The rush to emulate Putin's kleptocracy of thieves continues. If you're a pervert, a diaper sniper, a tax evader or simple con-man you might get appointed as a henchman by The Penguin himself. Trump wants Charles Kushner, father of son-in-law Jared, as U.S. ambassador to France Pardoned by Trump 4 years ago after pleading guilty to tax evasion, illegal donations3 points

To call something stupid for no other reason than you do not have a defense against it speaks to your deficiency, not the original proposition. It reminds me of a teenager whose mother says, "Clean your room." And the child replies, "That's stupid!" Trump of course has very loudly signaled that he will abandon the US’s allies and join with the kleptocrats. A move “straight out of the autocratic handbook.” It all makes you wonder how strong is the devotion of the US to the democratic faith?3 points

They were listening to people like you. One of your leftist heroes, Trudeau senior, was a primary architect. Canada is today largely built on leftist policy and propaganda. I can see why you think it's a mess, but if you want to know why go look in the mirror.2 points

Well, for that matter, neither did Biden. Quit blaming the US for other countries doing shitty things to one another. But, you seem to be alluding to the hypothesis that somehow Trump had an affect on curtailing Putin's aggression. It’s true, Russian hardliners spent years criticizing Putin for not invading sooner. But the reasons for Putin’s restraint, i.e. not invading until 2022, have absolutely nothing to do with anything Trump did (or that Putin “liked him,” lol). Putin’s strategy was instead to put his efforts into splitting the West (I can tell you about the massive internet campaigns in another post), and have Russia forge closer ties with Europe. In 2014, it was Merkel’s warnings of massive damage to German-Russian relations that made Putin back off. But we were talking about the election, and why Trump voters voted for him. The Ukraine war was actually a low priority for them. Whatever was going on with Russia and Ukraine did not much influence their vote. In fact, immigration at the southern border, climate change and the Israel-Hamas conflict were larger issues of foreign policy. Yes, Trump appealed to the basest instincts in those people who were looking for a strongman to protect them from the “other” – whether it was immigrants or the “radical left lunatics.” A superman who promises, “I alone can fix it.” I suggest you read Henry Murray’s The Personality and Career of Satan to be astonished how closely Trump fits the personality. Aw man, Trump is a joke, completely lacking in diplomatic skills and intelligence. He knows how to stir up a cult following, but that's about it. I will let you read Harris's resume for yourself: https://www.britannica.com/biography/Kamala-Harris But honestly, more than the good that Harris could do, I am concerned about the devastation Trump might bring to the US and the institutions that define it. Good boy! Gold star for you.2 points

What support? Because nothing happens in a vacuum and it demolishes your assumption I support illegal immigration. No, I don't agree these are lefty policies. I think what allowed this to happen is that your country has been just about completely FUBAR for decades. I happen to think that was dumb. I said so earlier too. But you fu cking dingbats never pay attention so...fu ck off. You said something I missed, where? Okay, except your still hung up on what you maintain is the biggest circumstance which is it's all the left's fault.1 point

As a conservative, I'm pissed off about fake polling numbers which are used to make it seem as if the Libs' scams weren't that big of a deal, or their poor performances really weren't so bad, etc. "We think this guy is the greatest ever, but don't believe us, look what the polls say! All the cool kids like our golden child!" But just imagine how Dem donor feel after being told: This is the most consequential election in history! Democracy itself is on the ballot! If we lose there will never be an election, and we're THIS close!!! Donate now and save the world from racism and autocracy!!!" Then the election comes and it wasn't close at all. Kamala lost voters for her party in every demographic, in every state, and almost every single county. 4 years later, "against all odds", there's another election 🤣. Demb donors: "So wait, the polls weren't close when you said they were, and democracy wasn't really on the ballot..." God forbid the economy stays strong and Trump makes the world peaceful again, what can the Demis tell their supporters to get them to open up their wallets next time? If this Trump administration is as successful as the last one was, the Dems are f_cked. They need to pray for lots of war and economic hardship, with a bit of fascism, but they can't even obstruct their way to that because they don't have the senate or congress...1 point

LOL... you care more about yourself. I expect that we can prevent others rape, murder, and being victims of violent crime by deporting these criminal illegal immigrants instead of protecting them like folks like you support doing. She can't be anymore dead than she already is. If you care about it, you would support doing more to prevent others from being brutally murdered as well. Just like her dad does. Once again, you have more outrage here over this than the circumstances that led to her death.1 point

Not according to the OP you're posting in support of or according to what you've argued. Don't forget it was Mulroney who tore up the Charter when the provinces insisted on Notwithstanding Clause.1 point

