  1. I wanted to start this thread to have (hopefully) a more sober discussions about what's happening with Trudeau's latest steps and not have it devolve into nonsense. I came across this article today and I think it makes a fair point. Whether you're for or against the Trucker's Protest, I think the Emergencies Act raises a few eyebrows. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-by-invoking-the-emergencies-act-the-feds-go-from-no-action-to-the/ "The federal government’s decision to go from virtually no action to the nuclear option to tackle the convoys that have paralyzed downtown Ottawa and seized control of select border crossings to the United States should come with an explanation. That is not an opinion. The Emergencies Act states that “a declaration of a public order emergency shall specify concisely the state of affairs constituting the emergency,” though no written explanation was produced Monday, when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced he was invoking the act for the first time since its creation in 1988, even though provisions under the act came into force immediately." The article goes on to explain how law enforcement did next to nothing about the protestors for weeks and enforced not even basic/obvious bylaw violations, but then all of the sudden the government elects to go for the most extreme tools at its disposal without properly explaining the reasoning behind it. Up until recently the complaints about freedom and liberty were, as far as I'm concerned, just a lot of silliness. With the Emergency Act invoked, Trudeau offers at least some credibility to those complaints and sets a bad precedent. Do I think Trudeau's seizing power and that this is the death of democracy in Canada? Not for a second. I do, however, think he's handling things extremely poorly and we need an explanation forwhy this particular protest couldn't be handled in the same way as others like the G20.

  3. Indeed...the government response to protests against tyranny is now even more tyranny. This is not what democracy looks like. The Trudeaus always did admire Castro...Justin should start wearing green fatigues.

  6. Do you think he would have had to invoke the powers of the act if the policing had been handled better from the start?

  10. Really? You think he'd ever resign? I certainly don't. The reason these protests are even happening is because truckers knew that Trudeau was so narcissistic and pig headed that he would stick to his decision to punish the unvaccinated for as long as possible, regardless of what the science is saying. There needed to be push back. Many other countries were dropping mandates. Then provinces started to drop mandates. But the Libs with support of the NDP wouldn't even allow for a plan to end them. Seriously, that plan could have said the mandates will end in a year but that wasn't good enough for ol' JT. He continues to double down on his hatred for the unvaccinated and for that reason I don't see him ever relinquishing power as Covid will never end in his mind.

  11. I wasn't surprised to see the Ottawa police chief resign amidst all this. It would be interesting to get a proper explanation on why they sat on their hands and did basically did nothing for weeks. My impression at first was they figured they didn't have the resources to do it properly/safely, but that explanation fails when the protests continue past the first week.

  12. Agenda 2030.. this is just the start. By then everything will be digital from your vehicles to the heat in your home to your bank account. This happens again where peaceful people drive across the country to make their voices heard? Well the government will stop that somewhere on the highway by freezing your vehicle.

  15. You are misinformed. By the media. The truth is - the video of the cops hugging the protesters. The truth is - the cops got a call, a tip, from someone saying they were thinking of doing something and had guns. The guns were taken from a private home in the area. Stop reading MSM. They are liars.

  21. I hear alot of people making a big deal about old ladies in Texas sending the trucker convoy some money. I would submit to you that it's in the world's interest that Canada is a free nation. Many countries look to Canada to lead the way on Civil rights issues and peace keeping missions and being a voice for human rights. When our nation strips away basic human rights such as having fair access to services because of a private medical decision, then Canadians have an obligation to clean up the filth in our own back yard. As other nations look to Canada to lead the way on personal freedoms, I can see why people would donate to a cause that's promoting and upholding human rights for all.

  22. Trump never "cleared the streets" for the entire nation. If you are comfortable with what Trudeau has done here, that's fine. But other Canadians will rightfully disagree...or is that not allowed anymore either ? Canadian or American...the larger issue is plain to see...or ignored by partisan folks. Martial law use to be for Haiti...not Canada.

  27. Careful bud. This is an attempted insurrection. You and a number of others on here appear to be supporting it which may be accessories to crime. Most of the protesters don't even know themselves they are being used by a hard core of highly organized insurrectionists trying to over throw the Parliamentary system and government. They are being used. The people on here are also being used by them. They was all sold as just a peaceful protest for freedom. That is not what it is at all.

  28. Pfizer and Moderna's lobbying goes far beyond just governments. They spend billions to influence legacy media as well. When you look at every time the press claims myocarditis is "mild", they are doing the bidding of those who pay their bills. And yes the bizarre restrictions on the unvaccinated are very likely a result of lobbying. Just look at it now.. their shares have dropped 70% basically within a couple hours as more countries say no to the restrictions. It's the belt road experiment but only in the west. Create demand for a product that people don't otherwise want through manipulative sales practice and if necessary coercion. Yet you are fine with that?

