No, you want to justify oppression by saying our allies have applied similar authoritarian policies, but they haven’t, certainly not to the degree of Canada.  The closest comparison for pandemic response would be parts of Australia and New Zealand.

I will ask again:

and

"prove me wrong"

It actually is no wonder Conservatives do not win elections when there people like you blowing their horns. A real shame because the conservative mantra could and should be good for Canada but Trumpism has fully laid down amongst conservatives.

You and Citizen would lick the boots before and after they kick you and other Canadians in the face.  You’re a cheerleader of oppressive policies.

How ungrateful you are, to ignore all the freedoms you enjoy - LIke calling Trudeau names on an online forum, or like blockading a city or bridges for a couple of weeks at a time.  Would that happen in China without mass jailings and disappearing of the 'leaders' of such revolt?  or Russia?  Or North Korea?  Give your head a shake.

Good advice.  I am often bored with this forum, I have to admit - and sometimes bored enough to argue with the conservative fringe.

Wow look at that!  We agree on something.  You agree with an apparent Chinese operative.  ?

Then you are also against the niqab ban?

Still waiting on you to have the balls to name a media source that you pay attention to.

Lemme see, CBC, CTV, Global. Local news, ABC,NBC,CBS, CNN, Fox, PBS, BBC, Hill Times, Blacklock  and quite a few others.

You see, I am not narrow minded and listen to lots of varied broadcasts and opinions and somewhere in there will be some truth and facts.

What I do not pay any attention to are podcasters (left or right), blatantly biased political media such as True North or Rebel Media.

Your opinions are JT’s are Lisa Laflamme’s are Jagmeet Singh’s.   There’s no outside to the Liberal POC because having other opinions is unacceptable to Daddy Castro. Don’t worry, there will be a basic income to see you through to your imprisonment in a long term care home, where assisted suicide will be encouraged.  Cradle to grave oppression is in the mail.  Just keep telling yourself you’re free compared to people in lots of places.  Visitors and religious services are forbidden to keep you safe. Stick to the essentials and follow the mandates if you want your bank account to remain active.

Having "laws, regulations and punishments" is not what makes a country authoritarian or totalitarian.

Making up arbitrary laws which have no basis in science or reason, just for the sake of power and control and benefitting only the ruling class is what makes a country authoritarian.

The idea that a mask is going to stop a microorganism is quite possibly the most ridiculous of all the covid nonsense

It's just too bad moderate conservatives can't seem to live without their conspiracy minded brethren.

I'd probably have no problem supporting a party that moderate conservatives were part of but not until they scrape off the shit.

Yet, oddly, before vaccines, when mask wearing was a thing, there was almost no flu. When mask mandates were removed during times of low transmission, transmission increased.  Just two weeks ago, the UK removed it's mask mandate, and now cases have skyrocketed.  There've been studies showing the relative effectiveness of various masks, and turns out ... most of'em offer some protection - not for the wearer so much as those around them.   Even just looking at what has happened in the real world - without any supporting studies - demonstrates that masks definitely provide some benefit.

So, you are wrong.  As is Goddess and the rest of you who believe anything "alternative" media tells you.

There have also been studies before the mask was politicized that show that they don't work. That virus particles are small enough to get through the pores of the mask.

Considering when you are shedding virus particles you shed millions at a time there's no way a mask will stop that.

As for your statement about the UK, it's not uncommon for there to be two waves during any cold and flu season. One generally December/January. The second in March. To claim its the masks is ridiculous

You don’t know the meaning of authoritarianism.  Having rules doesn’t make a state authoritarian.  Having unnecessary and arbitrary unconstitutional rules and policies does.

Masks help prevent the spread of disease; nobody has claimed they stop it in it's tracks. Your logic would be like throwing out seatbelts because people can still die/get injured while wearing them.

You are 100% correct.  I realized long ago that I am talking to a group of programmed robots on here and it is largely a waste of time.  They are ideologically driven and no amount of reasoning will change their minds.  Science doesn't mean a thing with them.  They are part of a lunatic fringe.  I saw one today driving a pickup with a trailer with big Canadian flag hanging off the back of the trailer.  The good thing about them having a big flag is it serves as a warning that the guy driving the truck is a nutcase and we should avoid them at all costs.

And while we're all paying attention to Ukraine/Russia, the UK NHS just released data showing that 9 out of 10 deaths from covid are in the fully vaxxed.
