I think if you are trying to immigrate to a new country, you should behave like a decent human being and be held to a higher standard. If you're found guilty of something like this, you're gone. There are plenty of people who want into Canada who won't sexually assault women, and we're better off having them here than creeps and perverts.3 points

One thing MAGA's do excel at, personal insults. Guess they find them a substitute for substance.2 points

Apparently, you have very low standards for immigrants. This is the problem with our immigration system; the low standards. We would be far, far, far better off with a lot fewer immigrants, but higher quality ones. We want people with high skills and also whose values line up with ours. We don't want to bring in potential rapists, thanks. I'd love to see our crime statistics broken down by who is and who isn't born in Canada. And what region the foreigners came from. When Sweden used to do this their stats showed a huge proportion of their criminals were born elsewhere. So the liberals stopped keeping such statistics. I'm sure ours would be similar. It stands to reason if you bring over millions of people from violent places with violent cultures of intolerance and misogyny you're going to see an uptick in violence. Especially sexual assault. Yeaaaah, that's BS. We can deport anyone we want to. It's just that our judges seem to be specifically selected for their empathy and sympathy for violent criminals and their lack of interest in the damage done to victims or the danger the criminals pose to society.2 points

Lol. "The judge belongs in jail!" Um, no. There is nothing wrong or unusual about that gag order. Demanding that a powerful, public figure (with a legion of cultish followers, no less) not make public statements that could intimidate or endanger witnesses, jurors or court staff couldn't be more reasonable--or necessary--to sustain the process of justice. And if you'll notice, in the contempt review the judge does not penalize Trump for responding back to an engaged party. If Michael Cohen says something related to Trump in public, Trump has been allowed to snipe back without consequence. It's a two-way street. Well, as much as it can be when dealing with such a public figure. Clamoring for judges to be imprisoned (for no legal reason, BTW) is really driving home the "law and order" theme.2 points

It's funny though, other media have gone through the same thing, specifically, radio. They thought it would be used for lectures, to transmit poetry, etc. As soon as advertising took off, a lot of people were angry with what was happening.2 points

Autocrats in China, Russia are now making common cause with MAGA Republicans to discredit liberalism and freedom around the world. MAGA Republicans are dupes of authoritarians of many stripes in a plot to destroy democracy. Trump's MAGA CULT is now a tool to destroy the FREEDOM Republicans have long defended.1 point

https://nationalpost.com/opinion/jamie-sarkonak-canadas-criminal-sentencing-discounts-for-foreigners-are-unfair Canada's criminal sentencing discounts for non-citizens are unfair Non-citizens who commit crimes in Canada shouldnβt get discounted sentences simply so they can avoid deportation. But in the Canadian justice system, thatβs exactly what happens. We are beholden to judges who believe the rules apply differently to everyone. It played out recently in Calgary. Twenty-five-year-old Rajbir Singh, currently here on a visitorβs permit after initially coming to Canada in 2018 to study, was out one night at the Back Alley night club when he groped an 18-year-old womanβs genitals under her skirt as she stood at the bar to buy a drink. When she turned around in shock, he did it again and walked away, according to the court ruling. Singh was found guilty of sexual assault at trial. But he wasnβt convicted. Instead, in January, he was given a discharge by Justice A. J. Brown. The judge explained that a conviction would automatically result in deportation without a right to appeal, while a discharge wouldnβt generate a permanent criminal record and would preserve Singhβs right to appeal his deportation. The judges have apparently given up all pretense of being on the side of the lawful public. They work exclusively for the benefit of the criminals at this point. This has got to change.1 point

When the SC handed down the Singh decision years ago it said that we had to give a hearing to people, and an appeal process. It didn't say it had to last five years. It didn't say there had to be multiple appeals and appeals of the appeals. We need a new system to give people a hearing within a week or so of arrival, then one (1) appeal hearing, and then out the door. That's assuming we didn't just reject them out of hand, which we should do for anyone who comes here from a safe third country. There were 86k asylum applications in the UK last year, and that's with people making their way across the channel in small boats. Why do we have almost twice as many? Because we're considered big suckers and people go through other safe countries to get here to apply. Anyone who comes here through the US, or any European country should be rejected out of hand.1 point

