  1. Ottawa is the seat of our government. We elected them The WEF is not our government. We did not elect them.

  2. Sure - I get it. You need to accept that the people you discuss politics with don't share your morals 100%. In fact nobody does. We have to work it out, though, that is the gift and burden of democracy. If you think I'm vile and disgusting then I guess that's a starting point for you. Myself, I try to find a way to categorize moral questions so they can be worked out. Again - your problem isn't WEF per say, it's that the meetings are used to discuss ideas you find vile and disgusting. Probably a few decades ago you would have been ok with WEF...

  6. There's a different set of rules for leftists. If an uppity black runs for office as a GOPer it's considered 'in good taste' to hurl racist epithets at them. Anyone who sticks to their principles, thereby offending an alt-left lynch mob, gets libelled on social media and in the MSM.

  7. I've heard a lot of criticism of Prime Minister Trudeau's request to the AG of Canada to see if the Chief Prosecuter would consider a deferred prosecution for SNC Lavalin. Now we have Premier Danielle Smith's office trying to influence the prosecution of suspects involved in the illegal blockade at Coutts,Alberta. I happened to be in BC in 1998 when Glenn Clark was Premier of BC. The question every morning was, not if Premier Clark did something stupid that day, but what kind of new studid thing did he do. The fact that he would do something stupid every day was a given, like the sun rising in the east. But what was amazing was the lengths he would go to to find some new stupid thing every day. He was almost an artist, using stupidity as his medium. Now, we see he has an apprentice in the Glenn Clark School of the Stupid Arts, in the form of Danielle Smith. Where do they find these people.

  8. This is what Florida's STOP WOKE ACT says. https://mtsu.edu/first-amendment/article/2167/stop-w-o-k-e-act-florida Law prohibits teaching certain concepts related to race The prohibited teachings were that: Members of one race, color, national origin, or sex are morally superior to members of another race, color, national origin, or sex. A person by virtue of his or her race, color, national origin, or sex is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously. A person’s moral character or status as either privileged or oppressed is necessarily determined by his or her race, color, national origin, or sex. Members of one race, color, national origin, or sex cannot and should not attempt to treat others without respect to race, color, national origin, or sex. A person, by virtue of his or her race, color, national origin, or sex bears responsibility for, or should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment because of actions committed in the past by other members of the same race, color, national origin, or sex. A person, by virtue of his or her race, color, national origin, or sex should be discriminated against or received adverse treatment to achieve diversity, equity, or inclusion. A person, by virtue of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin, bears personal responsibility for and must feel guilt, anguish or other forms of psychological distress because of actions, in which the person played no part, committed in the past by other members of the same race, color, national origin, or sec. Such virtues as merit, excellence, hard work, fairness, neutrality, objectivity, and racial colorblindedness are racist or sexist, or were created by members of a particular race, color, national origin, or sex to oppress members of another race, color, national origin, or sex. This guy could have written that act:

  9. Rich Democrats should pay another 40 percent in income taxes. In addition, Democrat politicians who live in high crime districts with restrictive gun laws should have to pay a 30% sales tax for the cost of their armed bodyguards. Democrat politicians who voted for higher welfare spending should have to pay an additional 30% of their income to help cover the costs of their spending. The Pelosi Klan, the Biden Klan, The Obama Klan and the KKKlinton Klan should ALL be taxed an additional 50 percent, on top of what they are paying now.

  10. The existing carbon tax, as implemented, is not very effective. The carbon offset or cap-and-trade schemes are abominations. Bad policy is bad policy, but when the proposed alternative is another bad policy, you're not differentiating yourself. The reality is that fossil fuels are on their way out. It's not happening as quickly as some would like, but the (relative) success of TESLA at least is proof-of-concept. There are two main problems with this topic as a it pertains to policy: The first are outright climate change deniers and folks demanding the absolute primacy of the economy over anything else. These folks will not accept any sacrifice, no matter how reasonable. The second are the Greta Thunbergs, demanding impractical, out-of-touch action that will never be accepted. In between there are reasonable alternatives, like shuttering coalfire power in favor of natural gas as we transition to even cleaner energy sources over time. Unfortunately, the die-hards on either side of the debate refuse compromise on any level.

