The hatred that the online MAGA crowd have for California (in the face of the devastating LA fires) is palpable. Gleefully watching the destruction, they are reveling in the suffering. Their POV: punish the “evil liberals.” Posts made on MAGA forums in the wake of the California wildfires: “I hope the whole f*cking shithole burns down. Literally would not p*ss on it to put the fire out.” “The Christian thing to do is to bathe in God’s wrath playing out and pay [sic] their [sic] they will no longer be satanic pedophiles. Not this f*ggot shit.” “I'm done with these commie b*stards. I have nothing but contempt for them. The enemies of Christ deserve what's happening.” “F*ck em. They're communists, not Americans.” “I actually feel good, I don't really care. I hope the rich people in the foothills around Denver have their houses burn next. Minneapolis and Chicago can burn too. They're not my country they're at best occupiers when their side is in power and I don't mind nature's wrath coming down on them. The northeast can be wiped out by a tsunami. Not my country, not a place I care about, they're actively trying to destroy my way of life, good riddance.” How did we get here? The hatred also seems to be a reaction based on misinformation. Trump himself spread a lot of it. Other MAGA quotes: “They celebrated Helene wiping out thousands of Trump supporters off the map. They (Democrats) are evil.” [The truth: around 250 people died in Hurricane Helene] “Me either. These people didn't do anything but mock the people in WNC when an unprecedented flood wiped out whole towns. We didn't get a visit from Joe. [The truth: Biden visited Western North Carolina shortly after the storm] They still have not disbursed the 1.75 million dollars of emergency funding that is supposed to help people with housing, emergency shelter and supporting the businesses that flooded to their rooftops. [The truth: FEMA has distributed $32 million to NC and was going door to door to connect people with financial assistance] (You can read more about this on The MAGA Report, by Jen Golbeck, available on Substack.) How can this hatred be dissolved? How does Trump contribute to it?8 points

That radical liberal, Thomas Jefferson, was deeply concerned about wealth inequality, the creation of a new aristocracy and the threat that would pose to the stability of the nation. His deeply un-American, commie proposal? Progressive taxation. "another means of silently lessening the inequality of property is to exempt all from taxation below a certain point, and to tax the higher portions of property in geometrical progression as they rise.” -Thomas Jefferson, 17853 points

I would say that the above is not true. Furthermore, I think the online adoration of Luigi Mangione (the CEO shooter) is a very different animal than what we see in MAGA. Most of the online reaction has focused on his looks. He’s been dubbed the “hot assassin.” Even Ted Bundy developed a cult following. Professor Tanya Horeck, an expert on digital culture and true crime from Anglia Ruskin University, says that the internet has caused "a blurring of the lines between celebrity and criminality” and that when people see a good-looking person pop into their feeds, their first thought is lust, not moral criticism. Also - this kind of online worship of violence is often seen on the right. If you go down the alt-right rabbit hole, you’ll find that on right-wing sites like 4chan and 8chan mass shootings are met with glee. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp8nk75vg81o I couldn’t find any evidence that those posting in favour of Mangione were either right or left-wing. The major motivation seems to be a hatred of the rich. For example, the hashtag #EatThe Rich soon went viral after the shooting. Clearly, some people are pissed off at corporate elites in general. But – aren’t right-wing people more likely to be anti-elite? The reality of American politics today is that the Republicans are the “populists” and the Democrats “the elitists.” That’s part of the reason they rejected Harris. I think, too, that an important distinction needs to be made here between the messages coming “from the top.” Democrat leaders do not embrace, glorify and endorse hatred and violence the way that Trump does. Josh Shapiro, the Democrat governor of Pennsylvania, where Mangione was arrested, said, "We do not kill people in cold blood to resolve policy differences or express a viewpoint.” Compare that to Trump regularly calling for the execution of his political opponents. With a leader like that, it is not surprising that the research shows that online posts by the political right include higher levels of hate speech, threat, obscenity, name-calling, stereotyping, and negative prejudice, than do posts from the political left: In this study, we investigated the question of whether online prejudice is symmetrical or asymmetrical on the political left and right in the U.S. in a very large sample of social media messages. We observed that Twitter messages mentioning targets perceived as liberal or left-leaning (such as Black Americans and feminists) included higher levels of hate speech, threat, obscenity, name-calling, stereotyping, and negative prejudice, compared to Twitter messages mentioning targets perceived as conservative or right-leaning (such as conservatives and Christians). https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10724124/2 points

the Democrats Woke Identitarian ideology has destroyed the state capacity of California so when the predictable crisis came, the infrastructure had collapsed in the face of it and the state is so broken that it can't actually fix anything anymore it's the same thing the Trudeau Liberals did to Canada Karmageddon2 points

