react to one another and I can't stand the way politicians on both sides exploit that. There are far far more important issues being neglected and above all else, I really can't stand the way politicians exploit this issue to avoid them.1 point

If this is happening then the whole system has failed that one child, from the school board to the police or parents...This issue effects a lot of children, trans or otherwise. If the schools are not protecting our children then there are other routes you can take to prevent all of this....As for some parents being part of the problem, there are solutions for that as well, with many different people trained in what to do if a child is suspected of child abuse.... I think it is trendy, why is it there are more cases of children not happy with their sex than in any other time in history. This is a mental health problem, how could it not be, if some are considering suicide...this has been one of the narratives of the Trans community...It is dangerous, life threatening even...if parents were required approval of any name changes, or different pronouns used...That is a huge red flag that there is a problem and that problem is a mental health issue.,..1 point

Absolutely not and will probably leave the kid sterile. At best you can undo SOME of the damage And that is simply not true. As i've just posted in this article, And the younger they transition the more likelyl they are to regret it later. Nobody "knows who they are" at 13. Your body and your mind are about to undergo MASSIVE changes. Here's the thing - if they're genuine trans when they're 13 - they're going to be trans when they're 18. They can still transition then if they feel that this is what they should do and at that point the chances of them being wrong are very very low. That's based on your years of clinical research? Generally speaking a parent is always wise to be loving and supporting no matter what but that does NOT mean that they don't quesiton, they don't look at the situation and make ADULT decisions. And then love them and support them as they deal with it. Mommie - can i have candy for dinner? No. Can i stay up all night watching tv before school? No. Can i have medical treatment that will permanently alter my body and change my entire life based on some feelings i have now as a child? Yeah - sure you probably know best right?1 point

From the article: "Ask unhappy leftists why they are unhappy and they are likely to respond that they are oppressed. This is the primary response given by unhappy leftist women, blacks, Latinos, and gays." Reminds me of the day I walked in to my first job after graduating in electrical. I was in a biomedical engineering department. There was an old guy sitting at his desk in the corner, reading his paper. He looked like he'd seen it all. Above his desk there was a sign: "Poor planning on your part does not necessitate an emergency response on my part." - Education1 point

We import 30 percent of our food. Although it's only that high because we export 50 percent of what we grow. There's a complex reason for that and some have said we should change that but that's where we are. The majority of our increases come from internal supply issues and labour shortages as well as strain on supply. We're adding an insane number of people to our population each year right now and production doesn't just change overnight so it creates supply issues and that ups costs. Our imports actually did a bit better than our local stuff inflation wise last year. The dollar got a little stronger and that helps1 point

I'm inclined to be flexible on these matters. The mind of man cannot fathom even this reality that we are in, let alone understand a creator. That's why, it isn't just in your mind or in something written in a book. It is unknown, unseen, like a thief in the night. For all we know, we may have the whole thing bass ackwards. Anyway, it hardly matters if the thing is real or not. What matters is the transformative effect it has on the person, on their soul. That transformation is what leads to good works. But can good works also transform people and lead them to become better persons? Certainly seems reasonable. Good works can bring hope and inspiration to the downtrodden, leading their way to goodness themselves by example. ===== And with that I leave you people this gift, one of my favourite quotes from a book called the Acts of Peter. A non-canonical book you say? Well well well. There must be a good reason for it. Peter allowed himself to be captured so that he could be crucified, perhaps after the shame he felt for denying Jesus. But interestingly he asked that he be crucified upside down. He explained why. And when they had hanged him up after the manner he desired, he began again to say: "Ye men unto whom it belongeth to hear, hearken to that which I shall declare unto you at this especial time as I hang here. Learn ye the mystery of all nature, and the beginning of all things, what it was. For the first man, whose race I bear in mine appearance, fell head downwards, and showed forth a manner of birth such as was not heretofore: for it was dead, having no motion. He, then, being pulled down -who also cast his first state down upon the earth- established this whole disposition of all things, being hanged up an image of the creation wherein he made the things of the right hand into left hand and the left hand into right hand, and changed about all the marks of their nature, so that he thought those things that were not fair to be fair, and those that were in truth evil, to be good. Concerning which the Lord saith in a mystery: Unless ye make the things of the right hand as those of the left, and those of the left as those of the right, and those that are above as those below, and those that are behind as those that are before, ye shall not have knowedge of the kingdom. This thought, therefore, have I declared unto you; and the figure wherein ye now see me hanging is the representation of that man that first came unto birth. Ye therefore, my beloved, and ye that hear me and that shall hear, ought to cease from your former error and return back again. For it is right to mount upon the cross of Christ, who is the word stretched out, the one and only, of whom the spirit saith: For what else is Christ, but the word, the sound of God? So that the word is the upright beam whereon I am crucified. And the sound is that which crosseth it, the nature of man. And the nail which holdeth the cross-tree unto the upright in the midst thereof is the conversion and repentance of man. Now whereas thou hast made known and revealed these things unto me, O word of life, called now by me wood, I give thee thanks, not with these lips that are nailed unto the cross, nor with this tongue by which truth and falsehood issue forth, nor with this word which cometh forth by means of art whose nature is material, but with that voice do I give thee thanks, O King, which is perceived in silence, which is not heard openly, which proceedeth not forth by organs of the body, which goeth not into ears of flesh, which is not heard of corruptible substance, which existeth not in the world, neither is sent forth upon earth, nor written in books, which is owned by one and not by another: but with this, O Jesu Christ, do I give thee thanks, with the silence of a voice, wherewith the spirit that is in me loveth thee, speaketh unto thee, seeth thee, and beseecheth thee. Thou art perceived of the spirit only, thou art unto me father, thou my mother, thou my brother, thou my friend, thou my bondsman, thou my steward: thou art the All and the All is in thee: and thou Art, and there is nought else that is save thee only. Unto him therefore do ye also, brethren, flee, and if ye learn that in him alone ye exist, ye shall obtain those things whereof he saith unto you: 'which neither eye hath seen nor ear heard, neither have they entered into the heart of man.' We ask, therefore, for that which thou hast promised to give unto us, O thou undefiled Jesu. We praise thee, we give thee thanks, and confess to thee, glorifying thee, even we men that are yet without strength, for thou art God alone, and none other: to whom be glory now and unto all ages. Amen." And when the multitude that stood by pronounced the Amen with a great sound, together with the Amen Peter gave up his spirit unto the Lord.1 point

