  1. Peterson asked the court to overturn the college's decision requiring him to take remedial training. Some suggest the court acted appropriately for what was brought before it. Still others suggest what Peterson should have put before the court is "whether the college even has the legal jurisdiction to develop a code of ethics in the first place that prohibit the free expression of its members, unrelated to their clinical psychological practice, particularly if that free expression breached no laws — that is, wasn’t criminal nor defamatory." Peterson may have had good reasons for going about it the way he did, but certainly questioning the legal jurisdiction (of the college) to develop such a code of ethics in the first place would have gotten a lot closer to the heart of the matter.

  2. Really? Democracy isn’t fragile? Russia was a democracy. 1930’s Germany was a democracy Russia was a democracy Venezuela was a democracy All it takes is a President who refuses to leave office.

  3. After reading up on the actual court case I've got myself looking at this a little differently. It seems that the college had no issue about Peterson's opinions but only in the demeaning, insulting, sarcastic manner in the way he expressed them (sort of like around here). Maybe the college should have referred to it as 'sensitivity training' which might have made more sense. So the court agrees and says something like 'ok, we'll buy that, so carry on'. BUT.... we first have to do something about the Charter Section 2.b and this is what I propose... 2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms 2.b Freedom of thought, opinion, blah blah blah, but you gotta be nice about it, or else! Does that work for anybody?

  4. Not very many people did anywhere. That said I think the fact Trudeau wasn't Trump when COVID hit will come to be regarded as his most lasting legacy. Probably his only one. Didn't even George W Bush say something to the effect "I guess I'm looking pretty good now"? I bet that must have stung.

  5. latest from the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.... TORONTO — Noa Mendelsoh Aviv, Executive Director and General Counsel of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, made the following statement: The CCLA does not endorse the views of Dr. Peterson – but in court we argued professional regulatory bodies should not be in the business of policing speech that is not clearly connected to professional practice. Freedom of expression is a right that no individual gives up just because they join a regulated profession. About the Canadian Civil Liberties Association The CCLA is an independent, non-profit organization with supporters from across the country. Founded in 1964, the CCLA is a national human rights organization committed to defending the rights, dignity, safety, and freedoms of all people in Canada.

  7. Well there you go. The liberals and their economic experts knew that the housing crisis was due to Trudeau's immigration policy, warned him, and he gave exactly zero effs. The housing crisis plays a massive role in the inflation/interest crisis. WIthout it inflation would have been tolerable and rates would not have had to climb that high. Justin trudeau is directly respnosible for most of our inflation/interest rate issues right now and he's largely to blame for the housing crisis being this severe. PP will have a real chance to look like a hero when he gets in by easing those problems with a few relatively simple things and he'll buy himself the time to do the more permanent fixes.

  8. They were not in the slightest. They were a severely dis-trusted ally who started the war on Germany's side and helped them take poland, and now were only 'allies' because their fight with germany was an opportunity. And they backstabbed the west the second they got the chance. It's not out of context in the slightest - he very clearly, in context, praised china's dictatorship and said it was a thing to be envied.

  9. Totalitarian, yes; one-party state, yes; but it no longer fits the definition of communist. It is a kleptocratic republic now. Like I said, the Soviet Union was our close ally in WWII. Without them, the war would have been a lot worse for us. Both Canada and the US have close relations with Saudi Arabia. Human rights are a foreign concept to that government. You take that out of context. Mr. Trudeau was referring to the ability of a dictatorship to get things done expeditiously. An example is when Covid 19 exploded on the scene in 2020, China built two large hospitals dedicated to treating the disease. Both hospitals were up and running in just over a week. In a democracy, it takes years to do that. The fact that they are able to do that because of forced labour and intense coercion is understood. In a society like China, Professor Peterson would not have to take classes on ethics. They would just take him out and shoot him in the back of his head. To all those contributors out there who throw the word communist, nazi or dictator around to refer to any leading politician in Canada, get a brain. I've studied Soviet history under a professor who talked about Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin and Beria like he played poker with them every Saturday night.

