At one time, the United States was considered the defender of democracy in the free world. Counties all over the globe looked at America in terms of their freedom and democratic values. Today, with the inauguration of Donald Trump, that ends. In his first term, there were still democratic safeguards that prevented Trump and his MAGA cronies from achieving many of their goals, including rigging the 2020 election. The big test for America, and it's democratic institutions, came after January 6, 2021, when Trump urged his MAGA followers to storm the US Capital, in hopes of a coup. It failed. In most nations, Donald Trump would have been immediately charged, and faced prosecution and ultimately jailed for his part in an insurrection. However, the American Justice System failed. Today, there are very few democratic safeguards that will prevent Trump from exacting revenge on his enemies, weakening democratic laws, and institutions. Trump has hired people loyal to him, that are completely unqualified to perform their duties in some of Americas oldest and most respected institutions. Health, education, FBI, CIA, etc. Trump has officially destroyed democracy. The autocracy begins today.3 points

AFAIK the prorogation case will take a good while yet to sort out, presuming all remedies are used? https://thehub.ca/2025/01/20/howard-anglin-the-courts-must-stay-out-of-the-politics-of-prorogation/ If a decision did come sooner, the Liberals would have two options: 1. A series of simple caucus votes on the leadership which could be done almost instantly. 2. Leave Trudeau in place. There’s an argument that he should stay to face the music and leave the next leader with a clear run to rebuild the party without a massive defeat on their record but I suspect most MPs would prefer a fighting chance to hang onto their seats.2 points

I don't see too many objecting to general concepts and expressions of tolerance, in fact, I dare say most people don't care. They consider it none of their business, it doesn't affect them. They may roll their eyes.... but generally speaking it's not the problem. The problem is taking tolerance and acceptance to the next level, to a level of manifest absurdity and using innocuous statements like yours (above) as the ladder to do it. It makes people regret having supported your premise in the first place and resolve not to give you another inch because they know you will convert it into yards. Surely you get the idea that people don't want uncut men with beards and lipstick showering next to their daughters and mowing them down on the soccer pitch... don't you? That's what all of this boils down to and another 50 pages won't change this for most people. The spectre of hulking men setting deadlift records in a women's powerlifting event is an open assault on the very kindness and tolerance already extended to your cause... what did you think was going to happen? Did you honestly think there wouldn't be a backlash for trading majority support of a basic principle (rooted in tolerance) into a handful of smelly cheese and rubbing it in peoples faces? This was a tactical blunder of epic proportions IMO and I don't think you will be able to walk back the effects of that smelly cheese with innocuous statements about tolerance and acceptance. All you had to do was not rub that smelly cheese in peoples faces in the first place. The only converts you are likely to get to your side now are (perversely perhaps) people like me who think the electorate need this lesson in absurdity and feel that the quickest way through it is a level of pain sufficient to make overly tolerant, kind hearted voters cry UNCLE at the top of their lungs. Keep up the good work... you're doing great.2 points

Don't let Trudeau have you see it through his warped lens. I can understand other nations would want to use tariff for what they think is for the good of their own nation(s). If Trump - or any other leaders - would do it to us, the way I see it is......................that's just the way it is. BUT, we can all tighten our belts, and stand together. BUT - the LIBERAL PARTY (Trudeau and MPs), don't have the MORAL ground to lead us into this, and expect Canadians to stand with them! HECK - it's one thing for another nation to inflict pain on us.............but, it's really quite another for our very own PM to be inflicting hurt on us....................... ........................... ON TOP OF WHAT WE KNOW, IS GONNA BREAK SO MANY OF US! The tarrif is one thing. The carbon tax, is quite another. Why would I expect Smith to stand with Trudeau for the so-called good of the country? Is Trudeau standing for us? I don't think so. HECK - what good for the country is the carbon tax gonna be? Why should Canadians wait for a new Prime Minister to cancel it? I'm asking: Why is our PM hurting us so badly? Why can't he say, "because of the tarrif that will hurt our people, I'm going to cancel the carbon tax that's supposed to come on April, and postpone it for another time, to help ease the hurt the tarrif will inflict on our people." I'm not going to find fault with Danielle Smith. BUT I surely, am pointing my finger at TRUDEAU! HOW COULD YOU?1 point

So the democrats tried to remove the ELECTED RNC candidate from the ballot, tried to convict the ELECTED RNC candidate of fake crimes, tried to kill the ELECTED RNC candidate (through intentional neglect), released falsified information about the ELECTED RNC candidate all while holding an "election" where the strongest challenger wasn't allowed to have protection, the top candidate was known to be incapable and when the lie about his ability was revealed, appointed a candidate that never received one single vote...and DJT is the end of democracy? That's some fantasy you have there.1 point

I haven't commented on this story or the sources, but now that you ask... Sure, we should all have "arguments" about unverified jailhouse comments reported by shitty propaganda outfits. Gateway Pundit is an alt right flash in the pan bankrupted due to libel suits and the NYP has always been tabloid junk.1 point

I don't think he'll stay around if he doesn't win. I think basically the liberals have told him that if he runs and loses he's free to leave and they will cover some if not all of his expenses and if he wins great. I don't think he has the slightest intention of sticking around to rebuild the party at all. Reminds me of that ignatief slogan conservatives had: Just visiting. Nobody paid attention to it at that age (17). And if the cops wanted to arrest people for it they'd have to arrest the entire pantheon of rock and pop stars, including the remaining Beatles, Stones, Ledzeps, Floyds, Eagles and just about every other guy who ever had a hit record. Nobody was asking for ID when some chick with nice boobs was throwing herself at them.1 point

I had a cat like that. When it was 40 below he'd howl at the front door to go out, turn his nose up at the cold air, go howl at the back door as if it was gonna be summer there, turn his nose up again, and go back to howl at the front door. Still, I'm not saying my cat is as dumb as a leftist. That would be terribly rude.1 point

It's not a strange idea at all. In fact it's been to court already in Canada. Remember when Justin Trudeau tried to exclude the rebel and claim it wasn't a legitimate news organization? And they took the government to court and won? If you allow one media source then you have to allow all media sources. If your claim is that you don't have to actually be in the same room with a politician to ask questions then nobody should be in the room. Only a woke left-wing dictatorial type would suggest that somehow it was strange to think that excluding some news sources while allowing others would be a fair and reasonable practice in a democracy. That is absolutely asinine and you should be embarrassed for suggesting it1 point

Libbies... @robosmith, @DUI_Offender and @Hodad have no argument so they denigrate the news agencies that reported this. They are generally good with "unnamed sources" and the likes of CNN and MSNBC because they will tell them what they want to hear. The problem they have is...the NYP is proven correct more often than not, as is Gateway Pundit. Their chosen news sources are...well...less than correct more often than not. Poor Libbies...they live lives of lies and "misinformation".1 point

Muppet, we've already described this coping mechanism: When someone posts a quick cite that explicitly and directly contradicts your bullshit, you spiral out into comical, longwinded ranting about muffins, projected butthurt and then a bunch of useless mental gymnastics that (in your muddled little head) somehow magically turn into something that does the opposite. 🤡1 point
