  4. The purpose is to create a deterrent effect and send a message, the red carpet for illegal migrants has been lifted by popular demand, you will be caught and deported. As I've said here before there is no joy in this, in fact I'm angry that it was allowed to happen at all, more so when you consider it was allowed to fester to the point of predictable backlash. There's a "what did you think was going to happen" question in all of this that the people who created the problem fail to answer... not surprising perhaps since they fail to even acknowledge their own culpability in creating the mess. Instead they demonize people actually enforcing the very laws of the land that they wilfully ignored. No one is feeding illegals to alligators. As Roboduh would say: Sorry (not) ^this OPINION means NOTHING because you have NO CREDENTIALS to make ^these judgements and NOT CITED ANY CREDENTIALED EXPERTS WHO DO. Every once in a while the critter gets something right by accident. So again.... this is valuable from a deterrent perspective, especially with regard to lunatic progressives who attack facilities and assault federal officers. Contrary to popular belief, this likely wasn't the choice of champions in terms of location.... it was simply to prevent problems. There's a lot about this I don't like BTW but I'd have done the same thing for exactly the same reason. Not sure what you see as different between the holding cells based on incumbent administrations over the years. They're of a common (meaning similar) design found across the board even thought they are modular and thus customizable to some extent. Say ATCO trailers, ISO shelters or BATs to any soldier and they know exactly what you mean even though some of the layouts/utilities can vary. This is pretty much that.

  8. As Conservative columnist Andrew Coyne recently wrote: “Once upon a time there was a village menaced by a giant ogre. The villagers met to decide how to respond. “We must give him what he wants,” said one of the villagers. “Then he will go away.” “No,” said another. “We must respond with purpose and force.” In the end the villagers tried a little of both approaches. Neither succeeded, because the ogre didn’t really know what he wanted and didn’t respond rationally. So they just had to muddle through. THE END …As entertaining as it is to watch the famously smooth Mr. Carney flailing about, it is hard to see how any other prime minister would have done any better. Indeed, he is in good company. The whole world is dealing with similar threats. It is, in fact, impossible to negotiate with Mr. Trump, because a) he does not have any consistent or coherent set of demands, and b) if he did, there is no reason to think he would live up to any undertaking he made in return. …It’s possible his attraction to tariffs has another basis: because they place him at the centre of the action. Everyone has to pay attention to him – to be “nice” to him, as he so often puts it. If so there is not much that anyone can really do with that. There is no “win-win,” as in most negotiations. There is only a problem to be managed, a matter of stalling for time and presenting as small a target as possible, until Mr. Trump grows too old or enfeebled to menace us further.” https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-mark-carney-donald-trump-tariff-negotiations/

  11. Manufacturing is a tiny piece and least profitable part of the market, that's WHY it's been abandoned and outsourced over the last 50 years. It's almost as The Blob's bawling and snivelling over Canada's dairy policies. A fart in a windstorm to the US economy. And manufacturing itself has changed dramatically in that time. The USA neither has the workers, the managers, the engineers nor the supply chain to make it worth clawing back. SERVICES are the mainstay of the economy. Not making things. Let the Indians refine pig iron and machine drive shafts in the living room. Bring them in, mark it up, and sell the "extended warranty". Why do you think I dumped my retail store? Why order parts, train and pay staff, lose sleep over stock, ordering and pricing? I don't build the computers anymore, I just fix them. ZERO cost to me, 100% profit because YOU don't know how to do it or don't want to do it but you need it. Do you think your local auto mechanic makes the bulk of his money selling the parts? Wake up!

  13. So the guy that saw the pee tape and took phone calls from Russian shock jocks (and thought they were spies) and led the sham of an impeachment case is a fraudster, himself. Trump says ‘scam artist’ Adam Schiff must be ‘brought to justice’ for mortgage fraud after DOJ criminal referral Apparently Schift4brains listed his Maryland home as his primary residence. Tisk tisk. You can't be the Senator or Rep from California if you don't live in California. Such a shame that a fine and up standing democrat would have to go to jail. Scratch that. 'Bout damn time!

  14. it's why it's such an easy task to shut you down. Obvious facts and simple reasoning can be stated concisely in a couple sentences. You, on the other hand, are compulsively driven to pounding out longwinded and deranged emotional rants, pleading and insisting through paragraphs and paragraphs of useless insults and wishful fantasy that you didn't just make a fool out of yourself for the 1000th time.

  18. Good. I imagine many US companies that rely on affordable aluminum and countless other resources would feel the pinch. We have much more cheap energy than the U.S. We have greenhouses. We have all we need and for the rest there’s Europe, S America, Asia, Africa. Let Trump stoke anger here. Cancel all travel to the U.S. Sell all vacation properties in the Southern US. Turn to Cuba, the Carribean, Central America…. Obviously these are radical moves that are less desirable and that we shouldn’t have to take, but we should be prepared to take them if necessary. I can promise you that if we go down this road, there will be much more Canadian independence and a much worse relationship with the U.S.. The people who’ve been thrown out of work because of the US tariffs are waiting for public solidarity.

