  2. For the umpteenth goddamn time...climate change only makes wildfires worse it doesn't cause them. Yeah, it's telling us how effective decades of denial has been. Why spend money managing anything for climate change if it's a nothing-burger? It's just common sense. The Liberals mismanagement of the climate file has created a level of cynicism that's resulted in pushing public concern for the climate onto the back burner while boosting an outlook for fossil fuels that hasn't been seen in decades. Good job.

  3. I keep thinking it's some sort of weird code. You know, like how the allies used to do in the war when they would send strange radio messages that were meant to be picked up by the resistance. "The fat lady sings at 7:34!" "there is no ham in spam". "Fragrant walruses cavort on tulips!" "when the clock strikes midnight, cinderella wants her pumpkin back!". That kind of thing. I thought perhaps he was sending secret coded messages to some odious cohorts of his. So i ran it through a chatgpt program designed to detect cryptology and ciphers and asked it to figure out what it meant. It came back with "what the hell is wrong with you? ". I've given up.

  10. and now the circus clowns begin their reign of economic terror! haaha! House GOP puts Medicaid, ACA, climate measures on chopping block the "felon in chief" and GOP's MO is to renew the Trump tax cuts that will add another $10T to the national debt. that $10T going directly into the pockets of the richest Americans. but that pesky debt ceiling! so they are going to attempt to rifle through seniors benefits, health care for the poor and infrastructure spending to find that money for the billionaire boys club! of course, you can't bleed a stone so they have only been able to identify $5.6T in cuts that even they can stomach. mind you, Trump is not a "fiscal conservative"... they never are. he has repeatedly suggested that the US get rid of the debt ceiling so that his ilk can just shovel cash into their own pockets. the "felon in chief" will claim that he inherited such a mess (the economy being stronger than its been in US history) that billionaires need more money. Greenland, Greenland, Greenland... look over here!

  11. We already know that, but have failed to take any action on that fact ...such as Forrest management, investing in Forrest fire prevention, equipment, and training for more fire fighters...The government knows that, but shrugs it shoulders so it can't be very important can it...And according to the media climate change is the cause of all these fires , read some of the headlines.... Climate change is a global problem....and until the entire global takes it seriously nothing we do in canada is going to change anything.... Canadians don't want to pay out of pocket for climate change, because they know it is a global problem that requires a global solution....and nothing Canada does will change anything in the climate change realm....the entire globe has put climate change on hold. were to busy killing each other, preparing for tariffs, figuring out how to make 2 % of GDP for our security apparatus... you know the day to day stuff...And just for the record, this is a Liberal/NDP issue they were in charge and did squat....look at them for how our nation faired in the climate change world....maybe you should have voted for the windbag green party for better results...

  13. Probably. I 've said that before, he's got a lot of charisma as a politician and a lot of skill. Handles questions well, knows his material, can find his way off a stage unaided There's a very good chance he'll win in 4 years. Which probably means he'll get 8 years in power, for a total of 12 republican years in a row, with 16 out of 20 in total. The dems really really need to sit down and think about what they've got to offer and who they are as a party. They're going to be walking in the snow for quite a while if they don't become relevant again.

  14. So I got a text from someone Saturday night asking if she could come over and pick up the computers she dropped off. The previous message on the conversation was asking the same thing in early January, 2024. Then I remembered running into her at the local re-use shed in early summer, she'd asked the same question and said she'd come get it that afternoon. Had to tell her sorry they were sent to recycling a month or so ago after I'd had them over a year and no one came to get them. She replied with OK then. This morning there was a nasty FB post from her brother telling evreyone what a scumbag I was for throwing away "his property" and destroying all his saved memories. I remember that system. Had a smashed screen with a hole in it exactly the size of a hammer head. A Macbook, originally priced over $1500. That wouldn't boot up and when dismantled has a soldered on hard drive. Scrolled back on that conversation again and saw that I'd texted her back exactly that in Oct 2023, that the only way to get those pics back was to send it to Apple, pay many huindreds of dollars and long shipping waits. No further contact until she asked to pick up the laptop in Jan 2024 and never did. The brother actually stated in his rant that if he took his car to a mechanic, didn't want to pay for repairs and left it sitting there for a whole year a reputable mechanic would 'give his car back'. Some people live in their own delusions.

  15. Whos really to blame for the LA wildfire? You are West. For being stupid enough to think some person is to blame. Perhaps it was the guy who didn't cut down all the trees and pave over the entire State. You know the one they're all talking about. Gotta watch out for them they're out to get us.

  16. No, Conservatives have always been realistic about the basic functions of government to be things like fire and police. So... again, why do you keep ignoring the question? Is it because you know it defeats your argument? The government can in fact reasonably do more to be more prepared to both fight fires and help prevent them or how serious they become.

  17. Damage from fires in California is only going to increase despite any government intervention to change firefighting resources. Conservatives used to be realistic about the limitations of government.

