  1. What else is new? quote U.S. district Judge Gary Brown of the Eastern District of New York has blasted ICE's detainment of an honors student who was swept up in a raid despite his Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) status. Honduran national Hester Asaf Garcia Lanza, who came to the U.S. at age 9, lived and worked lawfully in the U.S. for years under the SIJ status before being arrested in an ICE/DHS sweep. Despite his legal certifications, removal proceedings were initiated and his deferred action and work authorization were revoked. Even after the court set terms of Garcia Lanza's release after discovery of his legal status, ICE imposed additional unsanctioned conditions and DHS piled on with a hefty fine to offset his illegal apprehension. Brown’s outrage at those actions was clear in his ruling. “This isn’t how things are supposed to work in America,” Brown wrote. The judge has been a staunch defender of immigrant rights, but was particularly incensed by this situation in his ruling. He cited the arrest of Garcia Lanza without a judicial warrant or legitimate basis for detaining someone with SIJ status who has no criminal record as particularly egregious. Calling the government agency actions “unimaginable cruelty,” Judge Brown wrote, "The laws of human decency condemn such villainy.” The full text of Brown’s order has not been published, but the available filings show Brown said DHS was found in violation of statutory and constitutional protections. He also ordered that Garcia Lanza’s SIJ status be restored, and that he be either released or provided a bond hearing. Brown’s order will have an impact for others being detained despite lawful immigration status or statutory protections like SIJ status. It underscores that the executive branch cannot override basic constitutional and statutory safeguards, including proper warrants and respect for SIJ protections. unquote Trump-appointed judge trashes administration for 'unimaginable cruelty'

  7. Bad faith is your superpower. Thanks for the roundabout confession Buddy, that's you clinging to your "CFR is 80% lower among the vaxed" BS, when a person of any intellect inherently understands that a similar number of fatalities per capita, with an 80% lower CFR, requires several times as many infections per jabbed person. Basically: "We die at exactly the same rate, but we get infected ten times as often. That means that the jab is working." It takes a lot of your BS to make us rude, and at any point that you're willing be sensible we're always willing to respond in kind. That has literally never happened. You will cite meaningless BS and lies with a more passionate tone when you pet pi55y, but you never think for yourself so you don't technically have any "arguments", just quotes from the likes of Biden, CNN, Fauci, AOC, Omar, Al Jazeera, etc.

  12. This is not an isolated or rare case. Cruelty is part of the DHS mission under Trump. Courts keep ruling against it, they keep doing it. A federal judge recently ruled that third party deportations are illegal. -- Asylum seekers, including those without criminal record, who have active legal status in immigration courts and orders not to be returned to their countries of origin, are being abducted and sent to random third countries to which they have no connection. From there they are detained at length or sent back to the country from which they originally fled. Imagine fleeing Togo to escape genital mutilation or conscription as a child soldier, fleeing to the US and applying for asylum and told by the courts that your threat is credible--doing everything you are supposed to do. Living life, working a job, maybe having US citizen children, and then someone snatches you, puts you on a plane and you wake up in in a prison camp someplace you've never been, where you don't speak the language, without access to friends or family and no way to access a lawyer. Completely cut off from due process. -- Here you'll be held in a prison camp, or perhaps returned to the nightmare you fled in the first place. This kind of cruelty is not an accident or a mistake. There's no justifying it--it is fundamentally unjust. And it's not an accident, but rather it's the explicit policy of this administration. It's truly shameful. I don't understand how any decent person can support it.