Oh, bullshit. Almost anyone sane and reasonably capable would kick Biden's ass, including either Desantis or Haley. Even Chris Christie would mop up the floor with Biden. Even Jeb Bush would kick his ass. And he isn't exactly Mr. Charisma. The only thing giving Biden the strong chance of winning is the way so many recoil at Trump. There is no evidence Trump is either smart or has ever been smart. The amount he inherited from daddy, if simply invested in the S&P, would have resulted in far and away more wealth than he pretends to have now (but won't let anyone see the evidence). As a president, his White House was inefficient at every aspect of governing and often in a near chaotic state. This according to those who worked in it as well as many of members of his cabinet. Trump is a real estate salesguy. That is all he's ever been all his life. His attempts at business have been disasters. He's a smooth talking sales guy with no sense of morality who will tell the suckers whatever it takes to make a sale, and he's transferred that to politics. Trump has never shown the slightest dedication to America until he started running for office. I find the willingness to believe this guy really incredible. We have people in the flyover states thinking he's their guy when he never showed them the slightest interest or even awareness for most of his life and did nothing for them as president. And we have guys like you who seem to think a globalist billionaire really truly cares about America as opposed to his own wealth, power and ego. Well, he's a helluva sales guy, is all I can say.1 point

That's not the definition of fascism, though. Your criticism is reasonable, but also there's an argument that emissions would have been worse had nothing been done. Did I ever pretend that Trump wasn't a philanderer? Have I ever tried to pretend that Trump didn't sleep with Playboy bunnies, porn stars, and make moves on crazy skanks? Trump's a dog. Ideally there would be a better candidate near the top, but there isn't. Not even close. Problem is that when you combine the wealth, fame and charisma necessary for a presidential run, you're dealing with a guy who gets a lot of opportunities with beautiful, motivated women. If the candidate is smart enough to run a country, they can also make the most of those opportunities with women if they want. Clinton was the same. I wouldn't want my daughter to marry Trump, but I would like to see America succeed. Trump is smarter and more capable than Joe Biden by orders of magnitude. His dedication to the US is undeniable, and Joe's loyalties are highly questionable. There's no one on earth who doesn't fully understand that.1 point

Canada as a nation has answered all the calls for foreign wars when requested..., Boar war, WWI, WWII, Korea, Afghanistan any conflict with Russia and China will some how draw us into those as well... It is not going to make a difference what they think if their government decides to send us to war then they are going to pack their stuff and go...or face jail...It has never made a difference and these new generations think it might or they might change things ...but they are wrong...they will face the music like previous generations...And like previous generations who thought we did not have to prepare for future wars, will also pay a huge price with their lives, like WWI, and WWII when the nation thought they did not need a well equipped military... But our government sent them into battle anyways, prepared or not. That lesson has not been learned yet not after WWI, WWII, Korea, not ever...because we live in a nation that does not spend money on equipment that saves lives, it is cheaper to bury our citizens than equip them, and any lessons we learn from that conflict will be quickly forgotten, along with those that sacrificed their lives...1 point

Before 1989 and the defeat of the Soviet Union, I understand such gatherings. In Yalta and Potsdam, we were creating a regime of peace - like in the Congress of Vienna But since 1990 or so, every time I see a photo of the G-20 or whatever it is now, I am reminded of this photo: https://www.rct.uk/collection/themes/exhibitions/crown-and-camera-the-british-royal-family-and-photography-1842-1910/the-queens-gallery-buckingham-palace/nine-sovereigns-at-windsor-for-the-funeral-of-king-edward-vii-1910 This photo was taken in 1910. Ordinary people lived well Within a few years, these clueless, elite created a disaster and some would be dead. For no reason at all, for the next few decades, millions of ordinary people would die. ====== We are not facing Hitler or Stalin. This is not the 1930s. We are in a world like the 1910s.1 point

Let me repeat: IMHO, this world of the 2020s is like the 1910s or so. We too have had several decades of peace. We too have a clueless elite - like in 1910. These 2020s is nothing like the 1930s. ==== JFK worried about the start of World War I. Yet thinking back, no one wanted such a war. Khrushchev had fought in Stalingrad. Kennedy had lost his brother. In the 2020s, people forget about how World War I started.1 point