It was a test, experiment and the results are in. Not one of the brainless bunch asked any questions and/or expressed any doubts about blatant, aggressive fascism presented to them. The ideas and words are out of Hitler 1933's mouth, word for word. No reaction. Zero thought and memory. The experiment proves it: the transformation is complete and we have here 100% pure, distilled totalitarian fascism. No difference. Ready to go. Mouths and fingers in a direct hardwired one-way connection to the lying dictator's a$$. What discussion?1 point

Who? Do you mean donald? Or, the jury that found him guilty? You must of forgotten that donald hatched and implemented a plan to install fake electors in multiple states. He then attempted to coerce his vice president to certify those fraudulent electors over the legitimate electors, or at the very least, refuse to certify the legitimate electors. Had donald succeeded with his plan, he would of also succeeded in disenfranchising millions of voters. Such election interference is clearly an act of treason. Donalds upcoming case (which was canceled because he was re-elected) about donalds failed efforts to illegally remain in power, would of shown donalds culpability. Which is why he is fighting so hard to get the evidence collected by Jack Smith blocked from public scrutiny. Donalds a dirty traitor, but his sycophants are far too busy licking his scrotum to notice. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjU8oHPy-6KAxVNKEQIHVHoCjMQFnoECCIQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fapnews.com%2Farticle%2Ftrump-special-counsel-report-election-interference-4ef4ba2508baf3bb269abd4bcdc8e102&usg=AOvVaw3pRewavxzV6X8z8IeMAItm&opi=899784491 point

If Libs of TikTok puts up actual videos made by actual Libs, how is that misrepresenting anything? If Libs post these things on TikTok, it's reasonable to assume that they want a big audience. And Libs of TikTok shows them to an even wider audience. It's not altered or filtered either. Shouldn't you be pleased that more Americans get to see how Libs think? Surely you're not embarrassed by them are you?1 point

you really should address the huge blind spot you experience with your cognitive dissonance. climate disasters are happening at a very pronounced increasing rate. its the rate of change. its coming down our throats hard now and will only worsen. and its because of the greenhouse gasses that we dump into the atmosphere at ever increasing amounts. read that last paragraph twice if you have to. to get the point.1 point

what? yeah, i don't get how any of that has anything to do with whether climate change is happening or not or to what degree. but yeah, the filthy rich are the only ones who are going to win. keep voting for them and their regressive tax regimes! what about the rest of what i said? 2024: An active year of U.S. billion-dollar weather and climate disasters1 point

IMO that's how that sentence should be worded. That's not the "try" league, it's the results league. They gotta get 100% on that test and have the city seem boring, not get a failing grade and then pretend that people shouldn't be too critical of the damage they caused. "Awww, she did her best. She hired the best DEI candidates she could find! Go easy on her." F that. Sometimes the best lessons come from the biggest failures, when every mistake is shown to have played a massive part. We need to look closely at what happened in Nazi Germany and LA and all kinds of places where disasters occurred because there's more to be learned from some tragedies than from biased, woke think-tanks.1 point

The Jews owned that land over 3,000 years ago and it is their land. They occupied the land for over a thousand years. They were driven off the land over the centuries by invaders. They took back what was their land in the 20th century. You need to do some studying.1 point

Guess I'm just not accustomed to dealing with deliberately generated nonsense in support of narratives that can't be defended without it. That's a good thing though as I no longer feel inclined to fact check ridiculous assertions... it appears that you and some of your colleagues here deliberately misrepresent what is actually being said and the very point that is trying to be made in the telling. As I recall he was talking about neuro-structures, biological continuity, social structures, social hierarchies, PTSD and the like... suggesting that there were examples of such things in the animal kingdom that were analogous to humans and that by observing them in a rational manner lessons could be learned. He did use lobsters as example, I remember listening to that video. I would also have remembered if he said that lobster brains and human brains worked exactly the same way, he was merely pointing out biological continuity between diverse species. That said, I'm beginning to think your characterization of it has demonstrable merit in some cases here, So OK... I looked it up for ya, this is actually what he said:1 point

Have you been to Notre Dame? Or the great cathedrals of Italy? They are among the most extraordinary artistic achievements of Western civilization. To see the works of Renaissance masters in their original settings is still possible in many Italian churches. One doesn’t have to be religious to be moved by such beauty. I was particularly taken by this Bellini painting on a recent visit to Vicenza: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baptism_of_Christ_(Bellini)1 point