  29. the tyrant Trudeau is playing on these fears the troops & cops are refusing to do his dirty work for him so he is using the Emergencies Act because it empowers the government to commit crimes this allows Trudeau to steal the truckers money to force them to submit using the Communications Security Establishment, Five Eyes, the Canadian NSA Trudeau is literally evil, satanic

  32. That's what I'm really confused about. I almost wonder if they dawdled for so long on it and people got annoyed at how weak-kneed the response was, but now that they know public support for the protests is minimal, they can beat their drums and pretend they're being tough about it now. I don't want to sound like like one of the other goofs on this forum, but that sort of 'play' would be very Trudeau - waffle and prevaricate until he knows which way the wind is blowing, and then pretend he's a man of principle and action when he knows which direction everyone wants him to face.

  34. Do you honestly think I know exactly how many truckers are and were involved in all the various protests around Canada? If you ever took a math class past grade 9 you'd know what 'significant digits' are. If I said 50,239 and there were only 41,000 then you could rightly get pissy. I said 50K, and if there are only 41,253 that's close enough. It doesn't matter if there were 64K, or if there were only 32,000. It's not germane to my point at all. Point stands: In an ideal world the PM of a western nation would be classier and tell less lies than 50,000 truckers.

  40. It is a bullshit system anyways. You elect Trudeau and he is shoving a needle in your butt or kicking you out of your job, arresting you, seizing your bank account, denying you access to social insurance services and hoping you die fast. Or you elect a stupid conservative who will be shoving oil and gas pipelines up your butt, telling you , you will prosper but for some reason you and your kin end up dying fast.

  42. Sorry, that was WastCanMan. Prime Minister Trudeau will still be in office to lead the grits into the next election. Unless the CPC come up with a really good leader, (and I don't see anyone of merit putting their name forward), or something dramatic happens, he will likely win. The CPC might have won last fall if all these anti-Trudeau people had got off their asses and actually went out and campaigned for the CPC instead of grousing and whining. That would make Mr. Singh Leader of the Official Opposition and the CPC somewhere back in the corner with the Greens, and Mr. Trudeau would have his majority. The Progressive Conservative party never formed a governmnet without a Red Tory as leader. Diefenbaker, Clark (the only man who ever beat a Trudeau), and Mulroney.

  48. I always love your flair for the dramatic. Who said anything about anyone's right to live. People who have the conditions should be getting vaccinated. Those who do not can choose not to as their risk is much different. Of course you are still stuck on the idea that vaccinated are protected from catching covid, so I can't really help you with that even though I have shown you multiple times its not true. Did the vaccines stop death? Last time I checked even the triple vaxxed where dying. Average life expectancy....78. Average Covid death 80. People die...all the time. Stop being dramatic about it. 8,000 to 10,000 people per year died from flu and pneumonia in Canada. Over two years that's 20,000 people. Covid has killed 35,000 people in Canada over two years. Of course, we know the flu deaths are low because they never really tracked them (especially like Covid) and we know the Covid deaths are embellished as anyone with Covid gets marked as a Covid death. What's the truth? Covid is definitely more severe than the flu but its not what you make it out to be. Again, your reading comprehension fails you. I have broken out the people with or without conditions for this exact reason...to protect the ones that are more likely to die. Most people don't need protection. Giving them a jab was pointless. I loved hearing my vaccinated friends tell me they were protected and then they suffered worse symptoms than I did when we all caught covid. Did I need it? Not even close. Does my overweight, diabetic friend need it. YES. The decision to get it comes down to each person as each person is different.

  49. You are correct that judges and courts are jot involved in making the law. The law gets made in parliament by the Legislative and Executive branches and once it gets passed it then receives Royal Assent (which is a symbolic formality) and that’s it, it’s been made and it is now the law of the land. If you violate it then you’re subject to whatever penalized it specifies….. BUT THEN concerned citizens, interest groups etc can launch a legal challenge of the law for various reasons including that they believe it violates the constitution and THAT is when the courts get involved. Even if they don’t launch a legal challenge as soon as someone gets charged under the law and defends themselves in court (as opposed to just pleading guilty). The point is that someone must actually make an effort to challenge the law in court, it doesn’t happen automatically when the law is made. Then a judge can rule that the law is deficient (again for any number of reasons, not just constitutionality) Those other reasons include that the law contradicts another law, or is too unclear to be applied, and sometimes even based on how the court feels a reasonable person acting in good faith would behave in real-life situations. This is what it means to “interpret” the law: what does it mean and did this accused person violate that meaning? For example: The law says you cannot use a firearm in a reckless and dangerous manner. But what qualifies as “reckless” or “dangerous” and did the actions of the accused actually meet this qualification? What if the accused is a firearms expert and champion marksman, vs if he is someone who has never held a gun before? And what difference, if any, should that make in their particular case? Perhaps because he’s an expert and knew exactly what he was doing it wasn’t reckless. Or perhaps because he’s an expert he ought to have known better. It depends on the specific situation. Only the courts can decide these kinds of things So your question is why isn’t this done up front during the parliamentary lawmaking process. Well the lawmakers in parliament try, all proposed laws are extensively studied in Committees who hold hearings and receive testimony from various experts, concerned citizens etc but they can’t think of every possible hypothetical situation where a well-meaning law could be applied in real life. And politicians in parliament don’t necessarily give the same weight to the arguments they hear in committee as a judge would in court with lawyers strongly debating both sides.