My goodness I'd forgotten about that, I used to love that commercial. "Rice Krispies... what the heck did you think they were made of." And even though it didn't make sense, a lot of tolerant people went along with it anyway, and by doing so, conveyed an aura of legitimacy to outrageous follow on demands. And instead of being content with the good natured support on offer from well meaning people who (at the time) wished them the best and wanted to see them live their lives in peace, they morphed into a mob of ugly monsters bent on forcing their views down the throats of the old school liberals who (initially) supported their quest. That's changed now IMO... at least for me. They refused to stop after they'd had won a resounding victory... they refused to take yes for an answer. It qualifies as the biggest tactical miscalculation i've seen in a lifetime of observing tactical miscalculations. In future, the answer from me is no... and not just no, the new answer is HELL NO.1 point

A number of us kept pointing that out since January of this year. I made dozens of posts personally that pointed out if they keep lying about trump and making up these ridiculous nonsense conspiracy theories and pursuing a billion and one ridiculous lawsuits, All they would be doing is driving people into trump's camp. Trump was behind Biden a little right up until he got arrested. And then it went downhill for them from there We have seen it said over and over and over again: If all you can do is make crap up then what you are saying is there's nothing legitimate about him to complain about so he's actually pretty good1 point

I love this little game that they play, "we are absolutely entirely for free speech, provided its speech that we approve of and don't think is bad. Have conservatives used the law AND the IRS to attack political opponents? No. 6. Have conservatives attacked Christians? No. BUT...the Libbies have...on all counts. I would think this would benefit the rich and hurt the middle class and poor. The rich make far more in money than they can consume, so they invest the rest. Before the GST existed Canada was doing just fine. Get rid of it. Our government wastes money on all sorts of nonsense.1 point

Provinces have a Charter veto, not a veto on the whole constitution. Some issues like national defence are federal issues that can't or don't make sense to made by each province. But I do think there should be as much provincial and local control over laws as is reasonable. Problem is the agreement that decides what feds and provinces were in charge of was made in 1867 and re-opening the constitutional is basically impossible in this country because of Quebec.1 point

But TBH, it's leftist immigration policy that allows illegal immigrants, who were convicted murderers in their own country, to be released into the US on their own recognizance while they're waiting for an immigration/asylum hearing. It's also leftist immigration policy that prevents ICE from being notified when convicted murderers, who are illegal immigrants, are released from jail, and back into the US, after they get out of jail for committing crimes in America. Don't pretend that's stupid. Is it possible that no one on the left that's involved in making these decisions is smart enough to realize that they will end up costing Americans' lives? What's your excuse eyeball, are Demis that stupid or that evil?1 point
-
That's nonsense. Sometimes the courts are right and the provinces can still use the clause. The purpose of the clause was to get the provinces to sign on to something that limited their power, including Quebec, who still didn't.1 point

Other than the very Charter you're snivelling about. Nor does the notwithstanding clause allow that.1 point

What you're doing right there is called 'an accusation in a mirror', if you were wondering. It's when you accuse someone else of doing what you're actually the one who's doing it. You guys run around saying things like "mostly peaceful protests", "there's no inflation", "walls are racist", "Joe Biden is mentally fit", and "Russian collusion" for years, then you pretend that you only tell the truth and the other side lacks credibility. You're a liar, herbie. It's all you do. Bingo.1 point

1. I am automatically sceptical of any pro-immigration arguments that involve staving off population decline. Population decline due to low fertility is going to be global problem in the near future, including in the countries where the majority of our immigrants come from (India, China, Phillippines, etc.), so what you're doing by mass importing people here is delaying the population decline temporarily while shifting the burden of the population decline from the economies of those countries to the expensive and largely outdated Canadian welfare state. 2. Canada has 350,000 births and 330,000 deaths annually, as well as an emigration rate of about 100,000 per year. This adds up to a total population loss of about 80,000 per year, so we do not need more than 300,000 people a year to maintain our population. 3. Even when we took in 250,000 permanent residents annually for decades, our population growth was one of the highest in the world. I highly doubt that reducing that number slightly is going to make our population fall. According to several economists at the National Bank of Canada, we need our population growth to be below 500,000 annually to get out of the 'population trap' situation we are currently in. FTR, when both permanent and temporary residents are included, our aggregate population growth has been over 500,000 annually every year since 2018 (minus 2020, for obvious reasons). We are already saturated and don't have the jobs, housing, infrastructure, etc. to accommodate all the people currently here. 4. If the cost of increasing our population is importing cheap labour to depress our wages, saturate our infrastructure and subsequently reduce our standard of living to third world levels, maybe increasing our population by that much isn't such a good idea.1 point