Big tough guy, hiding like a coward from me. I am seeing a few stories like this, where folks stayed behind, and all it took was just a little bit of effort on their part to put out the fires around their homes to save them, while the whole neighborhood burned because there were no firefighters there to do the same. Just crazy.1 point

How about there's only so much to go around? No that's just what you righties say to dismiss the concern that bad things happen when economic disparity gets out of control. Especially when it becomes really concentrated in the face of millions of people finding it increasingly difficult to pay for basic necessities. Unmitigated greed is a really ancient social concern. It even has an ecological basis, when the water hole gets smaller the animals get meaner. A similar social cost gives the term a context that's simple for humans to see. Lickspittles throughout time have been using much the same argument you do in defense of their betters. "History Doesn't Repeat Itself, but It Often Rhymes” – Mark Twain1 point

Do you ever do any reading or look up a few articles about these things before swallowing the garbage hook, line, and sinker. Even fish are smarter than that. " The Protocols of the Elders of Zion[b][c] is a fabricated text purporting to detail a Jewish plot for global domination. Largely plagiarized from several earlier sources, it was first published in Imperial Russia in 1903, translated into multiple languages, and disseminated internationally in the early part of the 20th century. It played a key part in popularizing belief in an international Jewish conspiracy. The text was exposed as fraudulent by the British newspaper The Times in 1921 and by the German newspaper Frankfurter Zeitung in 1924. Beginning in 1933, distillations of the work were assigned by some German teachers, as if they were factual, to be read by German schoolchildren throughout Nazi Germany.[1] It remains widely available in numerous languages, in print and on the Internet, and continues to be presented by antisemitic groups as a genuine document. It has been described as "probably the most influential work of antisemitism ever written".[2]" The Protocols of the Elders of Zion - Wikipedia1 point

The issue with the hydrants was that they were prepared for 3 million gallons which is more than enough... 99% of the time. the actual demand on that day was in excess of 12 million gallons. So no the hydrants were not deliberately shut off. Yes, 200 of the 1100 went dry because they were not equipped to give full water allotment to each. The logistics of this date back to the 1960's when LA was fairly Conservative..1 point

The first ones come online in Canada in just a few years from now And it's expected the approval process will be streamlined once a few have been implemented. And Poilievre is exactly the leader who will likely look at how to successfully streamline that so that approvals go quickly. But we won't be seeing them in British Columbia. A year or two ago the NDP voted again to renew the band on all nuclear power and to make it illegal. You know, because they care so much for the environment.1 point

That's not an achievement, that's just sexism. Didja love it when he punched jodi in the face? or all the other women he did, with freeland being the last? The guy thinks women should be silent and do what their told or he fires them. THAT'S your 'feminist idol'? well you did bring up how much he did in the first term. Sooooo. As to he conservatives if you have "fears" over it that's a mental health issue. The conservatives have been in power before and there was no 'religious take over' or anything Probably not. The only things that'll get cut back is useless programs like the 23 billion we spend in consultants that happened to be friends of the liberals right now each year. The conservatives have always supported in kept up core services like medicine transfers and the like. The CBC is getting cut, but honestly it had it coming So you are honestly of the opinion that the conservatives are going to get into power and then cancel Canada Post so that there's no more postal service. That's your big fear here. You're making crap up at random. When have the conservatives ever called for the end of mail? They've never done that. Nor are they calling for it now. So again where is this coming from? You're making shit up Well that's a blatant lie. It weren't planning on doing any of that with the exception of raising the retirement age to 67. Harper increased healthcare funding and trudeau kept the exact same formula harper had for example. Meanwhile, The liberals have doubled our debt. They have divided the country so badly that now again we're hearing about separatist talk. Our medical systems are in complete disarray and cannot handle the number of people we have in and are far worse than they were under harbor. Pretty poor and has hit the elderly and the poor the most. Many of them can no longer afford food or housing. Our quality of life is nose diving because of the GDP per capita plummeting, which will affect gov't services moving forward. And everyone has commented how poor gov't services are today vs in the past And people are forced to go longer before retiring Canadians are working past retirement, but not because they want to | CBC Radio Oh and canada post says because of mismanagement they're looking at going to weekly service because they're losing so much. So every single thing you said you were worried about under the CPC HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED under the liberals. So how do you justify your claims that the cpc will do these things when they didn't when they were in power and the liberals are?1 point
