  1. Yes we should be. Reluctance nowadays is due to cost mostly and historically a fear of anything with the word “nuclear” in it, especially if it’s related to the military. Assuming Canada stays in the submarine business after the current submarines are done, my guess is that we will pursue “Air Independent Propulsion” subs rather than nuke. AIP use tech like hydrogen fuel cells so can operate under ice but currently they can only stay submerged for a few weeks vs nukes which in theory can remain submerged indefinitely

  2. It was when we were in Afghanistan but after 2012 it dropped as low as 1% under Harper.

  3. Good God and I thought Trump was the guy who couldn't STFU to save his own skin. So it goes with his cult followers too. Time to revise that old saying to: If you lie all the time as loud as you can the incredibly stupid will believe everything you say.

  4. It’s bizarre that these weirdos back a guy who’s an obvious sexual predator and fraud. Donald Trump is a Piece of Shlt who inherited $400 million and still committed one fraud after another, had four kids from three wives, and cheated on all three. What a SICK F*CK.

  5. I'm trying to figure out why I should care about this. Machines and stores wanting to find merchandise I'd be more likely to like and buy doesn't sound like a nightmare.

  6. I wonder if we may have missed an opportunity with AUKUS. Some military planners claim that surface warships may soon be a thing of the past, being too slow, too conspicuous, and under threat of being taken out by too many means. It may have been a start anyway.

  7. We haven't built a nuclear power plant in a generation because the Left is so afraid of them, and just disapproves of the concept entirely for a variety of reasons. If environmentalists had their way we'd close down the nuclear power plants we have. They have this idea that we can power the country with wind, solar and wishes. Note that the Greens in Germany forced the closure of their reactors even while they were in desperate straits from Russia cutting off their gas. There's no reasoning with them. We can afford nuclear subs if we wanted to, but submarines are a rock bottom priority for the government to begin with because we can't build them in Canada. So no economic benefits or kickbacks. Nuclear would cost more. Australia, two thirds our population, is getting a dozen.

  8. If we want subs that can operate year round in the arctic, they will pretty well have to be nukes. Sweden has some AIP subs but they are very slow when just operating on the Stirling engine and quite small. Basically designed for use in the Baltic.

  9. As always, cost is the biggest factor. Canada has some sort of angst against nuclear power. Prime reason is why we were kept off AUKUS. "AUKUS is intended to strengthen the ability of each government to support security and defense interests, building on longstanding and ongoing bilateral ties. " "Canada doesn't operate or manufacture nuclear submarines, or aspire to build a nuclear fleet, it wasn't part of the dialogue".

  10. Yes, everyone who thinks a RAPIST is not fit for the Oval Office is deranged. I suppose the ones who think that proven sexual assault, nonstop lying, cheating and a history of fraud are qualifying attributes for the Presidency are the "decent" and "normal" ones...

  12. Nothing wrong with me cause I can keep up with, and in some cases lead, the latest technology. I have been working on deep learning AI since the late '80s, cause I saw the future even before google and UCB developed deep learning frameworks. Duh Time for YOU to retire. Lead the way to the future or apply for government support like the buggy whip manufacturers. Can't keep up? LMAO

  17. Thanks for proving you don't know anything about AI. What you describe (bolded) is simple programming. And MODERN AI learns on its own, and can solve problems its programmer can't without it. Do you have ANY IDEA what deep learning is? Or even neural networks? Since you're ONLY in IT, I doubt you even know what Software Engineering is.

  18. 1. So the cops go a judge and say "there was a random murder at location X at 4 AM. Can we please get the telco to send us all mobile devices pinging in the area and distance from the three towers located closest by" ? It was early morning so there weren't many people out. The judge approves and the cops analyze the data and find the man's phone stopped moving at a certain time in the morning, just as 3 devices were pinged moving on the road past him. The telco is able to determine the names of the owners of the phone from digital records. An arrest is made. Sounds like what might have happened in Schomberg Ontario when a 65 year old dog walker was gunned down in early morning by 3 members of a Salvadoran-American gang M13. https://toronto.citynews.ca/2023/06/02/men-charged-in-drive-by-shooting-of-ontario-dog-walker-schomberg/ I am very glad that we have the technology to find who did that. How about you ? 2. Why not ?

  20. this is a problem - the law was clearly not intended for the purpose for which it was used here and i have to admit if i was a business person i'd be VERY reluctant to do business in new york any time soon. With regards to your claim that the demonstration would hurt the people - any backlash hurts the people. It hurts if business pulls out of new york and take the jobs and the tax revenue's with them as well. So from that point of view, it's better to cause the people a little pain today to wake them up than a devistating pain tomorrow when it's too late to do anything. Not that i'm much of a fan of protests in the first place.

  21. Let's use Occam's Razor: Yeah the Ivenda Group sells and leases machines that do that. Why you'd pay for that feature is beyond me. Because it was a college, the Brainiacs in management did their usual "it costs more so it must be batter" reasoning and didn't even know it could do that. Therefore they didn't know that if there was a power bump or they changed their College's wifi name or password, it couldn't reconnect and crashed. So how much will the Vending company gouge them to get out of their contract, to change out the machine?

  26. This thread is meant for serious discussions about the Canadian Armed Forces and Canadian defence policy. The only one responsible for the Ukraine war dead is the brutal dictator who started the war and refuses to end it by returning his invading troops home, Vladimir Putin. Take your crackpot Kremlin-made bullshit lies over to one of the Ukraine war threads if you want to debate that further instead of polluting this one, Now F*ck off.

  27. I wouldn't put any job down in this way. In any case, if you think that the world should work better for you as a matter of privilege because of a degree, there's a word for that. A lot of our problems are with us because working folks are excluded from the conversation.