1. Dogs breakfast of statements. If you lump them all together that's probably not going to clarify anything. 2. Like the anti-Israel protests ? I'm beyond skeptical - I know exactly what they are saying and why. But just because I know there are probably some bug parts in my peanut butter doesn't mean I dive onto an anthill with a knife and fork, get it ?1 point

Why would you comment on something you have never read? That's willful ignorance. You want to be ignorant so you don't have to deal with it.1 point

Hmmm.. so by your logic, every criminal (every single one regardless of geography) who commits an armed robbery is set free with no questions asked. Well.. this just shows that you never leave your house. If I cherry picked the internet for examples... I could do what you did. However, arrest records and hard data debunk you. "Affect" and control are not the same.. I used to think that you are just playing stupid but alas.. you are the typical internet forum poster whose bias and lack of intellect preclude you from saying anything of value.1 point

Genocide: noun the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group. Nope, that's you. Israel might suck on the tit of the west but it's not a Western country. The fact that you don't believe in the western idea of universal human rights shows you don't actually care about western values at all. You're no different from those you hate at all. No just you, specifically.1 point

I was going to make that point as well. Not one of these a$$holes wants to live the standards they set for "everyone" else as they think they are above it - as if they're royalty. My God, do they really want to live through a full scale revolt?1 point

1. Well it says you don't approve of it. 2. This has been looked at and most qualified people and even unqualified think there is a concern, if not crisis. You don't need anything beyond 'could be' with a percentage to assess a risk. Everybody gets paid for a living in our system, so 'government funded' means nothing unless there's a world wide government conspiracy afoot, and there isn't. So - that's a summary of what we have already discussed. But you didn't provide any new evidence with your post, or any evidence at all. You and others have had lots of chance to debate this idea in the public square and have failed, so your only recourse is to brand it 'evil' I guess. 3. Conspiracy theory. No evidence 4. Superstition and conspiracy theory. If you have new evidence that hasn't been debated down then please post. Otherwise, this is an opinion, ramped up to rant level.1 point

The couple in question did not request a "Satan dildo cake" or anything at all other than the same exact commodity good they would sell to any straight person. And you WILDLY overestimate the quality of your "argument," which is just a retread of the nonsense defense the bigoted baker presented--an argument he lost twice. And the SCOTUS didn't give any ruling on the fundamental question. They punted. A "sandwich artist" is not an artist. A bakery churning out tiered cakes is not making art. It's not an act of self expression. You take the order, you make the food product. The end. And if either of those people are refusing service to protected classes, they are breaking the law.1 point

At this point, you are simply not telling the truth. It has already been pointed out to you they engaged in violence before counter-protestors showed up. Even then, being "peaceful" doesn't mean they were not breaking the law. YOU invite this lawlessness that leads to violence when you want lawlessness.1 point

No, we have checks and balances in place. Trump has to be elected and Congress would have to support him. When you bring such politically motivated specious charges... you are not going to win over people or Congress. And when you start a thread complaining about how the DOJ is not charging Biden, I will believe you have a care in the world about injustice. The system is designed just fine. Calling me names doesn't make your case any better here.1 point

Oh BS you mouthy little muppet. You interpret what MSNBC says as 'true' and that's that. Did "economists" say that there was "no inflation" when Biden was saying that there was no inflation? Were they lying too? How did prices end up being so high with almost no inflation? Can you tell me how Biden's economists explained that? You're such a lying weasel it's embarrassing to the whole English-speaking world.1 point

Is this your attempt at a haiku? WTF?π€£ The truth is that fanboys like you simply don't care about morality. Sure, he's all of the things I said (and more) but you don't mind as long as you can "stick it to the other guys!" Fine for sports fans, I guess. But critiques of the government of the most powerful nation on the planet should be more thoughtful than a game of hockey. And you are not now, nor have you ever been educated or thoughtful about any of the things about which you spout off. I'd suggest you STFU, eat some delicious Timbits, drink your precious beer and leave politics to the grown ups.1 point