Errr... @Radiorum...there is a price for selling your soul to hatred and progressive ideologies. The price while living is, you become destructive and work to inflict pain and suffering on yourself, your family and society. You also become a laughable twit. The price in death is...no afterlife. A true death. Have a warm and fuzzy day...

  21. I grew up with one of them at the end of our dirt road. One of those green, multi box, precursors to the supper mailbox. One lockable compartment for each household. That was back in the days of party line phones. Seems to me there's a huge divide in Canada between city mice and country mice. Lot's of unexploited wedge issues there for liberals to work on. The "raw milk" thing makes me laugh every time I hear Herb-like creatures label it a MAGA freedumb issue. We grew up thinking it was just milk... my kids still laugh at me for giving the milk container a quick up and down shake before pouring it.

  22. I know i know.... you think that the idea of voters holding gov'ts to account in a democracy is hilarious Everyone's entitled to an opinion i guess, right comrade?

  23. They? So you feel that the police and the gov't planned specifically to kill floyd? That's what you're suggesting. George floyd was not a planned event. Not properly cleaning the forest is a decision. That is policy, not an accident or the like. It's not like the forests were jacked up on fenynal. So comparing the two is nuts.

Yes you have to come out and spill all the brainless stupidity you held inside you being shy suspecting or knowing how stupid it would sound. But now, the example has been shown and restraints are off. Just come out. Spill it all. And we will need to record it all, patently and diligently. So that later, there will be no walking back, misunderstood, not interpreted, nuances, other freedoms no dumb and useless excuses. Certified !diot and patented fascist, stamped and branded by their own free expression. The next!

  31. Shouldn't there be tons of evidence of corruption and incompetence available here already? https://www.oag-bvg.gc.ca/internet/English/admin_e_41.html#wb-cont I often get the sense the it'll-be-worse-than-we-imagined sentiment is like an advance on the apologies we can expect in the face of little to no progress on the same important issues during Poilievre's term. He'll be able to lean on this sentiment for about half a term after which everything will start being his fault.

  33. I have this feeling that if the Fat Fuhrer keeps this shit up, the other members of NATO may boot the US out of NATO as they're redundant and can come back when they grow up. Russia's proven its threat inept and US only offers overkill as a counter. If the Fanta Fascist offers Putin his Sudetenland in Ukraine in a peace deal that would seal it.

  34. the highest corporate tax rate of 39% was cut to 21%. there is no way around the fact that it removed $10T from the US budget. and will again this time. if you can't pay for it then you are borrowing money. it the GOP were able to (they won't) be able to cut $5.6T and DOGE are able to cut $2T (they won't) then that still doesn't pay for the first Trump tax cut. so more Trump BORROWING.

  35. The "Trump" tax cuts were rate cuts that impacted almost all working Americans who pay income tax. Spending adds money to the debt, we have increased spending year over year over year since long before these tax cuts and that is what continues to add to the debt. Also, taking less money from the public is not ripping them off.

  36. I think we all knew this was going to happen. Enrich the oligarchs, while screwing over the working and middle class. Trump has failed at literally everything he has done in life, with the exception of being a conman. Elon Musk is a man who takes credit off other people's inventions, and has made a fortune off government grants. Vivek Ramasharmy is a con artist, who bought a failed drug, re-branded it, and dumped the stock once it was going into Phase III clinical trials. And of course, RFK Jr, an ex-junkie, who had his brain eaten by worms. What could possibly go wrong?

  37. "It seems a lot of American can't conceive why Canadians are not so eager to join the union. I'll give you a few reasons: - We love our country, just you like you love yours. Things can always be better, but this will always be our home and native land. - The climate sucks, but we're used to it, and it can be quite beautiful at times. We have warm homes with warm people, winter sports, and lots of sunshine. - None of my kids have had to do active shooter drills, unlike their cousins across the border. Our cities are the safest big cities in North America. - There is no role for religion in politics. No one cares. - We never have to worry about health insurance. Granted the system can be improved, but there are no co-pays, no monthly contributions, few worries. - There's no corporate donations in politics, it was banned 20 years ago. Billionaires can't own the political system. - The media (what's left of it) is not allowed to broadcast false or misleading news. - There's no corrupt geriatric supreme court that can ruin your life. Here judges have mandatory retirement, and few Canadians can name even one of them. - Abortion has been permitted for 35 years and is a non-issue politically - There's no senate or electoral college that can keep unpopular parties in power. - Higher education is good, cheap and accessible. Few are crushed by student debt like in America.

  40. The PMs after PT were under no obligation to follow his lead, so why did they? I would argue that Canadians did not want to spend on the military. No matter how necessary it is, ramping it up is still going to be a tough sell that will probably cost seats. However, as the only NATO country to border the US, we can offer special contributions beyond tanks and guns, eg more infrastructure in the Arctic, making it easier to defend, and more effective wildfire control which will help the inhabitants of American cities breathe more easily.