  11. The OPEC states tried to warn Nixon about Bretton Woods. (People today STILL have no idea just how disastrous that plan was.) Oil is traded on US Dollars, because the US Dollar is the world's reserve currency. It's the reason why Americans aren't paying $15 a gallon for gasoline, like northern European countries are doing. Getting out of Bretton Woods caused irreparable damage to the stability of the US Dollar, and we got the oil spikes of the early Seventies. And people today STILL don't get that. Does that mean you consider yourself to be a liar, a fraud, and a serial rapist? KKKlinton was all of those things, as well as one of the four WORST presidents in history. (the other three being Carter, Obama and Biden.)(

  12. Prohibition of profession, for conduct unrelated to the professional competence and record, is a form of severe punishment. A fine is a punishment, but in this one is denied the ability to earn living in the profession they trained for and have skills. It is unbelievable that in a democratic state, severe punishments of citizens can be delegated to "associations" with no democratic legitimacy. How is it possible? Is it because the notions of democracy are some remote and superficial abstraction in the country that worships "good government"? Why hasn't anyone looked at it from this perspective? How else can one look at it, except in China North? The restaurant is really good though.

  13. Since there is nobody who is qualified or has the authority to make a judgment about what is nice or what is rude about Peterson's speech or anyone else's, it is ridiculous for any court or association to set themselves up as judges of people's comments on youtube or social media. They should simply butt out and respect everyone's right to their freedom of speech. Michael and the other liberals have completely lost the argument on that point. They should quit trying to make Canada into an Orwellian system.

  14. It's theft. And shoplifting is becoming more and more violent. It's one thing if a kid makes a mistake, its another when an adult makes a career. Theft is theft - it costs stores hundreds of millions of dollars. IF we took it seriously we wouldn't have that problem. Hey - don't want to get bumped up to being a serious criminal, stop at 9 and never do it again.

  19. We know both Trudeau (father and son) had a love for Castro and Cuba's dictatorship as well as China's Communist system. Don't be surprised at the direction Canada is heading. NDP leader Singh even reportedly said the Communist revolution in Cuba was good for the people. Canada is slowly becoming more authoritarian. We are cooking like frogs in a pot of water. It is a slow but sure process of growing authoritarianism run by bureaucracy. Examples are the imposition of carbon taxes, which steadily increase. The so-called "just transition" away from fossil fuels and the net zero targets. The continuing saga of new laws to control the internet. The federal public service has increased in size by at least 25% since Trudeau was elected in 2015. Liberals (and NDP) really do believe in big government as the provider, driver, and solution to everything in life. Sadly many Canadians believe this too and more are falling for it every day. That is pure Marxism. People fled from Cuba to escape the Communist dictatorship, yet we had leaders who actually cozied up to the dictator, and many Canadians continued to vote for them. What does that tell you about these voters? In the future, it is not inconceivable that many will be fleeing from Canada. I escaped Castro's Cuba for freedom in America. Sixty-one years later my family still celebrates our arrival (msn.com)

  20. You sound like a radical liberal with Orwellian ideology (Marxist). Many liberals are Marxists pretending to be mainline lovers of democracy and freedom. Fakers! You claim to be a conservative.

  21. I apologize. I made an off-hand reference to the success all Canadian governments and parties achieved in preventing many plague deaths and the thread became mired in a fruitless agurement over vaccines that was already exhausted months ago. My understanding is this thread is supposed to be discussing the next election. Let us do so in a manner that is respectful to all of the people who make the personal sacrifices required, in order to serve the country. We can disagree with policies and ideologies without giving into personal attacks on people we disagree with. Let's aspire to debate with empathy and courtesy. Good manners are essential in civil discourse.

  25. Not really. I think you just want to make an exception for issues that are pet projects of yours My best guess is that you think that your opinion overrides that of others. I always defer to institutions, because they tend to work for us. Your bafflement over being chastised for public statements is itself baffling. Many organization reserve the right to boot you out for public statements. Here's another one: https://engineerscanada.ca/publications/public-guideline-on-the-code-of-ethics#-interpretation-of-the-code-of-ethics "This competence requirement of the Code extends to include an obligation to the public, the profession and one's peers, that opinions on engineering issues be expressed honestly and only in areas of one's competence. It applies equally to reporting or advising on professional matters and to issuing public statements. This requires honesty with one's self to present issues fairly, accurately, and with appropriate disclaimers, and to avoid personal, political, and other non-technical biases. The latter is particularly important for public statements or when involved in a non-technical forum." So try being an Engineer and going online to tell everyone the Holocaust was a hoax. See what happens.

  27. Would Jordan Peterson even be a pop culture thing outside of his profession were it not for social media ? Regardless of his views, a "diversity" of ideas and perspectives is far more valuable than a steady diet of only leftist/feminist/Marxist doctrine.

  31. Peterson is free to have the speech he wants. He's not being jailed or even fined. But this governing body also has the right to certify people or not depending on how they conduct themselves. I'm actually surprised they even allowed him to save face by doing such training. Peterson is a provocateur, nothing more.
