  1. No, the news media is a business. The shareholders care about credibility because politically motivated bias does not attract and hold eyes and therefore, does not attract advertising dollars, and that has a negative impact on dividend cheques. Have you noticed that the politically motivated bias media doesn't make much money? Consider the Rebel or the Daily worker. What is their circulation compared to the Globe and Mail or the National Post or even MacLeans? If you want to defund a newspaper, all you have to do is turn it into a political tool. The stock price will plummet.

  2. The hit to the economy might explain the lack of interest. IMO our Western society has grown too big and divided to really get together on anything.

  3. it's the total collapse of the Parliamentary process itself the Federal & Provincial governments are run as effective dictatorships under direct democracy by polling alone the Charter of Rights & Freedoms is completely bypassed in the name of expediency it's more than sad, it will end in catastrophe, direct democracy sailing the ship of state into the rocks inevitably

  4. During a recession ?. Canada came out of the recession probably the best out of any of the G7. Trudeau squandered it away on paying celebrities to support the vaxx, a vaxx pass system, and destruction of the energy industry to appease his buds in Europe.

  5. it was described as a hoax, well those social media posts shows people were convinced that it was the truckers, they got that opinion from the media....that it was not a hoax but fact.... .. it is one thing to show bias towards something but the way the ,media portrayed this was more of a one way slant...and it changes the story and the meaning behind it just like the Nazi flag thing everyone assumed it was a trucker, had no problem pinning it on that group........

  7. In Russia you must be well over 40 years of age, at least in the big cities, to have any memory of serious economic difficulties and shortages of all basic things. The younger generation is used to an almost western kind of lifestyle. It is going to be a rude awakening to a cabbage soup-economy and certainly not going to make them supporters of the regime and its policies.

  8. If the story is opinionated then it is not news, but rather a opinion piece, and is labeled as such...Reporting news is all about facts, and how it actually happened. There are guide lines put in place to guide all journalist in Canada for getting it wrong... Canadian Association of Journalists - Ethics guidelines (caj.ca)

  10. Nope. I see the media for what it actually is - corporately owned with an editorial bias that should be accounted for. There's no news media in the world that reports in an unbiased way. Some are far worse than others, but that really doesn't matter to all the circus clowns on this forum. When you're proposing Rebel Media or TNC as better alternatives, that's freaking cringe. You're not looking for unbiased news. You're looking for bullshit peddlers to repeat your views back to you - the alternative facts if you will. It doesn't matter that when the fact checkers and media bias monitors weigh in against you either. They're just another part of the system, maaaan.

  11. I disagree, that is what reporting used to be. Journalism, to me, is telling a story, and it can be biased and opinionated. Reporting, on the other hand, is just that, report what is going on...period.

  12. You forget that the CBC is more than just news. Quirks and Quarks, Under the Influence, North by Northwest, Marvin's Room, Backstage with Ben Hepner, Ideas, Q, As It Happens, Hockey Night in Canada, the Nature of Things, the Next Chapter, Market Place, Coronation Street, Frankie Drake Mysteries, Still Standing, Murdoch Mysteries, Kim's Convenience, etc. The purpose of a public broadcaster is to provide quality programing for the broadest audience, rather than the lowest common denominator. What private broadcaster is airing proframs like Quirks and Quarks or Ideas? I am not denegrating private broadcasting but for a small market service provider, quality programming directed at a diverse audience is not possible without public financial support. The Conservative Government that founded the CBC understood a national public broadcaster is necessary to give something for everyone. If you defund the CBC, can you assure that quality programming in science, liturature and culture will continue?

  13. The CBC actively defends the Trudeau government. It’s not about the criticism of Trudeau; it’s about attacking the credibility of Trudeau’s critics. We’re right back to the coverage of the freedom convoy. The CBC has lost credibility.

  14. What happens in American politics can have an effect on Canadians. Don't you remember the mouse and elephant analogy from PET? Pipelines, lumber, tariffs...all of those issues and more are important to Canadians.

  17. What the Libs and NDP are doing is perfectly acceptable in a parliamentary democracy. In fact, most countries like ours are more relaxed about coalitions than we are, often between parties with far less in common. Regarding JT losing the popular vote, Mr. Harper seemed quite happy with our antiquated FPTP system while in office. I’d prefer a tighter grip on the budget but the people have spoken, have chosen a left-wing parliament and that is that.

  18. No, once again read some of the posts .... He is blaming his problem on his drug problem and is going to seek help...by all means do it while he is in prison....He used is position to gain money, and should do time for it...

  19. Why do you think social media posts are relevant to this discussion? ? Again, what false news? They reported an investigation into links to the truckers, and found none. At best you've demonstrated an editorial bias, which every news source has, but they even corrected yourself. This is pretty boring stuff.

  20. Social programs are good but unfortunately too much is politically driven rather than for actual good. That is to say I probably do lean left but the left is horribly inefficient at allocating money into social programs. Giving money to people to buy things like homes for example. Or continually funneling money into reservations which have no economic future. The right in recent years hasn't been much better, shoveling money to corporations instead. At least the right would increase military spending, which isn't a total waste as that can do some good in the world. The sickness I think is that government always wants to be seen as 'doing something' even if that something is usually a complete waste of money.

