My friend, who is Chinese and not even conservative, peacefully protested with his family on Parliament Hill. No violence, no threats, just Canadian flags. They can't tell you to turn your camera off, it's the only thing we have to protect ourselves. Many Canadian police, including Ottawa police, don't wear body cameras. In court it's their word against yours. Don't interact with police without your cell camera running. This includes during a traffic stop. Unless you're driving a car you don't have to give them your name, date of birth, where you live, show them your ID etc. unless you are being legally detained and they have reasonable grounds to suspect you have committed a crime. You can deny such a request. You don't have to answer any of their questions. During a traffic stop they have no authority to check inside your vehicle unless they have a warrant or you have committed some kind of crime that would warrant a car search. A cop may ask "is it ok if I look in your trunk?" etc. Do not consent, they want you to waive your rights. They need your consent to search without a warrant and without cause.