  13. This is something that the left really doesn't understand and frequently tries to use in debates incorrectly. While formal debate environments may have different rules, it has long been established the discussions on the internet don't have that same burden of proof that you see in a debate club. Did you make a statement the other person may choose to say that they don't believe that statement is true. If that happens it would normally be expected that you would provide some species of evidence be it in the form of a logical argument, citation from source which appears to support it, or some other form of convincing evidence. But you are not expected to provide proof. If you provide evidence which supports your claim then it would be up to him to provide some evidence to refute it if he didn't believe it. That evidence would have to be at least at or superior to the level of quality of your evidence. And again the definition of evidence isn't quite the same, it very frequently won't be in the form of a citation So if you say you think pierre is a trans because you heard it from someone, that's a fairly low bar, but it's some specieis of evidence. I might reasonably reply we have a pretty detailed account of his history and nowhere in his history is there any suggestion he's a trans or does anyone who know him seem to suggest that that's the case and you would expect that there would be if he was genuinely trans. That's not proof he's NOT but it IS evidence and more solid than yours If you reply "well i have a video",,, well that's pretty compelling proof, now it would be up to me to show the video was unreliable OR that it's out of context or some similar thing IF i wish to continue to argue it's not true. There is no burden of proof as you would find in a court case or a debate club or the like. You are expected to make your case for the circumstances and add whatever evidence you can or you feel is necessary and it is up to the other person to do the same thing and then it simply a question of who made the most compelling case for their position. And this is often where you lose discussions because you get so focused on my new show and detail that doesn't address the overall case that you wind up making mistakes and failing to put a good case together

  19. You don't think of the death of the ayatollah as a partisan issue? Buddy, if Biden pulled off that attack then you guys would be doing victory laps so big you'd see the dark side of Pluto, but because it was Trump, "the attack was illegal 😭", "Iran wasn't any kind of threat 😭", "You didn't get my permission" (dumb Dem Crockett), blah blah blah blah blah...... Leftists even side with Hamas even after they slaughter innocent people at a concert and babies in their cribs ffs. They side with the gov't in Iran that flogs women and throws them in jail just for showing some hair. They side with pedophiles, rapists and woman-beaters who want out of jail for some weird reason. If that's not hyper-partisan BS then I'm crazy.

  23. The point of contention is that you are asking someone to prove something didn't happen. That's silly. The burden of proof is almost always on the affirmative claim. If you are claiming something happened, you have to show evidence of it. Demanding evidence that it didn't happen is nonsensical - like asking people to disprove that aliens exist. It's impossible.

  24. I love it when you start off like that, I know you've already decided you've lost These aren't binding agreements. Sorry I've been pretty clear about that. When investment goes up. Right now it's still going down. Results are the only thing that matter. We're not attracting new investments, we're losing investment. We would have to radically halt the amount of money leaving the country and at the same time radically improve the amount coming into the country to be into the acceptable positives and we're not there. It got worse over carness first year No new trade, no new investments, things getting worse. Yet somehow you want to celebrate this and think it's a victory? I expect we will be able to look at our trade figures and see radical improvements instead of being the worst in the G7. What the hell were you expecting? I have never done so and Dare you to post one single example where I did. Now you're just lying to try and cover your own failings Not search results, aI generated summary complete with links that you can follow to source material. Something you yourself have done more than once Nope. Everywhere else is doing better than us in the civilized world by far. We are now the worst performing economy in the G7 and it's not even close. And we've been there for a while. And to be blunt we were in a bad shape before trump came along It is entirely on Carney. He claimed you could fix it. He claimed he would get major projects going in Canada faster than we've ever seen in history. He claimed that we would build houses at a faster rate than we've ever ever experienced. He claimed he could deal with Interventional trade issues although eventually he backed down and said he would get rid of the federal rules which were nothing and never a problem to begin with because he knew he was not being honest None of that has happened. He still has a tax regime and a regulatory regime that prevents business from coming to Canada and it shows in the results This one? Canada’s new UAE trade and investment deal is bad news - CCPA Well, lets look at that. He's not getting a '70 bllion dollar' investment. What they agreed to is to create an investment frame work that will eventually lead to their gov't investing UP TO 70 billion over time, with guarantees of zero. IT's possible that one day will be worth something to us. Maybe even billions possibly. But no, that is not a deal for 70 billion in investment in canada. My god you libs just lap everything up without looking at it at all don't you. Except as we just saw it turns out I'm right and you are not. So. Looks like you're the one who lacks the knowledge. Announcements don't matter. Fake agreements that don't mean anything don't matter. All this nonsense doesn't matter, and it's just there to delude people like yourself that can't actually read for themselves What matters is results. He promised by the end of the year grocery prices would be down. He said we would judge him at the grocery store. He said we would be building major projects faster than ever before. He said home starts would be up and that investment would be flocking to Canada. The reverse of all of that has happened. Grocery prices are rising the fastest in Canada in any G7 country. We're building fewer homes. Investment is fleeing the country. We're not building any new major projects That we weren't already. Trade is down with almost all of our partners. And results are the only things that matter. Not announcements. We're coming up on a year and no results and he promised there would be results within the first year. He is failing. You have to be 15 different flavors of stupid not to realize that at this point