  21. Well Skippy tell us what has you so proud these days, is it Justins reception at the EU parliament, or him walking around telling everyone to step up while his own nation gave peanuts...is it his indecision to commit to 2 % GDP for NATO, or his handling of getting Afghanistan interrupters out of Afghanistan, and now he is doing the same for Ukrainians, or so we think...maybe it's the cost of fuel, and everything else, or how a good portion of Canadians being outprices from the housing market.... maybe it is how we treat our vets, or scoff at our military... please tell us what your so proud of...

  22. The point is that Trudeau supports democracy abroad and totalitarianism at home. He’ll toss out the constitution and declare martial law to trample the opposition in Canada but make self-righteous phoney hypocritical speeches about saving democracy in Ukraine.

  25. Fascist Zelensky just seized control of the media in Ukraine. Why? What is he afraid of? That maybe the other side of the story of his corrupt BiDumb alliance may get exposed by chance? The fascist has also banned all other political parties, apparently to try and stop dis and misinformation. What dis or misinformation is he talking about? Is he afraid of what other political party leaders have to say about his corrupt fascist regime? When a political leader has to seize control of the media, and bans all other political parties, there must be something going on here? Something big to hide. This whole Russian/Ukraine feud kind of reminds me of how the Canadian MSM went bonkers over covid. Constant brainwashing every day that if we do not wear masks or get fully vaccinated we are all going to die. All this 24 hours of this Russian/Ukraine feud smacks of just more lying and more brainwashing fascist bull chit. So many kept in the dark peasants seems to enjoy their daily pablum of nonsense and lies. When will they ever get it? Probably never. Aw well. Carry on, Canada. ?

  26. Not surprising. Like I said before I've mostly supported the Conservatives my entire life. If I'm going to get screwed by the public sector or by corporations, I'll usually choose the corporations. Why? Because raising corporate tax rates or introducing new competition laws or regulations is relatively easy. Once a new public sector union contract is set, however, that's the new baseline. You can't go back anymore. Where you and I disagree is on identity politics, ideology and hyperbole.

  27. I am curious as to why peaceful protests against covid mandates in Calgary and Edmonton have suddenly become a crime and any covid protests on those streets in those cities is now against the law. But there seems to be no problem with peacefully protesting against the feud going on between Russia and the Ukraine. Parade and demonstrate all you want too. No problem. So, why is some protests okay while others are not? I guess it all depends on what side of the political fence that one sits on. Covid mandate protests appear to be a no-no anymore. ?

  28. Nevermind that the Toronto Sun is...mainstream news, here's a few more: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-trudeau-european-parliament-criticism-speeches/ https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/european-mps-blast-pm-trudeau-for-handling-of-freedom-convoy-after-brussels-speech-1.5833652 https://nationalpost.com/news/world/european-mps-denounce-trudeaus-handling-of-convoy-protest-in-surreal-speech Gosh is that CTV in there? IT CANNOT BE TRUE! Criticizing him for the Emergencies Act is all well and good, and it does sort of feel good seeing him taken down a notch, but some of the comments are pretty...dumb. "Worst kind of dictator"...yeaaah okay.

  29. No. You haven't. That's why I keep asking. If you had it, you'd post it. You don't. You provide worthless anecdotes nothing at all, or you post garbage links directing people to french-language facebook profiles, video clips you misquote, or Pfizer documents you comically misinterpret. The reason is that you're not actually doing this research yourself. You're just reposting the imbecilic hot-takes you trawl off the garbage web and trip over yourself trying to make sense of them when someone questions them after the fact. My days are fine, thanks Karen. I don't need to waste my time on goof websites looking for things to rage about. ?

  31. Interesting. Should I assume that the entire time Trump was being accused of everything from purgery to treason, that you felt he was innocent till proven guilty and was satisfied with the outcome of the 2 impeachments? May I also assume that, given the evidence against Hunter and his dad, that an investigation such as was done to Trump, would be warranted at this time? That the media is derelict in their duty to report the truth and to pursue the truth? Personally...I could care less if any of the Biden's ever go to jail. I just want them DESTROYED! Financially, socially, politically DESTROYED! I want the legacy of the name Biden, to be synonymous with scum. I want history to reflect the facts and truth of this POS and his son. His brother too.

  34. I didn't even remember that story until you mentioned it just now, which is exactly why it was the perfect story for the MSM. They use something like that in the moment to gin up more hatred of the convoy, knowing that by the time we find out the truth, if ever, the damage to the Freedom Convoy will have already been done, and the feeling that was created by that story will remain in the hearts of the sheeple. All that this really does is help diminish the credibility of the MSM, but the sheeple will never acknowledge it anyways. The MSM provides them with all of their little 'causes' so that they can feel like SJWs, and the sheeple are addicted to that feeling. They'll protect their internal image of their MSM like a heroin addict will protect their stash. When the story first came out I found it just a little too perfect that the fire was 1) small and innocuous 2) in a spot that was relatively safe and 3) where it would be caught on video, and 4) it was placed there just moments before a good samaritan just happened to come by. It wasn't lit, it was Smol-litt.