  22. That is stupid. There would be absolutely no reason for that. If your goal is to move to automation then the more logical response would be to build the other jobs and then as people are leaving the industry will be motivated to put in automation instead as the labor force dries up But in any case it would still be completely unnecessary and even counterproductive to bring the jobs back to America First only then to have to pay to have those jobs eliminated and converted to something else. You're not making yourself look good here bud, think it through. What you are saying makes no sense Read it again cuz you're not doing great

  23. Stop with the misdirection now. Carney talked up his retaliatory tariffs during the campaign. Then he went to the WH, got whipped like a dog on international TV, and secretly removed almost all of the tariffs, but then pretended that they were still on during the debates. That was embarrassing rollover #1. Carney trumpeted his new tax on American social media giants, the DST, then Trump sent out a mean tweet and Carney instantly nixed it. The CBC tried to spin it as "Carney unilaterally scrapping the DST to improve trade relations", but we all know that he did it because Trump told him to.That was embarrassing rollover #2. We all know that there have been endless other rollover moments, ie moments when Trump announced new tariffs and whatnot and Carney just did nothing or made a statement that he had to retract, but those were the big ones. OMG, dummy. Either your IQ is abysmally low, you have the memory of a goldfish, or you're a weasel and a cultist: Trump gushed about Carney because he wanted the weakest adversary to get elected Trump gushed about Putin and KJU in the past as well. He even talked up the Taliban leaders when he was negotiating with them. It's what he does, you mouth-breathing imbecile. He makes it easy for other leaders to sign shitty deals by publicly praising them. "This is a great guy. Look at him signing on all these documents I sent him." Further to #1, Trump knows that if Carney signs a deal then OUR OWN MEDIA will instantly start spinning it as "a good deal", and along with the comments where Trump buttered Carney's biscuits, they will make the cultist horde defend the new shitty deal. By contrast, any deal that PP signed would be hailed as a disaster for the Canadian economy and the MSM would also say "it disproportionately hurts minority communities", etc. Trump doesn't want resistance. He got the weak adversary that he wanted, and at the same time he got the MSM in Canada praising our PM's every sellout. Trump dummied you six ways from Sunday, buddy. You are so deep in his back pocket now that you need the Webb Telescope to see the lint. Trump is already your leader, you don't even know it.

  24. So what's your answer for millions of unemployed due to automating the things they did? Scrape em off seems to be the majority view in the US at least. Pax seems to think all they'll need to get by is an old dusty spiritual manual. We could easily see this within 5 years according to some predictions. Dario Amodei, the CEO of AI startup Anthropic, said in May that AI tech could destroy half of all entry-level white collar jobs and increase the unemployment rate to as high as 20 percent in the next five years. As of June, the jobless rate was at 4.1 percent. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/ai-white-collar-office-jobs-b2788843.html

  26. Well first off that's not true but second off if it was why would you need to worry about bringing manufacturing back? Still doesn't add up And I've noticed the trend with you recently when you get busted and you KNOW you're in the wrong you put the 'haha' upvote on the person's comment It's like a dog rolling over and showing it's belly - you know you're beaten but you don't want to admit it so you play it off as funny not a big deal, I just thought it was amusing so I pointed it out. In any case it's pretty clear you're making this up as you go. It's like watching a teenager try to come up with explanations for something he's done when his parents know the truth and they're just stringing him along to let him dig himself deeper Very amusing!

  27. But you stated his purpose was to bring jobs back, now what you're saying is the only thing that will be growing is the automation industry. So he won't be bringing jobs back. And of all you're doing is automation why do it here? You're contradicting yourself across the board, what you're saying doesn't make sense. Which means either you don't understand what trump is actually trying to do, or trump doesn't make sense. Either way you got a bit of a problem

  28. The point is they can self-deport BEFORE they are caught breaking the law. Once captured, they can choose to not contest things or fight it and simply accept deportation to more quickly leave the facility. What inhumane conditions? What inadequate facilities? It is a detention facility, not a hotel where you get to go swim and drink by the pool.

  31. Pierre Berton must be turning in his grave. Canada isn’t some dime store prize or playground. It’s a massive, complicated mix of cultures that defines itself in great part by not being American. Sure, run your tanks through Toronto and have paratroopers land on Parliament Hill, you’ll still have to govern the place and that government will have to be accountable to the people who live here. It’s not just about Canada not being able to put up a physical resistance to the US military. Obviously that’s no contest — though there’s enough gear to make a bad mess for America on both sides of the border. The trouble is that Canada will simply reemerge as Canada. Are you going to ban Canadian flags? Ban French? Start telling the 80% native population of the territories to forget the systems of local government and federal agreements? Is the U.S. suddenly going to have the capacity to run these complex national agencies and departments to administer EI, collect revenue, maintain roads, etc? Will they import millions of Americans to run it all? Who will pay for it all? Obviously it will all have to be run locally and the lower 48 and Alaska will still want a market in Canada for their goods, which means the people living in Canada formerly known as Canadians will need to have a strong economy and money. Invading Canada is one of the stupidest ideas I’ve heard. If America wants to incorporate Canada into itself, the wisest move is to unify the countries into a common market or North American Union. Right now there’s little appetite for integration in Canada due to the economic coercion and talk of 51st state from Trump. It’s that simple. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

  37. Actually numbers do lie if used incorrectly.... First tariffs on steel went into effect Oct/24, so call it 9 months ago. A graph from 2020 to present is for....what? Secondly like all imported goods that are also produced domestically, when consumption outpaces production, you import more. That's why the US imports ~25% of their steel needed and ~50% of aluminum needed. You'll be paying for those tariffs, fyi. Lastly, it's a 50% global tariff (ex UK), not 35% Said it earlier but if you're going to troll, at least try to do it well....