  11. Sure... so only people those who buy carbon fuel and the more they buy the more incentive they get.... plus the interest earned on their personal savings is taxable? Sounds like a typical Tory plan - the rich get advantages while the poor get dick shit. Along with the freedumb to not do or pay dick shit to a solution. Like I said: get rid of the carbon tax is not a climate plan.

  12. The Supreme Court has ruled on Senate reform requiring a constitutional amendment. Instead of another politician dragging the country through this business of electoral reform for the House of Commons again, my advice would be.... check with the Supreme Court first. Btw, I sincerely hope a constitutional amendment is required.

  13. Actually my main issues with it are. 1. It violates human rights under the guise of protecting them. All to force compliance. 2. Governments actively participate and even protect the nonsense. 3. I'm not a huge fan of pushing people into poverty over politics... Now if you want to support that, I guess that's your choice. But it's vile and disgusting

  16. 1. The WEF meetings themselves are. If you are in town and, say, the French Defense minister is there too - why wouldn't you reach out if you had something to discuss ? As far as I can tell that's what we're talking about. There is plenty of publicity about this meeting, so if they wanted to keep it secret maybe they shouldn't invite 100s of journalists ? 2. I reviewed the two links provided that I have seen: 1 - Rex Murphy spending many paragraphs telling me that people who care about the environment really only want to control you. So if there is actually an environmental problem... who do you go to ? Maybe the oil industry that pays Rex I guess. 2 - The criticism that there's too much influence. Yes, I agree with that but I have commented elsewhere.

  17. I had my first instance of real Range anxiety on the weekend. The wife and I were going to see a movie and we pulled an audible to see a more critically acclaimed movie only showing at an indie theatre in Toronto as opposed to Avatar 2. By the time we got to the theatre, I have like 57 kms of range and I was 45 kms from home. We tried to find a Stage 2 charger, which we did, but the charger directed you to download an App that didn't exist. This is a big problem with EVs. Each public charger requires its own app and its own account. The big players in Canada are ChargePoint and FLO, but there are plenty of others. We had two backup plans for Stage 3 chargers on the way home if the battery didn't hold up, but it appeared like the range was holding up with our hyper-miling techniques. That is until we were like 10 kms from home and the range calculator stopped giving a reading as the battery was so low. We ended up making it home with 2% left on the battery. Slightly harrowing but it was a good test of the EV's battery and it passed the test. One thing that's different about an EV battery is that it seems more consistent over the course of the batteries charge. The range it shows is largely what you can expect if you continue with the same driving style and conditions. With every ICE car I've ever owned it seemed that the second half of the tank always went quicker than the first, for whatever reason. The biggest weakness of the EV is your inability to do something unplanned. Had we known we were going to Toronto I could have charged the car ahead of time. Or we even could have charged on the way and budgeted that time into our evening. There aren't many Stage 3 chargers in the GTA, and I understand why. If you own a home charger you'll never use them. They're emergency measures or something you'll need on a road trip. This is something that'll have to be resolved in the future.

  19. 1. Yes, and this has been going on for a long time with Conservative, and Liberal governments of many nations. 2. Yes, I am still asking - on this thread you - what the issues are. If governments find some value in attending these meetings to find out what others are doing, then why not? 3. Yes, I realize that Poilievre is making political hay over this forum. The substantive criticism I have read about it comes from the left. I still think that governments can attend and take away what is useful. 4. Then why doesn't he explain specifically what he's talking about? I don't let my political leaders do my thinking for me.

But the public-health establishment’s praise for the bivalent shots shouldn’t come as a surprise. Federal agencies took the unprecedented step of ordering vaccine makers to produce them and recommending them without data supporting their safety or efficacy.” And: ” studies’ findings contradict November press releases from Pfizerand Moderna asserting that their bivalents produced a response to the BA.4 and BA.5 variants four to six times that of the original boosters. These claims are misleading. Neither vaccine maker conducted a randomized trial.”