As to the article, Brookfield still hasn’t gotten any money and thw article gives away that it was the government, not Brookfield who called for investment firms pension funds etc to invest more in Canada which is something I think most people support. Is there anyone who DOESNT think investors should invest in Canada?

  29. Carney in India. Carney announces $100 billion in Canadian Pension Funds will be invested in India. I guess we are going to learn the hard way, like Sweden did. (See below.) Carney's Net Zero agenda has failed all over the world, investors are pulling out of his GFANZ amid US investigations for fraud. Canada is the last place that Carney can cash in on his Net Zero dreams. And what does Canada get in return? Carney announced - We get more Indians. Apparently, Canada has no tech or AI people. Ambassador to India was just on CBC and said that he believes Canada can take in an additional 60 million Indians. Look up Mark Wisman (recently appointed Ambassador to the US by Carney) and the Century Initiative, which the Liberal party has relied heavily on in setting immigration policy in Canada. They advise Canada needs 100 million people and Wisman has publicly stated that vetting is too time-consuming and unnecessary - just bring them in. Swedish Pension Funds Suffer SEK 197 Billion Loss: Impact on Retirees & Economy Sweden’s Pension Funds: The Cost of a Green Gamble Sweden's Pension Funds Face Eye-Watering Losses After Investing Heavily in Net Zero Projects - Energy News Beat In a stark warning to global investors chasing the green dream, Sweden’s pension funds are reeling from massive financial setbacks tied to ambitious net-zero initiatives. Once hailed as pioneers in sustainable investing, these funds poured billions into high-risk clean energy ventures, only to watch them crumble amid market realities. These investments, spanning battery manufacturing and green steel industries, were predicated on optimistic assumptions: aggressive EU decarbonization policies, generous subsidies, and booming demand for electric vehicles. None of these materialized as expected, with weakened EV sales and subsidy cuts exacerbating the crisis. While exact total losses across all Swedish pension funds remain unaggregated in public reports, estimates point to billions in kronor evaporated—described by analysts as “eye-watering” and potentially requiring taxpayer bailouts via Sweden’s national debt office, which guaranteed portions of these ventures. The lack of returns is glaring: instead of high rewards from a “high-risk, high-reward” strategy, these projects have delivered zero yields and steep write-downs, socializing losses among pension savers while private executives pocketed earlier gains. Sweden’s centre-right government is now reconsidering the role of pension funds in national development goals, signaling a shift away from such speculative green bets.

  31. I never talked about "how our values dominate the world" because that's neither here nor there. Ok, then, will you admit that everyone believes their values are superior to those of others then ? If we're on the same page with that one then, yes, I believe "our" values are superior, and furthermore that my personal values are superior to others who are like me. That's supposed to be how it works. You see how others behave, you modify your behaviour to differentiate yourself and you go forward. But if you believe the Western way is superior then one thing that differentiates it is the ability to sift through subjective perspectives and arrive at a clearer reality. Another poster pointed out that the West has been a harbinger of science and that's another way of looking at it, arriving at the same conclusion. As such, we can - apart from our own personal feelings and convictions - look at other cultures and see some advantages they have. You have done so here. I don't feel that these boards are best used to beat the drum about how great we are, because that doesn't communicate ideas as much as personal feelings. Remember that facts don't care about those. So I will occasionally point out the Chauvinism of cutting down other cultures occasionally but mostly quietly disagree, and more and more I just avoid such discussions. There are just too many contradictions, and the conversations go nowhere.