Why do you think that he should not feel obligated to follow the judges lawful--and basic common sense--orders? The same guidelines that apply in every court and case? Why do you think Trump is above the law?1 point

Well, then, maybe the left should stop saying storms are getting worse and hurricanes are stronger. That's weather. Maybe the left should stop blaming global warming when NY gets hot in the summer, or tornados hit tornado ally in tornado season. Maybe the left could stop saying the sky is falling and denying scientific evidence that contradicts their view. Maybe they could be skeptical of all unproven claims and keep an opened mind. But they won't. They'll point to every tornado, every hurricane, every snow storm, every drought as proof of AGW while attacking anyone that says maybe that's wrong.1 point

Been to Moscow, ID a few times. I grew up in Boise. I detect that you have not been there or not for a long time and are relying on second hand media for this. This sounds a bit hyperbolic. The point being (interesting how you dodge this) is the reputational risk and damage is greater if you make it public than if you take legal action and therefore galvanize the opposition. I have seen the prior method work.1 point

The desperation in your tone is palpable. Sounds like he struck a nerve. Biden is one case (tho still a breech of the law). But Clinton? Took a history of the middle east course in college. What a muddled, bizarre story it is. Jews as a religion predate Islam. However culturally the arabs/berbers predate the modern Israelite by a few thousand years. This is not like one side is solely the aggressor and the other is simply sitting there taking the punishment. They have both attacked the other numerous times. The list of grievances is long for both sides. Having an established sovereign state of Palestine seems like the best solution if you want peace. However, neither side can agree to that.1 point

In many ways I think it's completely irrelevant what Trump does. He's an awful human being, and that won't change one way or the other based on a trip to Rikers for contempt of court. (As much as I'd love to see it.) Probably what's more important is what Trump's supporters make of the situation. They've spent months convincing themselves that he's the victim of some legal witch hunt, that he's being persecuted, when in fact his crimes are pretty plain to see. But here, in this case we have an almost scientific experiment. Isolated from politics and even from the gorpy facts of a criminal indictment, we have a judge issuing a plain as day instruction. And it's incredibly basic: don't make public statements about witnesses, jurors, court staff and their families. This is standard stuff for reasons that everyone understands. The judge has been clear about it. Trump was warned multiple times and continued to violate. He's been fined multiple times, and continues to violate. And the judge is begging him to stop, so that he doesn't have to put a past and potentially future president in jail. But the question for Trump supporters, who can see the clear and repeated violations of a simple court order taking place, whether they will finally hold Trump responsible for his own dumb actions, or whether they will try to blame the court for trying to enforce a basic point of law. It's a lot like dealing with a toddler. They will push boundaries until they trigger the ultimatum. As Trump seems likely to do. Will his supporters finally acknowledge that the toddler was at fault for willfully violating a plain, simple and fair directive? Or, like the toddler, will they blame the authority figure for imposing consequences. Should be illuminating either way--but I have my guesses. lol1 point

1. Why do you keep misconstruing my arguments in all of your replies and creating strawmen? Please stop this. I'm talking about the protests too. 3. Since virtually none of the convoy folks were chanting Nazi slogans or brandishing Nazi symbols etc then generally no. Were a few of them Nazis? Probably. I think I saw one or 2 people with Confederate flags, though they were in a pickup truck, not a big-rig, so probably outside agitators. Were there some far-right folks among the convoy? Yes i'm sure there was. That one guy sounded like a nut, and they stopped some guns at the border. 4. I'm objectively against pro-genocide pro-terrorism supporters and racial harassment/discrimination. Are you against those things? Or would you prefer to stay silent about them? You seem to have a strong opinion on my comments, but no opinion of protestors supporting and calling for more Oct 7 events and ethnic genocide. But go ahead, sit on the fence and claim "objectively". Would you have done that during the civil rights movement in the 60's too or during the WWII holocaust?1 point