I can play that game too: Circassian Genocide: 80-95% of the population expelled or exterminated in the ethnic cleansing of the region (~800,000 - 1,500,000 people) The Red Terror: up to 200,000 murdered to silence political dissidence and opposition The De-Cossackization: +300,000 murdered and deported The Kazakh Famine: 1.5- 3.0 million murdered and starved Kazakhs Holodomor: Over 3.5 million Ukrainians starved to death in Soviet-led campaigns - one of many reasons they don't want to be part of your shithole country. Stalin's Great Purge: 1.5-2 million political dissidents, elites, scholars etc murdered NKVD Massacres of WW2: 100,000+ political prisoners exterminated Yury, you must go back to the bosses and find better material. And if you think that this organization does not have any influence or our nation or for that matter global issues then am not sure what to say... how could it not Freeland is on the board do you not think ideas flow across the table... Soros himself is worth over 8 bil and he runs the organization, it cost a yearly fee for 62 k to 700 k just to be a member, this year 112 Billionaires attended the conference, worth more than 500 bil... thats a lot of influence there...that being said world leaders attendance is down, because of the optics... 27. Looks like we have the regular crowd here, those from the right have brought up a topic, and the regulars that have automatically made up their minds "this is Garbage" I think everyone can agree this is more than a lobby group, this is a massive organization with billions of dollars at it's disposal....And organization that has a major influence on some of the the most influential countries in the world, including our own. This liberal cabinet has perhaps more members than most other governments, and it's influences are apparent in our policies. And yes it is true it has it's share of Conservatives as well including Harper...i did not know that... So i guess write it all off as some conspiracy theory, it may not have been articulated well enough by my comrades, and yes i will butcher it as well. but who really cares most have already made up their mind. , So what ideas does our government have that have originated from the WEF, well build back better, just transition, carbon pricing, the great reset, any of those sound familiar, has any of you thought any of these were a good idea....maybe it was Justins translation of what he thought these gimmicks were suppose to accomplish...or maybe he got it right and the WEF got it all wrong... Anyways the WEF has also been attributed to other little gimmicks, like everyone's favorite FTX cryptocurrency and it's failure who's founder is also a board member of WEF...who even used these WEF events to peddle his wares...there are many more...The whole Climate change and the need to DO IT NOW crowd are there, al Gore i wonder where he went to... remember all his rhetoric, did he not start this whole climate change thing and remember all the shi* that stirred up, and all the lies behind it all . My point is this organization has influence over Canadians politics and policies...is it good or bad, there is many that think the WEF is on the down fall, judging by turn out this last event.. I think some of their ideas are out there, like some of the examples below, kind of reminds me of some cult... What ever happened to our nation and doing what is in our best interest... Some of the ideas that come out of the WEF, are a little on the wild side like no more personal property, the state will own everything, and you will be happy according to them...oh it gets better...say good bye to meat for the most part, we are going to be able to have a meat snack if we are good every blue moon...there is more... the ideas are out of an Orwell book... 8 predictions for the world in 2030 | World Economic Forum (weforum.org)

  35. Why is it you global warming types are always so arrogant and so certain everyone else is some kind of deluded fool who only watches FOX? Do you really think there are no honest, legitimate reasons for questioning this moronic plan? Like: 1: Rare earths are RARE! They make a mess of the environment to mine and process and there aren't that many of them to begin with. You have to drive an EV car for tens of thousands of kilometers to come out ahead of an internal combustion engine in CO2 emissions. But again, they're RARE. So if everyone switches to EVs there aren't going to be enough of them to make the batteries. Which, btw, we will have no way of recycling. 2: Batteries need recharging most often in cold places - like here. We are not going to be able to build the infrastructure to do that in ten years. How do people who live in apartments recharge their cars every night? They can't. Nor will landlords or condo owners have the money to put huge new amounts of wiring through the walls to provide that ability. 3: Even if we had the ability to build and maintain the infrastructure, which, among other things, requires a ton of electricians we don't have, we don't have the power to supply that many EV cars. And again, this is CANADA, the place where you need a minimum of ten years of hearings, studies, reports, meetings and legal challenges to put up anything bigger than a garden shed. You think we're going to build enough new power supply in ten years to supply all that?! Seriously!? It takes ten years just to get permission to build a single power plant! 4: The cost of doing all that, even presuming we can, will be absolutely MASSIVE, and will, among other things, result in much more expensive electricity, driving more manufacturing out of Canada and further impoverishing us. And it will make absolutely ZERO difference in the rate of global warming. None.

Are you really just worried about democrats? All the stuff about wealth and power it's just trimming to make people afraid of the party with fewer donors and less money?

Carbon taxes are existence taxes that impact the costs of all goods, not just home heating and transportation, but food and other necessities. The WEF’s rich ideologues are willing to sacrifice the health and prosperity of billions to achieve their deluded dream of climate purity.
